Quick but very useful tip: if you press and keep pressed down the MISC PARAMS button, you can read on the screen the value of any knob you turn without changing the value. Thx for the excellent tutorial...!
Great lesson, there’s a good amount of sound design knowledge here for free. Awesome patch and I’m going to be checking out your patches to buy tomorrow.
Thanks for this tutorial. One of the best explanations for building a pad sound I've ever come across. The delay technique is killer. I no longer miss my Juno 106 chrous.
That's better than some I get, last week someone watched a video and the only comment was "You have Banana Thumbs"...err...The best was, "I didn't know Johnny Vegas played Synths"...The internet can be cruel... :)
@@GEOSynths I was going to say David Brent but thought that might be taken in the wrong way haha. Ricky Gervais is a jokey compliment. Great Video, I just got the Rev 2 and this has explained all the basics in one go. I look forward to seeing more. Thanks Mate
Thanks, glad you like them. Yes, I decided with Volume 2 to do 2 Layer Patches for pretty much all of them, as that way you can use the FX of both Layers. The odd 16 Voice Monster and Splits, but mainly Stacked Patches. Took a lot longer to make, but I wanted to hear how they'd sound :)
there is actually a shortcut to assign the pressure (aftertouch) to the mod source. just hold down mod source and press any key (keyboard) for 2 times. And thanks a lot for the video, i learned a ton of new tricks ;)
I bought a Rev2 a year ago,the next day I returned it for a System8. Because I couldn’t get any warmth out of it. It’s all buzzy and fizzy. Then 3 months later a prophet 08 module comes onto the used market and I was looking for some analog brass that only a prophet could delivered. So I picked it up and when I set evenings playing with it, I realized that it’s very finicky with amounts but when you find that sweet spot, it comes to live. Yes it’ll always by fizzy because of the CEM. But it makes it terrific for mixing! It’s now a stable, always in the lower end of my songs. In this song I even made it the lead: m.ua-cam.com/video/ME6UkPlB3us/v-deo.html and that’s only a mildly tweaked factory patch. But that buzz lifted it up, where before it was a bit too tame sounding.
How about using gate sequencer to mod the noise and have interesting pattern of noise while pad evolves? Gate sequencer is probably one of the most powerful features of REV 2. This insane mod matrix allows you to modulate 4 tracks (or 2 with slew) of data in different tempo. Hows that for evolving and moving pad - try that out. Aux envelope as well, on LFO4 intensity. I mean ,you dont have to use all mod slots just because they are there - this is high end synth, sounds great with few tweaks already - but it is good, if you want to demonstrate its full power , to modulate from all sources.
Hi, I dig this tutorial so much. One thing - is it possible to equal the levels of talking and synth playing? It's a bit hard to follow this on commercial headphones (I'm in the cafe shop) when sometimes levels are huge (synth) vs really low (speech)
Hi, Ok I got my rev2 and am going along with your tutorial, and when it comes to the filter, it feels like mine just behaves so much differently. the decay stage comes so much later than yours does. Is it something ive done? Some setting?
Hey! Great video. Just got one of these and I'm having a blast with it. Was wondering what that occasional click sound is coming from? I notice it at 32:25. Is that coming from the synth?
Hi Chris, I haven't really thought about it, in fact you've probably noticed that I haven't done patches for monsynths as I'm not sure people would buy them, but as I like large Pads and Strings, I've stuck with polysynths...I did make about 30/40 patches with the MB so far, but that was months and months ago and I haven't really used it since...lol
It would be good to see a decent demo of it with someone that knows what they're doing. I think people would definitely buy them, I doubt anyone is doing it.
haha...No, spent enough...I'm filming for Sound On Sound at Synthfest UK next weekend, so getting my kit together and I'm concentrating on 1 Synth at a time for Tutorials. At the same time as doing the REV 2 Tutorials for my Patreon site (Patrons see more videos and screenshots of the settings) i'm also working on Vol 2 for the REV 2...Killing 2 Birds so to speak.
Best tutorial I've found as a complete beginner, didnt leave out any steps and explained what everything does thanks!
Thank you soooo much! Such a great way to learn by watching a pro create magic!🙏
Had my Rev2 for almost a year and never knew about that shortcut to initialise a patch!
wow.... SAW as the brick and TRIANGLE AS CEMENT.....Awesome
Learned a lot from this, thanks!
Amazing helpful! Great Tutorial! Thanks! 🙏😃
Nice! Super thorough
Just bought a rev2, and this video was soooooo helpful!
Gonna be buying some stuff from ya today homie just to show the appreciation for what youre doing for us noobs :D!!!
Great stuff! I‘ve made a lot of nice patches on my Rev2, but you‘re a real master.

Thanks, glad you like the videos and sounds :)
been saving up for one of these and finally get to buy one next month! Stoked to make some pads
Hi man! Can you please make some more of these tutorials? EXTREMELY helpful. Just bought my Rev-2 and this was my first patch!
What were your reasons for choosing the rev2? :) I can't decide between the Korg Prologue 16 and the Rev2-8
Wonderful sound, fantastic delivery. Thank you, thank you.

i just bought the bundled rev2 patches. I gotta say quite a few gems in there. Especially volume 2. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Well, already have a REV II, but now I have a subscription to this awesome channel.
Thanks Marlon, much appreciated!
Fantastic sound design tutorial. Very helpful with the controls of this synth as well. Thanks!
Very nice tutorial! Just recreated it on my prophet xl and added some noise and distortion, sounds amazing!
Great...I picked up a Prophet X a week or so ago, will be making Patches for it at some point.
GEOSynths you will love it!! My first prophet and it is amazing! Please do the patches ASAP! Can’t wait to see what you will come up with!
슨생님.. 증말 친절하시군요..호호 감사합니다
This is perfect f!
Thanks for sharing your skills ,will test this out on my Rev 2 ,and an awesome sound i will get as a reward!
Great educational piece ..thanks
5 days until my Rev2 arrives and I CAN'T wait to do this.
Great vid, thanks! As a rev2 owner I'd love to see more of these, very in depth and interesting.

Thanks, glad you like it. :)
Wow. I was the thinking wtf is this? Then at 27 mins. Ohhhhhhh. Brilliant.
Great stuff on a great synth
Stunning result!
Just exporting Part 2, which is an Arpeggio going over the top of the Pad as a Stack :)
Sounds great! I'm looking forward to hearing that :)

Well, I can't do anything about it now unfortunately, plus I did it quite a while ago, so have a different set up these days.
wow, I didn't know ricky gervais liked synths
He's my Brother.
Instant subscribe.
Down + Up + Hold initializes as well.
this was fun, do you plan on doing more REV 2 videos?
Didn’t know Ricky Gervais knew how to use synths 😂🤣
Rafael Ulloa i’m his cousin...

No, it's the crappy Streaming.
only thing bad about this is difference in volume of the synth and the mic. the mic is super low compared to the keyboard.
I'll send you the files to edit them again ok?
@@GEOSynths I can help.
Are you gonna do a demo of the Matrixbrute Jamie?

Hey Jamie i'm trying to buy someof the rev 2 patches and some system 8 patches. Is the only way I can buy thru paypal or is there another option?
You can use a CC with PayPal, but other than that, it's the only way I have unfortunately.
@@GEOSynths no problem I'll just make a paypal
