That's awesome! I know the feeling, just did a high comp b20b swap in my teg and fired it up for the first time Friday, such a good feeling hearing the motor run for the first time.
That's not true, I friend of mine bouth a b18b engine from the junkyard and the odometer was 190k but we open the valve cover and it was clean so he bouth it and did a compression test and every cylinder was reading 160 and ran really good no smoke or clicking. Good luck.
my dad and I recently swapped a D16y8 out with a direct replacement. the old engine is a 97, the new one is a 2000 so i think we have to swap the intake and other than that we went from the A4RA to a B4RA, supposedly interchangeable automatics. when we got almost everything hooked up, it didn't even crank. after adding an extra ground strap to the starter, my dad got it to crank, but i think the different things on the intake are keeping it from firing right now. i have to get back there to check a few things and make sure its getting spark and fuel but i think we almost have a running and driving car again. its my first engine swap and his first one that's post-1980 or so. we're both pretty excited to get it done and see how it all works.
The d16y8 is a great budget engine, Ive got it in my Ej8 and is so reliable and fun to drive, full bolt ons, stage 2 cams, lightweight flywheel and a good tune can make it way more fun to drive
im so happy , im trying too cool down , im walking arround and trying later is best way to succes because we are a car guy we love the step !! i love u man
Nice work guys! Good to see this back up and running. Hopefully both Civics are up and running for the next track day. I just completed the minimal wiring for VTEC in my EG, so we are ready for this Saturday's track day here.
Thanks a lot Alex! Travis will be doing a trackday through the Eibach event next month, I’ll be passing on that for now because I’ll be doing suspension upgrades soon after and would rather wait at this point. But I’m real happy to hear you’re heading back out on track yourself man. Same place you went last time?
Just something to keep in mind. For a road rave application the D16Z6 's are preferred over the D16Y8's as the Y8 oils the motor from one side to the other and the Z6 oils the motor from center out, This leads the Y8's to have issues maintaining oil pressure at the far end of the block and makes them more prone to spinning bearings. At the least you should look in to getting an upgraded oil pump if you want it to last. I know Bad Guys Worldwide sells ported Y8 pumps and im sure there are other options out there too.
I put a z6 in an ek, I just pulled the z6 guts out and swapped them over to the y8 dizzy. It works for all d/b/h/f hondas. We put z6 guts in an h22a dizzy to put it into an eg also, so we didn't have to rewire anything
Classic pizza+friends+ some fun working on cars = perfect! Can’t wait to start my journey with one EG one day. Nice works guys I liked every single video.
Yep haha. Do it man. Get yourself a car and have fun with it. If it’s just a project and not a daily it’s more fun because there’s no stress of having to make sure it’s running all the time lol. Thanks for always watching!
Alright Rob glad you can get back out on the track. I think Travis can rock that z6 head and ECU for VTEC but that will require swapping out wiring harnesses. I have respect for the SOHC VTEC motors. They can be built to crank out 200bhp like 180 to 170 to the wheels it is just knowing what your doing. Your on your way!!!
If I still lived in Kissimmee I would have loved to drive around with you guys, I’m loving the channel, it’s great to watch you and Travis progressing with the civics!
BIG CONGRATS, BRO! This is awesome! One day swaps are legendary. hahah About the distributor- In the past I have swapped out the internal parts of distributors. I would swap out the internals of the dizzys and see if it fixes the code. That could help free up some funds for other essentials. Of course, buying new would alleviate all distributor issues, but it is always pricey.
Thanks Brian. Yeah, I've heard of swapping the internals on the distributors and watched Dusan do it in person. I hope to just get an inexpensive distributor from the junkyard and call it a day. We'll see.
I’m about to pick up a Y8 today to go in my 94cx. Dig this video man. It’s got me on edge to get started on building my new swap. I already have a 5spd Si trans from a 95 si in my car so I hope the Y8 makes a good mate for that trans. Again great video!
