It took me a while to believe they were father and son, such a lovely, warm relationship going on there, just having good old fashioned fun, what's not to like?
Amen to that. And to the son. I lost my dad when i was 22 and he was 52. Far too young for a lovely man to go. I miss him every day and I am 76 now. Seeing these two lads caring and sharing all this fun doing what they love to do is brilliant.
I used to own a 68 Grand Prix back in the early 80's. I unfortunately had to sell it as it had a radiator leak and I ended up burning up the motor because my GP didn't have gauges. All it had were idiot lights and by the time my overheat light came on it was too late. I melted 2 pistons and 4 valves on one side of the motor. I always loved the look of the 68. It had the retractable headlights and the "L" shaped tail lights in the rear bumper. Great body lines too! My GP had the 400 small block in it though. Not the big block. I'd love to get another one but those things cost a fortune to find a decent one. Good find sir!!!!!
There's no "big block" or "small block" Pontiac. From 326 to 455, they all share the same external dimensions. Not sure about the '50s 267 or the lame ass 80s 301, though.
I use to have one just like that and it was same color with black interior and it had a 428 with a turbo 400 trans. The car was fast and it was nice. If you ever watch the movie Goodfellas the car Ray was driving with the guy in the trunk was a 1968 Pontiac GP
I love old Pontiacs especially the grand prix's. 69 grand prix is my dream car. That old grand prix is really a sharp looking car and it will be awesome if you can get it to run and drive again.
I love these cars. They just have an awesome look to them. This one could be really cool if you put a little time into it. It seems to be in really good overall condition, considering that it has been sitting for years.
I'm new to this channel,,....but got to say,,,I need too high five u guys, more then five times,,,u guy r awesome ,,,that ride is SUPER COOL,,,,,, from El Paso Texas,,,,,,,
My first car was a 1976 Pontiac Catalina, with a 400 in it. The exhaust was so quiet on that thing, I could start it in the early mornings , on them cold mornings, to let it warm up, and, sometimes, when I came back outside, to leave, I could almost forget it was running, because it was as so stinking quiet and smooth.
Fun video to watch, always enjoy them. You and Dad should swing by whatever airport that seems to be close by. Maybe do a video on this big radials I keep hearing overhead. 😂
She is definitely a runner, possibly a 428? I had a 66 Bonneville, 428, and she was a boat that would float. Would love to see you continue to refine this car and get her on the road. Might be a cool car to restore and give it to your son to drive to high school, he would be the star attraction.
Very cool car, you don’t see many of those pontiacs around anymore and that one actually looks to be in pretty decent shape. Can’t wait to see what’s up with that transmission, may be the reason she was parked.
Looks like it had a Maaco Special paint job. Apart from that looks solid and complete and has all the trim. Being out of manufacture for some time Pontiacs are now more rare and desirable. I agree the steering wheel looks great.
Budget Buildz father and son great job , on getting this classic Pontiac up and running again , can't wait Until you guys get her transmission , Figured out so she can be on the road again, and possible a light Restore because she deserves it 🇺🇸🇺🇸💪💪🙏🙏🙏🙏
That’s a really cool grand prix, definitely worth restoring or fixing up. It’s sad it was abandoned for so long, they’re really cool cruisers and very overlooked.
I ordered a 76 LJ from the dealer back in the day. Most comfortable ride around. Drove it for 17 years till rust got the better of it. Wide track Pontiac
That's an awesome car. Pontiac made some great looking cars. You DEFINITELY need to get rid of those rear wheel skirts and open up the rear wheels. Look forward to future videos.
Nice resurrection on the old girl. I drove Pontiacs for years, my last a '76 Golden Anniversary GP with T-tops. I'd love to find one of these and do the same thing. Really look forward to your videos.
Thanks for taking time to show your son! That is what life is all about! I also admire your channel for being versatile for your choices of vintage cars to getting operating once more!! A++++++
I was telling my sister today why it is your channel that I'm always looking forward to. Your ability to take a long abandoned and buried vehicle from some scrap yard or elsewhere and once you have it in your yard (versus a well appointed shop)* you and your father take what seems to be a ugly duckling to a life it had left long ago in a state of suspended animation just waiting for a rebirthing so to speak. The entire video is well edited and the story told along the way has grown to be better each time over the many uploads. You two are humble but way deserving of much in the way of engine revival accolades most duely deserved. *such as VGG or JYDigs, and more in line with another favorite of mine but so polar opposite from yours is Dal'un at PBG.
Just for a reference. All Pontiac blocks are the same size. From the 326 to 455. You can check the side of the block and some have the engine size cast into them. Otherwise, you can check the code on the front flat one the passenger front of the block below the head. It should be a two letter code like YS or something. The heads have a code on the center ports. They should be Cast 62 for And air car with a 400 Cu engine if its the original one.
Thank you for pointing that out! It’s a bad habit I have, calling them Big Blocks 🤦♂️ This car being a 400, our Bonneville and Starchief being 389s. I just kind of think big block compared to everything else we mess with. Great info, I really appreciate it!
Having looked at the engine a bit better. I am guessing that you have a later Pontiac 400. The Brackets are around 1973 or so. The Carb is a Chevy one. Pontiac Q-jets for Pontiac are center fill not off to the side like Chevy used, The engine might smoke because the valve seals on the valves might have dried out and cracked. Its common on cars that have sat for years. You can replace them if your handy and have a Piece of rope and a valve spring compressor. The center console looked like it was mounted wrong. But. You will have to lift the car with someone in it and have them shift the shifter and watch the Trans mount for the shifter and the bracket. It might be mounted backwards. If your lucky the Grand Prix has Disk brakes (it was and option as were the famous 8 lug aluminum drum wheels) If you need any more information I am a moderator for one of the biggest Pontiac forums. Built many many cars over the years.
@@1gatomon Good eye! Yeap it’s a ‘72 date code. A bit of a bummer over the original ‘68 but someone atleast took the time to install the 4 barrel intake. Nice job getting that Pontiac running. The engine is sounding nice. I had a '68 Catalina with the 400 back in the day & it was a really fine automobile. Keep an eye on the timing chain. They tend to snap around 100k. Mine did. Good luck with her & looking forward to seeing more.
What a cool car. My grandfather worked for GM/Fisher Body for 43 years. That GM period from 1963-70 was a great era for all of GM. Seeing you work on that Grand Prix really “hit home” with me and my son. Is that engine a 389, 400, 421 or a 428? We really enjoy all of your reclamation projects and builds. Wowzers, the boot (trunk) on that is almost as big as most of the cars here in the UK 🇬🇧
Anyone else vote for a restoration on this Grand Prix? Love that grill man!
I like the “hockey stick” taillights as well.
Vote all you want, but HE has to provide the labor and money!
Probably one of the sexiest cars of the sixties. Coke-bottle side view, bucket seats, console, hidden headlights,Pontiac beak, skirts...
This car is from back when Pontiac really did “build excitement.” Do a full resto on this. Great car!
Agree.. the 68's sold so badly, they are now very rare!!! it was never my favorite style, I have a 66, but it is definitely a keeper..
I’ve had several Grand Prix’s. My favorite car. Miss my Pontiacs. Make it run.
Let’s clean it up and get it driving. Definitely worth the save. Can’t wait for the finish of the big camper
The Pontiac Grand Prix has a great looking design imo, and this one doesn't seem to even have a dent anywhere, super clean!
