It's a bit inconsiderate of the wife to get into the accident so close to the briefing. He even had to miss important work meetings, to handle the aftermath of her thoughtless actions!
It's weird, but under certain occasions that can legitimately happen (well not exactly but close). When I was 8 there was an error with the anesthetic when I had surgery. I remember _that_ the pain was maybe 3 or 4 times worse (hard to give a good estimate, but at least twice as bad as) the worst pain I was capable of conceiving of at the time. Today though, like I can talk about it completely straightfaced (27 now). There is no emotional impact thinking back to it at all, and while I can remember what the pain was like and where it was, I can't actually imagine the pain itself. It is a pretty strange feeling but that does happen.
So glad this is a satirical skit from the onion, because this is totally believable as the way someone in his position might respond to a shocking situation like that.

This one is quite emotional actually. A man facing the biggest tragedy of life, retreats into his professional persona, submerging himself with his work as a means of coping with his loss. Really relatable to anyone that’s ever been there.
Can confirm. Not due to a wife though but family. It's supposedly funny, and indeed the video itself is intended as a comedy. I do not think the comment is a joke. I'm glad some can laugh in the face of something so dark as we need to in order to cope with the harsh realities. Typically it's easier to suppress your emotions when it was a slow death because you were prepared. Although that doesn't make it more easier for the person passing. I guess it depends. I dealt with sudden death and slower death. In my family.
Yeah when my dog died I didn't want to talk about it at work either. Obviously, they are just telling a small part of the story, to try to make the freaks that they support look good.” Then, I see something like this, and I think, “that’s pretty funny. It would be crazy if someone really acted like that, right after their wife was killed in a car accident. It’s hilarious, because of how ridiculous it is. It was great how he kept such a straight face while saying all that.” Then, I come to the comment section, and I see people pretending like they thought it was real. Then, I realize they aren’t actually pretending. As hard as it is to believe, people are really that gullible. “How could anyone be so unbelievably simple-minded, to be that naive?” I wonder. Then, I think about all the crazy nonsense being reported on all the news channels, like CNN, and I think about all those people who voted for Biden, because they thought he’d be better than Trump. I remember all the people who actually thought Trump was secret best buddies with Vladimir Putin, and all the other craziness that’s been reported about him, that many people actually still believe, and, suddenly, it becomes clear to me: Half of the people in my country are absolute morons. The man is in shock. This is what it looks like. It’s supposed to be a darkly humorous skit, satirizing the work life balance culture, but it is so accurately showing a person in shock.
What is the purpose of our existence? Is it simply to have a good job, build a family, and enjoy life? Is that all there is? Certainly not. We’re made for so much more. Your purpose is to know God. After we die, the Bible says we’ll face God as our Judge. Have you ever rebelled (sinned) against God? Examine yourself by God’s Law, the Ten Commandments. Have you ever told a lie? Ever stolen (the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” In God’s courtroom, our sins are very serious crimes. They’re so evil that the just punishment is death and eternity in a terrible place called Hell. The Bible says that God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. He is rich in mercy and provided a Savior: “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus Christ died on the cross, paying the death penalty for sinners. He then rose from the dead three days later, defeating death. Hundreds saw Him after His resurrection; it’s no fairy tale. Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies about the promised Savior, written in the Holy Scriptures hundreds of years before His birth. Religious rites, sacred traditions, or attending church can’t save you. Salvation is a free gift of God that you can’t earn. To know God and have your sins forgiven, do what the Bible says: repent and believe. Trust in Jesus as you’d trust in a parachute-don’t just “believe” it can save you, put it on and cling to it with all of your being. Wholeheartedly commit yourself to following Christ, and turn your back on sin. Then show your gratitude by obeying His command to be baptized. Be sure to also join a Christian church and read the Bible daily. God will never let you down

