The fans in the accident was on their way to the KISSshow that night in Detroit. They never made it due to the accident on their way there. So this is a "tribute" to them and every KISS fan out there. 😎🤘

The accident didn't actually happen in Detroit, but outside Charlotte, NC. It melds the story of the tragic accident with a tribute to Detroit, who KISS has maintained supported the band more than any other city in their formative years. Thus dubbing them a "rock city."

KISS wanted to be the band they never saw.Lots of pyro, fake blood, smoking guitars. The NY bands in the early 70's wore women's make up,satin, lace. KISS wanted their make up to reflect their personalities.Gene Simmons "The Demon" (bass co vocals) loved comic books & horror Paul Stanley"The Star child" wanted to be a rock star from an early age.Ace Frehley "The Spaceman" (lead guitar) loved science fiction,Peter Criss "The Catman"(drums) thought he had 9 lives like a cat, growing up in a rough section of Brooklyn.70's songs "Shout it out loud" "Strutter" "Beth" "Nothing to lose" The 80's they took off the make up 80's songs "Lick it up ,Heavens of fire,Crazy Crazy nights"

LOL. I was in my late teens during the early 80's, and I had a girlfriend... I loved rock 'n' roll, she hated it. she was into country and western. one evening we were out on a date and I was driving, I was taking her back home, and "Lick It Up" came out on the radio. I started lip-syncing to it, but my girlfriend wanted me to stop. I didn't. she put her hand over my mouth, but right when she did that the chorus came out. I licked her hand! she couldn't get mad at me because we were too busy laughing!

right on, bro. all the band members created their own characters, makeup & costumes. in the 70s, Marvel printed a couple of comic books based on the band. they posed for publicity photos having blood drawn to mix in with the red ink for the comics.

......when they first came out, Kiss did not portray themselves after any particular comic book characters. Their look was inspired by comic books and later on after they were famous there was a Marvel comic book series that starred them. I saw them in 1975 on their first tour. KISS were the original "shock rockers" after Alice Cooper. he was more horror, while KISS was pyrotechnic, although they *did* have a demos (Gene Simmons) and blood.....also Gene Simmons. Their make-up was based on the Japanese kabuki make-up and yes, comic books. The biggest thing about them though, was the fact that in the 70s, we didn't know what they looked like! That might seem silly today, but you NEVER saw them without the make-up! And that was super cool for kids growing up then. The whole mystery behind them. What were they? Was Gene really a demon?! Did he *really* sew a cow's tongue on his own??!! 😂 Was their comic book written in their own blood!!!??? Yup, those were the rumors going around back then! And yes, they *did* come out with a disco album which offended a lot of their fans. Interestingly enough, that was my first introduction to KISS as a kid. "New York Groove" was the very first KISS song I heard on the radio, and I liked it. I didn't know it was KISS. When I found out, I thought, "They don't LOOK like they would be playing disco." I then saw their Japan concert which was televised. They never played that song or any disco songs. I was disappointed! 😄

Finally onto KISS. Great job as always from you two. First off I am a Maiden super fan. Including part of the KISS army. I have been since late 70s. When I was around 8. HBO was introduced. The opening for it was KISS alive 2. My dad hated them. Devil worshippers he said. To the adults Kiss stud for Kings in saintens survives. So me and my older brother waited till they went to bed and watched the concert. I was hooked for life. Now in my 50s I've seen Kiss 12 time and Maiden 19 time's. Met Gene Simmons of Kiss and Steve Harris of Iron Maiden and yes They had a big influence on Maiden. Kiss asked Iron Maiden to open for them on Maidens first album. On their European leg of the tour. Gene told Steve to be the headliner because he knew the were onto bigger things. In witch he was right. Steve Harris watching them every night getting ideas on everything thing Kiss did. Especially the stage show. Aces that Kiss was responsible for their discovery included Rush, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Extreme, Bob Segar, ACDC, Van Halen Motley Crue, And as Paul Stanley said "the list goes on and on ". Kiss is very important to the Rock and Metal history. Just think if Gene Simmons wouldn't have put these bands on their tours and onto labels with his managers and record companies.

I Was Mad For Loving You is still well worth watching/listening too. Not popular with the hard core fans but one of their best ever selling tracks. Biggest Hits were Rock No Roll All Night and Shout It Out Loud. Awesome ballads sung by Drummer Peter Criss are well worth the listen - Beth and Hard Luck Woman. These are all great tracks and I am sure that your viewers will recommend other tracks that have the trademark heavy sound - and all are worth listening to but gotta start somewhere :-)

Yes, Yes, YES! KISS Army member here, so glad you reacted to my 2nd all-time fave rock band! This is the classic KISS line-up: Paul Stanley - lead vocals, rhythm guitar; Gene Simmons - bass; Ace Frehley - lead guitar; Peter Criss - drums. They're touring right now, Paul & Gene still, with Tommy Thayer - lead guitar, Eric Singer - drums. "I Was Made for Lovin' You" has a great music video, & does have a slight disco sound. Paul was told that he couldn't write disco music, & wrote the song in less than an hr. "Detroit" IS their signature hard glam rock style, though their ballad, "Beth", is a beautiful & sad love song, written about Peter's wife. They put on a PHENOMENAL live show, & the live videos are a real eye-opener. Thanks for your reaction.

This is their "customary" sound and where they began to get a little heavier. Give a listen to their 2nd and 3rd album This album is from 76 and this is one of their longest songs. Paul Stanley, the lead singer, wrote this after he learned of a KISS fan who died, in a car accident, on his way to a KISS concert in Charlotte North Carolina. I remember you did a few groups with orchestral arrangements. Check out this arrangement of this song, from 2003, with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The voice at the beginning, reading the news story, is Gene Simmons.

the Title of this video says "THEY WERE BASED ON COMIC BOOK CHARACTERS" no they weren't. But Comic Book Characters were based on them, because the KISS comics came AFTER Kiss was formed.

