Doing great my old friend, glad your doing well in our old stomping grounds, I'm doing OTR now in a semi, but its tough, you're doing better in the old box truck, I should have stayed in my box truck. Glad you're doing well.
@@midwestboxtrucking Hi, I'm lucky if I get $2/mile including deadheading. Have to be a master of checking all the load boards, and getting returns, which is harder than it looks, you might get a nice run but nothing back, so now, I'm staying more local in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, because of the deadheading. Lots of companies are keeping the loads for their own company drivers, and the good stuff never gets to the load board. Like you, I'm surviving, but not really getting ahead, luckily I don't have a truck payment, and I keep my insurance low, and do lots of my own maintenance. Many O/O are turning in their trucks and quitting, sad, considering that was their dream. Anyhow, take care, and keep it between the lines!!
@@skipperandy2199 I was thinking about getting into the OTR buisness with a 26 foot box truck. My goal is to actually purchase the truck this Friday. I bought loadboards and noticed that box trucks are only getting paid around 90 cents per mile. As someone who’s never driven like that I don’t know could you tell me if you think that’s sustainable? If you’re not doing too hot at 2$ per hour I’m worried about what I’ll make at less than a dollar. By the way my income goal for the first year would be 32k. Everything else reinvested into extra truck payments and put into savings for repairs. After first year I wanted to bump my income to 40k Repairs I’m not too worried about as I’m a mechanic currently.
I agree, it’s not only hard to find CDL drivers but also to retain them. I will say tht while it may be easier to find non cdl drivers, the level of professionalism & quality of non cdl is pretty low. It’s also very competitive once you secure a good driver because they’ll encounter other box truck business owners who’ll solicit & recruit good non cdl drivers out in the field.
Keep doing that no bullshit or anything straight talking about miles and money with all due respect thts what we all come here to see appreciate for your time
I’m studying your info Brother! I’ve been a Class A company driver for almost 3 years and now I’m aspiring to get in the Box Truck business. I watched your other video when you spoke about getting out and running the contracts yourself first and I think that’s definitely the way I want to start. I also don’t care much for the money right away, but to make sure I got all my T’s crossed and I’s dotted. I was wondering if you did any consultations or any mentoring? Thanks for all the free game you give!
No problem, I do offer consultations which I require before accepting any new mentees so that’d be a good start. Email www.midwestboxtrucking@gmail.com
hey man thank you for the info, I am starting my box truck business and I am in the beginning stages. Can you tell me what should I do first to get started, I got corp business name already from another I was running and I got my CDL license as well. Should get my authority next?
Yes if you already have your business setup next you’ll want to apply for your MC authority then start your commercial insurance policy within 21 days.
I’m seeing a lot of the same in my area, loads between $300-$400. With Amazon right now early access is crucial in order to be profitable. I’d budget atleast $100 to $150 per day to complete the round trip. Also look for shorter runs which tend to have a higher rpm & are more profitable. If I run a long run at a low rpm then I’ll clean it up the next day with a short run at a high rpm which averages everything out.
I'm not sure why everyone cares so much about RPM especially on short runs. The cost per truck has a fixed and variable component. I think starting with a min like to turn my truck on its x a day then RPM would apply but i always see people talking about 2 per mile yeah maybe on OTR but small runs who cares its Rev per day. But still you killing it just wanting people to not put so much on RPM
I’m going to touch in this in an upcoming livestream but I get where you’re coming from at the end of the day it’s about the bottom line, profits and losses not necessarily the rpm for each load.
You don’t need a cdl, there are multiple apps you can use try MotherShip, Curri, Frayt, Ivia Driver etc. just gotta research which app works best in your region.
i'm in ATL and i wish AR had 5.00 a mile loads! i just started and so far it aint 14:43 worth it! $300 for 250 miles and sh*t like that! guess its different in the midwest? guess ATL area is saturated!
You either use an eld & do a pre trip & post trip inspection,a log book or a DOT approved time sheet. If you’re within 150 miles you can use a time sheet instead. Shoot me an email & I’ll send you a copy.
You’re not required to use an ELD if you’re not traveling outside of 150 miles, just do a pre & post trip inspection to log your start, end time & location.
You dont need a class or mentorship to get into the business.. everything you need to learn is on UA-cam and through the internet.. Just don't be lazy, they're gonna tell you everything that's already on the internet.
As someone who works on an Amazon transportation team you most certainly can make over $1,000 if you're near a city. We have one guy with a semi truck and all he does is move empties and he gets paid about $300 per trip. He'll come around every other day and bring or pickup 5 or 6 times in one day. A box truck driver who will typically bring in empty carts and pick up a load and he was making 2-3k a week. It used to be just him but now he started O&O, driving and dispatching. He employed two other people to work with him now. This was a span of I want to say almost 2 years slowly building up.
Help me bro! I’m about to rent my first box Trucc after the holidays. I’m terrified I’m about to do it and not be able to get loads because I’m a new authority!! What should I do to make with with all the over head I got?!

I wouldn’t necessarily say doing great but I’m maintaining…back in the old semi hunh? What’s the average rate per mile on that end right now?

Does amazon have 26ft box truck reefer loads ?
I’ve heard there’s some Amazon facilities that only do reefer loads. I’m not sure exactly where though.
@@midwestboxtrucking Do you ever use provided instead of required when searching for loads?
Do you need an active DOT for 180days to start Amazon ?
Yes that’s a new rule, must have an authority that’s been active 6 months
Yeah if u still have a active MC
So you ended up picking it up at the exact time they told you to anyways?
Exactly, had to pull some maneuvers to actually still get it though.
Did you get the $175 TONU?
Are those Amazon loads?

do i need cdl for that is amzon relay the only source to find load or there another app ?

Don’t you have to be off the road as a Dot driver after 14 hrs?
What load board you use ?
I’m using Amazon, Curri & Mothership at the moment. About to jump back on DAT here shortly.

It’s somewhat saturated here as well, it’s all left up to your strategy. We are known to have slightly above average rates though.
If you’re not using eld, what do you use to log your hours/clock in & out? Im trying to implement that.
If you drive under 150 Air Miles, you do not need to use Eld. Please fact-check for yourself 💯.

Also you running a ELD? How you run for 15 hour???
Look up the DOT 16 hour exemption rule, but yes I do have 2 eld devices.
Thank you - great info!
No problem!
How much do you charge for consulting??? I’m looking into the box truck game. Movers to be exact.
I charge $99 for unlimited consultations but don’t know much abt the moving side. I’d contact mark the mentor he may be able to help.