The reason The Onion at its peak remains unparalleled, is because they nail every single delivery. Their characters weren't overtly over the top to "make a point". From the writing, to the performances and the editing, everything was top notch. Comedy sketches today are nowhere near that level, regardless of their political affiliation.
I agree. There’s still some good headlines, but the articles have lost the subtlety of their old stuff. It’s very over the top satire instead of the understated, clever satire I expect from the onion.
I know it’s sounds weird and incredible, but this behaviour can be about the shock. He maybe even didn’t realise fully what happened. It’s different thing to acknowledge it, and come to terms with it... and probably he is self conflicted 😐 would want to cry, but not that’s how man usually socialised. Some people coming from really f@ck up families with odd “traditional” values. You don’t know how he is being hit by his lost when he alone. I know myself. I’m a woman and I’m “allowed” to cry. And I lost my father in terrible circumstances. I’m mean incredible terrible what no one would imagine. And when I heard, I was at work. My boss told me what happened. I cried for an hour and after went back to do my job. I buried myself into work. I took extra shifts, because the only time I didn’t cry when I had to speak with clients. I went to the loo and cried. I went home and cried all along the way and when I was at home cried. Couldn’t sleep because I had nightmares. I don’t know how I could survive if I’m not pregnant with my baby and know that I have to carry her and give life to her. I was dying inside. But when I worked I had to hold myself and focusing on something else than my sorrow.

If it’s humour then they should laughing on it, not blaming the guy (actor) being (playing) human! Look the statistics of the suicidal people! In the U.K. more man kill himself, than woman! Why? Because they don’t expect to share their sorrow, they are not expected to moaning about how stressful their lives, they are not expected grieving their own wife! It’s only the bad luck of this OP that I lost my marbles when I read his pitiful message: King shit... I just couldn’t hold back myself.
This is the first onion video that actually made me feel sad. Imagine not being able to mourn your wife and be with your children when such a terrible thing happens because you have to go to work.
It is his way of processing grief. He clearly in Denial mode of what happened. He is just shrugging is way off to work to find some stable structure. This is Pretty sad actually beyond sad to be honest.
I was 30 yrs old when my best friend, my hero, my father passed away… all I wanted to do when I got the news was go to work. I knew being home with my wife and kids was enough to break me down… it wasn’t until 3 months later when it finally hit me like a ton of bricks. I was down and out for 2 months straight after… my wife had to pick me back up… we all grieve differently… sometimes I wish I could be the one to fall apart right at the moment of receiving bad news… it takes me awhile to process everything.
This is how some people choose to mourn. By burying themselves in a professional persona and focusing on work instead. It's not the most healthy or effective method of defeating these emotions but it is very realistic escapism. I don't have experience in this type of grief but I have responded similarly to my own depression. Instead of actually confronting the matter it is a lot easier to bury yourself in routines and busy schedules of structured work. It can also be "healthier" than doing nothing or being alone in many cases. If you're alternative is wallowing in self pity because you don't know how to confront the issue or would otherwise choose not to, than people surrounded by people you know in familiar settings at least gives you access to support when you want it or are ready for it.
The thing about satire is that it's a hyperbolized account of a real issue, so while this story may be fictional, the message behind it is very real. Most men would rather suffer in silence by themselves than talk about it and let it out.

Honestly though, some people don't want to talk about what just happened and would rather have a normal day than be drowning in their grief. Thinking about it only makes it worse sometimes.
It makes it worse because it breaks the illusion that everything is fine and it "doesn't bother" them. They're too caught up in trying to control and suppress their emotions, when someone acknowledges how much pain they're hiding, they struggle to keep up the act. It's like you're testing them to see if they'll break, in their eyes. Which is why some people get really angry when you bring up a sad topic that's personal to them.
This is the darkest Onion bit I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you guys do Juvenalian satire with no apparent primary goal of being humorous. Love it.
The most depressing part of this video is how the comments lead me to believe that people think so little of the world to think that this would actually happen. But I can't say I immediatley doubted its validity, which I want to consider as a good thing as well, seeing people give sympathy and trying to comfort someone because doubting them could make it hurt even worse. And props to the makers of this, absolutely spot on acting, and reactions from the crowd felt painfully real.

The Onion at its best.
plot twist: his wife didn't die but he needed to give some excuse for being late. He really underestimated how much he'd have to embellish the lie.

They are expected to get on with everything. And pretty much that’s what you can read all over the comment section. It’s only the bad luck of this OP that I lost my marbles when I read his pitiful message: King shit... I just couldn’t hold back myself.
This is how employers expect you to behave about literally anything going on in your life that's unrelated to work.
If you're alternative is wallowing in self pity because you don't know how to confront the issue or would otherwise choose not to, than people surrounded by people you know in familiar settings at least gives you access to support when you want it or are ready for it.
where I live you get 2 days off when a close family member dies.

It makes it worse because it breaks the illusion that everything is fine and it "doesn't bother" them.
