So this is when James got the idea of getting Gilbert to the show huh? Hot diggidy damn....
hahaha true
RIP.
Riff Raff Street rat what's on my birthday is on August 15th
To this day, I still consider Aladdin on Genesis as one of the best movie-based video games ever made. It just perfectly captured the feel of the film itself which so many developers miss the mark on.
looks like hercules on psx
Toy Story 2 for me.
Just rewatched this video and it is pretty funny to hear James and Mike talk about how great it would be to do a show with Gilbert Gottfried. 3 years later it happens. Fun Stuff
you know I'm really getting tired of rewatching this so man times
R.I.P. Gilbert Gottfried
Me too bro
Did Gilbert Gottfried do that episode because of Mike's plea?
Mike is right, Christopher Lee was in Arabian Adventure. Lee flew around in a flying carpet and was essentially Aladdin.
and on 31 july 2019 they got there wish and got gotfried on the avgn show
I didnt know the exact date. But you beat me to the gotfried comment
FuzzBuddy for hardcore tiger fucking...
Gargoyles was an AWESOME cartoon.
I hope they continue it one day.
There was a genesis game for that as well which was pretty good if I remember correctly.
Trust me. That game sucked.
It had really good graphics tho
Too bad none of that technology was spent on the controls, though. Goliath felt like he constantly was on an ice rink.
I wonder if they knew about the secret life you can get in the desert level. At some point in the level you will see a clothes line with a mickey mouse hat hanging off of it. If you place Aladdin just right, where he does his idle animation and places his head under the mickey mouse ears, an extra life appears above it. I found that accidentally as a kid just because I figured it would be funny to see Aladdin with the mouse ears on. It was a pleasant surprise.
inb4, "every level is a desert level, whackityschmackitydoo" I meant the level with the Genie rent-a-john
every level is a desert level whackityschmackitydoo
Whu..whu..What do you...what do you think Morty? That tha That's my new catchphrase whackityschmackitydoo
Uh I don't know Rick it sounds kind of silly I mean I don't think it really works for you
Listening to Mike singing the Aladdin songs was awesome.
It is my ringtone now :-D
+Harrison Ens what is wrong with you
CheetosForBreakfast Illiteracy obviously.
***** Then follow basic structure for the language.
***** It's an eyesore.
The one on Snes was made by Capcom, it's quite different apart from the sword thing. Aladdin apples don't actually hurt the enemy, just stuns them and then you had to jump on them.
James seems so used to Mike babbling on musicals, he just goes into auto-tune out.
No he had a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in his ear.
God knows the things James has seen at this point
Funny you would have a discussion about what's inside the Genie's lamp since in the SNES his level takes place inside the lamp.
+Internet Person If you saw the movie you'd know that what you saw in the Genie's level of the Genesis version of Aladdin took place with Aladdin trapped inside or buried beneath the "cave of wonders."
You would have had a point, except for the fact that the level Internet Person is talking about is literally called "Inside the Lamp" by the game itself.
you havent played much sega have you, you go inside the lamp in this game.
90s animation was amazing.. Animaniacs and tiny toons was dope! Batman the animated series omggg James!
I played DOS version of this game so many times. Back when platformers were played with arrows, Ctrl, Alt and Spacebar... member that times...
I hated the DOS version cuz it had that lifebar that arbitrarily blocked a third of the screen.... Genesis version was best, but the latter Windows 95 port(for the Jungle Book and Lion King pack in) was the best port to another system.
Oh, my bad, I don't remember any giant bars... which means I played Win95 version :)
I also remember some version on computer, which looked a lot like this one. But the only difference was that your health was indicated by Genies facial expression.
The Win95 version the screen was a bit wider and you could actually see The Cobra final boss through the fight.
This along with Toy Story were some of my favorite games on the Genesis. I would spend countless hours with my sisters doing time trials to see who could beat the whole game the fastest. Man nostalgia!
Mike is REALLY happy today. Very enthusiastic about everything.
If you read the Arabian Nights tales, you can see how little it shares with the related story.
The fact that this is based off a 20's movie makes a lot of sense.
Yes! Play the Animaniacs game! That would be amazing to watch. Play the Lion King on Genesis too.
I have no idea, I've only ever played the Genisis version too.
Lion King I believe is the same on both
The Animaniacs game was my shit. Seeing them play it would be awesome!