I actually just bought an Automatic 2000 Ex and it has a D16Y8 stock in it, I wanted a 5 speed, but the way this thing ran I decided I'm going to get it instead, it was only $1000 and it's super clean
Well not totally figured out yet Lee. I do believe the code is being thrown by the bad distributor but I wonder if the low rpm breakup is caused by something else
Well still got to get it running right but yes, fired up great! Nice to have a working car lol. Thanks Cody, I’ll be getting some more videos going soon
Hey I'm buying a 94 civic hatch swapped with a d16y8 but the vtec isn't wired up. Was it really hard hooking up vtec? I can't find forums on hooking up a vtec in a d16 to an EG
Don't forget to properly break in the clutch. Grab a junkyard y8 distrubitor and probably a brand new ignition rotor if it looks jacked up, check the spark plugs for craps and giggles.
We really liked doing the swap this way. I’ve done it twice now. Don’t need to buy a hoist or have it take up space in the garage for that once in a while use. It works well for this particular car and drivetrain anyway. I won’t say it’s best for all cars because I don’t know that
Hey bro take your y8 distributor and Repin it so you can run it in the obd1 harness. Or check with rywire I believe they sell a jumper harness for that.
Thanks Jay! Yeah, It was nice to move the car out of the garage for a minute lol. Still got to get it running right, but we're going the right way with it.
Haha you've been watching my videos for a minute if you sense a junkyard hunting video coming! Thanks a lot for watching man, I appreciate your support.
Congrats on the swap!!! I know the feeling of being without a running car. Can't wait to see you take it out on the track to do some vtec smashing! Thinking next should be suspension so you can fully take advantage of your car's new power and grip!
YessSSsSssSSs lol You're right though Ted, suspension stuff will be starting soon enough. Just gotta get this y8 running right and then I'll be getting to all the suspension stuff with the help of RHD Performance. Can't wait to show you!
Nice love the swap!!! Keep the vtec cover looks better then the plain HONDA, paint it first of course. If you plan on running vtec you will need a vtec dizzy rywire sells the obd1 and obd2 dizzy plugs. Keep building brother !!!!
Someone else mentioned that obd1 to 2 plug as well. I may look into that. Thanks. I like the vtec cover as well. I'm thinking that's the one I'd like to paint and run, yeah!
Love your video's bro. You can also take the guts out of your Z6 distributor and put it in the d15 with the d15 cap. And please upgrade your motor mounts.
I swapped a d16a in my civic and the motor ran fine in another car but now it starts but if I give it gas it bogs out like it wants to die there’s no check engine light on.either any info would be greatly appreciated thanks
Sorry to hear about that man. I know it’s frustrating believe me. But if you care to check out my latest video, we actually solved my issue. It ended up being a bad fuel pump!
I'm sure there's going to be lots of debate in the comments over this but yeah, I've heard of people who swap the y8 into an obd1 car leaving it obd1 and using the p28
Thanks Kevin. I still have the z6 and have thoughts about getting into that. Just gonna hang in my garage for a minute though while I get this y8 running right and focus on driving again
Nice bro !!! That's exciting !!! Iv got a 94 del sol it has the d16z6 with s40 trans but it has a few issues I don't think they are mechanical more electrical and that happens to be my weakness ...0.0 .. it idles but won't rev over 2k and runs rough ... I'm waiting on a new distributor and a few other sensors (map, tp, purge solenoid) hopefully I can get it running smoothly soon !!! Any advice on wireing would be awesome
Thanks man! Good luck with your car. Unfortunately I’m not familiar with electrical either. I’m not a mechanic at all really lol so I’m not the dude to ask. But sounds like you have a good start with your new distributor and sensors. That’s what I would think to try as well. Hope it works for you
I gotta question for all the honda gurus im currently swapping the d16y7 out of a 97 ek lx the sedan to a 96 ek dx coupe.. was wondering if this is a hard swap it had the d16z7 in it and from everything ive heard it should just bolt in.. reallt asking if there is any specific i have to do for this swap i have a donor car rhat runs and drive everything works im just getting rid of it because the body is destroyed almost rusted in half the 96 is a clean roller got everything except motor trans harness and ecu
Hey man I know this is an old video but I have a 93 eg 5 speed with the d15b7 engine (completely stock) that’s blown up. I was wanting to put in a d16 non v tec engine in it. Would I be able to just use the d16 long block and re use my trans , intake manifold , and distributer etc? Thanks for any help before hand if you see this. Peace ✌️
93 del sol si with d16z6 manual trans, all original. looking for info on obd 1 and obd2. Does the swapping in a d16y8 require conversion to obd2? What does that involve? new ecu? wiring? Thanks
Ok so you had a d15b7 that was non vtec and put a vtec motor in your car what parts were needed for this ecu harness motor axles shift linkage or am I overthinking this cause I have a d16a6 in my 91 crx si and I want to do a d16z6 swap but want to make sure I get all the right parts so I can do the swap in a day and not drag it out
I have a concern I'm doing a d16y8 on a 96 ek hatch CX model and the motor is coming from a 00 ex manual now I'm just curious do I used the y7 engine harness or the y8 also the ecu and my question I know the d16y8 has a power steering pressure switch how or were do I hook it up to or bypass because the ek hatch has no power steering on that year Civic ? Any input is appreciated thanks
I have never done that swap so I am not an expert ok. But I would think you could use the y7 harness, you would have to add the vtec wiring to it and also use the y8 ecu. That's essentially what I did to mine, was add the proper ecu and wire in the vtec. I'm not sure on your power steering question, sorry.
