This story touches me personally. I was pulled over by Nebraska State Patrol for running a stop sign and they "conveniently" found a piece of trash on the back floorboard of my car that they say tested positive for meth. The wrote me up on one Felony charge of possession and released me. Then the next day I was pulled over again by an unmarked vehicle from the State Patrol and taken to the station where a narcotics officer from the WING Task Force basically threatened me with 20 years in prison and a healthy fine for the original charge. He told me "help yourself out" and wanted me to go make buys from some of their targets. Thankfully I talked at length with my parents and a lawyer and was able to have the charge dismissed entirely. It was the most frightening experience I've ever had holding a felony summons in my hand and then talking with the narcotics officer. I had a hypothetical gun to my head and for a while felt suicidal. It's predatory how they go after people and create criminals. I could understand flipping a high level dealer or distributor, but for personal use marijuana is absurd. That's why I DO NOT back the blue. They are the enemy!
You are wrong to believe all or most police are the enemy. It is true that there are many bad cops, and some who are ignorant or are themselves convinced (wrongly) by a superior or peer to do those wrongs, yet most police officers desire to protect and defend society from crime.
@@StuartKlimek there is no way that can be considered convincing on any level. I am my own first responder and every interaction I've had with police has been negative. They think the badge and the gun gives them power, but it's only an illusion that is quite quickly stripped away.

Your are right back in the 80s I was a teenager and I would move bundles of drugs for certain people in our neighborhood the cops never knew because I was never was on the police radar.i made good cash doing that but I stopped when I got involved with an older man .he found out and was passed. The cops were looking for gang affiliated people not me.
For the DA to say if the informant is talking he's lying but then use that info in court is outrageous. The justice system is so broken. It's no longer about justice but greed and power trips.

Just imagine all of the innocent people who were prosecuted, sentenced and are still in prison now and some have probably died there. The blame is on the prosecutor, the courts, and the police. They only give a s*** about their resume, that's it.
It's messed up. I got a OVI and refusal of a chemical test in Cincinnati Ohio. I had no keys in the car, it was parked in a parking spot, no drugs no alcohol, nothing like that. Nothing illegal. I had license insurance and all that, that's the only reason I got the OVI. Had I not had a license I wouldn't have got one, It wasn't even my car, and no keys in it. Crazy. I had hypertension level 4 of the heart and was severely dehydrated, I woke up 14 hours later , in the hospital with a OVI. Having no idea what happened . It's crazy that was in 2019. I fought it for 18 months, spent at least $9,000 in lawyer fees alone. I still got convicted even with my medical papers, the body cam footage, proved the cop never spoke to me and he forged my signature. Also, I had a witness. The 911 call , everything. Still got convicted. The judge wouldnt even look at the TV when my lawyer put on the copa body came footage. She asked to put it on, ans he said "if you must" ... I was also denied a jury trial, I was on the docket for it like 5 times, and the judge would keep holding me until last, even tho I had a paid lawyer and it's supposed to go in alphabetical order, like the judge would hold me until the jury was sent home, everytime, at least 5 times and then would say, you can have a bench trial... So the 6th or 7th time I just agreed to it, I was tired of paying my lawyer $475 every day she sat there with me, and I was missing work, plus it was a pain to get to court anyway because I had a suspended license. Judge wouldn't grant me a driving privileges or anything, not even to come to court. Lol like wtf. Wouldn't even give me a plea deal .. it was so messed up and crooked its crazy. Sentence to 180 days and a year license suspension and a year probation.. And mind you, this was my first conviction EVER, I loved in this city for 33 years!!!!. I know people with more than one OVi and never spent more than 2 nights in jail... I couldn't believe it. I moved to a different state. Lol, right across the river, my warrants don't show up here, but I still can't drive. It sucks!!! IL never be able to get a license unless I go back to Ohio and do 6months in jail. Noooo wayy!!! They'll have me in there with predators and bullies and make me a victim again, I think about how much that judge changed my life everyday. I try not to. It's just so crazy !!!!
Yeah well a vast majority of his office including himself got fired. I lived in seal beach during the salon shooting and that was the tipping point that got the public defender wise to what was happening and blew the lid off the whole thing.