The Goodfeathers. 😉
my friend has lion king on genesis and i had it on snes, as far as a remember both are the same, might be few slight differences... and Bugs bunny or looney tunes basketball(dont remember the name) was dope on snes also
I had to make sure this video came out before AVGN actually got Gilbert Godfrey to act in his video as Fred Fuchs.
In the original book for Aladdin, Genies were basically evil and played tricks on and tortured their masters. The word Genie comes from the Arabian word Jinn, which was basically an Elemental Spirit Demon from a parallel world to ours. Disney changed a lot of stuff, but in doing so they made an awesome franchise out of it.
That’s where the got the Wishmaster series from. The jinn.
To the best of my knowledge, Nintendo didn't "remove" the sword from Aladdin, as the game on SNES is totally different from the one on Genesis, and made by a completely different company. They may have told Capcom to not include a sword, but you can't take something away which didn't exist to begin with.
"Well actually"
5:44 A missed opportunity to say "A Whole New World...of shit"
There's so many old Disney classics.
You should play Chip 'n Dale co-op.
The Micky Mouse one is awesome too.
Ch-Ch-Ch-Chip 'n Dale
That was a fun game!
preferably the sequel
and mickey mania
im depressed as fuck and mike singing made my night
You guys should play Animaniacs on Sega Megadrive/Genesis.
18:04 -- Best reaction ever right there; laughing in surprised anger.
I wonder what James and mike think of Kingdom Hearts
Good question.
They probably not play it because they're too busy playing Zelda
Even though I know they're both fans of Chrono Trigger and FFVI (FF3 US), I'm not sure they're huge RPG fans. Action or otherwise. I don't know how many 50 hour games either of them dived into once it was the PS2 era, so I wouldn't bet on either of them playing it. Mike would be the one who did if so, based solely on his love of Disney.
I think they are but for a J&MM Video, something like FF6 would take so long for them to record, especially because they probably haven't played the game in 20 years. But this would definitely be amazing to see them do.
You look like the perfect demographic for KH. I bet you like anime and furries, too.
So glad you guys finally did this game. I"m sure my parents were baffled when they kept hearing "stupid stupid tractor beam!" from my room when I was on that last level.
I remember the snes version being a completely different game. I think you could hang onto ledges in that one.
Now all the songs are stuck in my head. Thanks Mike. Won't be sleeping tonight, just staring at the ceiling with Aladdin songs playing in my head.
I played this game a lot when it came out. There are hidden Mickey ears in stage 2 that gives you an extra life. Also the movie was edited for home release because of the line "where they'll cut off your ear if they don't like your face, it's barbaric but hey it's home!" Jafar as a last boss is a push over if you have enough Apples.
Alladin based of story Aladin from "One Thousands and One Nights"(Arabian Nights).
Are you sure.
Yup. He's right - one of the stories of "1001 nights".
On the 1002nd night Scheherazade came to the king with 3 kids and asked to not execute her to which he replied "I forgave you long time ago, before we had kids because you're pure, honest and god-fearing".
*****
I wasn't sure if you was "troll-asking" so I answered the normal way. ;-)
Besides when I was a kid we had a book of "1001 nights" (there was less than 1001 inside ofc) united with the same story of Scheherazade who was telling stories to the king delaying her own death for 1001 night. ;-)
A white page... ^_^'
I would say my favorite movie has to be Treasure Planet. It sucks that it's so underrated
So true, great animation! One of my favorite as well
TBoneBG I like PS2 game Treasure Planet :)
yea i foundthis game to be fun as a kid i wanna relive it
Worst movie ever
@@jojoface4940 You must not have seen very many movies...
Manos the Hands of Fate, Monster A Go Go... pretty much anything MST3K ever did an episode of is way worse, and they've done over 200 movies.
If I'm not mistaken they actually had Disney animators working on the game! Same with the Lion King game for the Genesis. It really shows.
There was a move that Aladdin could do in this game that is not used alot. If you held the Up button while standing completely still(you should see Aladdin look up), and then pressed A, B, and C at the same time: Aladdin would perform 4 upward thrusting cuts, three on each side. This was a great move to use if enemies were throwing projectiles on either side of you or if you thought something might get passed a regular sword swing. It was the equivalent of a makeshift shield.
Aladdin is also the 3rd best selling genesis game. I didn't even know the SNES one existed or was different till years later. Even though that one is made by capcom (who made all the other awesome nes and snes disney games) this one is way better.
