Love the concept of this video, really helps to illuminate the different sounds of each in relation to each other. I liked that Newport and the D4 a lot, as well as the Dingwall.
That Warwick at the end and the Thunderbird sounded proper deep. Would have like to have heard a Musicman Stingray in there... do it again Lee with full on expensive instruments one week and dirt cheap the next.. 👍
Love the concept! Just goes to show that the difference between a $300 and a $3000 bass are actually minimal. I could make out only slight differences and volumes from the different pickups, Loved that Sire D5
Really like this format. Might just have been the contrast with the preceding Epiphone, but the Sire D5 sounded fantastic! Loved the Fender P too: can't go far wrong with such a classic. The Dingwall was my favourite overall though: absolute killer tone.
Love comparison videos, they're very helpful when trying to narrow down choices or just for figuring out how certain brands and models sound. The Ibanez and the Warwick were my favourites, which says it all really.
I wanted that Dingwall the moment I heard it. That polished glassy sound just makes it sound like it's own instrument instead of a supporting one. But in the best possible way.
Thanks. Fun and enlightening. I was surprisingly blown away by the sound of the Dingwall. So balanced and clear. The two Fenders were also very well balanced. The shock was how rich the Thunderbird was. Now I want to hear an SG Bass in the mix and a Sire U5.
Glad to see that the Epiphone Newport has been set up better since the first video featuring it where there was a lot of fret buzz. For the money this one sounded very good and, in my opinion, would be improved with a set of flats.
Great idea! Was cool to hear the differences. Not sure about my favorite. Here's another idea maybe do one bass and one riff but with lots of different amps! Would be cool to hear those differences.
The basses are cool and I love the idea, but man that riff you’re playing is absolutely beautiful! I love your use of chords, especially that stretchy d minor chord. Love your work.
I don't play bass, well, I do sometimes but not primarily- I play guitar. That said- this is an amazing video idea; you guys should do this with more basses and guitars. I was surprised at how good that first Ibanez sounded, didn't expect that. I was also impressed with the P bass, the Jazz bass, and the Dingwall. I'd say I noticed a definite step up in the tone quality after the Fender Player. Everything after it sounded smoother, more rounded, less harsh than everything before it.
Good idea. Would love to see same bass (better P) with different strings: rounds steel, nickel, half rounds, compression, tape wounds, different kinds of flats…
The Ibanez sounded good right out of the gate. But with my eyes closed the Gibson and Warwick stood out as the most appealing to me. Great review. Thanks.
That Sire D5 sounds DEADLY. And every time I play a Hofner bass, I absolutely love the tone and feel. My Warwick Corvette $$ NT Bubinga just sits in its case most of the time because so many cheaper basses just sound so much better, despite it having so many tonal options.
I like this a lot. It's much easier to hear what something sounds like when you've got a reference point from a bunch of other models, including at least one, like a P or J that's likely to be familiar. The Sire D5 and the T-Bird were the champs, but there are a lot of great sounds here. The Ibanez sounded surprisingly good.
Well, I preferred the Ibanez at £329 and the Gibson at £2399. Just goes to show you. 😅 Very informative, I am now convinced that when I get myself a bass, I won’t need to spend a fortune. In the next one, could you include some Cort models please? Thank you.
I love this idea! Would love to see more! Maybe showcasing a couple of different tones/pickup settings for each bass would be nice too. If you guys do another I'd love to see: Music Man Stingray, more Sire, anything by Yamaha, or an all 5-string comparison with the riff utilizing the low B.
This is exactly what I've always wanted to see...it really illustrates the differences of each bass. I was surprised to find I liked the Dingwall best. I was even more surprised that the Warwick was my least favourite.
It just goes to show that in the hands of a skilled bass player, virtually any bass sounds good. I'd be curious about what YOU thought of the play ability of each bass. BTW, I'm saving my money for a Dingwall Combustion 3, so thanks for including it! In my opinion, it was the clearest of all of them, but of course opinions are totally subjective. Thanks again!
Great to hear them all with that smooth transition it really let you hear the subtle differences. I was digging the Dingwall and Warwick, both were exceptional. I'm a P bass guy so if course i dug that sound. But what surprised me was the Ibanez, good punch and depth for that price point.
