    I keep stumbling on natural hair/scalp care videos from ASMR videos. They're really interesting to watch, I had no idea how much work went into maintaining natural hair. Are scalp conditions as common as they seem? There are a lot of treatment videos, I didn't realize what a problem it was for some people...

    • @QLovesHair
      @QLovesHair  7 років тому +3

      They are. I've seen a huge increase over the last ten years. There are so many factors involved, but it can be quite severe. I've seen hair loss because of untreated scalp disorders. It's a nightmare for some people.

    I get bad dandruff. The only product I have found to workfor me is shea moisture shampoo and conditioner. I can only wash my hair once or twice a week. If my hair/scalp is extra dry I use leave in conditioner or I can't think of the brand name oil that I apply lightly to my scalp and rub in. I've tried every dandruff remedy and this is the best method for me.

    I've always had a struggle with dandruff, but when I bleached my hair to go blond, that's where an outburst of scales kicked in and I was having a nightmare! Do you know if it was caused by the bleaching?

    • @QLovesHair
      @QLovesHair  7 років тому +3

      Hina Asmr, it's definitely possible. Many people are allergic to bleach and bleach can actually burn the scalp, so if you left it on too long it's a huge possibility that it caused the reaction. it is always recommended that a patch test is done with any chemical to make sure no breakouts or allergies will occur.

    • @HinaASMR
      @HinaASMR 7 років тому

      QLovesHair I'm not sure if I'm allergic, but it certainly burned my scalp. Usually this doesn't happen, but I happened to mix the bleach myself with some white powder and the fluid from the bottle, that you had to mix together (unsure of english names) was about 12%, which I believe is considered to be strong? I hope it'll just heal, I certainly won't use 12% anymore or let it in for so long!

    • @wolfsf2012
      @wolfsf2012 7 років тому

      Hina Asmr I think (I could be wrong) 12% is 40 volume here which is the highest that you can go and most people, especially the hair company, tell/warn people to not put that on the scalp. That's the main reason for scalp/chemical burns and uneven patchy hair. I hope you're doing better I know even though I use 30 I always worry about my scalp.

    • @HinaASMR
      @HinaASMR 7 років тому

      wolfsf2012 How annoying, when I bought it from the store, I was recommended it, because I had really dark hair. He didn't say anything about that it that it could burn... But I guess it makes sense of you want to sell it.
      And yea, I'm better. I've not bleached my hair in a while and dyed it back to my natural colour, giving it a rest. :)

    • @wolfsf2012
      @wolfsf2012 6 років тому +1

      Hina Asmr 40 is ok to use if it an off scalp process but that guy should have never said it was ok to use on the scalp because very, very few people can put it on there. But I'm glad you're doing better now.

      Since the scalp regenerates, it's usually not a permanet fix. It really varies from client to client. I can say that I don't have any client that gets it monthly. My most frequent application is about every 6-8 weeks.Most applications are during seasonal changes. For example, from hot to cold temps. I have a few clients that get treated after allergy flare-ups too.

    isn't coal tar carcinogenic? It used to be the standard UK treatment for psorriasis (i have it) then it was suddenly withdrawn

    • @QLovesHair
      @QLovesHair  7 років тому +2

      Hi Josephine! Yes, coal tar is carcinogenic at high levels however, in the US, products can have only .5-5% of the coal tar in the product which has been repeatedly proven to be a safe level. Many companies stay under 2%. However, they do not recommend the product for children under 2 years old. Personally, I only treat adults. I know numerous individuals that have used the product for decades with no issues. One in particular, found tar shampoo almost 40 years ago and uses it weekly because her scalp would be unbearable without it. I hope this helps, and thank you for asking!

      Hey! The brand I like is by Dudley but if you’re in a jam you could just use Seabreeze. It will be more drying and you should definitely moisturize after that, but it works.

      Natoya beckford you can try your local beauty supply stores. My favorite is by Dudley. It is amazing. Nairobi also carries skin and scalp antiseptics.

    Can seabreeze be used instead?

    • @QLovesHair
      @QLovesHair  7 років тому +2

      Seabreeze can be used, but it can be drying. If you use it, make sure to replenish the moisture that is lost during the process.

    This seems like it would exasperate scalp problems. Antiseptic is harsh. Seems like this is a temporary fix but would cause the scalp to react. I can imagine clients regularly asking for this because their scalps are only worsening with each treatment.

    • @QLovesHair
      @QLovesHair  5 років тому +3

      Hey Mel! Thank you for your comment. This hasn't been my experience with clients. Also, scalp antiseptics are formulated for the scalp with botanical oils (peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree, etc) and aren't the same as medical grade antiseptics. If someone needs medical treatment, I insist they get it and don't treat. Is it a permanent fix? No, and I don't state that it is. But as someone who suffered from severe eczema for years, I understand the need for relief, especially when medical treatments have been unsuccessful.

      Hey J! I totally agree with you. It's not the best so I always follow up with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner that smells yummy. Also make sure you fully rinse out the tar shampoo before proceeding. Let me know if that helps!

      Hey! Thanks for the comment and I completely agree with you, which is why I’m not using rubbing alcohol. I’m using a scalp antiseptic and it works wonders! I’ve been using it for years on clients with no complaints. Hope that clears things up.