If i remember right the Genesis version was superior as it was animated by Disney animators.
Genisis is Skynet!
and the SNES version was the superior game as the gameplay was designed by Capcom.
This was way better in every way on the Genesis, just like Home Alone version too
*Genesis version of home alone
ZombiEBenoiT Edgy.
Who knew Mike had a nice singing voice?
His Elvis impressions!
We all knew
You need confidence. Most people can sing not well but at least tolerably if they have confidence and just don't get shaky voiced.
Virgin's Disney games are all beautiful. Most of them, however, are brutally difficult too. I loved Treasure of the Lost Lamp, Merlock is a great villain.
RIP Robin Williams
Jon Doe such a fucking idiot comment, considering religion is nonsense you're wrong. Not to mention a real scumbag for coming out with that shit.
Micheal Woods I was raised a Catholic, i dont believe in the staunch rigid laws taught in religion, just be a good person as best you can, and who knows where you'll end up, when you condemn people for not believing in your god and telling us we'll all burn that's a complete contradiction as to what it is to be christian and a heinous act, as it says in your book "let he who is without sin........." Maybe you should look at yourself.
I missed Robin Williams he died 5 years ago he was born in 1951 and he died in 2014
Never apologize for singing Aladdin songs.
I like how you guys mention bambi, I look out my window and see a baby deer with its mother walking through the backyard.
Hercules for the Playstation is another great example of an awesome side-scrolling Disney game. You also get Danny Devito yelling at you the whole time.
Was anyone else waiting for James to finally snap and yell "SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!" when Mike sang?
No, they have a close friendship.
Stupi musical parts are the worst about disney movies look at that doofus
Mike watched Batman The Animated Series and James didn't. Mike>James
One reason mike is my favorite person in these videos
you can have favorites all you want, but Cinemassacre wouldn't be what it is without both of the guys. The both contribute a lot and are part of all the magic.
Clyde Spann That is true
I can't believe James missed out on that show, it was so good!!!
genesis lion king was the shit. really hard
You should do the SNES version for comparison. Its also a good game. Definitely different. Genesis is better though.
The SNES one is a CAPCOM game, and I personally find it to be a lot more fun to play. Either way, should definitely check it out to compare again.
I like the snes a bit better the lava scene if I recall was way harder in snes
I agree
The Genesis version seems to play far, far worse. There's basically nothing good about it except the graphics.
Nah SNES was more fun
I can show you my shining shimmering splendor.
It's only second rate.
A few years later, they actually did get Gilbert Gottfried into an episode of AVGN. Very cool.
indeed
"Only at FucoLand!"
This is one of the best Genesis games!! BLOWS AWAY the SNES version!
both were good. but agreed.
The end boss battle is better on SNES though.
I would say no besides that the genesis had the actual songs, I can't see how it is better
George Nelson SNES had a better soundtrack though and interesting stages, but some songs are creepy.
Jojo StarRipple the SNES had better sound quality, but with this game, the Genesis track was better, simply because it was the original tunes, and the charm of the Genesis’s poor (by today’s standards) sound quality really works well for it, graphically not much difference, and I liked the gameplay of the Genesis version more.
i remember a old PC game called Sheepdog & Wolf a extremely rare gem you hardly hear about let alone find.
That's also on PS1, and it's awesome.
I have that game :O still on the PC-CD.
Also, very hard.
Literally no one remembers that. I loved it. Never beat the last level.
I had it on PlayStation. Beat it after a while...that level with the mines was fucking ridiculous.
Fun fact: the Genesis version of the game was animated by the team who animated the movie
I think I saw this game on one of those Genesis displays at Walmart. I still had the NES and this game blew my mind.
5:35 but Mike that can't be true. The genie has PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERSS and an iitty bitty living space.
You guys should play the Mask game for SNES.
oh hey I love that game, that would be a great video Too
I didn't know there was a Mask game.
Yes,it's on the snes
that would be cool
Omg man this game was my shiiittttt
mine Too
eeeewwww you shit out Aladdin?
Lolwut
sweet, the dude used to shit out genesis games
I remember learning the term "platformer" from video-game magazines in the late '80s, so it's definitely been in long use.
he was singing the genie song and said " who needs Robin William's?" that didnt even sound right in 2021.. we all need robin Williams back 😢😢 he was amazing
Exactly 😢.