Yeah so I was planning on doing that. But the way my wiring harness is and since the y8 came out of an auto the connections weren’t going to match up. I can’t think of specifically what those connections are off the top of my head at the minute but it wasn’t going to work with that specific manifold. Maybe if I got a manual version.
Thanks man. Not really concerned with how much power it will make. I plan to open it up with standard intake and exhaust but no big power goals for this motor. I just wanted something to put back in the car to get back out on track with. This should be a little bump in power compared to the b8/b7 that I did have in the car but I want to get more comfortable driving on track before I chase any power goals.
haha thanks! Believe me I want to get back out there. Happy to hear you are looking forward to those videos. All this wrenchin is for the purpose alone, getting back out there affordably!
They are Toyo R888R 225/50/15. They may be a little taller than i'd like (would prefer the 225/45/15) but I do love them still. The grip is awesome. Once I have coilovers on the car I'll really be able to see how hard they grip.
We recently changed the wiring harness out from a ‘95 dx. We added the vtec wires straight to my p28 ecu. It can be tough to find a complete harness I know. Just keep looking, check your local forums, or find a shop that may have one. Really you should be able to keep your harness though if you have a ‘98 and you’re going from a y7 to a y8. You would just add the vtec wires as well and you’d want to find the ecu from a y8 too
Refine Movement, I have found someone with an ecu and complete engine harness, pretty decently priced also, sounds like that’s the way to go if I don’t want to be cutting and splicing wires (wiring is my nightmare)
Refine Movement I just finish my swap to d15b JDM non vtec. But still run roughly. Don’t know what wrong but will figure out soon. But thank your the answer After I watch your video it make me feel like want to make my car work again but just don’t have time to do it. But now it run again.
That's awesome! I know the feeling, just did a high comp b20b swap in my teg and fired it up for the first time Friday, such a good feeling hearing the motor run for the first time.
Yes! For sure was awesome and congrats on your recent success as well!
Automatic means👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 it usually means it hasn't been beaten down like the manual d16.. good look👍🏻
Yeah Arthell, that's what we thought as well when we heard about it. Hopefully that bodes well for its future on track!
Truth mine was mint
That's not true, I friend of mine bouth a b18b engine from the junkyard and the odometer was 190k but we open the valve cover and it was clean so he bouth it and did a compression test and every cylinder was reading 160 and ran really good no smoke or clicking. Good luck.
Did u have to change the wording harness like what exactly did u do to make it fit and work
That’s what it’s all about, pizza, cars, and the homies 👍🏽👍🏽
Hey congratulations.. you are back :D GOOD to see an EG coming back alive... makes my day.
my dad and I recently swapped a D16y8 out with a direct replacement. the old engine is a 97, the new one is a 2000 so i think we have to swap the intake and other than that we went from the A4RA to a B4RA, supposedly interchangeable automatics. when we got almost everything hooked up, it didn't even crank. after adding an extra ground strap to the starter, my dad got it to crank, but i think the different things on the intake are keeping it from firing right now. i have to get back there to check a few things and make sure its getting spark and fuel but i think we almost have a running and driving car again. its my first engine swap and his first one that's post-1980 or so. we're both pretty excited to get it done and see how it all works.

Ayee glad you got it running buddy! That's bad ass!!👍👍👍👊
Thanks a lot dude!
