It's a bit inconsiderate of the wife to get into the accident so close to the briefing. He even had to miss important work meetings, to handle the aftermath of her thoughtless actions!

"Actor"? Mr Ted Barrett is not an Actor, he was the White House Press Secretary.
"But we have a lot to do today"
It's weird, but under certain occasions that can legitimately happen (well not exactly but close). When I was 8 there was an error with the anesthetic when I had surgery. I remember _that_ the pain was maybe 3 or 4 times worse (hard to give a good estimate, but at least twice as bad as) the worst pain I was capable of conceiving of at the time. Today though, like I can talk about it completely straightfaced (27 now). There is no emotional impact thinking back to it at all, and while I can remember what the pain was like and where it was, I can't actually imagine the pain itself. It is a pretty strange feeling but that does happen.

@@azrielhabal6428yeah Megan broke a leg!
It was obvious that it wasn’t real. The fact that you thought it was real says a lot about you. This is how people like Obama and Biden are able to become president, and, then, years later, the people who voted for them are still convinced that they made the right decision.
I often ask myself things like, “how could anyone have wanted this guy to be president?” Then, I watch CNN, and I think, “how could anyone not realize this is BS? Obviously, they are just telling a small part of the story, to try to make the freaks that they support look good.”
Then, I see something like this, and I think, “that’s pretty funny. It would be crazy if someone really acted like that, right after their wife was killed in a car accident. It’s hilarious, because of how ridiculous it is. It was great how he kept such a straight face while saying all that.”
Then, I come to the comment section, and I see people pretending like they thought it was real. Then, I realize they aren’t actually pretending. As hard as it is to believe, people are really that gullible. “How could anyone be so unbelievably simple-minded, to be that naive?” I wonder.
Then, I think about all the crazy nonsense being reported on all the news channels, like CNN, and I think about all those people who voted for Biden, because they thought he’d be better than Trump.
I remember all the people who actually thought Trump was secret best buddies with Vladimir Putin, and all the other craziness that’s been reported about him, that many people actually still believe, and, suddenly, it becomes clear to me: Half of the people in my country are absolute morons.
It’s no wonder why everything’s going to crap. It’s terrifying to think about, but this is why we are in such trouble. This is why voting shouldn’t be for everyone. This is why stupid people shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Typically it's easier to suppress your emotions when it was a slow death because you were prepared. Although that doesn't make it more easier for the person passing. I guess it depends. I dealt with sudden death and slower death. In my family.
Yeah when my dog died I didn't want to talk about it at work either. The thing about satire is that it's a hyperbolized account of a real issue, so while this story may be fictional, the message behind it is very real. Most men would rather suffer in silence by themselves than talk about it and let it out.
The most depressing part of this video is how the comments lead me to believe that people think so little of the world to think that this would actually happen. What is the purpose of our existence? Is it simply to have a good job, build a family, and enjoy life? Is that all there is? Certainly not. We’re made for so much more. Your purpose is to know God. After we die, the Bible says we’ll face God as our Judge. Have you ever rebelled (sinned) against God? Examine yourself by God’s Law, the Ten Commandments. Have you ever told a lie? Ever stolen (the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” In God’s courtroom, our sins are very serious crimes. They’re so evil that the just punishment is death and eternity in a terrible place called Hell.
The Bible says that God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. He is rich in mercy and provided a Savior: “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus Christ died on the cross, paying the death penalty for sinners. He then rose from the dead three days later, defeating death. Hundreds saw Him after His resurrection; it’s no fairy tale. Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies about the promised Savior, written in the Holy Scriptures hundreds of years before His birth.
Religious rites, sacred traditions, or attending church can’t save you. Salvation is a free gift of God that you can’t earn. To know God and have your sins forgiven, do what the Bible says: repent and believe. Trust in Jesus as you’d trust in a parachute-don’t just “believe” it can save you, put it on and cling to it with all of your being. Wholeheartedly commit yourself to following Christ, and turn your back on sin. Then show your gratitude by obeying His command to be baptized. Be sure to also join a Christian church and read the Bible daily. God will never let you down

This is the first onion video that actually made me feel sad. Imagine not being able to mourn your wife and be with your children when such a terrible thing happens because you have to go to work.
It is his way of processing grief. He clearly in Denial mode of what happened. He is just shrugging is way off to work to find some stable structure. This is Pretty sad actually beyond sad to be honest.
I was 30 yrs old when my best friend, my hero, my father passed away… all I wanted to do when I got the news was go to work. I knew being home with my wife and kids was enough to break me down… it wasn’t until 3 months later when it finally hit me like a ton of bricks. I was down and out for 2 months straight after… my wife had to pick me back up… we all grieve differently… sometimes I wish I could be the one to fall apart right at the moment of receiving bad news… it takes me awhile to process everything.
This is how some people choose to mourn. By burying themselves in a professional persona and focusing on work instead. It's not the most healthy or effective method of defeating these emotions but it is very realistic escapism.
I don't have experience in this type of grief but I have responded similarly to my own depression. Instead of actually confronting the matter it is a lot easier to bury yourself in routines and busy schedules of structured work. It can also be "healthier" than doing nothing or being alone in many cases. If you're alternative is wallowing in self pity because you don't know how to confront the issue or would otherwise choose not to, than people surrounded by people you know in familiar settings at least gives you access to support when you want it or are ready for it.

OMG! @TheOnion someone posted this as a short and my heart sank. Here I am 5am on a Sunday morning realizing the truth. You’ve done it again. 😤
This guy is the master of remaining calm. "My wife just died, my son's in a coma, and my daughter lost her leg. Any questions for the president?"

They're so respectful to him, that's how we know it's fake.
unironically heartbreaking
This is brilliant!
I got fooled so much I actually looked him up to see which president he served under and then realised it was fake I actually thought it was real because I thought this is how the White House used to run.
They’re all a bunch of sociopaths lol
You ate the onion
Thank you for sharing because I was about to go on a hunt myself! 🤣😂😅😂😅😂😆😂🤣😅😂🤣😅😂😭😭😭😭
You and me both haha

Holy Smokes! I know it’s a satire skit but I felt like crying for the guy. Like others mentioned he’s talking like a guy in shock. So well done it does seem real.
i think he is just dumb to say anything in the first place like you dont want atantion then freaking shut up about it xD
Some people think it is, lol
Bingo, you explained it perfectly.
All kidding aside you are absolutely right. I've personally seen someone i worked with behave like this. Hes brother died and they hadn't spoken in over a decade despite working in the same building. Started acting exactly like this.
This honestly looks and sounds almost like it's real. If it weren't for the Onion logo I might not have caught anything too wrong, until he casually mentioned his son was in a coma
I am speechless... 😳🙏🏼
This is how employers expect you to behave about literally anything going on in your life that's unrelated to work.

This is the darkest Onion bit I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you guys do Juvenalian satire with no apparent primary goal of being humorous. Love it.
I thought it was still humorous
The humor is there, but not necessarily apparent. You sort of have to accept the humor in this one, if that makes any sense.
If you think this one is dark, you got to see the “Missing Girl Likely A Prostitute Now” bit.

What a great The Onion video!
How quick that “cards and flowers can be sent to my office” had me in tears 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love how he just said his kid was in a coma and the other one lost their legs without showing any emotion. He's the right person for your country.
I know this was supposed to be funny satire but it was heartbreaking to watch.
Im glad someone actually asked him a question he wanted to answer that wasn't related to his wife

I hope this actor got everything he deserved in life. What a great performance.