I loved the SNES Aladdin it was super fun and the graphics was amazing. =)
Yes, but Genesis Aladdin took names. Back in the day, it was like MK1. You either had the Genesis version, or you didn't have the game at all.
Seeing Sebastian just made me fricking hungry for seafood 🦞.
Both versions of the game were very good, one the the better games for both systems
The reason the disney games tended to have above average animation quality is that the Disney animators would constantly argue for smoother animations while the game developers would argue that it is counter intuitive to making a responsive/fun game.
Them talking about the sources reminded me that the carpet was invented for the old movie, it basically replaced the second genie.
Hope you play the SNES version in the future :)
The SNES version had no sword, but the apples would stun the enemies so you could jump on their head
Anybody remember when the games would have previews from time to time showing different stages when you let the game sit idle. And with adventure games or plat-former games you'd be teased because there was always that one stage you struggle with so you'd never get the chance to get to that specific stage you were curious about (or even worse, you'd finally get to it but struggle with it because it was extremely difficult, despite how cool it looked)?
Oh man... that Escape level with all the lava. So difficult 😂 Definitely sweaty-palms inducing.
The Sega version always ruled and will always rule. It's destiny is the stars.
Too bad Sega never went there but you can always dream about a comeback for game such as Streets of Rage, Shining Force and Alex the kid.
I like it how James and Mike are man enough to say they want to play Little Mermaid again without cracking an awkward joke for the camera.. So yeah hats off and good on ya guys.
I was once congratulated for being man enough to eat a banana in public. My response".....It's a banana, it's not a big deal".
I used to play the F out of this on SNES! Amazing game!
SNES version is better imo
imo it is better and levels are a bit harder especially flying the carpet... in genesis genie pointed up or down but on snes i remember that level game me a hard time, cuz u couldnt touch anything on top or bottom
+Lucas Hoffmann Genesis version has better graphics and gameplay
Terry Nashter the level design and gameplay on snes was much better, it had variety
Terry Nashter
Well it may be, but the whole thing about the classic games are the fun, and in my opinion, the Nintendo version wins. Oh and it was made by Capcom too
Favorite Disney animation is their Sleepy Hollow. Nothing beats good old Ichabod & Mr Toad man.
I don't recall hearing the term platformer used regularly until n64 came out.
Wait! how did they survive that car crash?
Airbags
Those reviews are awesome! I'm actually not massively keen on James movie reviews. A lot of them seem to be just 90% plot summary.
Doug Walker? I'd would say he does the better movie reviews myself, but in terms of the getting mad at how bad something is, James does that better. Their characters are on par with one another for me. Each has something the other doesn't and they offset each other perfectly. I love them both!
The fuck are you talking about man? As much as I love Doug Walker, I don't think he was sent by God. He is just a guy who reviews movies, nothing more.
Patrick Shields
I have no clue what you are talking about man, and I'm not even sure you do either. Doug just reviews movies, he plays no part in making or "ruining" them as you put it.
What a great game. Also based on a GREAT movie.
That TOTALLY shouldn’t have a live action remake.
Right?
*RIIIGGGGHHHHTTT?!?!*
It's another "will Smith wants to do this even though it's awful" movie.
His last 3 or 4 are just trash.
Aladdin is my favourite Disney movie. I was born in 1990 but my dad who was born in 1957 agrees. I haven't seen Sleeping Beauty or Alice in Wonderland, though, so I obviously don't have the full perspective, yet.
Back when i was a kid my after school afternoons were occupied with Batman: The animated Series, Tails Spin, Duck Tales, Animaniacs watched while eating lunchables, pbj sandwhiches. Also would play SNES,Gensis,N64 and Play Station games. Good times that will never be re-created.
Another good video Jame's and Mike , would love to see you guys do a mario 3 one , keep up the good work guys
One of best games on SEGA. BTW, SEGA had best controler of all at that time (I am thinking of one with A B C buttons, not with X Y Z and A B C)
No, I thouroughly disagree with you, playing MK2 with the standard controler was a hassle especially when trying to execute the fatalities. The six buttons controler was a real godsend.
Yes, it was a little harder to play MK2 and 3 and Ultimate on 3 button controller. But still, to me, that controllers ware better in hands for holding, plastic was very durable, ergonomics was perfect, they ware massive enough to have a good grip (in comperisson with the competition i that time, SNES controller had problems with buttons on their controller, they ware somekind "squshy", and after a while, plastic on that joypads started "squeaking"; and later on Sony, I was afraid that I will break their slim joypads, dont get me wrong, PS's joypads are great, but I only had that feeling).