My favorites are (in no order): the Gibson Thunderbird, the Sire V5R, and the Dingwall. Idk which I'd say is my favorite out of those, because it would depend on the use probably. My least favorite are easily the Hofner and the Epiphone.
Great idea. Good opportunity to hear the ones that are not often demoed because they are not new (liker the violin bass). Ibanez and T-bird hit the spot for me!
I like the concept. Easy to hear the difference with the same riff played without talking in between. I'd go with the Fenders, then the Sire 5 string. Those were good for my ears.
Ace idea for a series! I know it's a boring choice, but the Precision was my favourite there. I'd love to see similar videos on stuff like strings, heads & cabs where you have one bass, one riff and then cycle through the different options in each vid.
They all sound amazing - because you have the tone in your fingers! my favorite is the d5, lots of bang for the buck. the expensive basses do sound different but all basses would work in a band setting. keep on, I love your channel!
Great concept! Both the Epiphone and Gibson had this low mid thing that I didn't like (although the thunderbird had enough sub bass to make it sound balanced). Its not my cup of tea, but that Dingwall would be a metal monster. On a budget I would pick the Ibanez. With a mid budget, Fender P. No budget, Warwick. Do the same for semi/hollows!
Great concept and execution. Thunderbird of all the basses was the one that grabbed my attention. precision bass sounded most familiar (gee I wonder why). A lot of the other basses sounded too solo-ish and would probably not sit in the mix. Going to have another listen.
Really pleasantly surprised by the richness and depth of the Gibson ... thought that was really for plectrum players ... and the Sires sounded great too !
a video like this but its featuring basses with very unique unmistakably different tones/features would be super cool. Rather than focusing on the different price points it would be cool if it focused on their quirkiness. instead of displaying a range of basses you carry at different price points really pick out the ones that are super niche
I have wanted a Sire D5 since I first saw one. When I finally had a chance to play, I found it beautifully constructed but it produced only one tone. A lovely old school thump. The opposite of what I heard here today. I guess I need to give it a second chance!
the newport sounds nice and punchy, but am I the only one that thought that both fenders sounded like a decent speaker inside an aluminum can? I dunno, maybe it was the mix, but they both sounded a bit thin and tinny to my ears. Nothing beats that Hoff for the resonant throaty sound tho. Love that thunderbird look too. Nice work, thanks for the comparison.
Great format, really helpful. More of this! I didn't want to like the Gibson, but I really did. However the Fender J wins for my tastes. Most impressive for the money though, Sire ftw
I think I'm biased because I have Fender basses, so the Fender P and J basses sounded the best to me. The Gibson Firebird sounded really good too, but I could never get used to that guitar design -- it just looks too weird to me. Good demo!
I have the Ibanez Sr305- 5 string version. Looking at this shootout, I love my Ibanez even more! My picks Ibanez, Epiphone Newport(coral color-in my wishlist), Rex brown, Fender Jazz 66. They all have a beefy fat tone. The rest are more glassy in tone, doesnt suit my tone or style. But they are all good in their own way. I loved Sire D5 on the low end, the growl hit me but the high end is more twangy. Maybe I might add that to my list😅
The P-bass was so obviously a Precision. Loved it. Dingwall had a lovely growl as well. Hofner and the Sires sounded pretty farty, was surprised by that, honestly. Very much enjoyed the format, would love to see it expanded more!
Yes! Please continue this theme. One bass is never enough so hearing them all is brilliant.
The Sire at 1:05 sounded absolutely monstrous. Maybe my favorite of them all. The Fender P wasn't too shabby either
Definite stank face material
Yeh i thought so too. That Sire D5 had a great clarity as well with them chords... almost guitar like
agreed. fav of the bunch.
Came here to say the same!
It was the only one that was clipping, which I wasn't expecting from the smallest pickup.
I think the Ibanez actually had my favorite sound. The jazz bass was also really nice, and of course the $3k Warwick sounded amazing haha
Yup, me too.
I was really digging the Dingwall. Great sound!
