I've been playing WHM for years, and while it is the easiest Healer, what many people don't understand is that it's simplicity makes players think more about optimizing it's damage and tools to the fullest, and that it something I will always love. It makes early players push themselves to think bigger! Lovely video! It's interesting to see the sorta "tech" White Mage can do! Here's also some neat things I learned for WHM. Liturgy of the Bell will trigger for Damage over Time debuffs, like Bleed, so if there's a raidwide that will inflict a DoT on everyone, and your Sage didn't use Panhaima (the ability that gives Shields upon multihits), it's worth using it. (You can also use Liturgy of the Bell as a cheeky free heal, as after a hit, you can immedately pop it to heal everyone for 800 healing potency. It does have a 180 second cooldown, however.) When doing a mechanic that involves a lot of moving, and you are not confident enough to get a Glare in, do not be afraid to use Dia in order to move. WHM is the only Healer that has a damaging DoT applying ability, it is okay to use it when panicking with moving as you are maintaining the rule of "Always Be Casting" If you are deploying Asylum, and don't have a marco to autoplace it, do not try to double weave, chances are, the action of placing it will not leave you with enough time to double weave. Know your Tanks when they use Invul. For Lv. 60+ content Warrior, or Gunbreaker, if you see their HP go to 1 during Holmgang, or Superboldie, it's fine, they often have self sustain in order to regenerate from that state, just use normal heals on them (unless they're bad, expect the worst in dungeons),. For Dark Knight, you WANT them to reach 1 HP when you see them use Walking Dead, and then it is okay to heal them when their Walking Dead symbol changes color. Some REALLY weird tech. If you apply an effect that Regens like Medica 2/3 or Regen BEFORE you use Temperance or Asylum's increased Healing Percentage, the regen effect will not be increased, only if you apply the regen effect after Temp or Asy, will the effect be increased. Funnily enough, Temperance's increased healing does not affect Asylum's regen. Minor thing, but I like applying Regen and Divine Benison on the MT at the 5 second mark before a pull. It's not much, but will save some HP from autos or if the boss does a Tankbuster early in the fight. Due to Thin Air making Raising less taxing for MP, chances are, unless there is a Red Mage in the group, you can communicate to have priority to raising people. Your other Healer will appreciate you. :> Make sure to greed responsibly with Swiftcast Glare, and use Rescue to grief your friends. ;3 And most importantly, don't be afraid to ask your group for High End content like Extremes, Savages, etc. to use Mitigation here and there. Communicating when to use Feint, Addle, or Tank Mitigations is important to not stress you and your co-healer out. But be patient with people, you WILL get grumbly when someone dies a lot, or when you struggle to recover, but know that people are trying and getting better. :D
This is the first healer guide video I've watched that actually talks about the stuff you should be thinking about in high-end content. And it starts from that perspective instead of raid healing being a 5 minute aside after 20 minutes of how to heal in dungeons. Amazing work!
Thank you for this video. Most people tend to not cover WHM in depth because "it's simple" or they'll just cover SCH and AST. I play the jobs i like and i like WHM. What helps me improve only helps my friends when I heal for them.
Every job could be effectively explained in under 3-5 minutes, maybe an extra 2-3 if you want to go in-depth on some of their optimal openers. These sorts of guides are generally for people who've barely touched an RPG or multiplayer game.
Definitely earned the Like. This had 5-6 things I didn't know, in spite of being at like level 94 on WHM. Avoiding gaze attacks with Holy, using Cure I in a pinch in high-level content, and the full power of Asylum were all things that hadn't occurred to me.
I love WHM, it's simple but it has so many little efficient tricks you can pull to scrape out DPS. Your video was great, I learned a lot from it, especially in regards to plan creating.
This was awesome, really through but accessible and sensible guide, easy to follow but I learned a lot! Obviously this was a lot of work, but I would be fascinated to see another job guide that are similar, perhaps different roles to avoid too much overlap. Keep it up!
My only real addition is getting over the panic of overhealing. My best recommendation is to use tools like fflogs and xivanaysis to your advantage to see where you are over healing, clipping, and overall not playing correctly. Did you sit on that blood lily for a while. Did you forget to reapply the dot for 40 secs. Having real data to show you where you are falling short will help you get better with time. Overall this video was excellent. Thank you Rinon.