I think you should check out I Was Made For Loving You. It gets unfairly labeled as a disco song, but there is no other disco song that sounds like it.

Detroit....the motor city.....and deep ties to rock and roll history.....now of course it is an urban hellscape....but it had its time.

Kiss make-up wasn't based on comic book characters. Each band member invented their own characters---so said Paul Stanley in his book "Face the music-A life Exposed".

First "deep lose"... They are not based on comic characters...Gene,Paul,Ace and Peter are New Yorkers who created each individual character representing themselves. Paul " the Star child" Gene" the Demon" Ace" the Spider" Peter" the Catman"... Detroit is where Kiss did the album that broke the band big"KISS Alive" Gene's name is actually Chaim Weitz.. He changed it to Gene Klein when he left Israel... Then Gene Simmons his adopted rock name..The lead vocalist is Paul Stanley..Ace Frehley' lead guitar, Peter Criss... Drums... If you want to know any real Kiss facts, let me know

Have no idea who told you that, but they lied to you. They were NOT "based on comic book characters"..though they did become Marvel Comic superheroes later when Stan Lee published the 1st "Marvel Comics Super Special presents KISS" in 1977 and their superhero status was further cemented by their TV movie "KISS meets the Phantom of the Park" (aired on NBC 10/28/78) and the 2nd Marvel Comic (summer '78).
But, originally, the makeup was just an extension of their personalities; Gene Simmons (bass) with his love of vintage horror movies became "the demon", Paul Stanley (rhythm guitar) became the "starchild" the ultimate showman, lead guitarist Ace Frehley's love of outer space led him to become the "spaceman" a/k/a "space Ace" and Peter Criss (drums) the jungle cat with street cat swagger, became the original "cat man". The now iconic 4 faces, recognized globally, started out as an organic idea, spurred on by each other and some leftover black, white, red, and silver Kabuki makeup left in the dressing room of a venue they rented for a show.

If you really don’t know too much about KISS, You can’t just listen to a track like that. You have to see them. Gotta check out “Rock n Roll All Night”…that’s their “anthem”. Also, “Shout it out Loud”. One song was more mainstream & very popular “I Was Made For Loving You”. And, believe it or not, one of the nicest songs, yes by KISS, with violins too 😊 “Beth” a beautiful love song sung by the drummer Peter Criss. Very nice.

Yep Detroit Rock City is their basic 70's sound, yes they did the pop/disco album and then moved on to the 80's where their sound changed again according to the rock sound of the 80's. My favorite is the 70's KISS. KISS is my favorite band in general though.

Yes there is an interesting video of this song and it is most likely overdubbed. But they do put on a show. It is from a Halloween special. The witches say they keep them in a chamber as I recall? (Chamber music joke) on UA-cam ---> KISS Detroit Rock City Paul Lynde Halloween Special 1976 ...

It's so hard to explain to younger people how big of a deal KISS, as well as other bands were in the history of music AND Pop culture.
We obviously didn't have a 24 hour news or entertainment cycle. We had to get our fix about our Rock bands wherever and whenever we could.
TV shows like "The Midnight Special" or magazines like, "Hit Parader" "Circus" "Metal Edge" or local mags too.
Without Social media the mystique and lore grew in our imaginations. I remember hearing about and then seeing, when Ozzy shaved his head.
For some reason that was more "shocking" to me than the biting off the bat head! In my mind only "crazy people" would shave their head! Now it's just excepted.
To see these bands through today's "lenses" they may seem tame or "played out." But most bands left their mark on the history of music. Some played a bigger role with thier influence.
As for the make-up. They were never seen without it.
They would never be able to keep the mystique up today.
In today's "gotcha" world someone would expose them. The thing is I'm pretty sure the paparazzi were "in on it" back then.
They knew it would sell more magazines to get a picture of Paul pulling up a shirt collar or Gene hiding behind a menu. Sure if they did expose them it would sell a lot of copies but what about next month? They knew not to kill the "golden goose."
I'm so glag i was born in '68. The 70's & 80's music was my youth and my life!

They didn't base their personas on comic book characters per se, though there were comic books made later based on their personas. They initially based them on personal passions or fascinations. Paul-Starchild/Rock god, Gene-Demon, Ace-Space alien, Peter- Catman

if you want to know more about Gene Simmons check out Gene Simmons Family Jewels tv show that used to be on it is about him and his family and KISS history .........In 2010, he claimed the tally stood at 5,000 and that he has a Polaroid picture of each liaison, including the hotel key where it took place.[34] Simmons has always been open about his disdain for drug and alcohol use, and has proudly claimed many times over "I've never been high or drunk in my life".

If you start on a KISS dive,, you need to watch their live stuff......and be sure to start with the old stuff from the 70's.....this is them at the top of their game, young and hungry, and not yet in the grips of addictions.......The later KISS stuff from the 80's, 90's is fine, but its the early KISS that we all fell in love with growing up. The KISS that has been touring for the last several years is just a money grab while they can still walk, and fans are still willing to pay.

Yes, I Was Made For Lovin' You is disco, but it was written win a bet that a disco song was easy to write (I think Paul Stanley wrote in in just one weekend). It was on the 79 album Dynasty and while I havent listened to the album in a long time, I think it was the only disco track. Their typical sound is hard rock, with a few ballads thrown in. Lead vocals on this one is Paul Stanley(rhythm guitar) who does most of the lead singing, but Gene Simmons (bass) also does lead on a large number of their songs. Peter Criss (drums) and Ace Frehley (lead guitar) also sing lead on a few songs.
