  • The prewar world was one of immense possibility. The "world of tomorrow" offered luxuries and opportunities never before available to mankind. However, brewing underneath the surface was discontent that bubbled into the most cataclysmic war that mankind had ever experienced. The Sino-American War was the one that ultimately led to the new dark age we find ourselves within the Fallout Universe.

    • @Seriona1
      @Seriona1 2 роки тому +59

      The problem is that they did not explain in the details if he Annexation is true. Some people argue that the US just said it and Canada decided to allow the US to move in while others agree it actually happened but there is two issues with that actually happening. 1st, someone in Canada would resist it and there is no mention of this issue. 2nd, Annexing Canada is technically an act of war on UK unless Canada joins the US by choice which is possible with an annex move.

      @@Seriona1 Dawg there are mentions of Canadian resistance in literally the first cutscenes of fallout 1. "Our boys keeping the peace in occupied Canada" shows a dude in Power Armor executing a Canadian protester/insurgent. The Survivalist from Zion camion is implied to have worked on a military checkpoint in occupied Canada, with his gun having "STOP" written in both English & French on the stock, probably meaning there was restriction of movement for Canadians, as well as active Canadian resistance.
      2. The UK has been reduced to near destruction like the rest of the European commonwealth even before the war. The war with the middle east and subsequent collapse of European peace probably means the UK is no longer in any condition to contest an American annexation of Canada.

      @@urbangradisek5695 The IJA and the government may have been losing, but a large portion of their command were fanatics who intended to continue the war to the last man. A naval invasion of the Japanese Mainland or strategic bombing campaigns would be disastrous for US forces, and significantly worse for japanese civilians(of course, not counting Hiroshima/Nagasaki). It was a strategic choice. That being said, yes, it also served as a political demonstration of the power the USA now wielded, but that was a secondary effect.

    • @AntPictures
      @AntPictures 2 роки тому +18

      @LOAN NGUYEN That might look as a justification of a genocide, even if the nuclear bombs weren't the worst what US did to Japan. Napalm bombings that were happening for weeks took much more civillians lives than nuking Heroshima and Nagasaki. The sad truth was that 1.5 million red army launched an attack in Manchuria at the time of nuking. So it wasn't just the bombs that made Japan generals to capitulate, it was the overwhelming attacking enemy forces from both sides. I truly believe that civvie murder at that time could have been avoided and there is no justification for using weapons of mass destruction unless only to defend one's country from real existential threat.

    • @AntPictures
      @AntPictures 2 роки тому +15

      @LOAN NGUYEN Indeed. And the question is: where do we draw the line? For example I find the idea of "preemptive nuclear strike" frightening. It contradicts the MAD principle that held this world from becoming a real Fallout experience.
      I also find it plausible that American generals of that time didn't yet understood the implications of nuclear weaponry. It was a new and unknown entity in 1944. And at the time of a WW2 might have looked as a perfect way to demonstrate a super weapon to the world.

    • @joelfilho2625
      @joelfilho2625 2 роки тому +28

      @@AntPictures keep in mind. The "demonstration" served a dual purpose, both to strategically cripple japanese morale and war support, as well as provide a single point of "overwhelming power" to show the might of the USA. This further allowed the Japanese to capitulate far faster than what would be required of a naval invasion and strategic bombing campaign, meaning less time for the communists to gather more soil and expand their influence.

      1. Have there be an equivalent to liberty prime that is a giant Kaiju mech based on Pulgasari
      2. Have there be a “Tomb” that is actually a pre-war research base guarded by “Terracotta Soldiers” (advanced robots with a ceramic plating, have them be kind of bullet-spongey but the ceramic armor can be broken off)
      3. Rename raiders to bandits
      4. A companion that is a prototype autonomous suit of power armor, you encounter him being attacked by bandits looking to scrap him for parts, he can work as a traditional companion but can also be used as a suit of power armor (perhaps providing some bonus)

    I always loved the simplicity of the explanation for why Fallout happened. It didn't matter which side was worse because they both were guilty of monstrous crimes. Operation Anchorage was a good DLC but I feel like it failed to capture the conflict in its scale, I guess it's due to it being a simulation tailored for American interests. Fallout 4 had a chance to delve deeper into the war but again, Bethesda just struggles with writing that's beyond surface deep. It's preferable to consider to the Fallout west coast story where the actual story is naught but a string of loose theories and circumstance evidence from Ghoul perspectives. The truth being that it might have just been the culmination of Capitalism and Communist governments finally prove the worst out of each other.