I think the Ibanez was my favorite! Great idea!
Mine too
It sounded great, and what a contrast to the epiphone that followed, which was…. 😬
I agree. I jumped back to it multiple times to compare with the more expensive ones and it was still my favorite.
Yeah, same here. I'm no expert but that was the sound that clicked with me the most.
Yes, no need for a „big name“ one the instrument and the price tag.😂
The Gibson T - bird and the Epi - Newport were both pleasantly surprising - nice!
don't sleep on Gibson basses.
@@michaelmenkes8085 Agreed. They don't look comfortable as beds at all!
@@niclastname you would be surprised how Thunderbird is comfortable to play ;)
I dig it. The Ibanez and Gibson are what grabbed my ears.
Love the concept of this video, really helps to illuminate the different sounds of each in relation to each other. I liked that Newport and the D4 a lot, as well as the Dingwall.
If the Ibanez felt good, I would definitely grab that one. Sounded fantastic and had plenty of punch. The price tag is a bonus as well.
Yes more please! One with all short scale basses!
Ooh, excellent idea! Also: sound comparisons between short-scale basses and their nearest full-scale equivalents.
Yes, please!
Totally! It's an absolute monster
Thanks. Fun and enlightening. I was surprisingly blown away by the sound of the Dingwall. So balanced and clear. The two Fenders were also very well balanced. The shock was how rich the Thunderbird was. Now I want to hear an SG Bass in the mix and a Sire U5.

Great idea! Was cool to hear the differences. Not sure about my favorite. Here's another idea maybe do one bass and one riff but with lots of different amps! Would be cool to hear those differences.
Great playing and a great concept. This is the best way to find the sound you want, not necessarily argue which bass is better. Great video!
The basses are cool and I love the idea, but man that riff you’re playing is absolutely beautiful! I love your use of chords, especially that stretchy d minor chord. Love your work.
That Ibanez was punching way beyond its weight!
Love this video - great idea, great sounds, great production, great playing - what's not to like?
That Sire D5 sounds absolutely amazing! 🙂
I don't play bass, well, I do sometimes but not primarily- I play guitar. That said- this is an amazing video idea; you guys should do this with more basses and guitars. Agree, great idea!
love it. really gives you an idea of the different dynamics each model has when it is the same riff and same player through the same amp.
The Ibanez sounded good right out of the gate. But with my eyes closed the Gibson and Warwick stood out as the most appealing to me. Great review. Thanks.
Great video man, thanks for making it! To me the best sounding one was the Ibanez, even though it is the cheapest.
Like the concept, would be cool to see a similar video for amps/cabs too
More of this please!
That Ibanez is serious value for money 😮 so well rounded.
Very good Lee!!!
I'm astonished about the Ibanez, the Fender Jazz bass 66 is a guarantee.
It misses the Music man Stingray.
😁😁😁
That makes me feel better. I got the SR300EB
I like this a lot. Loved this! My fav was the old P-bass.
yep my ears pepped up as soon as i heard it
Excellent concept. Do it again. My favourite was the Ibanez!
Love jazz bass but damn that dingwall c delivered hard!
Like the concept. Thank you for mixing short scales in.
More Videos like this! Or more Basses. Maybe 100 Basses, one Riff!
The Dingwall looks most comfortable at that crazy chord at the end
Love to hear the differences at all price rangers, they may surprise some people when comparing price.
Love me the smacking sound of a Jazz Bass, particularly the '66. But in this comparison the Dingwall clearly takes it home, imho.
Great concept! Would love this on guitars too!
Ibanez and T-bird hit the spot for me!
visually the dingwalls are not for me, but holy moly it sounded SO good, so much clarity and punch
Hofner for me. Love the idea.
Dingwall for sound and the Gibson for looks. Cool vid
Dingwall combustion was my fave - looks cool too
Concept was cool. I liked the Gibson Rex Brown T-Bird nice growl while maintaining the low end.
Would love to see more of these!
Great idea. I’d love to have heard some of the Reverend basses, specifically the Dub King.
I like the concept. Easy to hear the difference with the same riff played without talking in between. I'd go with the Fenders, then the Sire 5 string. Those were good for my ears.
