Wes Studi's performance as Magua in Last of the Mohicans is, in my opinion, one of the greatest antagonists in the history of cinema. You love him and hate him at the same time.
I was honored to work as an extra on Undisputed with Wes Studi. I got to be in several scenes with him and he spoke with everyone as if he knew us forever. He was so nice. I am proud of my Native Brother!
Mr. Wes Studi gives every character in his movies the pride, bravery and nobility of every and each american native. Thank you, Mr. Wes on behalf of all american natives all over the Americas: North, Central and South America.
@@EscanV , I agree - and Day-Lewis in "The Last Of The Mohicans" is actually outdone by two Native American actors: Wes Studi should have already won an Oscar back then for his performance as Magua. And the still very young Eric Schweig as Uncas looked way better than Day-Lewis 😉
The one important thing I noticed other than the language, he recognized all of those that helped make films what they are. That shows me what kind of man Wes studi is. He is well deserving of this honor.
He just came through Gallup, NM not too long ago with his wife. Omg! I’ve seen most of his movies if not all of them! Remember he showed in Mystery Men?! Haha Legendary Actor! All Natives love him! Especially our parents. And most Natives know him and are so happy to see him up there finally!! As a film lover and Native I am so happy for Native actors.
I was just in southern Arizona two weeks ago and had the opportunity to speak one indigenous 74 year old native. I cried a tear for the first time in years just listening. I asked him to tell his story without me asking a question. He spoke for 20 minutes. I kept my mouth shout for 20 minutes. I have seen "Last of the Mohicans" maybe 3 times. Mr. Studi's part was terrifying at the time in the 90s, God Bless Mr. studi and all the native American indians that still are here.
It was a long acceptance speech and I'm glad they gave him the time. He wasn't accepting only for himself, although at times it may have seemed so. He was accepting for all the unrecognized and unappreciated Native Americans who are woven into the fabric of this nation. And it is appropriate that "America" was an ongoing theme in the roles he played: Wes Studi does America proud!
He should be honored. at the actual Oscar telecast. I felt the same when they did this to Donald Sutherland. Wes Studi deserved better my favorites of his. Geronimo and. Last of the Mohicans
Completely agree. This was the most foolish decision the Academy made. They need to stop trying to shorten the show and stop worrying about younger demographics. It's the Oscars. Run past midnight and give these people their due on the big stage. It's shameful.
You know he's a great actor just to see the difference between him on stage and off. Off screen his body movements are loose and uninhibitedly graceful on screen he comes across as this force of nature. Don't know if he was nominated for Geronimo but he should have been. Actor musician combat vet linguist horsemen etc. Some people just shine brighter than the rest of us. Im glad he was acknowledged for the beautiful light that he has graced us with . Cheers Brother

What an incredible nice guy! Its about time that HE gets this aword! not only HE, but also his people! Deep bow of respect mister Studi and your people!
What's crazy about Wes Studi in the Last of the Mohicans. I honestly didn't think he was an actor, I thought he was a real person they picked out from the wilderness.
Kevin Cosner never realised what a great service he was doing when he put Wes Studi's name forward for the film "Dances with Wolves" because Studi was the 'real deal' when it came to needing a really authentic depiction of a Native American. It was Studi's biggest opportunity to really break into acting and he grabbed it with both hands. The viewer always knows that however Studi's character develops on the screen the portrayal given by Studi WILL be honest in detail, language and everything else. He IS an expert horseman, speaks numerous Native American languages and helps others, not necessarily only actors away from the camera. He seems at least to be a genuinely humble person apart from an amazing actor. He has starred in many extremely good films like, Last of the Mohicans, playing the evil Managua, Heat, one of the best roberry films made, Skin Walkers, a classic but underated film, Seraphim Falls, a type of 'revenge' western starring 2 actors quite unknown for this type of film, Pierce Brosnan & Liam Neeson and Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee, BOTH exceptional movies. So nice to see someone rewarded who actually makes an unselfish acceptance speech.
