Excellent video! It’s crazy how many people still don’t submit cards or are leery to do so. It is definitely a game changer as you say, and I think the ups absolutely outweigh the downs. I’ve personally found that it’s not an exact science as well, and I feel I actually take more risks now than I did at the beginning

I would agree with you on more risks. We know the market and the chance at a 10 is either worth it, or a 9 will break even is what we are thinking.

Great video. Summary: modern you want a ten. First gate is centering on front, look for perfection. On the back, close to perfection. If it passes that gate, check corners and edges for non sharpness. Check surface from a few angles for print lines. If you find some, try to wipe them off. If not don’t submit. Pass all gates, submit.

Thank you for making this. I just got back into cards. Love football cards. Really good info for me to go on. Good luck with your grading business.

I absolutely love TAG. I like the idea and their slabs are beautiful. However I only recommend them for PC as they are a new company and as a result, they have not yet earned public confidence. I do think in the long run they will get there, (10 years) but until then, selling TAG graded slabs will only get you about half of the PSA values. Don’t use them if you want to resell in the near term.

What’s the submission cost per card?

I would have used TAG by now, but last i checked, the cards can’t be lenticular, have to be newer than 2000, can’t be die cut, can’t have factory rounded corners, etc. I am looking forward to when they loosen their protocol. I love the idea of eliminating human error.

@@TheSportsCardTeachers anywhere between $12to $30 a card depending on how detailed of grading report you want. $12 is authentication only, $15 gets you a grade. $30 gets you the actual score based on a 1000 point system. They also provide a detailed report supporting the grade received. I have a Corey Seager Rookie that received a 989 grade, which I believe is tied for the highest grade ever awarded.

@@broncosbreaks actually they now will grade cards dating back to 1989, but yes there are some limitations as to the types of cards they’ll accept. Obviously they have a lot of work to do regarding service expansion.

@@markmarotta3577 that’s good to know. Thanks! They mentioned they were going to expand as they grew, so I’m much more likely to consider them now

Great video! Not knowing the increase from raw to the grade you expect it to get (#9) is such an important mistake that people make…I’m glad you included it. I’ve really enjoyed your videos and found them interesting and well thought out. Keep them coming!!!

What’s your “why” for PSA grading? I know the simple factor of which one sells for more is the biggest determine factor, but put plainly, I can’t see how PSA puts out a better product than BGS. For some reason, BGS doesn’t get the love.
BGS doesn’t give out 10’s as easily as PSA, and I find that to be a good thing. I don’t want my card to be mislabeled. I’m not saying PSA mislabeled anything, but I am saying I feel BGS does a better job.
BGS uses sub grades. You can always tell exactly what caused your card to get what it did.
I also feel the slabs are more robust, and not cheap feeling. PSA slabs feel flimsy to me. The label looks like a plain sticker you or I could make. BGS clearly uses more quality there too.
I don’t get it. PSA cards sell for more. That’s a fact. People like it more. That’s a fact. No one has a good reason why. Im hoping you can shed some light on it.

There’s definitely an argument here but IMO it’s all about the market share, quality perception (that it’s amazing) and the pop counts. If 85%+ grades go through PSA that says a lot. I personally like the look of PSA slabs and have never used anyone else

I think you make some good points. A couple things to keep in mind: The ROI for a psa 10 is Astronomically higher then BGS. In fact psa has closed the gap on the pristine BGS grade.
Also, people don’t want to see a 9.5 Gem Mint. BGS gets away with claiming they don’t give out as many 10s by having a 9.5 Gem Mint grade. PSA just calls all those “gems” 10s.
