Video games failed to capture one of the most electrifying athletes ever

- Dante Hall was so quick and agile that he was given the nickname "The Human Joystick" for his video game like moves. However, when it came down to certain video games like Madden and 2k did they enable Dante Hall to be as good as he was in the NFL?
Kofie Yeboah brings on football expert Nate Tice to breakdown some versions of Video Game Dante Hall

ANOTHER ONE! WHAT EPISODE SHOULD I DO NEXT?
Need a video for Zach Duke in MLB Power Pros, he was a decent starter for the Pirates in the 2000s who had an unimpressive career but he is literally broken in the Power Pros games with great breaking balls and an absurd amount of blue abilities and he's universally regarded within the small fanbase as the best pitcher in the games
judkin watkins & his spin.
The unstoppable Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson 😡🤣
Not sure if there's a whole video in it, but I think a video on the fictional athletes added into MVP Baseball 2005 (Jon Dowd, et al) could be interesting.
Erik Kiss in Triple Play 97
Hall had an incredible moment against the Broncos highlighting how agility ability. I used to play Madden 2003 for 20 years and Hall was in the game as a back up wide out. I always edited the rosters before I started a franchise and tried to keep Hall in the game as long as I could. Cool to see him in this video.
10:30 wow a RvB reference. i don't know how many people watching a sports channel in 2024 also watched mid 2000s halo machinima but I love it
Red vs blue was crazy popular, wtf are you talking about Lol. That's like saying "wow I didn't know people knew who pewdiepie was 😮"
@@brianbadonde9251 it was popular like 15-20 years ago sure, but that’s an entire generation ago and was still confined to a very specific group of online nerds. Youd be surprised how niche these kinds of things actually turn out to be in the wide scope of things
@@brianbadonde9251 I mean I'm in the target audience and I've never heard of it. Pewdiepie's recognizability is at least two orders of magnitude larger than Red vs Blue, which I only know about because I read the Wikipedia article five minutes ago, so I think that comparison is a bit inaccurate.
You can include me among those ranks
Mentioning something isn't referencing it...A reference would be something like Daunte Hall is stepping on 6 pedals to go 4 directions
I did not have a former nfl coach making Red vs Blue jokes on my bingo card today but god am I glad someone could cross it off of theirs
Nate was great in this, would love more experts analyzing realism
The way he picked apart the game was impressive. NFL 2k Series wasn't having the return team find blockers until Hall caught the punt, which was wrong. NFL Fever was getting more TDs but they were running an illegal 5 man wedge. Madden had Caboose running way up field forgetting his assignment. All stuff that a well coached team would not do.
In NFL street (the original), Dante Hall has a TD celebration totally unique to him. I believe him and Jeremy Shockey are the only ones who have that. Pretty sick imo. Now that's a great sports game
@@TheWatchernator been a while since I've played it, but Dante Hall throws up the X and Shockey does this chef's kiss thing. I don't remember them being particularly hard to achieve, if you run chiefs vs. giants you'll probably see it
Great to see D Hall get his flowers
Do a part 2 for Devin Hester
I can't remember which it was, but he was either the first to ever be given 100 or 99 speed in Madden.
@@cvandy2252 100 speed in Madden 08. Funny thing about it was if you started a Franchise Mode in that game, the first time you hit a progression point in the season, it automatically reverted his speed back to 99 since 100 wasn't really supposed to be a usable value in the game.
Devin Hester was absolutely unstoppable in Madden.
One of Jon Bois's favorite players, wouldn't be surprised if this episode was at least partially his idea.
Autogynephiliac ☝️😷
I was a season ticket holder at Arrowhead in 2002 and 2003. Dante Hall was absolutely unreal and was a threat every time he touched the ball.
Dante Hall was a menace on the virtual field just like IRL 🔥
Dante Hall was an beast
The camera is focused!!! 🙌🙌 that first “MVP” vid of yours I saw was good but this is so much easier to watch. I’m really glad you dropped the second cam and stuck with zooms for emphasis

Dante Hall was in his bag like the fries were at the bottom
I don't even play video games but I love this series. Keep blessing us with content Kofie 🙏
Kofie is half the reason why I watch Secret Base
Props to Nate for the Red vs. Blue reference!
Those Madden 05 jukes and spins smacked me in the face with nostalgia. NFL Street was awesome, too
1:55 Boerigter was WIDE OPEN!! (True story - Marc Boerigter is one of 13 players to catch a 99 yard TD pass)
My dad is a Chiefs fan, and as a kid, he would always do well with Dante Hall on kick and punt returns when I faced him in the mid 2000s Maddens.
Even playing the Chiefs with them as the CPU, I think that the old-school Maddens got Hall right. He wasn't much of a receiver and more of a kick/punt return specialist, but he was a menace to square off against - especially on punts.
