As a 5 year old kid in 1964, I remember the first time I saw these in CB&Q red pulling freights on their way from St. Louis to KC through our little town. Very impressive rendition from Lionel... thanks, Bill! T4
Good morning, T4! I'm envious in that I never did see the real locomotives plying the rails. The closest I ever got was watching MOPAC's GP18's. Lionel's model really is nice and just the right size for the OM&S. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, T4! Bill
Just now caught this video Bill - sorry I’m a bit late. This is really great!! More so in that railroads west of Pennsylvania just don’t get enough coverage by UA-camrs and it’s terrific to see a mid-western railroad get a little love!!
Good evening, Ed, thank you very much! I do really like many of the eastern roads, but in that I live in the Midwest I decided when building the OM&S to focus on the midwestern railroad. Hence my interest in the CB&Q. I am really pleased you enjoyed the video and appreciate your comment! Bill
Thanks for sharing such beautiful video God bless
Hi, tanlochello8023, thank you for the compliment! I enjoyed making and sharing the video. Bill
They are two beautiful GP20’s Bill! Love the paint scheme!😊
Hi, Frank, I really like these locomotives. I have other GP locomotives, but it is nice to be able to add a whole different class of locomotive to the railroad's roster. Happy Thanksgiving! Bill
Hey, that’s the model I gifted to Kole on bunkers trains channel during the holidays! That is a sweet engine!
Well, orange, that is a nice gift. It is a sweet engine! Happy Thanksgiving! Bill
I just received the new Lionel doodlebug. What a great piece. I really like it.
Hi, Peter! I have heard other say that they were impressed by the doodlebug too. Very nice! Hope you have a great Thanksgiving. Bill
Very nice. I like red locomotives. I have an older Burlington model from 1981 with similar colors. It’s a SD-28 numbered 8151. Your locomotive looks very nice running around your layout. Seems like there’s a trend of big unusual or big fantasy locomotives on you tube lately. I like locomotives more like the GP-20 or GP-30. Something more everyday. I enjoyed the video.
Good morning, Ken, thank you! I have not really gotten into the "fantasy schemes," but I must say some of them are pretty attractive. I can understand why people are drawn to them. Happy Thanksgiving, Ken! Bill
The first Norfolk Southern used gp20’s in black tops and gray sides that ran through my home town back in the 60’s . Thanks mr bill b .for showing us your new set of engines! Enjoyed watching buddy!
Hi Scott, thank you! Man, I would have enjoyed seeing those back in the day. Scott, you are most welcome, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on the video. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Bill
Bill, congratulations on your new purchase and have a great thanksgiving!
Good morning, Peter, and thank you! Being a fan of the CB&Q, and not having any GP20's on the OM&S roster I figured they would be a good addition. I pre-ordered them from Mr. Muffin's Trains. I hope you have a great thanksgiving as well! Bill
Very nice locomotives Bill, love that paint scheme! - Ryan
Good morning, Gary and Ryan! Thank you for stopping by and watching the video. I am really happy that Lionel added the GP20 to their Legacy lineup. The GP20 is a distinctive locomotive and as a fan of the CB&Q I am pleased to be able to add it to the OM&S's roster. Hope you guys have a Happy Thanksgiving! Bill
Bill, thanks for sharing this with us. Those are beautiful locomotives and look perfectly at home on your layout.
Good morning/afternoon, Jason, and thank you! I enjoyed making the video. I am not so sure how my little GP20's stack up to all those Norfolk Southern Heritage units, lol, but they are great locomotives and fit right on the OM&S. Love the progress you are making on your layout. It is really impressive! I hope you guys have wonderful Thanksgiving! Bill
Great share friend!
Thank you, mccoy79productions66, I am glad you liked it. The GP20's are very nice. Good runners! Bill B.
Great video Bill!