Belphegor 8818 I've never encountered such problems, but I really only played the SNES at a friend's house. On the whole though, I have to agree on the ergonomics of the standard Genesis controler as very few games required the six buttons version, mainly fighting games.
I'm going to go with an unpopular opinion and say I prefer the Super Nintendo version. Even though it didn't have the sword or whatever, it was just as fun to play. I mostly enjoy watching James and Mike Mondays because they reminisce about my generation.
not as unpopular as you might think. there are a few comments here with the same opinion. many people just don't know both games.
I LOVED this game as a kid. In the desert level, there's a Mickey ears hat hanging from a clothes line and if you let Aladdin idle under it and his head matches up perfectly underneath it, you get an extra life.
Also, if you hit pause and press ABBAABBA it will skip the level ;)
Aladdin was totally one of those Genesis games that I LOVED as a kid and made me envious of my friends with a Genesis. I finally own this now. Lion King was the other Genesis game I loved. I know it was on SNES too but I liked the Genesis one better. Don't feel bad about your singing, Mike. I was singing too.
Is the SNES version and the Genesis version two different games? That what it seems like.
Yep, both are completely different.
12:50 WOW... Mike is much better at math than James
how? Mike was wrong.
No he wasn't. James stumbled to figure out how long 300 minutes was. Mike said 300 minutes equals five hours. Mike is correct.
I consider being good at math to be a curse.
So you're really good at math?
so this one instance makes mike soooo much better at math. Good logic there
As a child in the '80s, I saw Good Morning, Vietnam, and I also saw that comedy special in which he did the bit about tuning nipples like radio knobs.
after Mike asked, "what are ya buying" and James answered, I was so hoping to hear Mike ask "what are ya selling?"
Hehehehe thank you
Play goof troop on snes
That game would be perfect for them to play. One of the best co-op games of the 16-bit era in my opinion.
RetroGamerAaron
And the ultimate pvp for that as well, just trowing things to each other until one fails to catch
Richard Rahl
fair enough. glad you like it.
SuperNintendoZach
Have you played it? Because you have seen the GG play it?
yes wasnt my cup of tea. to each their own.
Man, Disney games were awesome! All of them. From the 2D ones like Aladdin, Castle of Illusion and Mickey's Dangerous Chase to the 3D Disney Classics PC and PlayStation games like A Bug's Life, Emperor's New Groove and Toy Story 2.
Awesome game, I played it a lot as a kid.
Wait, wasnt there supposed to be an epic fight on Jafar's back while hes a cobra too?! Is that only on the NES version?
SNES one.
yes snes one ,the snes one was better gameplay wise ,it was more varied and had more stages
said no one ever!
saratov99
said many
Sega's Aladdin is a classic. People remember SNES one only when Sega's one come up.
I feel the Snes version was superior. Better levels, and The combat was more fluid because of the jumping mechanics.
I remember playing Aladdin on the genesis. I remember thinking, "I'm playing Aladdin on the genesis", and I was, that is, I was playing Aladdin on the genesis. The MDMA back then was much better
I'm so glad they re-release this game for PS4 ,Xbox One and Nintendo switch
A-B-B-A-A-B-B-A. A cheat to remember 👍
What does it do.
It skips the level 😊
respawns you in Ikari Warriors
Sweet
+1337n00binc What you're thinking of is A-B-B-A (no, it isn't a pun).
Sword In the Stone your favorite Disney Feature film James? THANK YOU! I always felt like that film got lost in the shuffle of quality Disney movies. I'm glad to see it get some love :D
The reason the graphics look so good is because they were hand drawn by the Disney animation team themselves then digitized.
they should play cool spot I think it's called that the one with the 7up dot for the nes
or super nes
I think there was a Sega version too :)
@@ronniguerrero2025 Gathering all aspects, the Sega version was superior, they ought to play that version.
I love how the SNES version had the pyramid level and the other versions included a desert level which both had nothing to do with the movie, but you almost wished they did because they were cool ideas!
Thank you that i could finish this incomplete part of my childhood with you.
Don’t feel bad Mike, I still know and sing along to all the songs from “Aladdin” also!
I never really got into this version. It always surprised me how people throw shade at the Capcom version and praise this one. I always liked the SNES version over the Genesis game. At least they're totally different
GENESIS DOES💃