I grew up in KC during the early 2000s and that magically time Dante was killing it as a returner. I always felt that although he could score as a returner in those coinciding madden’s, it still didn’t feel like a justified representation of his ability.
remember that time he juked 2 wolves and got the Toronto Argonauts the longest play in CFL history?
Kofie and Nate Tice: the collab I didn't know I needed!
NFL Fever was also using wedge block setups that the other games were not doing, at all. It's not a method that can be used anymore beyond a 2 man wedge, but the first two clips of Fever you could see a wall of 5 players just waiting directly in front of Hall to spring a wedge.
Love this series, you guys keep coming up with creative ideas. I think the defense needs some love, maybe try Bruce Smith? I remember him being completely unstoppable.
I wouldn't have expected the numbers to be that drastically different from game to game.
Although, NFL Fever being such a huge outlier in Dante's favor, *and* being arguably the most technically sound of the lot, certainly says something good about Dante Hall.
Another thing is, I love hearing from experts like Nate Tice; I like to consider myself a pretty big football fan but he really reminds me how much more there is to the game than meets the eye, stuff that goes over my head every time I watch.
"most technically sound" is an interesting descriptor for the one where the return team was doing an illegal wedge.
I think ever team this year has pretty much decided to just say “put the ball on the 30” because the average return is to the 27 or 28.
If they made to start in the 35, that might make a significant difference (especially since that is now TEN YARDS difference from the 25 we’ve had for the last many years).
MVP has become one of my favorite secret base series of videos. I hope you continue to do these for a long time!
Badgers legend Nate Tice, who scored in the 83-20 win over Indiana getting some shine!? I love it
I've got a hunch, so I'm liking the video before I start it. So glad I subscribed, you guys have the exact kind of content I really enjoy, flashbacks on old games and teams, and this new virtual series is a neat idea I hope it turns into something long-term. You can do Mike Vick and Madden how he was on the stopable people would go out of the pocket with him and if you rushed him he would throw it and if you went back he would run it, I remember tournaments that wouldn't let you play as the falcons I believe we're talking Madden 04 and Madden 05 and '06 possibly. I'd love to see that. Or Bo Jackson tecmo bowl.
What about bad players in real life great in video games i dont know about amercan sports but example fifa 12 had a lot of 70 overall play better than 90+ players they were even more expansive in the game transfer market in ultimate team
I remember Ty Lawson in NBA 2k13 was a low key monster. He wasn’t a bad player irl, but not as good as 2k had him
@@Bankai2169 there is a lot of them in sports look up el shaarawy fifa 12 he is just 73 rating but his price in the ultimate team was more expensive than 88 rating players
I used to put him at TE, PR, RB, Slot. He was the truth. His speed wasn’t right in Madden 04 n they had him stuck at RB. U should do one on NBA 2K11 Yao Ming. Him plus hopstep to the rim was unstoppable. In an online ranking match I had 78 points n it was 3:58 left in the 4th. I used to never even finish matches
That Caitlin and Angel NBA Jamz shirt is out cold.
dante hall was always a beast in my fantasy franchises
I'll cosign Kofie with Nate's knowledge of football. Yesterday, I read an article Nate did on another Chiefs player back when that player was in college.
The older Madden titles had features I missed that I don't know if modern titles could take advantage of. What I mean is the engine that runs Madden and college football has certain things that make players roll their eyes. Excellent video analysis. Can't wait for the next MVP.
Dante Hall was a cheat code in ESPN NFL 2k5. So was Marvin Harrison and Tim Brown. Could literally send them on the same fade route every play and gain 40-50 yards per throw.
We need more Nate’s on the Madden dev team!
As soon as I saw this, I was instantly reminded of how I would steal Dante Hall right away in the NFL Street career mode. In my opinion, he was the best player in the game. Lived up to his "Human Joystick" nickname.
I ❤ Nate and kofie. Goat vid
I traded for him in 2k5 to the Vikings to use as a receiver and both kick and punt returner. That was tons of fun
I really hope he puts the famous juke vs Denver in this video. I think I watched it a thousand times as a kid, I dreamed about copying it
Another Kofie masterpiece
If you, like me, for some reason watch this channel but not actual sports, here's the gist of the new kickoff rule:
Instead of everyone running at each other from a distance and generating a ton of force in their collisions, the NFL is trying to reduce the amount of concussions during kickoff return by having all the players but the kicker and receiver (and I think the backup receiver guy?) start within 5 yards of each other and form like a wall in the middle.
I LOVE the Caitlin Clark shirt!
Love the vid. I NEED THAT SHIRT 🔥🔥🔥🔥
NFL Fever was different. That franchise had so much potential. The 2004 game was actually really solid, sucks they didn’t make a 2005 game.
This video also has a crazy amount of attention to detail! It’s weird how 2k5 is considered the best overall football game of that era, but I definitely remember the kick & punt return AI being insanely bad.
