Opening a swimming pool for the summer season can be a bit of a process, but it's important to do it right to ensure that your pool is clean, safe, and ready for swimming. Here are some general steps to follow when opening your pool:
1. Remove the pool cover: If you have a winter cover, remove it and clean it thoroughly before storing it away. If you have a safety cover, remove it and clean it as well.
2. Clean the pool: Use a pool skimmer to remove any debris that has accumulated on the surface of the water. Then, use a pool brush to scrub the walls and floor of the pool. Finally, vacuum the pool to remove any remaining debris.
3. Check the water level: Make sure the water level is at the appropriate level for your pool. If it's too low, add water using a garden hose.
4. Check the pool equipment: Inspect your pool equipment, including the pump, filter, and heater, to make sure everything is in good working order. Replace any damaged or worn parts as needed.
5. Test the water: Use a pool water testing kit to check the chemical levels in your pool, including pH, alkalinity, and chlorine. Adjust the levels as needed to ensure that the water is safe and balanced.
6. Shock the pool: Add a pool shock treatment to the water to kill any bacteria or algae that may have accumulated over the winter.
7. Run the pool filter: Turn on the pool filter and let it run for at least 24 hours to circulate the water and remove any remaining debris.
These are just general steps to follow when opening a pool. The specific steps may vary depending on the type of pool you have and the equipment you use. It's always a good idea to consult the owner's manual for your pool and equipment, or to seek the advice of a professional pool service technician.

Love the video . I like how you didn't rush through it. And took your time, sir. I'm new at this pool thing and want to learn how to do this for this summer and not have to get a pool company. I have a salt water pool, but it doesn't have a heater. I would like to see a video on how to add salt and how to use the test equipment for the pool chemicals and the test straps.
Thanks for watching. As for adding salt and testing salt levels, we do have videos on this. Just look in shorts videos for testing and the salt system videos
Do you have a video of a pool opening with a cartridge filter? Your videos are awesome
Just a Jandy. All pools are pretty much the same. Pump, filter, some with salt systems. Thats it. Cartridge filter you just clean them more at opening. Have backup filters just for the few days at opening. Use the good ones when you get the pool cleared up. ua-cam.com/video/1gdFDVniUug/v-deo.html
I have a in ground pool and I’m trying to open it for the first time. When I go to prime the pump and fill it with water that water doesn’t fill. I had it filling for 10 minutes and nothing happened if need I can send pictures. What should I do?
I do have another video on priming your pool pump.
I like your video but I'm just wondering;
Why are you opening your pool if it's so cold out?
That's Canada for ya.
6:33 do you know if it’s possible to buy just the o rings for those unions? Sometimes mine get lost over the winter. Also, why do you prefer granular shock? Is it cheaper than liquid shock?
Great question on the shock question. ONE: the water is to dam cold and don't want the shock sitting on the liner. I do this for all the chemicals. ALSO. Add water first then the chems. TWO: We buy big pales of it and it doesnt take up space. The same amount we put in equals a guy on youtube dumping 6 jugs of 1iquid in the pool. PLUS. The liquid has a percentage to it. When its new and "fresh", it should be around 15%. When you see liquid on sale, its because the percentage is lower now. But they dont tell you that. People will buy jugs and jugs and store it thinking they got a deal. The time they get to the last one, the percentage will most likely be 0. For the oRings.........Just use these. amzn.to/3N8WDGk
@@VIPPoolsandSpas Good info. I’m fortunate that there’s a pool store nearby that sell liquid shock, but now that you mention it keeping it around for a few months isn’t so good. Which granular do you use? Thanks
@@krehbein I never really say what chems I use in my videos because they never apply to other countries. There will be different % from Canada to the US to the UK. The brand I use is REGAL. I do put links in my video description when I can of other good brands. TIP: Never shock or add any chems when the pool water is cold. I ALWAYS, even if the pool is 80F heat up a bucket of water to 104 then mix in my chems, then put it in the pool. ANy chems sitting on the bottom of any pool isnt good.
I have a basic vacuum. Not a robot. I’m having a hard time with it holding suction. It holds for a few minutes then the suction stops . I thought it might be the hose, bought a new one does same thing.
Manual vacuum or kreepy vac?
@@VIPPoolsandSpas manual
@@traceylynn1710 Vac on waste if you have a sand filter. If not a sand filter, you will have to get as much stuff out of the pool before vac/ing
Is it possible to post a picture of a plastic piece that I can't identify? We have.a Hayward salt water pool similar to this but it has an electric heater. Thanks.
