NOBODY in the United States can stop ANYONE from going to Law School !! They might be able to stop you from entering the BAR. But nobody can stop you from going to school !! This guy is a PERFECT example of "Rehabilitation" !! Thumbs Up video !
Thank you 60 minutes for highlighting the cruel unfairness of our system. We’ve decided that certain people are worthy to change their life around, but others cannot.
Kudos to Seth Waxman for stepping up and becoming a mentor to a talented inmate by insisting upon working with Shawn Hopwood's assistance to argue the case in front of the Supreme Court instead of taking it over and away from him.
There's a basic ignorance among people, and especially other attorneys and doctors especially. There are individuals that have all sorts of education and documentation that buy it, or are not really that smart. We are all given gifts, talents, skills and abilities as souls, and it is up to us to either use it or let it go. Some abuse what they've what they are given for position, money, and fame rather than for good. God bless this young man in his life.
9:27 "Prison guards tell you every day that you're worthless." It's just sad how the U.S. prison system operates. As if losing your freedom wasn't punishment enough. No, we have to denigrade you on top of it. Maybe treating inmates like human beings might actually increase their chances of rehabilitation? Many countries have successfully tried it, maybe it's worth a shot?
This is mind blowing. I wish my son could attend his classes. Truly inspiring. A brilliant mind just probably bored that his previous education could not keep up with his mind. The work of Justice Defenders and public defenders is truly inspiring. The law is fascinatingly beautiful, something I wished I pursued. I could imagine Anderson Cooper to be a passionate lawyer.

Do we have a branch of JUSTISE DEFENDERS here in America? If not, we sure could use one, especially in the southern states. Also, private management of our prison systems is a terrible idea as it creates endless routes for corporate corruption, and makes it easy for those same corporations to hide it.
Personally, 60 Minutes has been available for the entire 66 years that have made up my life...I have nothing but respect for this show... the peterman...
how did the public defenders even have time to get together for a 60 minutes interview? that's the real question. compelling stories, thank you 60 minutes.
I did not know there was a difference. Thank you for bringing this up, and encouraging me to Google this and educate myself. I encourage others to do thr same, This goes under the title, "Good To Know"😊🖖🙌👏
In Aotearoa New Zealand we have a Professor of Criminology who was a career criminal and started his official education in prison. And a Doctor of Psychology who was a convicted murderer and now helps people achieve their best in life, sport or career. There could be many more of these stories if the US reformed its unjust system.
In the last story, these are misrepresented, or falsely advertised loans. Therefore, it is predatory fraud. They are calling it an investment but that isn't how investing works. If it was, the individual needing money for legal reasons would also receive money and in this context would be akin to a business partner. They would both benefit. Instead, it being advertised as investment then they are turning around, suddenly calling it a loan and preying upon the person who was in need of help. Talk about a scam.
Since adoption is a state by state issue: _____ I am advocating, for an adoption embassy in every state of the United States of America. They would be required, to have legal documents necessary to allow adopted people to have their adoption vacated/nullified, regardless of their age or gender. It would be accepted and upheld in every state in the United States of America. (Similar to a divorce.) _____ I am okay, with going to the United States Supreme Court. I am in need of a lawyer to represent me, in regards to having my adoption nullified, and take back my legal birth certificate, and not have that custody or authority be given back to my biological relatives or their relatives. ______ Needed Federal Legislation Adoption Nullification Act: Allowing adopted people to have their adoption nullified, regardless of their age or gender. This would be an Amendment to the Emancipation Proclamation. People are not property. Adoption should not be a form of slavery. Justice Delayed is Justice Denied.
I would appreciate, attorney Jack Smith (Currently working with the DOJ.) to represent me, in regards to having my adoption vacated/nullified and take back my legal birth certificate. And not have that custody or authority to be given back to my biological relatives or their relatives.
I am wondering ...I have heard there is a process to emancipate minor children as adults, a court procedure.....maybe some lawyer reading can answer this point
If there is NO opportunity for Betterment of oneself in prison, then might as well stick them in the Colosseum and charge money to watch !! What a waste to not teach/train/counsel inmates !
@@susankeith326you could be telling the truth, but if it's not articulated in the right way it means nothing in court of law.... you can roll your eyes all you want but that the fact.... Like running for president of the United States if you don't articulate the right words you're never going to be elected as president of United States even if you're very intelligent and you can do the job.... 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Litgation Funding? This is gross. Despicable. Think about the conniving mind, and the lack of morals it took to think this up. It's become an American tradition to pray on those who are vulnerable to attain possible profit. 🫤😕😡

True indeed, and it begins with color
@Mister-Reno true black people get away with too much.