WHM is the one healer I never seem to play much, but I appreciate how much nuance there can be in the use of their seemingly basic abilities. I appreciate you talking about the little tricks for optimization that I may have missed otherwise. I usually level WHM and leave it near the end of the expansion, but I am still searching for my healer main in DT and maybe it is finally time to give WHM a try. Usually my decision ends up being AST because pretty, or SCH because recitation though...
After playing Sage all through Endwalker I can safely say that Aetherial Shift alone was enough to convince me to play WHM again in DT. Why run when you can fly instead?
Havent healed anything outside of normal dungeons but today i got whm to 100 and immediately jumped into ex 1 and killed it first pull, thank u for your guidance!
Something I learned in TEA is that while they have same healing potency, aoe lily heal has higher range (20y) than medica 1 (16y) Yes, there were victims when I learned that.
This feels like a nebulous request, but some kind of guide for how to work well together with your cohealer would be appreciated. My goal with watching this was to try and understand my cohealers needs for when they might wanna use their kit. Since apparently as a scholar I wasn't giving them many opportunities to effectively heal
Communication about your healing plan for each major mechanic would solve this just fine. If you're trying to be optimal, as a SCH, your oGCD healing is the weakest of the healers and should be supplementary. If you don't care about optimization, just communicate when and where you're using your big healing tools and be consistent about using those tools at those exact moments every time.
Loving your content!! I also love that you use a controller too! Do you have all your buttons on just those two hot bars? If not would you mind sharing your layout? I'm always looking for ways to improve. Your videos are very helpful :) keep at it. Excited to see your other healer videos too. Do you plan to do any other jobs?
Question-why use lilies between pulls to prepare the afflatus misery (versus just throwing them out during the first pull)? Am i missing something about the way lilies proc in vs. out of combat? Sorry if I missed that in the video.
Thank you so much, Im planning to play Healer this expansion and try to challenge myself. Being a gamepad user is a pain for healer lol, Im sorry in advance for countless party I will wipe because of it
Hey, could you make these videos for other healers too? i want to try healing but starting up on DT is challenging, to say the least. Tho i know the work made in this one (great one btw
Hey Rinon. I recently made the switch from keyboard and mouse. But I am unsure as to how you effectively heal on controller? Any tips would be great (Mainly asking about targeting people on your team)
thank you for this nice guide.. i would like to see more specific guide for WHM during high level content.. like how you manage extreme.. specifically the heavy raid wide ones that can be intense for healers.. also would like to see your preference on mels.. is SPS viable, DHT or go full Crit as you were heavily priotarizing have a crit miser as an advantage.. is there a bench mark on where you need to be on these stats for high level content
i would think that we'd want to exhaust our presence of mind with glare spam prior to unleashing our 3 stacks of glare 4. is that a drop in dps output? :o asking genuinely, if we want to get off those 3 stacks first then i'm more than happy to adjust. love your whm videos rinon :D
you want to get those stacks off during burst - they are effected by the speed boost so it's no different to just using a standard glare - PoM in essence just gives you 1 bonus gcd if you hit your buttons, regardless of what that gcd is
One thing I keep noticing in guides by experienced players is that they are constantly spamming the buttons. I usually look at the crossbar and press the button once, maybe twice, when the GCD timer is at about 9 o‘clock. I wonder why that is. I assume you do it to not have to keep your gaze one the crossbars? But then how do you know the state of the cooldown? how do you know when to switch to the next action? Do you get it just from the visuals of the actual actions? I have noticed that I‘m a little too fixated on the crossbars, so I‘m wondering whether it might help to add another hotbar with a single button for a basic GCD skill / spell closer to the middle of the screen, just to keep track of the GCD (I don‘t like having the complete crossbars up in the middle).
Glare IV allowing Assize to be weaved inside Presence of Mind without clipping gcds is nice QoL. That said, I still don't main the job lol. Once a SCH, always a SCH
This might be a silly question but wouldnt it be a (possible) dps gain to only use misery during buffs? (Thus meaning overcapping 3 stacks)(Assuming the fight doesnt requite lily usage that would give u additional stacks) since under raid buffs a misery is ofc a gain but outside out it the chance for 3 glare crits is higher :0 maybe Im just overthinking haha
Theoretically speaking I suppose you *could* hold your Afflatus Misery cast until the beginning of raid buffs, pop it, then spend 3 GCDs using your lilies to charge another, then Misery again, but you'd not be able to then fit in all the Glare IVs and Dia refresh before the buffs wear off, so really it's just better to use 4 Glare III casts and 1 Misery during burst. Not to mention you'd be overcapping seconds off of your lilies to do so since you can't use ANY while you have that held Misery up or else you waste that feed and delay your next misery by 20s, which messes with your healing timings (and by extension burst timings).