Sweet relief!! All the headaches have been replaced with smiles, glad to see the progress, time to beat on it now!!
Haha that's right Jon. Still got to fix that low rpm sputtering but the car is back on the right track again. Thanks dude.
Good to have you back, and that you are up and running. Looking forward to seeing more videos.
Just bought a 2000 civic coupe and it has the a D16Y8 already in. Can’t wait to work on it.
im so happy , im trying too cool down , im walking arround and trying later is best way to succes because we are a car guy we love the step !! i love u man

Yeah same place, looking to see that the engine and brake pad upgrades help lower those times :)

Dont let this distract you from the fact that hector is running 3 spoon engines
Someone’s gotta do the F&F references right? Haha
Lol i saw my chance
Hector forgot his blinker fluid
@@dookiejosh1 wtf is a spoon engine
@@georgemuller3998 ik I’m 1 year late but a spoon engine is a prebuilt engine from Spoon for Honda cars and sometimes trucks
Awesome cant wait to see you drive it on track excited
Thanks a lot Zachary! I'm really looking forward to getting it back out there
I’m about to pick up a Y8 today to go in my 94cx. Dig this video man. It’s got me on edge to get started on building my new swap.
I already have a 5spd Si trans from a 95 si in my car so I hope the Y8 makes a good mate for that trans.
Again great video!
Ayy! there it is!
Awesome!
I like how you added the Loctite clip this time on the fly wheel haha.
lol just for you man! I remembered that being something a lot of people commented on last time so I wanted to make sure everyone saw it this time.
Haha thanks man I feel special.
I actually just bought an Automatic 2000 Ex and it has a D16Y8 stock in it, I wanted a 5 speed, but the way this thing ran I decided I'm going to get it instead, it was only $1000 and it's super clean
Glad you figured it out man! as soon as i heard it running i thought 'Dizzy problem!'
Well not totally figured out yet Lee. I do believe the code is being thrown by the bad distributor but I wonder if the low rpm breakup is caused by something else
Hmmm, have you scanned the OBD for the exact code? It could also be timing, perhaps the dizzy needs to be turned?
Sweet man got her running good for you and the gang and hope to see more videos soon
Well still got to get it running right but yes, fired up great! Nice to have a working car lol. Thanks Cody, I’ll be getting some more videos going soon
Doing this swap to my 97 civic lx on the 15th I'm hoping everything is plug and play
Lets us know how it goes
I might be late on this but I recently got my 92 eg swap with a d16y8 automatic hoping to manual swap it some day when I get the time !
Hey I'm buying a 94 civic hatch swapped with a d16y8 but the vtec isn't wired up. Was it really hard hooking up vtec? I can't find forums on hooking up a vtec in a d16 to an EG
Nice to see the car back up. I cabt wait to see you ripping through the geara on the track
Thanks a lot Curtis. I'm happy you are looking forward to that too!
Just did a y8 swap with a z6 harness z6 intake and y8 dizzy with z6 guts in it and it runs good, didn’t need to adjust the timing it runs very good
Great to see an engine back in there, hoping mines all done in a day too...
Thanks James! That’s sweet you’re almost there yourself man. Saw some of your Ig pics with the d series on the stand as well
Don't forget to properly break in the clutch. Grab a junkyard y8 distrubitor and probably a brand new ignition rotor if it looks jacked up, check the spark plugs for craps and giggles.
Much love from Ghana bro. Honda to the world.
That is absolutely great that you got a good engine and you got it running congrats on that
Super happy for you bro! Glad you got a clean motor and y'all did that swap hella fast lol!
Cool! Motivated on my Accord. Recently ordered intake ,header, and exhaust. Hopefully do some tracking this year.
Awesome Fabian. Happy to hear you’ve got goals with your own car and getting out on track with it. Love it
Man that clutch you took off you mad
Grind gear all the scratch show
Great video hope you still got the build to this day. Due to them getting crazy in price an more wanted.
I’ve never seen a motor swap done without a hoist until this
We really liked doing the swap this way. I’ve done it twice now. Don’t need to buy a hoist or have it take up space in the garage for that once in a while use. It works well for this particular car and drivetrain anyway. I won’t say it’s best for all cars because I don’t know that
Great work guys glad to see you got it working!
