- After prolonged courtship interactions (gentle handshakes), the adult female of cellar spider (Pholcus phalangioides, family Pholcidae) got away from the male to deposit her egg sac on the cobweb. And finally, the pair started mating. I was relieved (and disappointed as an amateur ethologist, to be honest) to see that the desperate male didn't destroy or eat the fertilized eggs. Recorded in the morning of early-June 2014 in Japan. The room temperature was 23 degrees Celsius. To be continued.... This is part-2 of 3.

卵嚢ガードを中断して♂と交接するイエユウレイグモ♀(蜘蛛)
I went to my bathroom and witnessed them going at it.
I purposely put one in the web of another then they suddenly started mating. 😲
Did she go back for her clutch of eggs?
I got two cellar spiders in a bug catcher and less than two minutes later…they were doing that
eww
The mommy cellar spider will carry the sack around until it hatches and is a very dedicated parent . They will stay their with the babies until they start moving then will move on .
