I caught my self starting to skip some of the process to see the finished product but then realised why I really watch this man content. And it was for how he takes his time and energy to show us beauty in the whole process not not in the end result. Thx for the hard work.😁👍🏻
Hi Telly, welcome back. Looks incredible already. What a great idea to fill the handle with black epoxy. I have missed your detailed and artistic work. You are the best knife man on here.
At first i thought i knew a lot. Then i see you use your press as a finishing router, and use that technique with sandpaper as a rotary sanding drum. Wow.
First of all, I just want to say that this walkthrough is unequivocally one of the best I've seen - the attention to detail, precision, filming quality, etc. is unmatched. I have experience in 3D design and machining, and even the tools used (pens, calipers, etc.,) leave me in awe. Thank you for sharing this experience with the rest of us. With my limited free time and resources, I recently started experimenting with amateur metalworking. Watching master craftsmen, such as yourself, fills me with inspiration and excitement, and I hope when I finally settle down and actually find a permant residence, I'll be able to dedicate more of my time to these kinds of projects. I'll preface my question with the acknowledgement that it may sound dumb, but when the heat treatment failed, why did you send it off elsewhere? I'm assuming whatever issue you ran into couldn't be remedied at home, but since I'm so new to this, I don't exactly understand what/why.
OK I admit, I'm scratching my head, I have no idea what's coming with these scales. I look forward to the "wow" moment because I can't figure it out HAHA! Yep, you got me, You sneaky devil! nice cut off!
I'm no specialist but after so many videos with heat treating I've seen I kinda knew straight away that something will be off there, still though you're a top-shelf when it comes to knife making on YT :)
Same ! Saw him barely heating it to some unknown temperature (has to be done in the dark to see the correct color, not even testing it with a magnet?). Normally, the steel piece needs to stay a few minutes at the constant temp to allow for its molecules to flow in the good position (carbon into iron etc) and then quenched (not talking about tempering , that comes after)
It is hard to see the colors from the video, I could see better. I did use a magnet, I always use a magnet. That is the only way I can tell if it is ready. I could not get a good heat treat because my forge is not long enough to heat up both ends.
Have you thought about buying a respirator with changeable filters? I realize that you don't need a high quality filter because you already work outdoors most of the time but for me buying a respirator with changeable filters was one of the best buys I've done. It brings many quality of life improvements and they don't cost that much. The one I bought was only like 35€(40$) and it was exponentially better in comfort than the single use ones.
still stringing us along, I like that You do not have music other than what machines and the steel it self produces, and You let us wonder what the next step would be. was the cost high for outsourcing theheat treat? Love to see the next installment.
@@SLAVIKTELY Ohh that was steep! I hope You sell This work so that it covers expenses and a lot more. I hope that Your daughter really loves the dagger, so that it will be tresured as an heirloom. It is not often a father could give more than love and knowledge to their children, and in some rare cases money. An item created from the beginning and finished at that level from a father, must be kept for generations to come.

Just a tip: after you dip the chain into the oil I like to stir the oil up with a metal rod that way the heat is evenly distributed throughout the oil and you'll get a more accurate temperature reading.
I've always wondered about that but never seen that in most video's, does the oil your hardening with have to be at a high temperature? Seen some where they even used veggie oil or something similar
Yes, you need to heat up oil so the blade would not crack. When oil is not heated up, it does not absorb heat as good as when it is hot; this creates air pockets. I usually get it up to 130 deg F.
@@SLAVIKTELY yes sorry brother I've seen alot of critics with no actual knowlage i see you as a blade artist like I've watched alot of knife makers the way you produce them it's like a sculpture.. more than any other knife maker I've ever seen.. i don't agree with keyboard kowboys being critical of others hard work that's just not okay.. sometimes i don't always understand the intent being as it's typed.. also if anyone has watched you they know you do very selective pieces that's for fun/challange/personal skill development// not for any monitary gain or fame or any reasons of the like.. btw i love how this blade is turning out already.
Really enjoy your video's! But, please I know the blade wasn't sharp but next time clamp it down 1:14 especially with a bit larger drills they can bite and start spinning that blade around.
@@SLAVIKTELY Oh, I didn't see that, in that case ignore what I said. I've seen it go wrong and would hate to see it agian. And agian really enjoy your video's!
I have made 15 knives from CPM 154 CM, 3 from S-35VN. It's not a hassle to heat treat because I ship them out. Steel is waaaayy more expensive than high carbon and steel is much harder to drill and it eats up your bandsaw blades like nothing.
Great knife! How long do you find those diamond wheels last working on steel, dry? And are they just the cheapy H.F type or are they a $$$ set? Thanks! Glad to see you back and well.
I have to make anywhere from 25-30 knives per month to make what I make at my day job that pays for retirement, health care and the rest of the goodies.
@@SLAVIKTELY fucking hell... you earn good then!! Wait... 25-30 knives a month... sorry I don't mean to pry but even at 300 each is like 9000. 9000$ per month!?! Is that what you lot earn in the states?? Some people where I'm from earn that a year!!!!!! You're lucky!!
If you turn to making knives fulltime it can be hard to fulfil your artistic freedom because of having to ramp up your production to meet demand to pay the bills. It is quite the conundrum for us knifemakers.

It allready is. :D you get Damascus when you forgeweld Two, or more different Kind of Steel, with high and low Carbon. The pattern will Show up, after you etched it in some kinda Acid. It depends to whom I sell it to. If sold to family probably around eight hundred and everyone else around twelve hundred.
