Would have loved more freedom in how our Fallout 4 character felt about the pre-war world. Would love playing as a pre-war dissident and seeing how they'd react to the new post-nuclear world.
I thought it would've been cool to see more evidence towards a counter-culture and Communist fifth column in the remnants of the old world especially in the mainstream games.
@@danielmurdock9159Closest thing to that that I know of is that there are pre war terminal logs in the Divide that mention protesters being sent to the Big MT to be experimented on and turned into Lobotomites
I somehow doubt that the Vietnam war did happen in the Fallout universe in the same way, that war had such a devastating impact on the image that America wanted to put forward as ideal, and I find that to be at odds with the world of Fallout. A strong counter-culture movement came to the forefront in reaction to that war, and that is part of how the "American dream" depicted in Fallout became a parody and the target of mockery. I find it more likely that, if there was a Vietnam war, the US won it relatively quickly, without any publicized bloodshed, so nobody ever thought about it or cared much about those events, and the US' image remained largely intact. In fact, I think this is key to what the culture of earlier pre-war America is like in Fallout. Because that version of the US didn't have any controversies in the late 20th century, it never lost, and never had its image criticized or put into question, a culture of conformist stagnation established itself, which I believe is what led to all of that old-timey weirdness we see in society. At least until it all started going to proper shit near the end, maybe if kept going, they would have arrived at a cultural identity similar to what we have now.
It’s worth noting as well that the technological pathways were vastly different as well. Nuclear Power never got completely demonized in this timeline, and there are several technologies that are either present or have different equivalent. Plus, certain events like the resource wars happening, which didn’t happen even similarly at all like events around the Middle East did in our world. Diplomacy also seems to have been much more aggressive in their timeline as opposed to ours.
I may not like 4 as much as older Fallout titles, but I give credit where it's due, having the game start off in pre-war times and seeing the bombs drop instantly engaged me with it 😊
Im addicted to Fallout in any way, shape or form. Music, Games, Lore everything. Instantly subbed! I write some tunes myself if ever curious. Much Love from The Netherlands ❤
Ever since Fallout London came out, there's been some people imagining what a Fallout game in Mexico would look like. And judging by this video and it's thesis, Prewar Mexico would likely be embroiled in a Third Mexican Revolution. Basically after the US absorbed Mexico for Oil Interests, the Mexican government went into hiding and did what most Mexican foods do inside an American: give them bad gas and stomach problems. When the war in Alaska broke out, many fought to show their anti-communist sentiments (even straight up wearing Chinese bones like Aztec armor) and gather intel on US strategies. Then a month before the Great War, Mexico starts a revolt, storming armories and bases, and dilute the situation with the media claiming that Mexico is fighting Communists that infiltrated the US military. To save face the US swept it under the rug assuming nuclear fire will wipe the slate clean, only for the Mexican exile government to hire a research team and make bootleg vaults and such. Most of the survivors are either farmers from the mountains and jungles that escaped the holocaust, or Bovederos that hid underground.
Third revolution? We never had a second one nor a civil war, it was independence and then revolution, fallout New Mexico was gonna present how Mexico was both pre war and post war at least in the northern states close to the border(in the lore Mexico City was left as a giant crater but the other 30 states were relatively untouched by bombs but maybe now by fallout and mutated fauna and flora. Sadly the project is on hold for now
On the classic games it was evident that the pre war was a pretty Messed thing... if you put in TV power armored dudes executing in live tv a canadian dude.... the pre war american society should not be different than the Insoc one. The lvl of acceptance of a society to watch a live execution and accept that as a new normality keepen ing mind that it was on american soil (canadian) Differs pretty much from the execution of the Vietnamese capitain on the Tet offensive.... wich seriously deminished the overall public acceptance of the vietnam war (in reality). But nowadays thanks to Fo 4 and the show it just look like an utopic america that messed a bit with resources and then evil chinese guys fucked everything. I preffered the version of the classic games because if the us was that fucked... maybe now in the post apocalypse something better can be crafted. The new iterations of fallout pre war america remind me the old world blues core of new vegas: Thinking so much in the past that the present cannot be see and let alone the future, all by a distorted vision of the past for wich everyone blames technology and sience for the errors of the past. Edit: i believe the soviet union didnt collapsed because we have soviet embasy grand daughter in Fo 1 i guess, mentions to Ivan the comie on helios one computer in NV, and a soviet downed satelite with the URSS or CCCP and sicke and hammer insignia.... so... to me thats not collapsing. The thing is that maybe they where more focused with europe and less with the US because that job was made by china.... bit idk
Barb wasn’t making sure they were wealthy enough, they were already loaded like Coop said. She was making sure they were well connected enough. A lot of people bought their way into vaults that were still experiments. She wanted to be “in a good vault” a controlling one.
I suggest you watch Radking's video on the inflation in fallout. A lot of things are basically target inflation you'd expect in 50 years, and a few interesting ones were more.
Yep. LIke one of the few interesting things to come out of the recent fallout lore was '76 in how the early survivors dealt with the pre-War world and post war. It'd be interesting to do a follow uo video to see what we could guess about the politics of the dissidents during the 2070s. Since we see a lot of hippie signs in the Hidden Valley bunkers and mention of them in computer terminals. As well the Free Staters in WV.
It was alright, from what I understand. Sure it has its fair share of problems too, but it was a lot better than the wasteland that exists now. Then again, that’s probably not saying much.
What good was the military complex able to gain or what point was vaultecs profits if the world ended? short sighted views like this that plague the world currently. If Maldover was able to carry on with the cold fusion tech imagine how beneficial that would of been for the world of fallout.
I've wanted a FO to start on the moon, you fight the Chinese then ally with the Chinese for a moment when the Zetans attack. Defeat the zetan scout ship after the Zetans launch a nuke at America, and you get front seat view of earth nuking. Get distress call from your family that made it to vault, get to earth to rescue family from vault tec experiment!
@jonathancunningham8739 Amd there is a list of retcons the show has made, the majority stupid. Like why do ghouls now need a serum to not go feral? How and where is it being made? How did one of the first ghouls ever get ahold of it if he needs it daily? They should've left show lore separate from game lore

That's because war, war never changes.
It's creativity and the universe of fallout, the old with the new. Makes this franchise great. Up there with Skyrim, Halo, Total war.

I want the next fallout to have a prewar section, either starting before the bombs or time travel!
Already happened
Maybe living the last week before the bombs, starting on October 16th, 2077, and then you end up dying in the blast no matter what.

Why do news headlines look like fallout headlines 50 years to soon
Because war, war never changes. The ideas that fallout was built on were known talking points back then. Resource wars, mega-corporations, etc..
