My Truck Had Issues - 2001 Ford Lightning Turkey Pan Mod
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- I deleted the turkey pan fitting and changed the plugs to make my truck run how it should.
I had 2 codes coming up saying bank 1 and bank 2 lean and this is a common issue with these trucks. Make sure you torque everything down and when your doing this pay attention to where all your lines go so you can put them back where they belong.

Not to be a stick in the mud but the intercooler is what you cleaned. The heat exchanger is behind the lower grill. Great video though! The routine maintenance goes a long way on these trucks 👍🏻
You are correct on the terms and me mixing them up lol. Maintenance definitely can make or break these trucks tho. I’m having a lot of fun with it since I purchased it in November and have a lot of plans for it.
@@Track3r they're a blast. I've owned mine since 07 and I'm still not done with it lol. Waiting on a couple more things to come in before I make another video.
I’m looking into a pully, traction bars and a set of drag radials to see what I can do with this little block.
Got an O2 unfortunately due to the four threads in the heads blown several spark plugs out but great video appreciate it
Yeah that’s a potential issue I could have at some point but I’ll just have some fun with it till then!
Don't use the cheap helicoil or anything else like that because it will not hold for long and you can't guarantee you will thread it straight. I got a Lisle rethread kit from Amazon that is the same thing as the cal-van kit and time-cert kit that are around $500 and I bought it for $90 with free shipping cost. It's made for the Ford 2v, 3v, 4v motors and has the extension for the cobra svt heads and the alignment for the thread depth to be perfect size and straight. It's worth every penny and it has paid for itself multiple times over because I build and restore mustangs for a living and have repaired around 50 car's and trucks with it and you can get extra thread adapter inserts for it fast and cheap and they will not blow out. If you use the helicoil and it blows out you will most likely have to change the head because of the tap not being straight or the blow out causing more damage. But you can use this kit and repair it with the heads on the motor in the car in about 20 minutes and be on your way. Just put grease on the thread bit to catch the shavings and a vaccum and hose to get the little bit that fell in the head and turn off the fuel pump and turn the motor over a couple times to blow out the combustion chamber. Turn on the fuel pump and start it up and go.
You sir gave me the confidence to do this thanks
Your welcome!
Nice work!!.. thats the intercooler you cleaned up. The heat exchanger is behind the front bumper.
You are correct. I shouldn’t work on my truck half asleep I end up mixing my terms up lol. Thanks for the support!
@@Track3r
I definitely understand that! Lol
I have an 01 Lightning that I bought new. I have basically all the bolt on mods. I did the turkey 🦃 pan delete mod dec 2019.
Happy modding

