As Afrikaans is a young language and there are not many Afrikaans speakers, we do not have many dialects yet, but it is always better to learn the "standard" form of a language. I think Annemarie is doing a great job. Afrikaans is one of the world's 3 youngest languages. It started in 1652 and graduately develloped till it became an official language of South Africa in 1925. The first Bibel in Afrikaans appeared in 1933. We do not have Afrikaans dialects in South Africa, but we have several "regional" languages. The most important ones are those in Namaqualand (Northern Cape province); Cape Town (Western Cape province); and the latest one is the language young people in Gauteng (especially Pretoria) speak. And they say:"Ak blaai in maai haaisie baai die sia" (I stay in my little house at the sea). The correct pronunciation is:"Ek bly in my huisie by die see". Dutch = Ik. Standard Afrikaans = Ek. Cape Afrikaans = Ek (something between "ik" and "ek"). Pretoria Afrikaans = Ak (like in "accent").

Brand new to the language. I've studied a bit of dutch and German in the past but have only learned spanish with any real fluency. It is easier for someone to learn a language which is either spoken in their area, OR which has many similarities to the native language that they speak. It is harder for most English speakers, for example, to learn Russian, or Japanese, than to learn Spanish, Italian or Afrikaans. Hope this helps.

That's why I quit using or studying Spanish. Got rather fluent but still the natives would always be prejudiced against outsiders and make fun of us even if we only have a bit of an accent. Good to know dutch speakers are like that so I never waste time learning it.

Definitely, it's more correct. I'm Afrikaans speaking and I haven't used or heard "skuustog" in ages. We say "verskoon my". Also, hardly anybody uses the term "goeie dag" anymore, we just say hi or hallo (pronounced almost the same as the English "hello") "Skuustog, een koffie asseblief" is not correct. We would say "Hallo, kan ek asseblief 'n koffie bestel?" or "Ek wil graag 'n koffie hê, asseblief"

Fortunately we persians can pronunce kh without out any problem 😁
There's no language called African, the title clearly says Afrikaans. It's just a simplified or bustardised version of Dutch spoken in Netherlands a European country

Love the video keep it up
Hi Blom - Kan jy asseblief kyk na jou uitspraak - bv Hoeveel kos hierdie item? Item word in Afrikaans uuitgespreek as (Ietem). Was n goeie praktiese les - jy kan dalk volgende video probeer om n vereenvoudige uitspraak (slang language) aantebied - sinne wat normaalweg gebruik word - soos verskoon my wat is die prys? of net eenvoudig wat kos dit . verder wil ek net se dit was n goeie video - Lekker dag :)
Exactly as I use to learn a new language when traveling. Get a small dictionary, pen and paper and start.
Greeting, please, thank you, and 1 to 10, and you're off after the first day.
Nowbody needs to learn those travel agency "basic" things as asking for the nearest taxi stand. You just stand in the street with a puzzled face and shout TAXI. Someone will help you. Now at least you can say dankie. Great video
Baie dankie ☺
Believe it or not, I’m friends with an Afrikaans speaker I met on Tik Tok and I’m over the moon for her. So my interest in this language has reached its peak.
hi this is the best site to learn a language and I am getting better at this afrikaans language. And shoulden't I say "adios"
I am part scottish and part south african so im learning this to speak with my mom lol
I hear the Afrikaans words in English
Hoy a Duck
Buy a Donkey
That being said, very close to Dutch, thank you.
After watching this I can talk to Charlize Theron.
Thank you for tightening us
❤❤❤❤
My mum is South African and she learnt afrikaans but she doesn't speak it as we live in the UK.She has never spoken it to me but I can read and listen to afrikaans.I think it is because when I was small I traveled to South Africa and watched a Tv program in afrikaans with afrikaans subtitles on.
Wat het jy gekyk ?

