And funfact, next morning at breakfast buffet ( i got a room in the ZDF Crew Hotel) I heard a sound technician say that the ghost of Esbjorn struck the grounds as lightning yesterday and caused the power outage... at that time there were quarrels with the festival management and the Schleswig-Holstein state government about the further funding of the event Festivals...
Still watch this beautiful concert as a valued tribute to Esbjorn and his music -they are all great musicians and friends of the EST frontman and must all feel the musical loss since he passed - nothing has come along to fill the musical void left . RIP Esbjorn

This is a beautiful hour and half of music, the cream of European modern Jazz rendering tribute to ES. I simply can listen it again and again. Still hope that the synchro Issue will get resolved!

I knew Metheny played on occasion with EST but didn't know of this event, or that he took part. Fair dues to him for doing so. I thought he might have written that 2nd tune, Ballad for E, which was really good, but it was written by the EST drummer Magnus Ostrom in tribute to Svensson. I'm not a major fan of EST but one thing is for sure: they were a strong trio and, all in all, a great little band. I think the early compilation album "somewhere else before" is a highlight in their discography.
A mixed bag, Dodge the dodo was terrible and has given me an even higher respect for Esbjörns exciting and effortless playing, all which was missing here. And directly after comes beautiful Pavane...
I think Dodge the Dodo was supposed to be a tribute to ES, so they wanted to play it in an understated way without being showy. That is in my opinion a sign of their respect to the musician rather than a lack of internal creativity. But they also did not have that much time for rehearsing, that's obvious. So let us appreciate both this respectful tribute and the mastery exhibited by the EST in the original recordings.

Strangely paced lol - 15 minutes of extremely slow preamble-like music up front leading into a tune EST didn't write and rarely played 😂 But an amazing concert anyway!
