Thanks so much for doing this video. I’ve just fixed Hordak with a new connector. The only real issue I had was getting the old connector out. It just disintegrated so had to spend some time digging it out of the legs.
thanks for the tutorial Dave, just bought leg connectors for all my figures and I think I'm gonna start this week with the first one, cheers from Mexico!
Thank you for posting this. I will be fixing some of mine now. You can put that green skeletor in a clear container of hydrogen peroxide and sit him in direct sunlight for a few hours. Maybe more than one session for extreme yellowing.
Thank you so much for creating this tutorial. I just fixed the leg bands on two vintage MotU figures, Jitsu and Whiplash, which I had bought on ebay. I usedt leg bands from a German seller on ebay and it worked out fine. 🙂
This looks far more difficult than the other process. Much more fiddly, and probably more time consuming. I would be very worried about damaging the new rubber piece along the way, but I do want to give this a try. Gotta buy some forceps and those rubber pieces first. I have some excellent MOTU figures that probably need this kind of restoration. It looks like you need at least three hands to do this kind of thing, but I'm willing to to try this. Getting the rubber through the pelvis is the part I'll dread the most. While doing the o-ring method, I cut several o-rings in half via the twine pulling, so I hope this will go more smoothly. I appreciate you doing this one, Dave, as it does truly restore the figures 100% to their former glory.
I ordered these and have repaired a dozen of my beloved MOTU figures. I am a pro MOTU hamstring surgeon now. All thanks to this great video. I filmed a few and while setting up for He-Man my Man at Arms leg snapped clean off. The rubber was hard and brittle. Emergency hamstring surgery for Man At Arms and He- Man had to wait. I had zero problems and credit this video for the fun and successful repairs. Thank you!
Great video! I've bought my rubber legbands i varying sizes, so this weekend Sorceress, Roboto and King Hiss will be fixed and good to go. Thanks for this great tutorial.
What perfect timing. I had just watched the hook and eye video and was going to head to the hardware store We call them Kelly Forceps or hemostats in the U.S.A.
This is as hard as it looks but worth it. I screwed up after the first try (wasn't using the same tools) but with a little force and perseverance I got it! Probably couldn't have done it without this vid, so thanks!
It does look very fiddly as you say but definitely worth it, ive got plenty of MoTU figures with loose legs so will definitely be purchasing some of these! Thanks for the tutorial Dave!
Nicely done, thanks for this. My son started playing with my old MOTU figures and the old rubbers just break easily - I mean the figures are almost 40 years old now so it's no surprise. But this might be game changing! Thanks for the easy tutorial. I'll definitely pick some up myself now.
I'd done my he-man years ago with the o-rings, sadly yesterday I found him with his legs broken again. These bands look far more sophisticated & I've ordered a pack of 5 from ebay. Thanks for the video 👍🏻.
Thankyou for this tutorial I was using the hook and rubber O rings method but i going to try these ones as I picked a bulk lot of vintage MOTU the other week and most the runners have broken or become loose 😎👍🏻
I am glad to have found this video just in time. Using the screw technique for a nice condition half boot Skeletor was in the future. Thank you for this.
I tried the o ring and hook method you demonstrated and I liked that OK; this looks to me like a more preferable fix. I'll definitely have to get some of these!
I just got some on ebay and tried a few of the worst MOTU figures I still had stored. It is very hard. It is true that they possibly could get damaged by stretching the rubber enough to get the button end into the leg. Warming them in hot water does help get the old rubber out for sure. After I got the hang of it when done sometimes the figures were less stable than if you did it with the hooks and o-rings. I guess I can't remember the figures ever being very stable even new. Example: Thunder Punch He-Man is too heavy to stand because of the backpack.
I wonder how they did it in the original factory. Was the pelvis plastic newly molded so still soft? I worked in injected molded plastics years ago, and some of the assembly we did wouldn't have been possible if some of the things we assembled weren't freshly molded and still pliable. At the same time, the pelvis is a much harder plastic and also painted. Was the joining bits the last step so they were the only ones needed to be soft and flexible? I wish someone made a documentary about the process!
I have a modern King Greyskull, just from being on my shelf, decided to pick it up, and as picked it up his right leg fell off 😢...this are not like the 80’s versions, they don’t have O rings 😢 I don’t know how I’ll fix him ☹️ You make this look easy 😮 I’m always amazed at what you do. Great video 👍🏽✌🏽
What a great video . Just saved my 1st skeletor . I just picked up a huge haul of vintage toys part one is on my channel . Once ive gone through them all there maybe some spare parts helpful to you how can i send them. I based in the UK also