Thank you Ryan! It was good teamwork for sure, we knocked it out pretty quick that day
Make sure you get the y8 ecu, it runs different timing than other Honda engines. 12* vs 16*
Ronnie Patrick no issues ive done it before, his p28 will work fine, besides you cannot put a p2p in an eg. Bet bet is to chip and dynotune the p28
so happy for you bro, glad you got it running. little details always come up, nothing major, keep it up bro!! saludos desde tijuana :)
Hes back!! Kudos brotha.
Wahoo! Thanks man!
Glad to see a quick recovery!
Thanks man! Yeah, it moved along pretty quick. Thanks for watching!
Hey bro take your y8 distributor and Repin it so you can run it in the obd1 harness. Or check with rywire I believe they sell a jumper harness for that.
Congrats on the progress! I bet it felt great driving in that seat again. 👌🏽
Thanks Jay! Yeah, It was nice to move the car out of the garage for a minute lol. Still got to get it running right, but we're going the right way with it.
Glad you have your car running again bro
Hey, just FYI you should be able to swap the guts of the Z6 distributor to the B7 housing.
Thanks Nick. I’ve been reading that’s an option. Or modify the z6 housing. We’ll see
Congrats dude, i've been waiting for ur EG video for long time. Looking forward ur junkyard hunting video.. 👍👍
Haha you've been watching my videos for a minute if you sense a junkyard hunting video coming! Thanks a lot for watching man, I appreciate your support.
Super huge congrats, exciting!!!
Sweet! Thanks Giancarlo, that's really nice man
Refine Movement of course, can't wait to see her rippin around the track! Can't wait to see your reaction compared to the D15b you had in there!
Best feeling ever when you do a swap and it turns on lol
For real! lol
Nice to see you recover great job
Thanks a lot man, very nice
Travis need to use the z6 head on his single cam!
You said the distributor didnt fit ...that meant you could of swaped the cam too to make it fit, right? Glad u got it running right tho...much luv.
Refine Movement Sweet! Thinking you'll probably get some good coilovers, camber kits, sway bars and your eg will be a force to be reckoned with!
You don't wanna see my del sols motor mounts
I swapped a d16a in my civic and the motor ran fine in another car but now it starts but if I give it gas it bogs out like it wants to die there’s no check engine light on.either any info would be greatly appreciated thanks
Alright guys I had the tps and map sensor switched.. problem solved. Lol
Sorry to hear about that man. I know it’s frustrating believe me. But if you care to check out my latest video, we actually solved my issue. It ended up being a bad fuel pump!
So happy for you. Love the video. Keep up the great work. 😀
Thanks a lot you guys! Sure appreciate you watching
Good shit guys I know u guys are pumped
Ecu is your problem get the y8 Manuel ecu
Josh Eg Si funny... ive ran a ej1 with p28 and d16y8
I'm sure there's going to be lots of debate in the comments over this but yeah, I've heard of people who swap the y8 into an obd1 car leaving it obd1 and using the p28
Yea I did a D16y8 swap with obd1 harness and chipped p06 ecu
You can swap out the internals of the Z6 distributor everything will bolt into the B7
I’ve heard of people doing that more recently. I’ve also heard people modify the hosing of the z6 to make it work. We’ll see
Good work guys. Get the Z6 rebuilt though.
Thanks Kevin. I still have the z6 and have thoughts about getting into that. Just gonna hang in my garage for a minute though while I get this y8 running right and focus on driving again
That's was up
Aayyee rob, glade you're back, cant wait to see your new track time on the Y8 swap.
Nice job bro l have eg6 turbo swap h2ba7
Gut the z6 distributor and put it in the b7 one the parts are the same
Congrats, bro! You're on tha come-up! 💪
Nice... 💪🏼 that’s motivates me to finish my car
Awesome Juan. Very happy to hear this can get you pumped to work on your own project.
if you ever go turbo can u record and show us who dont know how to set up turbo... the ecu and injectors and all that types of stuff thanks!
I've never seen someone build an off road civic
Nice bro !!! That's exciting !!! Iv got a 94 del sol it has the d16z6 with s40 trans but it has a few issues I don't think they are mechanical more electrical and that happens to be my weakness ...0.0 .. it idles but won't rev over 2k and runs rough ... did you you the original engine harness from the d15 or did you use a d15 harness?thanks in advance.bless.
