The key to Gehrman’s potency as a character is his elaborate setup, vague story, and legendary status in the world. Gehrman is a complete beast when you fight him, yet if you’re even half the hunter Eileen and Djura said you were, you’ll triumph. Gehrman is a man who gave everything for nothing, and he’ll die on that hill before he lets you repeat his mistake. It’s very interesting to me to see an ally turning against you painted in a truly selfless light; Gehrman has nothing to lose, he can only be released or in further suffering perhaps spare another from this fate. Gehrman has released hundreds if not thousands of fine Hunters from the Dream. And yet, all this for what? Gehrman dies more or less unthanked, unloved, unknown despite his incredible tenacity. There is a menacing tone to the music - yet it’s overwhelmingly somber and sorrowful. Gehrman does not hate you as he so viciously fights you; he moves like a feral animal, swings with fury and mercilessly attacks with unrelenting ferocity. But there is no rage, no hatred, no hostility in this fight. It’s a man knowing that even if his duty hurts him, he must endure it.
Gehrman is disciplined. His furiously unrelenting aggression is not natural to him. It is result of study and experience gained fighting beasts and lessons learned from observing Hunters he has trained. Becoming more of a beast than beasts are by will alone.
@@vksasdgaming9472 This is exactly what I thought, he doesn’t attack as ferally as Gascgoine, it’s all very… calculated, for lack of a better word. He realizes finally the true intentions of The Hunter but it is too late to even speak about it, he can only keep on fighting, but now truly understanding the meaning of the fight and the mercy the Hunter wants to give him. At the end, there's just a student trying to free his teacher from the tragic fate the teacher foolishly caught himself on
Bloodborne is the greatest game of this century. Never has a game so perfectly fitted all elements of an experience together so brilliantly - the old hunters DLC only adds to its perfection
Gehrman is my favorite boss out of any video game mankind has ever created ever. Normally you’re motivated to defeat the final boss to save the world or something, but I grew especially attached to Gehrman over my first playthrough the more I heard about him, soon becoming my favorite character in this game. I was motivated to win so I could give him the freedom he yearns for and deserves. His fight was also so much fun as well. Even though he beat the shit out of me several times, I didn’t get super frustrated like I normally do. I felt more joy that I got to fight him again
My thoughts exactly. Gehrman’s not just my favorite boss in Bloodborne, or my favorite Fromsoft boss. He’s my favorite boss in any video game ever. His moveset, character design, music, arena, lore, and voice acting all come together for an epic and absolutely beautiful fight. The only real flaw with his boss fight is that he’s a little too easy to parry, but that’s the case with the other hunter bosses too, and I think parrying a boss to death is pretty boring. But aside from that, Gehrman is an extremely fun and engaging fight. Challenging, but not frustrating.
Yeah. Especially when he is actually trying to save you. Only killed by him can you escape Hunter's Dream and Moon Presence. Other endings are immediate bad ends. (Well, if we consider you will become beasts due to blood transfusion anyway, none of endings are good.)
I had no idea the lyrics said any of this. I just recently beat bloodborne and have gone the opposite direction for beating from soft games. I beat sekiro which was one of my favorite games of all time then my buddy recently lent me bloodborne and I fell in love with it. I started watching lore videos because I loved it so much and literally none of them mentioned the final boss music for gherman. Aestheticly this is easily my favorite from soft game. Lore wise too but that's super awesome that gherman has his own boss theme.
The hunters dream is hell for gherman, and the fact that all of the things he thought could be done, like having faith to laurence and helping the hunters, never could do anything to save him. On his outside, he is willing to help, and accepts his dream. In the inside: He is crying in agony, mourning, and desperation, he's trying to save people from what will become their hell.
Ooh fuck. I never noticed the way gehrman cries is Exactly Like orphan. Now I'm thinking the hunter's nightmare is literally gehrman's nightmare. Crazy

Given Gehrman's connection to the DLC's final boss I wonder if his prowess and arcane power can be attributed to it. It's possible that many hunters have rejected his offer, only to be defeated by him in the end.