A legband replacement on a figure with furry pants is quite easy. Try a figure like Man-E-Faces next time. It's horrible 😉 Thanks for all the great videos, and keep 'em coming 👍
I got some of these leg connectors and have been busily replacing any broken figures or those with very loose legs. Dave, do you find even after installing the new rubber bands the figures legs are still a little loose? What I mean is the legs don’t feel as strong as they did when the figures were first opened.
Hello can you explain please when your putting the new band inside. Do you go through the 1st big hole or is there a smaller hole???? I'm having a argument with a supplier over 5 bands ive bought and there to big for the figure and the legs are so so floppy???? Thank you
As long as the rubber lasts I would guess. I've not had any issues with them at all. The repair makes the figures they same as they originally were. Cheers
Great Video. Those where the bands I emailed you, about a couple of months ago, to see if you used them before. I'm glad to see what you though about them. I might pick some up for figures I have.
Just got my bands today...I broke 4 from the head trying to shove it in with a sharp screw driver...so I switched to pliers and it worked...also the bands orderd on Ebay say LEA 2.0 on them made in Argentina..the bands are very rubbery and a bit fragile..I think if they were less rubbery and more plasticky they would not break as easy...one figure came out pefect...the other 3 I replaced are ok but not as tight as one would think...either way I'm still gonna use this product since it's the only one available for now...if someone here in the USA can mimick this product and make it better that would be great...anyway i used this video for reference and it helped very much..thank you...
So i just purchased some of these leg connectors and waiting for their arrival. Looking at the video again but what about placing the connectors in hot (not sure about boiling water) in order for them to soften up enough to help run trough the groin area and to also insert in the peg in the leg hole? Wonder if hot water would damage the connectors? And you put the legs in boiling water for 30 seconds, you show they become flimsy/soft, but that doesn't cause any damage? Thanks for this video, hopefully my son will be able to play with full legged vintage he-man figures soon!
Hi from Tokyo Japan. Love your videos. Do you have any tips for fixing the MOTU keg type found on Flying Fists He-Man. My He-Man snapped off one leg years ago.
Hello all. I recently bought the leg bands, but they were to big. The size of my leg band is 2.5cm (1 inch). Can you tell me the size of your leg band? Thank you
Are there any other suppliers for this part in the UK or is the seller on eBay the only one, £1.50 each connector is pricey and they have a monopoly at the moment?.
Great video. I recently discovered that my french He-Man has an entirely different kind of leg connector: it is brown and inserted in a T-shape directly into the leg (not into the hole as seen in the video). Does anyone know if there is a good way to fix those?
03:50 - They're called Locking Forceps, and are sometimes known as 'Haemostats', as they can be used to clamp arteries shut temporarily, during surgery.
I tried searching for them on eBay but cannot find them. Possible that they sold out. Is it possible for you to like the listing in the description or provide an item number :). My Skeletor is in desperate need of repair haha. Thank you.
Love your channel, I watch it everyday,I always find something interesting and very useful. However I haven't been able to use any of your techniques. But I'm eager to to do so. I've seen multiple videos and how to's to fix motu legs, but I was wondering if you had a way to fix the legs on the remco lines? Awa,Warrior Beasts,Lost world of the Warlord, and the various lines that Remco made using the same molds and parts. I think they'd make great videos.
Thanks. They are not figures I have ever owned or worked on. I'm sure they are fixable. Maybe take a look at my Golden girl leg repair video. That is a fix for a different broken leg issue. Cheers
No. You need a special "girl" piece of rubber. It's smaller but looks the same as the males. This method also doesn't work on ALL the figures. EBay definatly has both male and female rubbers explaining which figures they work on.
There are shorter connectors for the female figures, but it works the same way. It was a little more difficult with Evil-Lyn in my experience, but I got it done.
Thanks. Someone else said forceps which look quite similar. What ever they are called they are very useful for doing this. Rounded tipped are best. I can now change these really quickly, just take a bit of practice.
I bought a pack of these and made a first attempt on Hordak the other day. I found it nearly impossible to remove all of the old rubber from his legs. I ruined the first band from putting too much pressure on it. I cut a bit of the "head" on the next band and made it fit in the leg, but mind you this was very difficult. I was not impressed by the result at all. His legs still seems very loose and he will for sure need a stand. Maybe it was just the old and hard rubber or some problem with Hordak? I'm not too impressed with the (expensive) product so far.