This is amazing.
Hierdie kanal het vir my baie gehelp, baie dankie😁 OMG 😀😀😀😀😆did I say that sentence well?😢😆😅
Yess you really did. Take it from a South African😂
Kanal should be kanaal. The 'aa' is lenghtened.
Baie dankie Annemarie this was the best lesson EVER 😊
Als een Nederlander wil een petitie starten om ''dankje'' te veranderen in ''dankie'' en in plaats van ''ei & ij'' gewoon ''y''. Wie is er met mij!
Ek het vriende van Nederland. As hulle stadig praat, dan kan ek hulle verstaan.
Thank you mam, this very helpful
No
Guy's as a South African don't worry too much about Afrikaans most people understand English lol(if thats the reason you're learning, just learn the basics and if you want to go on and learn perfect Afrikaans.)
Afrikaans is only spoken mostly in South Africa, but not in any other countries. I just don't understand why schools have to make students learn and know Afrikaans in grade 12 in order to pass the Matrics exams
@@ninjapirate123 Because its one of the easier langauges, you need to at least know the basics of one of the easiest languages here im pretty sure idk why tho
@@ninjapirate123 Also if you're confused(I might be the confused one) I was talking about if people move to SA for a while/forever they might want to learn Afr because they think we dont understand eng or the majority of us speaks afr only

Thank you so much is help me to get my great results
😭 my whole family speaks Afrikaans apart from me.
I live in the uk so I pretty much have an English accent. Now when I got to South Africa, I feel disconnected from everyone. Hopefully this video will help me🤔😅
Would you like to practice with me?
Disconnected when my friend are speaking Afrikaans 💀
excellent video shown
Brand new to the language. I've studied a bit of dutch and German in the past but have only learned spanish with any real fluency. However my brief exposure to the two former languages definitely helps me draw patterns. Not many resources for this language. But as an Appalachian American I understand the importance of continuing culture and tradition and hope I can help keep this beautiful tongue alive. Best wishes to all on their journey to fluency. Until Valhöll.

@@ninjapirate123 to learn any language- just like learning cursive writing- develops one's intellectual discipline and enhances their ability to learn and use critical thinking skills. It is easier for someone to learn a language which is either spoken in their area, OR which has many similarities to the native language that they speak. It is harder for most English speakers, for example, to learn Russian, or Japanese, than to learn Spanish, Italian or Afrikaans. Hope this helps.
@@Julian-bq9qv You know what, I would rather learn a language spoken by a lot of people worldwide like Spanish than Afrikaans. Only about 3% of the world population speaks Afrikaans, it seems ridiculous to learn that language. And even if I did learn Afrikaans, I know that I'm never going to speak it in my whole life since I'm planning on moving to another country when I get older
@@ninjapirate123 lol same
I'm also Appalachian and love our culture and language. Did you know Dixie even has its own writing system now called Southern Script? It can be used to write Appalachian, Deep South, and other dialects of our beautiful language.
At 8:30, biki is incorrect, it should be spelled bietjie

Oh so jy praat Afrikaans bro? Ek is ook Afrikaans maar ek is half Afrikaans.

I lived in South Africa a while and though I could read Afrikaans and understand it a bit the pronunciation for an English speaker is hard. It’s not quite as hard as high Dutch but not far off. I tried to learn that too but every time I try to speak Dutch in the Netherlands I am laughed at and get a reply in English so stopped trying lol.
That's why I quit using or studying Spanish. Got rather fluent but still the natives would always be prejudiced against outsiders and make fun of us even if we only have a bit of an accent. Good to know dutch speakers are like that so I never waste time learning it.
Some Dutch people can be very rude
Interested and very difficult to beginner 🔰 learn African language vecabloury basic words daily general knowledge interesting pronunciation good to know not remember just watch as students or as employees people learn and people learn fast it's depends . Can you use verskoon my instead of skuustog?
Yes, but its way more work. Don't know why you would
Definitely yes
Yess you can
Definitely, it's more correct. I'm Afrikaans speaking and I haven't used or heard "skuustog" in ages. We say "verskoon my".
Also, hardly anybody uses the term "goeie dag" anymore, we just say hi or hallo (pronounced almost the same as the English "hello")
"Skuustog, een koffie asseblief" is not correct. We would say "Hallo, kan ek asseblief 'n koffie bestel?" or "Ek wil graag 'n koffie hê, asseblief"