I love these stories
This is great. Men helping men. Keep it up. Spread the news.
Our criminal justice system has been in dire need of reform fore decades. The war on drugs incentivized corruption within the justice system.
9:27 "Prison guards tell you every day that you're worthless."

What’s worse is that the COs were cashiers at Walmart before they got hired out of desperation 😂
The humbleness of this man that's what builds character
Wow! Truth is indeed stranger than fiction! This must be made into a movie!
My heart weeps for joy for this young man and his family!
Truth is only stranger than fiction for those who don't read.
This is an AMAZING story!

Amazing story.
Great story.
WOW WOW what an inspiring story of a bank robber to a lawyer professor.
God showing who he is through this man. Use it for Him and not the world and he will always be blessed.
YesMagnify.
Here, lawyers won't talk to you if you are poor, sometimes depending on your appearance.
Outstanding
Hope is alive and well

STOP BEING AS!!!🤡🤐
Sounds like several left the field
hell yeah. good for these guys
Inspiring.
This is why the education system in the US needs to change. And why our incarceration in the US needs to change...
When they treat criminals better than military veterans. Irony
Release full transcript of kamala interview. Stop manipulating and lying
Something that has nothing to do with this. Quit spreading B.S.
I wish the Government would create a pathway to become a Public Defender . Like an Apprenticeship or fast track Learning to fill the employment gaps.
Do people know the difference between an attorney and a lawyer?
I did not know there was a difference. Thank you for bringing this up, and encouraging me to Google this and educate myself. I encourage others to do thr same, This goes under the title, "Good To Know"😊🖖🙌👏
The first guy is just a nerd gone wrong. Bad guys don’t talk like that😂

inspiring. I bet the guards hate the fact that this inmate is more successful than anyone administrating the prison
Pamela Medsker is a saint.
I'd watch a movie about the lawyer at Georgetown!!!
i can't wait they made movie about his life.

Exactly. When 100% interest is tacked on, it goes from investment for a profit percentage to loan sharking.

Adoption Nullification Act:
Allowing adopted people to have their adoption nullified, regardless of their age or gender.
This would be an Amendment to the Emancipation Proclamation.
People are not property.
Adoption should not be a form of slavery.
Justice Delayed is Justice Denied.
I need more information about the adoption. My fiance told me he was adopted to cover his birth mother's mistake.
I would appreciate, attorney Jack Smith (Currently working with the DOJ.) to represent me, in regards to having my adoption vacated/nullified and take back my legal birth certificate. And not have that custody or authority to be given back to my biological relatives or their relatives.

First guy is a good dude. 👍🏾
God is Great
Hopewood recently got arrested for domestic violence and faces serious legal trouble.
The Judges and attorneys need to be given random drug tests
Alligator's don't eat lawyers ....( professional courtesy).
Why are they only doing paralegal for women but lawyer for men. They should allow both.
Omg this 1st story.
"MORAL TURPITUDE"...covers, a lot of ground...
I'm one of those persons convicted wrongfully for a crime and sentenced to 4 years!(1981 to 1985)
If there is NO opportunity for Betterment of oneself in prison, then might as well stick them in the Colosseum and charge money to watch !! What a waste to not teach/train/counsel inmates !
why would repealing the death penalty be more humane? That's the opposite of humane in many cases for both the prisoner and society.
SO DID ANY OF THESE PRISONERS HE HELPED GET ANY OF THIER LEGAL FEES THEY PAID BACK FROM THESE INEPT LAWYERS & JUDGES?
Must be hurtin' for views, this was originally aired in 2017.
❤❤❤❤Grace
1 crime does not a criminal make, unless you intend to make a career of it. (Quoting an M.A. not me).
He has since allegedly committed another.
Does anyone watch 60 minutes? I don’t. Edit edit and edit it out of existence.