    • @someguy9293
      @someguy9293 4 місяці тому

      I think the reason Fallout happened wasn't because of capitalism or communism. It was despresim, and need for victory by both sides that caused them to unleash nuclear war. Weather it was America or China or someone else that caused the 'Great War' is still up for debate.
      The reasons for China firing off the nukes is pretty obvious. They were losing, on the edge of defeat, and there territories were in total chaos.
      Possibly the Chairman Chang in an act of desperation launched all of China's nukes in hopes of Mutually Accured Destruction?
      Reasons for America to fire the nukes is also obvious. Roits were common, desertion was high, and despite the victory groups in and around the U.S. were beginning to form break away States from America. Perhaps the President or Enclave or Congress though a swift deadly end was better then a slow one?
      Then there is Vault-Tech, and Psychopathic robots.

      The artists and authors don’t come up with all of this background and other stuff without at least trying to think it through to make it appear plausible in their minds within the premise of their world. Which means that at least some of what they come up with comes from their actual ideas about reality. You can see the consequences of that in this very comment sections, as people compare it to reality.
      Except it’s literally ridiculous beyond recognition, because it is in fact fiction, and it is in fact made by creative authors and writers, not realistically grounded people.

    You could argue that the Chimera was a fiction from the U.S general that helped with the simulation (operation: anchorage), and that could be absolutely true, since the general had lost his marbles by the time of this simulation (based on the text files you find in the game). But an equally compelling argument could be made for the Chinese retrofitting them as tanks for the conflict.
    Think about it, the Chinese (based on Op: Anchorage) retrofitted Canadian mining machines to counter U.S power armor as a stop-gap measure in case the U.S tried to storm their pulse field with regular infantry.
    While it is implied that the general giving advice to the simulation crew was PTSD'D and unreliable, there are shards of truth in that brain that leaked into the simulation you played in Op: Anchorage.