The other games all seemed to nail the aspect of the return team being "told" to block once the ball was kicked. 2k, why are you telling them to wait until it's fielded? That doesn't make any sense
@@dfp_01 facts. That game was amazing but definitely had sloppy special teams. It’s like they focused heavily on offensive & defensive AI, and just did a last minute special teams adjustment before the final installation.
Dante Hall goated for sure
Dante hall walked so Devin Hester could run
The Homage shirt 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great show!
I don't remember what year this was, but one year I lost only 1 game of Madden. It was the Superbowl vs the Jaguars where Dante Hall fumbled (and lost) the ball for me on a punt return. That was the difference in the game.
The Jaguars have been my Madden arch enemy ever since.
kick return rating = how well special teams blocks for the returner
Noticed this in Madden 20 thru 24 .. if you have a high rating you get wide open lanes to run into and more opportunities to break returns from blocking.
Dope vid as always!
Bro seeing Hall with 75 speed is CRAZY lol
I averaged 35 yards a return with him on Madden 07 and had 5 kickoff return touchdowns
You should compare the special moves of each Marquee Player in Nintendo Bulls vs. Lakers and the NBA Playoffs!
The competition between nba live and nba 2k from the mid to late 2000s and how nba 2k eventually took over.
His juke he did agaist Denver in 2002? is still something that amazes me.
KR might just turn his catch and carry up only on punts and kickoffs. That would be a simple solution for rating where a dude obviously is Tyreek in the passing game but plays like him on special teams.
That shirt is killer!
10:30 lol dude says it looks like rvb man i miss those days
We need that “What does the Return rating actually do” video ASAP. Ive been wondering that for years. EA has way too many ratings for players and i always felt like that causes the game to glitch the way it does. Causes the AI/CPU to do too many unnecessary calculations
I really thought you would mention what happens when you flick the right stick up just before getting hit in 2k5 when you control Dante haha, It's like a cheat move and the reason I always thought he got the nickname. Love the videos Kofie
2k14 Gerald Green
Kofie is life Kofie is sustenance Kofie is all Kofie god
Kofi, the shirt is 🌋
babe wake up new Kofie dropped
That description is insane
We need more hockey!
Hall is definitely victim of the CPU just running face first into the defense almost every time in most games. Usually 1 or 2 players will miss their blocks, and the CPU just doesn't understand how to get out of the way for some reason.
2nd greatest returner of all-time!
NFL Street... love that game, so many "cheat code" players
Loving the WNBA JAM shirt, tho sad about Angel :(
As a GameDay fan, the lack of mentioning GameDay is disappointing.
Shout out to Fever though. I loved the NFL Fever games.
can you upload this sometime else im busy rn
SOFTDRINKTV gonna be in shambles after this
What the hell is dangling from you ear ???!!!!!
In theory this video should be great in practice though it made me extremely sleepy
This isn't a suggestion by any means, but I do find it kind of funny that Patrick Mahomes is better in real life than in Madden, especially in the playoffs. He's another one of those players that's often referred to as doing video game things, but he does so much weird out-of-the-box stuff that video games can't even accurately capture it. And he'll one day find himself in the same place as Dante Hall: the Chiefs' ring of honor.
I don't care what anybody says, to me: Dante>Devin.
Dante was a way better receiver than Devin
Can we please get Jon Bois back?
Do any of the physics or cpu tendencies change if a ball is kicked/punted on the ground?
I still have my Dante Hall jersey that my uncle got me 20 years ago 😂
One thing you have to realize is that he had so many runs that were 0 or negative yards and somehow turned them into amazing runs- something that you’re not able to replicate in these wonky video games.
why this guy have a damn fly fishing lure as an earring its distracting tf outta me
TICE~!!
I thought he was the human joystick because of Hall effect joysticks...🤔🤷
I'm a cane's fan...idk how you can put devin Hester in the hof, but now hall
Problem is, just because a guy is super agile and super fast, doesn’t mean he’s a great player. They can’t make is stats true because then his OVR would be too high
kof the host with the most
how about a video on 2K 2008 with how unstoppable Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady
kr rating is usually about how good they field kicks
Video game physics 🤣🤣🤣
please do one of these on bob burnquist
But what made Donovan McNabb finish his career Untitled?
9:04 TCU APPEARANCE! FROGBALL USA
4:08 I have the same issue in CFB 25. I don’t understand how they compute who is a good PR and KR. It seems like an arbitrary attribute to have
Man I’m glad I got to witness him embarrass players regularly
You should do an episode on Brock Lesnar I don’t think anyone has appeared as them selves in more video game series than him.
You mean St Louis Rams legend Dante Hall? Hmm, never knew he spent a brief time in KC 😂😂 (also shouts out Tony Horne)
I think he spent more time in Scotland than he did here in STL
@@dfp_01 😂