Back in 1999 in Florida i was setup. I gave the person 3 joints. They gave me 3 to 5 years. Now it is legal there. WTF i did over 3 year's!!! I was only 18 and was going to study to be a veterinarian. The weed charge put a stop to that , being you can't be a vet with drug charges. That stupid law ruined my life

Students across the country need to be repeatedly informed what is going on. And that they need to ask for an attorney right away. Even if they are threatened, they should become aware that an attorney is most likely their best alternative.

Best bet is to not talk to police at all without your lawyer present. Police know all the little tricks to get people to talk. Be careful what you say, even in a simple traffic stop.

When lawyer came she said ... ugh, It is long time since the last time she has been in that station. I presume people rarely use they rights.

Some advice to all those out there, if you are ever arrested for anything, drugs, assault, or any other thing, as soon as you sit down and the cop asks you anything, say “I want a lawyer”. That’s it. Say nothing else!
The sad thing which causes them to accept the deal out of fear in the first place is that they're threatened with really long prison sentences (40 years for selling weed, are you kidding me?).
Yeah and the truth is that a simple weed charge will most likely be dropped anyway or downgraded to something even lower and no jail time. They are just praying off those weak college students fear because the police know they are uneducated in the street life.
This is far from anything new. I had a friend in college in 1985 who went to Penn State where he got caught with weed. The deal they offered him was turn in four friends or serve nine months. My buddy did the nine months instead of ratting out his friends. Massive respect.
That’s solid but it’s different when looking at 9 years or more, that’s when you really see who folds. If you sign up for something than take responsibility no matter what it is, that’s how I live but most folks don’t even know themselves until in that situation. I’ve did three sentences not snitching. Seen some homies fold and tell before the cuffs were on. “Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time” you are who you hang with is what will remain true to the system.
I knew someone who kept snitching his way out of prison just to start selling drugs again and again. He ended up getting shot in the face. He survived but next time he got arrested he took the jail time.

plausible deniability. As long as he's not directly involved, you must be the one to first prove the existence of the network and tie him to it. He knows this, hence why he gets away with it. You need evidence. But agree that would be another charge on him when he actually is caught. But the mere existence of such a network is enough to get the man the death sentence which is why he's so vietmately denying.
If you stay quiet and ask for a lawyer right away, it’s out of the polices hands. They have to give YOUR counsel all of the reason behind your arrest. And more often then not, your case is dropped. So, never talk to police they are NOT lawyers. Never talk to them. Always ask for a lawyer because it takes your case out of the hands of the police.

Something needs to change. My brother-in-law has been in Cook County for over 12 years waiting and his case still hasn't gone to trial. They keep claiming they're still in discovery. Unconstitutional.
Did he waive his right to a speedy trial? It's usually one of the first things your attorney asks you to do in the first month after being arrested. They recommend it because there are advantages to delaying, like the temperament cooling down or the public defenders ability to work in a small amount of time .

I was born in 1972. The TV shows I grew up with, whether they were news programs or fictionalized shows all referred to _"snitches"_ as people involved in criminal activity who used inside information to cut deals for leniency. Usually, the so-called snitch was either involved in the same crimes as the person(s) they informed on or something slightly less than that. *Today the act of "snitching" has been manipulated by street gangs to keep innocent people, potential witnesses, in check! If you see and/or hear a crime in progress or find out something about a crime after the fact, contacting the police about it is called snitching when it has nothing to do with that!*

A snitch changed my adult life. He snitched on me to my employer…..- I always unintentionally clogged the work restroom toilets bc I only dump 1x/week. He saw me exit the stall and he snitched. Life changes forever.
I had a sibling who was hooked on addictive drugs by his "friends," and those same "friends," once my sibling was addicted, used him to deal drugs to support his habit. He was busted dealing drugs, because he wasnt a professional criminal, and was forced to snitch on his dealers to avoid maximum criminal penalties. It is nothing short of a miracle that he wasn't shot or killed so that the DA could look good with drug busts. Our system is set up to profit the criminal justice system at the expense of victims.
This happened to me but I did not snitch when I was caught with an illegal substance. Come to find out it was an illegal bust so they could not charge me. I've straightened out a year ago after years of rehabs, jails, and overdoses. I have a year clean now

We had a friend disappear for years on spring break. 4 years later we ran into him and he'd been in Cook County jail for selling ecstasy as a white boy from Kentucky. I'll spare you the details of the hell he went through. The day after we saw him he kidnapped a girl. As police surrounded him he killed himself. Crazy what that jail did to him.