Hi, NPVSRR, good morning and thank you! Have a Happy Thanks giving! Bill
I just ordered the GP20 in the Santa Fe 1171
Oh, cool, Keith, I hope you really enjoy it. They are great running locomotives! I really like those Santa Fe models as well. That Kansas City Terminal model caught my attention as well, but is a little beyond my railroad’s era. I hope you will let me know what you think of your Santa Fe GP20 after it arrives. Bill
Great video Bill, the engineers on the OM&S will enjoy putting the new units through their paces, good to see you back up and publishing again, happy thanksgiving to you and your family. Tim
Good evening, Tim! I hope all is well on your side of the pond. Yes, the OM&S road crews, were all excited about the new additions to the locomotive roster. The GP20's, with their dynamic brakes are really well suited for the terrain and trackage found on the OM&S. Oh, Tim, I never left publishing videos, I just like to pace myself, lol. Thank you again and take care. Bill
@@ozarkmidlandsouthernrailway Bill, I just bought a 3 unit Wabash GP7 lash up as, like you, I love to run GPs in multiple, also the Wabash is one of my favourite roads, everything same as ever over here, second grandchild on the way so my wife is in full nana mode. Tim
@@momatmach1 Oh, Wabash GP7’s, sure can’t go wrong there! I hope you really enjoy them. When you mentioned the second grandchild and your wife being in “full nana mode” I couldn’t help but laugh. I knew exactly what you meant. Congratulations! Bill
Great video Bill! I've never been a fan of GP20's but those are nice. Thanks for sharing your new engines with us! Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi, Ricky, good morning and thank you! I never had the opportunity to see a real GP20 but did watch MOPAC's GP18's in real life. As you know the GP18's much like the 7's/9's were regular work horses on the MOPAC. The 18's were kind of distinctive with their sloped low front hood. The GP20 in real life did not sell well in part I read because fuel at the time was relatively cheap and many of the railroads had ample fleets of motive power. Also, I read that because the turbocharger was a relatively new development, there was some concern on the part of the railroads that the turbocharger would add to the cost of maintaining the GP20. Not sure how that last issue played out. Take care and have a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Bill
Beautiful engines Bill! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Hi, Darin, good morning and thank you! The little GP20's really are sharp looking locomotives and well suited to the OM&S. I hope you and yours have a Happy Thanksgiving as well! Bill
A beautiful engine. Thank you for sharing the video.
Hi, George, thank you for watching the video and for your comment. Lionel's GP20 really is a nice locomotive and I really enjoy running them. I will say that they do not have all of the detail that many have come to expect on a Legacy diesel like see through screens and added on parts, but I enjoy them a lot and the pair I have are excellent operating locomotives. Thank you again! Bill
Great video - thank you sir. I just don’t understand Lionel putting this in their Legacy line. The tooling is not detailed enough when next to (eg) the gp30 or latest SD40. I think Lionel need a new line in between Lionchief and legacy if they want to keep releasing old stuff like this.
Hi, amadigidigaula771, thank you! I understand what you are saying and yes, it certainly would have been nice if Lionel had retooled the former MTH model such that hand applied details and see thru screens could have been added, but I suspect it was determined that such work would have taken the project beyond the price point they felt was acceptable. That is just my thinking. With that said, I was happy to get a new diesel scale model from Lionel with Legacy control. I do appreciate your comment! Bill
Those engines look sharp! Fit right in!
Hey, Sam, thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment! Those little GP20's really are perfect for a railroad like the OM&S. They even come with dynamic brakes, lol! Hope your Thanksgiving is a good one, Sam. Bill
Very pretty Burlington engine. I saw those running thru st joseph mo while I was growing up.
Wow, Jim, I wish I had had that opportunity! Very neat indeed! Have a good night! Bill
Very nice!!
Hey, Dave, thank you! They are not, L&N, lol, but they certainly are nice locomotives! Bill
Great looking pair of locomotives and I really enjoyed your close up look at the details, awesome additions to the OM&S roster. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you, Craig and good morning! I am glad you liked the close look at the locomotive's details. It really is a nice model and a good locomotive for operators with tight curves like those on the OM&S. I hope your Thanksgiving is a good one as well! Bill
Very nice
Thank you, Guytrains! Lionel did a great job on the GP20. Bill
Happy Thanksgiving to you. I really like your new engines. They are running great. I thought it was interesting that they have a sloped hood and one large windshield. Chris
Hi Chris, thank you! Lionel's new GP20's are pretty sharp and they are great running engines. In the making of this video, I was kind of counting on their being great runners, lol. Yes, the sloped short hood, single pane windshield along with the large fan housings and rectangular exhaust stack give the GP20 a distinctive look. Thanks again, and Happy Thanksgiving! Bill
Awesome CB&Q GP20s Bill. Happy Thanksgiving too.
Hey, Hunter, thank you! Much appreciated! Bill
Fun unboxing bill...happy thanksgivingvto your family.
Hi, Jim, thank you, I had a fun time making it! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! Bill
Excellent review Bill.! Beautiful Locomotives.! Happy Thanksgiving.!
Hi, Mark, good afternoon and thank you! The GP20's are sharp and excellent runners. Take care and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving! Bill
Nice review Bill! GP20's are my all time favorite diesel. Those models look great on your layout. Did you move a pair of crossing gates?