Wouldn't it be better to use the full effect of PoM, THEN, Glare 4? You still got enough time to pop all three off at the end since the effect has it's own timer.
No, you’re not losing anything by pressing g4 under pom, and if you wait til it drops you can’t get all 3 and dot refresh under buffs. Pom is literally just a speed boost that gives you +1 Gcd, it doesn’t matter what GCDs you use
@@RinBanana Oh my mistake it's under consideration of what buffs you have. Because I was going to say that the effects of Pom last for 15 seconds where your Sacred Sight for (Glare 4) lasts for 30 seconds. So even if you did use PoM to it's full effect you'd still be able to get the glare 4's off and refresh your dot with time to spare.
13:27 "Whilst technically it's equal damage to not use them at all, it technically isn't when you factor in Critical Hits." Misery under raid buffs will always be a DPS gain, but there is no gain for using a misery outside of raid buffs. Saying "but you only have to crit the misery once and then its like 4 glares crit!" Is true but you are just as likely to have the 4 glares to crit individually. I've had so many people tell me I should just use misery anyways every 60s but it literally does not change anything. That's just not how probability works. I have always used either 3 or 6 lilies within a 2 minute period. If I only need to heal 2 time? I find a third. If I only need to heal 4 times? I bump it up to 6, but outside of movement concerns misery outside of raid buffs isn't a gain. Maybe it can be fun to hit funny big number button, but I'd rather just Glare instead of 3+ fully overheal raptures or solace on tank that does nothing but let me A/D spam for 2.4ish seconds.
Well, the other reason to use the misery over the glares is because it feeds into your mana economy, so it’s not really a good idea to skip the 1 minute miseries in any case. It’s never the better play to skip aside from kill time specific cases
@RinBanana Makes sense for mana reasons but Lucid on CD kinda carries when you already have assize and thin air. I don't think WHM is mana negative with 4 afflatus each 2m. At least I end up floating around 8-9k most of the fight especially when your rezzes are free, but it being free is a boon, but not a DPS gain. I feel it matters more during progression, especially early, when you're already planning on overhealing/using all 6 lilies every single time but on farm for the 300000000th kill I don't see it as even remotely necessary.
Hope players learn how to properly heal and still do damage from this vid. I'm tired of dying to WHMs casting only glares and not heal when the situation are needed (to the point i have to bloodbath and secondwind offcd, and ijust pray i getheal when i play caster or physranged)
do you think there's still value in playing WHM with the astro buffs that just went live? it's my comfort regen healer but im scared of griefing my static by not being super comfortable on it yet. also, PLEASE make one of these videos for astro - trying to learn it for dawntrail has been rough because there are literally no in-depth youtube videos (or even text guides) for level 100 and it's too different from endwalker to even gain much from the old guides.
I will be releasing an AST guide likely next week! AST is definitely stronger right now but if you aren't aiming to kill the entire savage tier week 1, i would go for a comfort pick over everything personally - WHM isn't bad as such, AST is just really good right now

We are getting new gear in a week, there’s not much point including melding and BiS in a general guide intended to last the entire expansion - there will be a seperate video in a week or two with healer bis and melds for the next 2 patches
I just realised, I love playing Whm and Sge the simpler healer's, but yet the more complex healer's are horrendous to play, before dawn I used to constantly have to apologise for causing astro wipes for every dungeon, and I'm just always confused on what's a heal, what's a buff, and what I shouldn't be using for scholar.

there should be a 10 minute sections of this video that just says "hardcast res if you have to in duty finder"
the amount of times i sat on the floor for like 4 minutes cause people dont wanna raise with no swift is way too high
Then don't die lol
what about materia???
We are getting new gear in a week, there’s not much point including melding and BiS in a general guide intended to last the entire expansion - there will be a seperate video in a week or two with healer bis and melds for the next 2 patches
Well what materia? Crit n DH or spell speed what's the correct order?@@RinBanana
I really wish there was an offensive option to use lilies - it just feels so wasteful to use a lily on healing when there is nothing to heal.
Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Dia Glare Glare Glare
Oh look, someone finally put into words proactive WHM gameplay, instead of just "heal when damage happens".
Let's go gambling
40 minutes!? That's so long