If your older than 18 you are an adult and do not need to talk to your parents. If you can't make decisions on your own your parents have failed you.

It's messed up. I got a OVI and refusal of a chemical test in Cincinnati Ohio. I had no keys in the car, it was parked in a parking spot, no drugs no alcohol, nothing like that. Nothing illegal. I had license insurance and all that, that's the only reason I got the OVI. Had I not had a license I wouldn't have got one, It wasn't even my car, and no keys in it. Crazy. I had hypertension level 4 of the heart and was severely dehydrated,
I woke up 14 hours later , in the hospital with a OVI. Having no idea what happened .
It's crazy that was in 2019. I fought it for 18 months, spent at least $9,000 in lawyer fees alone. I still got convicted even with my medical papers, the body cam footage, proved the cop never spoke to me and he forged my signature. Also, I had a witness. The 911 call , everything. Still got convicted. The judge wouldnt even look at the TV when my lawyer put on the copa body came footage. She asked to put it on, ans he said "if you must" ... I was also denied a jury trial, I was on the docket for it like 5 times, and the judge would keep holding me until last, even tho I had a paid lawyer and it's supposed to go in alphabetical order, like the judge would hold me until the jury was sent home, everytime, at least 5 times and then would say, you can have a bench trial... So the 6th or 7th time I just agreed to it, I was tired of paying my lawyer $475 every day she sat there with me, and I was missing work, plus it was a pain to get to court anyway because I had a suspended license. Judge wouldn't grant me a driving privileges or anything, not even to come to court. Lol like wtf. Wouldn't even give me a plea deal .. it was so messed up and crooked its crazy. Sentence to 180 days and a year license suspension and a year probation..
And mind you, this was my first conviction EVER, I loved in this city for 33 years!!!!. I know people with more than one OVi and never spent more than 2 nights in jail...
I couldn't believe it. I moved to a different state. Lol, right across the river, my warrants don't show up here, but I still can't drive. It sucks!!! IL never be able to get a license unless I go back to Ohio and do 6months in jail. Noooo wayy!!! They'll have me in there with predators and bullies and make me a victim again, I think about how much that judge changed my life everyday. I try not to. It's just so crazy !!!!

Yeah well a vast majority of his office including himself got fired. I lived in seal beach during the salon shooting and that was the tipping point that got the public defender wise to what was happening and blew the lid off the whole thing.
Most DA's only care about winning cases. If they have to lie, steal, or cheat to do it, then so be it.

Back in 1999 in Florida i was setup. I gave the person 3 joints. They gave me 3 to 5 years. Now it is legal there. WTF i did over 3 year's!!! I was only 18 and was going to study to be a veterinarian. The weed charge put a stop to that , being you can't be a vet with drug charges. That stupid law ruined my life

exactly. some month ago I was in police station and they(inspector) laugh at me when I asked for lawyer. Only after third time I asked, police brought state lawyer. When lawyer came she said ... ugh, It is long time since the last time she has been in that station. I presume people rarely use they rights.

Some advice to all those out there, if you are ever arrested for anything, drugs, assault, or any other thing, as soon as you sit down and the cop asks you anything, say “I want a lawyer”. That’s it. Say nothing else!

This is far from anything new. I had a friend in college in 1985 who went to Penn State where he got caught with weed. The deal they offered him was turn in four friends or serve nine months. My buddy did the nine months instead of ratting out his friends. Massive respect.