Gerhman is my favourite boss fight in bloodborne not only because of the lore but because he is the the first hunter.... The man who started the hunters...... Also i believe that when we kill gerhman we have freed him from this nightmare
I came to this video looking for some appreciation for Gherman and specifically his music. I couldn’t agree more that it’s not to be taken lightly when one says this might be the best boss music from such an epic catalogue but I believe it is. Even after the games that have released in recent years.
I find the contrast between the Gehrman and Moon Prescence fights beautiful. Gehrman is a quick, yet elegant fighter attempting to spare you from his fate, with intense yet sombre music to accompany his assault. While the Moon Prescence is a little more than a terrified beast unable to comprehend that YOU'RE stronger than IT, it fights erratically and often dashes back in fear after many of its attacks, all this accompanied by dissonant and terrifying strings and chants, which I believe aren't its theme, but ours. It thought it could just come in and make us its slave, but we overpower it far too easily, all because of a few umbilical cords...
I blew through most of my healing fighting Gehrman so when the Moon Presence battle started, I was literally fighting on fumes. I just _barely_ managed to kill it. One hell of a hectic boss rush.
Yh the hunters nightmare (DLC) is a place designed to punish blooddrunk hunters and the reason it exists is cos of what gehrman and maria did to the people of the fishing hamlet. Also think it great that Maria also puts her hand up like Gehrman. I also think I saw somewhere that Gehrman means grandpa in Germanic or something, don't know about that.
She was one of his students before he was cast to the hunters dream, hense the similar moveset and death animation, gherman also made the doll in her image for.. reasons
I actually didn’t refuse Gehrman when I beat Bloodborne recently. I accidentally attacked him while trying out a new weapon I got. The fight instantly began.
I've been playing since launch but learn something new about the lore with every new video I watch! I just recently learned from a different video and now this one too that the Moon Presence was actually controlling and enslaving Gehrmen inorder to steal the blood echoes from Hunter's at the end of each of their hunts. It's a great Fromsoft nihilistic twist that the one "safe place" in the entire game is actually being controlled by a creature and it's slave that just want to steal your echoes....
I believe that gehrman created the hunters dream using his umbilical cord because he was alone that's why he has the doll he was alone and trying to find someone to stay and what better way to do so then asking a great one for help in the matter
One of the Roman Empire's lasting legacies was the Latin Language (the actual one). To think that the Japanese would be using it so effectively in many of their works especially in Bloodborne (The First Hunter), is nothing short of amazing.
His boss theme is just so good. It gave me chills when I went and fully listened to the whole thing. The burial blade is also a phenomenal weapon. Gherman is absolutely awesome.
Ive always been a huge fan of Laurence the first Vicar's ost. Ive always just loved this track the absolute most, the mixture of the instruments and latin lyrics really just adds its own lore but in music form. Overall Bloodborne is by far if not From softs best game ever made id even argue
While I can't agree on Bloodborne being the best game, it is a fantastic one. Just held back by the PS4's limitations. And Gehrman is a fantastic boss battle, but ehhh... Laurence didn't summon the Moon Presence. Gehrman did, to make the Doll come to life... another tragic part of his life as he hoped to revive Lady Maria that way whom he was obsessed with. One can only wonder what a proper remake of Bloodborne not bound to a mere console might bring though...
How much of his leg did he lose? People say he amputated his leg because of the old hunters superstition regarding blood. Which means he would lose up to his thigh. But he can bend his knee so what is it?
I chose the one where you get killed by German first because i thought it would gove some detailes bout the law and then on my second go through on another char i accidentaly chose that ending again
Its so funny how I went from "fuck this game I'm never playing it again" when I first got it to it now being one of my favorite games of all time with multiple play throughs now and I'll probably do it again some day. lol Its my favorite of all the soulsborne games with Elden Ring being a close second but there is just something unique about Bloodborne that makes it stand out above the rest and I can't even properly define what that is. I would love a Bloodborne 2 someday or even just some new DLC when we eventually get a PS5 remaster.