Hi, Dave, good morning and thank you! I'm really pleased that Lionel added the GP20's to their Legacy lineup. They are very nice locomotives. No, I didn't move a crossing gate, but I did add a set this past summer. You are very observant! Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Bill
I recieved my GP20, love it. How do you switch between the different horns?
Good morning, Keith, that is good news! Which road name did you purchase? To be able to select from the different horns and bells, press the AUX1 button on your Legacy remote. Then pull the Warning Sound Controller (the slider on the right side of the remote) down to change the horn pitch. Keep hitting the AUX1 and then pulling down on the slider until you settle on what you believe is the right horn sound for you/your locomotive. It will remember the last horn you tried. To select from the bell tones, press the AUX1 button, but now push the same slider up. Keep repeating until you have found the best bell tone. With that done you are ready to roll. Bill
Impressive details on those gp20s Bill! Congratulations! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Hey, Joey, thank you! Yes, while the model may not have quite as much detailing as you would typically see on a Legacy diesel model, they are pretty sharp. I surely like them! They are great runners and are really well suited to a railroad with tight curves like those found on the OM&S. Joey, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving too! Bill
I recently picked up the Kyle GP-20 Legacy model. Have to say while it's a neat model as a guy who buys MTH I'm disappointed that Lionel purchased their tooling. I have the MTH Santa Fe GP-20 and while it's a little older it was something like $300. When Lionel took it over the price of the item went up considerably. My Kyle was $570. Point l am getting at is l dont think it's good for the hobby when Lionel buys out the tooling from MTH. I'd rather see Lionel do their own product development. I'm grateful for the MTH GP-20s, SW-1 and 2900 Santa Fe class engine l purchased when it was MTH.
Good morning, MUEagle2002, thank you for watching my video and for your comment. I am not sure how to really respond to your primary point that you do not think it good for the hobby when Lionel buys out the tooling from MTH. It is difficult to know just what the impact of certain actions on the part of manufacturers will have on the hobby long term. In the short term I figure that MTH made some of their tooling available to other manufactures as that is what MTH felt it needed to do to remain viable in the marketplace. Lionel likely took advantage of that opportunity to add models to its catalog and avoid the expense of having to create entirely new tooling which seems at least at first glance as a wise business move. I have pretty much always been a Lionel man until about two years I believe, when I chose to introduce MTH's DCS system into my railroad. I am very glad I did as I can now enjoy operating both Lionel's Legacy as well as MTH's DCS products both of which I am thoroughly enjoying. The rising cost of our trains is a whole issue in of itself. Lionel's products are by in large more expensive than those offered by MTH, and I wish that were not the case. What I am pretty certain of is that I am not the one to be able to explain the reasoning for the disparity in the costs. It does appear to me though that at least for the foreseeable future our hobby is alive and well. Thank you again! Bill B.
How do you make the second locomotive go in reverse?
Hi Keith, I mated up the two Legacy GP20 by following the lash-up procedure outlined in the operator's manual. The first locomotive added to the lash-up will run in the forward direction. The second locomotive that I added to the lash-up is facing in reverse but will travel in the same direction as the first locomotive once the lash-up has been created using your legacy remote. One can lash-up any two legacy locomotives together as long as they run at approximately the same speed. If you watched the recent video, titled "1 Train, 5 Engines, 58 Cars, & 1 Caboose Fun O Gauge Train Running!" I did the same thing using five GP30's in a single long train following the same procedure. If you try to create a lash-up and have any difficulties, let know and I will try to help. Bill
The catalog makes it look as if the GP20's have fixed pilots. Your video shows that they do not. I find that to be disappointing. Why not represent them properly in the catalog?
Well, honestly, I never noticed that in the catalog. I'm sorry you are disappointed about the GP20's not having fixed pilots. I'm sure the pilots were made to rotate so that they could navigate tighter curves like those seen on the OM&S. I've found the GP20's to be great locomotives. Bill
@@ozarkmidlandsouthernrailway No worries Bill. Your video was super helpful. And btw, I ordered one despite the pilots...LOL!
@@WeMustRebell I think you will really like it. What road name?
@@ozarkmidlandsouthernrailway I went with the Burlington and Quincy #907. I may add the #915 also after Christmas.😚
Very nice! I will say the two GP20 run very well together. Bill @@WeMustRebell
Shoeee.., it`s all new? Don`t adjust the camera, I wanted to see what you had for breakfast.
Hi, plunkervillerr1529! Well, the GP20 tooling was introduced by MTH, and after Lionel acquired the tooling, they have now brought it out as a Legacy model which as you could tell in the video, I am pretty excited about. They are great little locomotives. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! Bill
