I'm proud to be from Cherokee territory of Oklahoma, and proud to be a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. Wes has been one of my favorite actors for many years, and is pretty much my favorite of all time. He's a straight talker, without having to insult anybody excessively, making him a true professional. This interview turned into more of documentary and history lesson than I expected, which made it a real gem. Well done. Azia is an amazing interviewer, in that she asks key questions and lets the interviewee say what's on their mind. Thanks for doing it and thanks for posting it.
This nice guy is not only an actor.... He is also an ambassador! Not only for the first nation, but also as a great human!
Most Cherokees in the 40s and 50s in Cherokee reservation spoke Cherokee. I also did not speak English until I went to school, now the language (Cherokee) is dying with the elders..the most dense speakers are in Adair county Oklahoma..proud heritage..
Teach it to all the children under 5. Irish was almost eradicated but we fought back and you HAVE to learn it every grade. Don't see it as a punishment but enrichment to understand your hetitage and history. It IS your culture! Don't despair, write childrens books with many images of all your people in ordinary day life, with everything you use everyday to live. Sing your native songs going about your day, use it saying prayers of petition and thanksgiving then slowly but surely it will be spoken and used without thinking about it. Good luck.
Osiyo! Stiwell, OK Adair County
Thanks for your conversation with Wes Studi! He's a great actor, one of my favorites, but he's also a great person. Even today, it's brave of him to speak out as he did about his involvement with AIM & about the ongoing oppression & genocide of native peoples. Proud of my Cherokee brother!
Needless to say, more conversations with native actors are needed. No excuse now that there are more to choose from.
Thanks again!
Long overdue! Thank you for interviewing Mr. Studi.
Wes was in the 9th infantry division in Veitnam my grandfather' was in the 9th infantry division in ww2.
Excellent! Rode across from him on a plane... didn't want to bother him but I am ashamed to say I stared at him a lot. Such a fine actor and well-spoken man.
Utmost respect for this man. Love him and his work; outstanding human being🧡
wes studi , has always intrigued , becuase his work is his people , what i didn't know was his Vietnam experiences ,
Wow, I've been a fan of Wes Studi since first seeing Last of the Mohicans on the big screen. This is (obviously the longest and) most intense interview I've seen with him and learned so much. Thank you for making this available, and let's hear it for Wes Studi as Iago!
Thank you Wes Studi for sharing your history and work with us.
I have never fallen in love with a " bad " guy but here I will make an exception after seeing last of the Mohegans.? In real life he seems like such a sweetie...
Mohicans...
My God this man is a legend he's a brilliant actor you will hate this man if you watch his movie The Last of the Mohicans he is soo good as a villain...
Fairplay Azia that was a tough interview. Given history and the paucity of native american representation who wouldn't feel Wes' pain and anger but it must have been challenging and you handled it with the grace and attention it deserved. Have always loved Wes' work but not seen him interviewd much so this was rather a treat.
BEING A Native American myself , I APPRECIATE HIM! HE IS A VERY TALENTED AND CARING LAST BUT NOT LEAST HUMBLE MAN ! MY WISH IS THAT IT OPENS THE DOORS TO MORE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE (ACTORS AND ACTRESSES) TO GET RECOGNIZED!
who the hell disliked this! SOMEONE WANTS A SCRAP!
Jon Voight dipped in brown shoe polish in the movie "U-Turn" starring Sean Penn and J. Lo is a good example of what Wes Studi is talking about...
Beautiful interview one of the best i have seen so far
This is absolutely a fabulous interview.
Indeed
Great seminar, Much respect Mr.Studi. Thanks for advice you gave me at The Only Good Indian film screening in Wichita, Kansas. You and Director Kevin Willmott gave me very good advice for young Indie-Filmmaker. I'm still going strong as can guys!
Very good actor! He's an epitome of a perfect gentleman!
Thank you for your service, sharing your talents, your knowledge with us, Mr. Studi.
first time i remember seeing Wes Studi was in movie "Deep Rising"...
Great person and great actor.
Wes studi an amazing actor
Wes studi. Is a legend,,he is as recognizable as John Wayne,, or Clint Eastwood. Or many others.
As an actor he has proved himself ,,but as a person he is a class act,,,hard to follow those footsteps,,,,
He's so interesting and funny great sense of humor! and with so much wit and carisma! super interesting interview! I would have never imagined him like this after seeing the masterpiece Last of the Mohicans.
Love this man. And very talented actor. Well spoken, much respect to Wes Studi.
I really enjoyed this interview with Wes Studi! I really like his honesty and warmth and he's a great actor and artist too! He is articulate, emotional yes ,nothing wrong with that ! He's so engaging and thoughtful!
Candid and earnest. I will look out fir him on the next film he is featured.
Always enjoyed his performances. I would love to see him do a season of True Detective.
Studi has an odd Tommy-Lee-Jones quality here. Softer side of his manner + speech that I (and many others) don't generally see.
He's so kind🤗
God Bless You Wes ❤️
Last of Mo,,, is my #1 movie! What this man brought to the movie could NOT of been duplicated!!
Incredibly amazing man.
AWESOME TALENT .
Wes has resting stoic face. That makes his smile so much more bright when he does.
Great great actor .
i love his portrayal in the last of the mohicans👍.harvard graduate,✌️
great actor!
Magua I love him
There are thousands of questions that could/should be asked and discussed about Studi’s unique career and experience, and you ask ‘what is it like to be working with Al Pachino?’ Come on... I feel so disappointed...even a bit angry. What a wonderful opportunity missed!
Wado Wes!
👍❤
Studi still scares me when I think of Magua.
Lol she asked a combat veteran who led dozens and dozens of his own people to occupy an american government building away from the police if it was intimidating to stay in character and do a few more takes than normally done with Al Pacino and Robert Deniro. Dude doesn't give a fuck about introducing himself to coworkers who only pretend to do the things he's actually done. Its those guys who should have been nervous to speak to him. Its no wonder why his Magua performance is so profound and continues to resonate.
Very beautiful interview excellent have to stop it at this point now got things to do little story for you though not that matters a whole lot what else about 7 got out of the orphanage playing with my grandma's cowboys and Indians yeah at first there was a little war and I stopped and thought I didn't want the Indians today I didn't want anybody to die so then I start playing with them like dolls peace peace peace man let's work it out anyway good to see you guys getting there it's going to be all better universe loves you promise to restore you and it's happening cool
What's your thoughts on the 1970in Tahlequah Oklahoma 😎

Salute North American, keep that hatchet high as the clouds , we fight the grey hair's ways here too !
silence is the universal language
people do not listen with their eyes
the art of communication is a skill that is learned throughout living life... storytellers and bards, body language
radio waves have changed how people think
television has changed how people act and behave(be yourself)
computers have changed how people feel
western society's reliance on industry and technology has led to people's separation from reality and created dis-ease of the heart

As a nationalist, I can only agree with him.