That’s solid but it’s different when looking at 9 years or more, that’s when you really see who folds. If you sign up for something than take responsibility no matter what it is, that’s how I live but most folks don’t even know themselves until in that situation. I’ve did three sentences not snitching. Seen some homies fold and tell before the cuffs were on. “Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time” you are who you hang with is what will remain true to the system.
I knew someone who kept snitching his way out of prison just to start selling drugs again and again. He ended up getting shot in the face. He survived but next time he got arrested he took the jail time.

Jail house snitches have been an issue for years. In cases that rely solely on “testimony”, I’m surprised so many jurors take it a face value.

If you stay quiet and ask for a lawyer right away, it’s out of the polices hands. They have to give YOUR counsel all of the reason behind your arrest. And more often then not, your case is dropped. So, never talk to police they are NOT lawyers. Never talk to them. Always ask for a lawyer because it takes your case out of the hands of the police.
I'm not even sure that with the small amount, these kids COULD be charged with a felony. It sounds like a misdemeanor charge. I'm unsure, but wonder, if a defendant is entitled to a court appointed lawyer for a misdemeanor? It may vary state to state? Idk.

Something needs to change. My brother-in-law has been in Cook County for over 12 years waiting and his case still hasn't gone to trial. They keep claiming they're still in discovery. Unconstitutional.
Did he waive his right to a speedy trial? It's usually one of the first things your attorney asks you to do in the first month after being arrested. They recommend it because there are advantages to delaying, like the temperament cooling down or the public defenders ability to work in a small amount of time .
It seems odd that he has been locked up for over a decade. But remember courts have to grant him for time served

I was born in 1972. The TV shows I grew up with, whether they were news programs or fictionalized shows all referred to _"snitches"_ as people involved in criminal activity who used inside information to cut deals for leniency. Usually, the so-called snitch was either involved in the same crimes as the person(s) they informed on or something slightly less than that.
*Today the act of "snitching" has been manipulated by street gangs to keep innocent people, potential witnesses, in check! If you see and/or hear a crime in progress or find out something about a crime after the fact, contacting the police about it is called snitching when it has nothing to do with that!*

I snitched many times. I told the other inmates that I’ll snitch on you guys if you hassle me. They backed off but then I snitched on them anyway. I’ve snitched on my dry cleaner and snitched on my barista and snitched on the guy who cuts my grass.
Laws making weed illegal seems prehistoric. Laws making a small amount of weed a felony allows law enforcement to prey upon kids to engage in the dangerous act of becoming an informant. When I lived in Arizona if I recall correctly, any amount of weed was a felony, even just a seed. It was nice to see Arizona wake up and legalize it. Hopefully all states wake up and follow suit.
Just make all drugs illegal without proper medical reasons to obtain it. Recreational use should be banned outright.

Problem is some informants are legit being told things and others just trying to help themselves.
I had a sibling who was hooked on addictive drugs by his "friends," and those same "friends," once my sibling was addicted, used him to deal drugs to support his habit. He was busted dealing drugs, because he wasnt a professional criminal, and was forced to snitch on his dealers to avoid maximum criminal penalties. It is nothing short of a miracle that he wasn't shot or killed so that the DA could look good with drug busts. Our system is set up to profit the criminal justice system at the expense of victims.

This happened to me but I did not snitch when I was caught with an illegal substance. Come to find out it was an illegal bust so they could not charge me. I've straightened out a year ago after years of rehabs, jails, and overdoses. I have a year clean now

They’re not putting themselves in the same degree of risk when purchasing as non-informants because they don’t show up wearing A WIRE or with cops following their every move.

This topic needs to be updated .The IL legislature has made it illegal for currently imprisoned people to serve as witnesses.

We had a friend disappear for years on spring break. 4 years later we ran into him and he'd been in Cook County jail for selling ecstasy as a white boy from Kentucky. I'll spare you the details of the hell he went through. The day after we saw him he kidnapped a girl. As police surrounded him he killed himself. Crazy what that jail did to him.
Yea he was selling excatcy a crime..it wasn't weed..u think black n brown only deserve jail if caught selling ex..shame

I, 100% believe that police are capable of doing this, especially if they are promoted based on the number of cases charged and convicted, operating by the very destructive maxim , "the end justifies the mean".