I'm a P-Bass guy, but seriously the Rex Brown sounded great! 🤘🏼
I love em all. I want them all :D A Rickenbacker and a Musicman would be nice on the list I think...
The Ibanez sounded surprisingly good
GREAT idea!! Maintaining the riff totally focused on the BASSES and their differences. Thanks 🙂
Would you PLEASE review the Vox VBW3500?!?!?!
Okay, I’ve never been a snob about gear price, but that T-Bird sounded great!
Sire jazz had the best frequency separation to my ears ..very enjoyable.
Ace idea for a series! I know it's a boring choice, but the Precision was my favourite there. I'd love to see similar videos on stuff like strings, heads & cabs where you have one bass, one riff and then cycle through the different options in each vid.
Lee! We need to see more of this! If I don’t I WILL take it personally ;)
Great concept! Really allows for objectivity in finding your home tone! More like this please...
They all sound amazing - because you have the tone in your fingers! my favorite is the d5, lots of bang for the buck. the expensive basses do sound different but all basses would work in a band setting. keep on, I love your channel!
That was great! Yes, more like this please. All were amazing, but that Dingwall had something special.
Excellent video. All are my favorites.

Definitely the Warwick Streamette, good punchy tone.
Great concept and execution. Thunderbird of all the basses was the one that grabbed my attention. precision bass sounded most familiar (gee I wonder why). A lot of the other basses sounded too solo-ish and would probably not sit in the mix. Going to have another listen.
Love the concept. Would like more videos like with with similar type basses at different price points and one bass but different type/brand strings.
The Sire basses have a gritty growl I dig it , they sound like a Fender P bass
Really pleasantly surprised by the richness and depth of the Gibson ... thought that was really for plectrum players ... and the Sires sounded great too !
Really good concept ! Love It ! The P-bass, thunderbird and hoffner were my thing

Wonderful concept, loved it! The Ibanez SR surprised me - I liked its tone the most, except maybe the Warwick.
Maybe do one with fretless basses too?
Fantastic video! Thanks for posting. 👍👍👍
Listened to this blind, and loved the Ibanez and the Dingwall. Also thought the Dingwall was a Stingray without seeing it. 🤷
Fender P, Ibanez and Sire 5 strings were my favorites
that Dingwall sounded amazing
I have wanted a Sire D5 since I first saw one. When I finally had a chance to play, I found it beautifully constructed but it produced only one tone. A lovely old school thump. The opposite of what I heard here today. I guess I need to give it a second chance!
Great idea. I can really hear the difference between the instruments.
Excellent concept!
The D5 and the Newport were awesome. I actually liked the Warwick the least, and I'm a bit of a Warwick fanboy.
I was surprised by the range of differences. I liked the Ibanez, the Sire V5R, The Fender P-bass and the Dingwall.
Would love to see another one with a little more on the woods of each as well. Or of one bass in multiple woods
Loved this type of play through.
Really enjoyed this!
the newport sounds nice and punchy, but am I the only one that thought that both fenders sounded like a decent speaker inside an aluminum can? Great format, really helpful. More of this! I didn't want to like the Gibson, but I really did. However the Fender J wins for my tastes. Most impressive for the money though, Sire ftw
I like this format please do more. How about doing a slap comparison including Spector and others?
Cool idea. Very riff dependent. That one sort of hit the P-bass. Would love to see some horses for courses follow ups.
The dingwall blew me away
I think I'm biased because I have Fender basses, so the Fender P and J basses sounded the best to me. The Gibson Firebird sounded really good too, but I could never get used to that guitar design -- it just looks too weird to me. Good demo!

I loved Sire D5 on the low end, the growl hit me but the high end is more twangy. Maybe I might add that to my list😅
Great concept and a variety of pickups ! Nice format that can be extend to "10 basses 1 Jazz riff" or "1 Rock riff" to orient customers.
The P-bass was so obviously a Precision. Loved it. Dingwall had a lovely growl as well. Hofner and the Sires sounded pretty farty, was surprised by that, honestly.
Very much enjoyed the format, would love to see it expanded more!