Great tutorial! I repaired 2 different MOTU figures tonight thanks to your video. Thank you!
Glad I could help!

Thank you very much! I ordered a bunch of He-Band and fixed a lot of my MOTU!😀👍
The King of restorations......happy new year my 80s bro.....
Hemostat.. Is the name of the clamping device.. Great video!!
They're called forceps I believe.im glad I found these videos. I have some that need to be fixed.

They are called surgical clamps. Super useful things. Great video as usual.
Just seeing this. but why not put the new leg bands in hot water also? wont it make it easier to slide through?
I have a first release he man that needs a repair can’t wait to display him
I finally got it. Using a small flat head screwdriver and a hemostat and needle nose pliers. Thanks Dave! Cheers
Love your videos & the work you put into them. I'm in the US and you've got me using the phrase "fiddly" now. lol :)

I just received my leg bands today so going to have a try later today. Great video. Been very helpful. Thank you =)

Toy Polloi drinking game: have a shot of your favourite drink every time he says 'fiddly' in a video. :)
My liver fell out
C Fry There’ll be a video about cleaning it with lighter fluid and popping it back in again with ‘gripper things’. 😄
I love it, that's what makes him who he is.
I wonder if warming the waist might make installing the new rubber joint easier?
Excellent video & fixit as always 👍👍
Love all your Motu videos!
Thanks, more MOTU this Friday!
@@toypolloi cool, keep the good work, you are soo cool
Figured it out. Snap the piece towards the front of the figure off and use tougher he bands.

That's awesome! I'll have to try this on my Hordak, he's got a dodgy leg because the rubber has warped I think so can't stand up
Thanks! Just ordered mine 🙂
Thank you for making this video.

The legs would have been joined first, then the pelvis put together over the top of them.

No, you can easily remove those and replace with the new bands. I've done it many times. Cheers
@@toypolloi Thank You

Great video. May I ask how long-lasting this solution is? And are the legs as firm as when new, or inevitably only less wobbly than very wobbly?
As long as the rubber lasts I would guess. I've not had any issues with them at all. The repair makes the figures they same as they originally were. Cheers
@@toypolloi Thank you.
Done this Work today for a good Friend of mine.
Hi mate 😊
Have you any suggestions on how to save and or salvage a vintage Motu He-Man with glued legs?
Thanks so much!

If it's old glue it will most likely be quite brittle. So break them off, clean up the glue and re attach.

Hi, I have a question: are there smaller connectors for teela or sorceress legs on the market? Or once broken they can't be repaired?
You can get female versions as well now. Cheers
I just scored 10 bands for $22 on Ebay from a phenomenal seller named willbill...can't wait to replace my figures....
Thank you so much! ❤
You're welcome 😊

Hello, have you ever fixed She-ra's legs? There is no rubber connector, but a spring.
I haven't. I don't have any SheRa figures yet.
I Have Loose legs leech and Man-At-Arms, can those be repair with new connectors?
Yes, it will work on those.
Time to get the box of MOTU out
I use a corkscrew for remove the old rubber
Can you buy this replacement in the states??
Does blu tack work ha.

mister toy poloi do you know how to wash up a motu original panthor so the velvet doesn't come off

Well that's what I always say...
03:50 - They're called Locking Forceps, and are sometimes known as 'Haemostats', as they can be used to clamp arteries shut temporarily, during surgery.
You ever snap the little plastic flange off?
Early on, yes. But you soon learn how to push them in and avoid damaging them.
I tried searching for them on eBay but cannot find them. Possible that they sold out. Is it possible for you to like the listing in the description or provide an item number :). My Skeletor is in desperate need of repair haha. Thank you.
They must have sold out. I'm sure they will be re-listed soon.

@ToyPolloi you should make a video on fixing MOTU female figure
Do the legs go back to normal once they cool off?
Yes.
Does it Work for sorceress, teela ?
I've not tried. If I find a broken female figure I will give it a go.
No. You need a special "girl" piece of rubber. It's smaller but looks the same as the males. This method also doesn't work on ALL the figures. EBay definatly has both male and female rubbers explaining which figures they work on.
Is it the same fixing teela and evil-lyn’s legs?
Should be. I've not fixed one of those yet.
This is perfect for a majority of the figures, but will it work for Teela and Evil-Lyn?
There are shorter connectors for the female figures, but it works the same way. It was a little more difficult with Evil-Lyn in my experience, but I got it done.
@@stevebragg4256 hi man! Can you tell me where to find those?? Need to repair sorceress
There are sellers on eBay, and also some of the many Motu Facebook groups. That is where I get mine from. Cheers
Looks like I’m heading to ebay!!
I believe they're also called hemostat(s)
The surgical device is a hemostat, for stopping bleeding. This seems difficult to do. Maybe alcohol might help with the rubber.
Practice and patience. Don't force them, and take it slow. Picking the old rubber out is important. And you can do it on all figures. Check out my wonderbread he-man video to see them used again.
Dave what do you do if when removing the old rubber it breaks apart and pieces remain jammed within the leg hole?
Pick it out using a screw driver or similar. It will all come out in the end.
Toy Polloi yes, thank you. I actually put the legs in boiling water again and was able to get the remainder out using a crochet/hook type of tool I found in the kitchen junk drawer.
Can this be done with Figures that have had the o ring and hook method?
It should work fine. The old method would just leave a small hole in the leg. Under where the new rubber connector goes.
hmm it looks more simple than the o-ring but quite difficult to put on
On a good day, they take less than two minutes start to finish. On a bad day, you'll be digging old rubber out for a half an hour or more.
Thanx!!!it works!!!!
You're welcome!
Could this work on sorceress too?
Yes, but you need to use the female sized bands. Cheers
Will this work for the soceress figure?
You can get versions that are slightly shorter for the female figures I believe.
Where to get these vintage figures plz tell in cheap