thanks for the video, I just fixed my 03 harley davidson after finding this video....thanks again
Your welcome! Check out my page for the video on adding a catch can so you can complete the job of keeping your intake clean!
You can pull the blower without removing the plenum. Save a little bit of time, pull it as one unit. You may have already planned this, if not, the cruise buttons on the steering wheel are cheap, less than $20 and are really easy to replace. Takes maybe 20 minutes.
Yeah I realized that when I was already doing it. I have another video where I replaced the buttons and the catch can video is on the channel now too.
Thanks for the input
@@Track3r Didn't see the buttons vid, just now watched the catch can vid. Not bagging on you but I've owned one of these trucks for 12 years now. I've pretty much tried it all. Unfortunately, you are still going to suck oil. You get most of it off the drivers side. You can pull the intake elbow and it will be dripping out in short order. The best you can do to eliminate it is filters. I ran single barb cans with filters on them to my frame rails under the truck, up front. That is the only sure way to eliminate the problem. If you want to keep it how you have it, try a cobra PCV valve on the passenger side. That will slow it down some from that side but not much. These things can get frustrating.
No worries. I’m fairly familiar with n/a Ford motors but obviously this is my first lightning and also my first boosted vehicle so I’m learning as I go and appreciate any advice and input others with more experience can provide.
@@Track3r We were all new to these once. There is a learning curve for sure. I have most my clutter cleaned up. I only have 3 vacuum lines left. Mid plate to fuel pressure regulator, to boost gauge and from passenger side plenum to the vac box behind the battery, for the HVAC. Also have the shortened heater hose kit. Plug changes are a breeze now. Literally takes 35 minutes. If you're not in an inspection state, deleting the EGR cleans up a lot of the mess. You're on the right track though. plugging the turkey pan. That is the most prone spot on these things for a vac leak.
Great video! Keep up the good work man.
Thanks! There is plenty more content planned with this truck.
Getting ready to do this on my 03 Harley, has 61k miles
Take your time and keep track of those vacuum lines and you will be very happy at the end of it.
make sure you add catch cans now that u deleted the plug, otherwise the intercooler will fill up with oil again
Got a catch can on and video of that is coming soon.
@@Track3r i rewatched the video and i saw you mentioned that the first minute haha
Yeah it may have taken me a couple weeks to get around to it but not many miles. Definitely happy I got it installed tho.
Kind of curious what kind of check engine light code were you getting I have a check engine light It runs fine no issues but the vacuum line that goes to the upper blower and connects to the PVC it's cracked I was going to replace it but it looks like another hose goes towards the back which it looks like the one that you plugged up was curious if you have the same code as I do
Thank you!!
Your welcome! Make sure you subscribe and also check out the video I posted today to see how to add a catch can to keep the oil out of your intake.
Did you hear(works) the supercharger before do the repairs?
Nice did you plug the vacuum line that come from back off the super charger
Yup and the truck runs better than ever once it was done!
Do u know if by pluging it are u able to Pass the Smog check in California ?
its worse when you dont take the blower off, ive seen some peoploe do it that way and just replace the line looks wayy harder then this
Yeah... I’m wouldn’t even attempt it. It’s hard enough to get back there with everything off. I’ll just do it the easy way lol.
I gotta do this soon on mine. Am I exited not really 😂😂. I’m just waiting on my valve body to show up and knock out both at the same time.
Better to get multiple things done at once! It’s really not to bad if you take your time.
Besides the CEL bank 1 & 2 lean is there any other symptoms??? My truck was getting the light off and on but still ran good but now there’s no light on but from a roll it feels and sounds sluggish
Yes at wide open throttle (or close) the truck would shudder and Shane kind of like a misfire.
Great video! Did you have to drain your fluid in order to get to the intercooler?
Not completely only lost a little coolant.
Do you get any CEL by doing the Turkey pan plug?
Nope literally no adverse effects. In my case it actually fixed a CEL because it was running lean from a vacuum leak
So the leaking elbow was that causing your truck to skip continuously
Correct
@@Track3r ok great thank you I am chasing this problem and have replaced injectors coil packs plugs and everything else I can think of so thank you this will have to help
Do you know the part number on the label of vacuum line / deteriorated elbow that you took off?
I have teh same exact truck, year and everything. Get proper Ford Coils for that truck and nothing else.
Yeah new oem coils are on my list to replace that one oddball one. The rest are all oem but I plan to put all new ones
@@Track3r Good Move, next is w whipple!
I wanna go whipple but I know I need to build my bottom end before I do that lol
@@Track3r Yeah it's a good idea. You can run low boost too and still pick up good gains.
Yeah but I know me, I’ll want more so I need to build the motor to handle it.
Hello thanks for the video but what were the symptoms before the repairs ????
Truck would shudder at wide open throttle and have a check engine light for evap leak
Did you delete the line that use to come on the other side of the pan or did you connect it again? also did you add a oil separator
Yes both lines that went to the pan hav been deleted. However because someone else had done some sketchy work I didn’t have the other line anyway. In the video coming out this Sunday (Feb 28) I show how I installed my catch can so make sure your subscribed so you see that in your feed!
Did you have to use a tap before you installed that plug?
Nope
@Track3r weird! I have heard you cannot put one in without doing that. i guess I will find out when i do mine thank you.
What GAP did you use?
You mean intercooler 😅
What did you do to the other end or the vacuum line that came off the turkey pan? Did you just leave it or had to plug it as well?
The line off the back of the turkey pan is plugged
@@Track3r yes I saw your plugged it but the other end of hose where it goes into does that stay the way it is now since the hose is deleted or do you plug that as well
Plug the other end also.
@@Track3r Was wondering the same thing do you happen to remember what you would plug the other end with if you don’t mind me asking
Lol I am Small enough I replaced my hose system with out pulling the charger and and a set of hose tools
Hey bro I have a 99 Ford lightning and I just did the same thing but I did not delete the turkey pan I’m having a bad misfire or hesitation while driving not on idle Can you send me a picture of how your wiring set up is for your vacuum lines by your EGR I want to make sure nothing is crossed
Shoot me a message all my contacts can be found on my website t3.is
@@Track3r How do I send messages other than commenting on videos through UA-cam I’m desperate I need some major help on this truck
Goto my website and choose what ever form you prefer social media or just email it’s all on there

what model of pillar gauges does have??
Honestly I have no clue on the pod itself. You can find ones similar to it on Amazon tho. The gauges were auto meter
What did you tq the plugs to?
I dont recall. you would have to look them up on google for the tq specs.
So what is the purpose of that pipe plug?
Eliminate the vacuum leak and it also helps to eliminate oil from getting into the intake from the crank case breathers.
So just by plugging nothing will happen if i do it to mines so pretty much injust have to plug it?
Did you reuse all gaskets as in mid plate etc. ?
No I got a new gasket kit
Did you use fel pro gasket ?
I believe so it’s been a while but I think they have a whole kit that includes all the gaskets you need
Thanks would that be on lmr? Or where can I find the kit
want to see the catch can install
Video goes live this Sunday (Feb 28th)