It's the eldritch monstroties. No other game on this planet has done what Bloodborne has done. Not eternal darkness, not any of those stupid cthulhu games.
Any character in Fromsoftware history that looks kinda lame and weak will usually have one of the best phase 2 or boss fights Maliketh and Gehrman are testaments to that
I don’t get how the same people who made elden ring made bloodborne, dont get me wrong, elden ring is amazing but bloodborne is on a whole different level
Best final boss ever? Look he's cool as hell I even cosplay him in game (top hat, old hunter coat n gloves, his pants, scythe, blunderbuss) definitely one of the best not just from softs best, but not the best ever. Go play DMC V play as Vergil and go fight actual Dante on Dante must die(not just Vergil in a red coat like in 3) go see what you've been doing to demons for 20years when you bring 5 weapons 6 guns and won't stop grabbing your crotch mid fight. It's fucking humbling. Not to mention embarrassing, did I just judgment cut him and he just countered me with a haduken then do a Michael Jackson pose? I mean I guess this is a Capcom game but really a fucking red haduken for half my health and then pose? Wtf is wrong with my lil brother?! He fucking works you over and you just have to acknowledge that while this sucks he has SO MANY hacks with royal guard and trickster, you gotta give it up. This is how you been making ppl feel for years, this is fair. You deserve this... But it really does make you recognize how much of an advantage you get as the player characters having to fight another playable character as a boss. Not just a boss that mimics player mechanics but literally has access to everything you do.
To be honest, bloodbourne is my 2 least favorite soulsborne game(sekiro isn't completely soulsbourne so not part of the list). It felt short, I felt that the magic and firearm part was underused, and a lot of the areas, especially in the middle of teh game, just weren't fun. The bloodborne supremacists also make me hate the game more than I should, kinda like fo:NV. But God damn if it isn't a masterpiece and Gehrman isn't a fantastic final boss.
Dont worry about reviewing sekiro, it was awful. same weapon/armor the entire game, boring boss fights consisting of running in circles and yawn... im already bored bringing it up. terrible game. Ds/bloodborne were the best.

That moment when you realize Gehrman isn't crippled, he's just resting up.
I thought every death was Canon so why aren't u free when gerhman kills u in the boss fight is it just a gameplay thing or is there a lore reason
Same it's my favourite souls game so far even tho Elden ring was my first I just find Bloodborne to be the better game
You misunderstanding something, the Hunters don't forget the dream, its about forgetting what happened and moving on, leaving your past behind
Any character in Fromsoftware history that looks kinda lame and weak will usually have one of the best phase 2 or boss fights
Maliketh and Gehrman are testaments to that
Am I the only one who didn't know you could aim in Bloodborne.
With the effort you’re putting into this you need better microphone quality
Edit: “Bloodborne, the greatest game EVER.”
There I fixed it for you friend ❤ lol
I think the Witcher 3 is the greatest game ever and the greatest ps4 game but I’d put Bloodborne and red dead redemption 2 right after
No Dark Souls 2? :(
The title is SO related to Star Wars Revenge of The Sith
I don’t get how the same people who made elden ring made bloodborne, dont get me wrong, elden ring is amazing but bloodborne is on a whole different level
Lewis Scott Moore Betty Young William
He deserves it bro I hate him in the last fight
What a beautiful game, its a shame that to understand the game one has to watch 80 million videos, but again, what a beautiful game
every soulsborne song is gibberish, there's no lyrics lmfao, dude got conned.
Seriously, whats taking you so long Laurence?
You exaggerated a bit about Sekiro, but yes, SoulsBorne are the best in all of gaming! (Especially Bloodborne).
lmao it was the game of the year, i can't understand your criticism
one of the worst takes ive ever seen
You probably thought it was awful because you tried playing it like your typical soulsborne game. Which you can’t
I killed him to fast to enyoj the bossfight. He never has a chance to even activate his 2nd form.