  • @trainknut
    @trainknut 2 роки тому +17

    I'd really like to see a mod on Fallout 4's engine with a full campaign set in China.
    Here's my recommendation;
    Fallout: Yangtze
    Set the world around the Yangtze river
    If you know Chinese geography even slightly well you know this is one of the biggest and most important waterways in the world
    In terms of gameplay you could have a very large map with mixtures of jungle, swamp, and rolling asian hills.
    China has a long history of warlords, I think the most logical step in canon is to have the Yangtze province be sort of like the Chinese equivalent to the Commonwealth or even New Vegas, with indicators and wounds of the war everpresent, but new factions and settlements bringing some small humanity to the wasteland.
    You could have a faction based on the pseudo-fascist pre-revolution Republic of China, a royalist faction based on the old dynasties(similar to the legion, but chinese warriors), and of course Communist PLA remnants.
    But here's my twist.
    Have a significant(but small) area controlled by an _American_ settlement, but here's the thing, you could go one of two ways(or, if you really wanna get fancy, BOTH)
    First: Make them a direct US Army/Marine Corps descendant faction, obsessed with maintaining their fleet of power armor and advanced weaponry, a combination of Brotherhood of Steel and Enclave tendencies, with their own unique ideology based on hundreds of years of guerilla warfare behind enemy lines.
    Second option: Have an NCR style mixed democratic community descended from both American occupying forces and local Chinese tribes, where they speak a mixture of English and Chinese and both is taught in their schools, and they have an impressive but underpowered military held back by the usual red tape of a democracy in the wasteland.
    Here's one pitch for how this could work:
    The Yangtze river acts as the great barrier.
    On one side you have the "American remnants" with two factions fighting among themselves.
    The Yangtze Republic, a democratic union of settlements with a mostly defensive army, with numbers but limited technology.
    And the Extremists, a radical group of mostly ex-military officers who hoard technology and simultaneously fight an ethnic war against the Chinese population itself.(Including their Yangtze Republic brothers, as they are seen as "unpure")
    The Extremists will be a small faction with an extreme technology advantage and simultaneously extreme tactics and skill/experience.
    They'll be experts of technology and use vertibirds and unique variants of upgraded power armor, modified from hundreds of years of damage and shoddy field repair to dominate on the battlefield, however they fight in small teams and usually use hit and run tactics and stealth technology reverse engineered from the Chinese to hide themselves in plain sight.
    On the other side you have a vast dangerous swamp and jungle divided by cliffs
    In the swamps you have the fascists and the communists.
    They battle over the waterways and fertile lands in an endless ideological war.
    Further inland you climb the great cliffs and enter a comparative paradise, of endless rolling hills and fertile farmland.
    But as you go farther inland you begin to feel as though you're being watched.
    That's when the Emperor's Dynasty makes themselves known.
    Similar to the Legion of the Mojave these men base their customs and armour on ancient culture - in this case specifically the Ming dynasty.
    Similar to the Extremists of the opposite side of the Yangtze, the Dynasty fight an ethnic war, of Chinese purity, and are made up of former Royalist rebels as well as defected PLA remnants, perhaps they could be less evil than the Legion, dispensing of outright slavery but rather relying on a still highly unethical feudal warlord style of rule, with misogyny still everpresent in their society and the population divided into a peasant and a ruling class.
    Of course with their warlord style of leadership, there is endless possibility for backstabbing, sabotaging and infiltration missions, and outright infighting and civil war between lords.
    The various lords could all be based on different dynasties in their architecture, customs, and equipment/armour, but there could be a constant obsession with honour and loyalty to the Emperor shared between the tribes. I think this would be an excellent way to portray the extremely diverse and long history of China without being overwhelming in exposition and complication - with each settlement and their respective "tribe" representing a different era, all with a sci-fi and apocalyptic twist obviously.
    I'm by no means an expert, but, I'm just saying, if I _was_
    This would be the mod I would make.

Not an RPG like a normal Fallout game but something more like old fashioned Call Of Duty where it specifically shows significant events throughout the war. We got something like that in the Operation Anchorage DLC for Fallout 3 but that was primarily focused on the end of the war in Alaska. I wanna see a game that tells the whole story!

      According to records in the DIA facility under Boston (FO4), the Chinese attacked by surprise. On the other hand, records in the Whitesprings facility (FO76) suggest that Thomas Eckhart of the Enclave might have taken it upon himself; there's an email from someone telling him that they were all trapped in a simulation by a rival group and the only way out was to destroy "what we perceive to be a small city in south-central China", and another from senior leadership telling him not to launch that attack - and what happened in that bunker immediately after the War shows us how much respect Eckhart had for the chain of command.

      It really doesnt. The fundamental reason for the conflict is all wrong. There are so many resources on earth and in space that lack of resources is really no excuse for war. No more oil? Renewables, nuclear and fusion energy solve that. No more water? Desalination plants. Lack of food? Genetically modified plants/livestock. Not enough living space? Arcologies. Pandemic? I mean, youve seen that the world is dealing quite well with one. To every conceivable question of the future there is a rational, pragmatic answer, you just have to look for it and be willing to do whats neccesary. There is never, ever a need for war, its just pointless wasting of lives and resources better spent elsewhere.

    Though I'm not sure it would be executed well, I kind of want to see in the future a plot line in a new game where a faction from China ends up in America (a whole faction, not just one guy in a submarine like in F4), specifically Chinese loyalists that believe the war never ended. And I don't mean because they're old or crazy and don't realize the bombs never dropped, but due to an opinion held by their faction that because no formal documents detailing the terms of surrender or a treaty was drafted, they believe the war technically never ended, and it's their duty to find an authoritative faction in postwar America, and conquer them, thus in their eyes winning a 2 century long war. I feel like this could be a very interesting avenue to go down, with numerous possible outcomes, regardless of whether it's a side questline or a main one. Hell, this may be a good time to reintroduce the Enclave as a force to be reckoned with, though I'm not sure how well another retconned in surviving faction of the Enclave would go over with players. Just an interesting idea I had randomly while watching this video