Nice work man vvvvvvvvttttteeeecccc!
You still have that engine in car, I’m looking for one hard to find d16y8 long block vtec
Tubbed and rwd would be be so coool
93 del sol si with d16z6 manual trans, all original. looking for info on obd 1 and obd2. Does the swapping in a d16y8 require conversion to obd2? What does that involve? new ecu? wiring? Thanks
So u kept the same shift linkage and same axles right I just got 93 eg sedan and was wondering if a d16y8 could swap in no problem just like yours

Oh yessss it’s back!!! Why didn’t you keep the y8 intake manifold for more flow?
Yeah so I was planning on doing that. But the way my wiring harness is and since the y8 came out of an auto the connections weren’t going to match up. I can’t think of specifically what those connections are off the top of my head at the minute but it wasn’t going to work with that specific manifold. Maybe if I got a manual version.
Refine Movement o yeah the EACV from autos are different than the manual 2 wire. Well congrats on the new y8 man I’m excited to see more videos
I love eg hatches
Little question: what kinds ecu and wiring harness did u use?
Good job guys
Thank you Gary!
Yeah man check my build on instagram gmanb1974 I have a 2000 civic
i am happy for tou that tou have a new motor but how much power will you make
Thanks man. Not really concerned with how much power it will make. I plan to open it up with standard intake and exhaust but no big power goals for this motor.
I just wanted something to put back in the car to get back out on track with. This should be a little bump in power compared to the b8/b7 that I did have in the car but I want to get more comfortable driving on track before I chase any power goals.
nice i hoped that tounwpuld say that because i really apreciate all de relatively budget builds you make
do what you are doing man
How did you get the dizzy to work? With a obd1 car?
Freaking awesome! Good to see you back on the road in the hatch! Now hurry up and make some track day vids lol
haha thanks! Believe me I want to get back out there. Happy to hear you are looking forward to those videos. All this wrenchin is for the purpose alone, getting back out there affordably!
Great video
Thanks! Yes, the eg is a very cool car to mess with
What motor mount did you use for the driver side?
What kind of tires you have bro eg hatch is coming out good bro keep it up 😎🤟🏼
They are Toyo R888R 225/50/15. They may be a little taller than i'd like (would prefer the 225/45/15) but I do love them still. The grip is awesome. Once I have coilovers on the car I'll really be able to see how hard they grip.
Did you also change ecu and wiring harness? I’m swapping y7 to y8 in my 98 sedan and am having troubles finding a complete harness
Did you use the y7 harness or did you buy a D16Y8 harness with the motor?
This is an obd1 ex harness out of a ‘95 Civic
Hope you see this...
Was it plug and play or did you have to do modifications to the '95 EX harness?
You honestly dont have to go to the wrecking yard. You should be able to convert the y8 to obd1 or change the housing on the z6 to make it fit.
Dizzy
Yeah, I've heard of people swapping over the internals from a z6 to the b7 or y8 housing
Refine Movement yea you can do that. It shouldn't be hard to swap it. Just take ur time and you should be good.
what kind of ecu and engine harness you use ? if you dont mind my question. is it still d15b7 ecu and the harness right ?
I actually am running a stock p28 ecu which originally came with the d16z6. Harness is from my old d15b7. We just added the wires for the vtec
Refine Movement I just finish my swap to d15b JDM non vtec. But still run roughly. Don’t know what wrong but will figure out soon. But thank your the answer
After I watch your video it make me feel like want to make my car work again but just don’t have time to do it. But now it run again.
what kind of jack was that they used at the front end of the car. 1 ton, 1.5 ton?
I believe it’s a 1.5 ton, it’s my friend Travis’ not mine so I’m not exactly sure. It’s nice though, a low profile jack for lowered cars
So cool 💪👌 I got a D15B7 with a block D16 and intake manifold P32 (Im not sure) xD :)
HEY HONDAFANS DO YOU KNOW IF CAN I SWAP DY8 ON DY7?
Damn if we were closer I would take that z6 off your hands for my DA
hah, well I don't know that im going to be getting rid of it yet. We'll see.
you kind of remind me of Casper from the movie "KIDS"
