I've been subbed to you since I was 15...Now 20, it's good to see you evan and continuing your art. your tutorials taught me well, and laid a new foundation when it came to the basis for my art. Great video~
iUlquiorra KZ thanks 🙏🏾
I dig you review man :)
I'd be a rich man if I had a dollar for every "you know" he said.
LOL...you are soooooo right
@@cartoonblock XD Im just busting your chops. Love the videos!
a tip : you can watch series on KaldroStream. I've been using them for watching a lot of movies lately.
@Drake Jaxon Definitely, I have been watching on Kaldrostream for since december myself :D
Nice review. Definitely picking this up once I save up.
Thanks :)
Always following you since your Monkey D Luffy tutorial, you are awesome bro. You have inspired me so much...thank you!
Thanks for the support :)
I just bought it now, I genuinely can't wait to get started with it!
How is it?
@@suplexsuarez3384 - Pardon my French if you're a religious man? But it's fucking amazing! I have no regrets whatsoever! Even if you're a beginner, it's brilliant! Don't let the price hold you back matet go for it. I love it!
How is it doing now? Is it still good 😳
@@faerie2750 - 5 months on and it's still really awesome dude! I still use it and I think it's great. But if you can get a Wacom Cintiq pro, then get that instead.
Hi, can I know if we can do screen recording with this tablet? Can you record your screen while painting on it?
Hey i have a question for animators, do you feel like the size of this tablet is good? Does it feels small to draw at? Im asking to see if i should be looking at 22” tablets or this
Hi, nice review. Can you use this wacom tablet to edit/enhance pencil drawings and/or photos scanned to a PC/Laptop?
Yes another vid
hello, what music are you using in the video? its very calming and cool :) thank you!
Any chance we'll see another office/workspace tour? would be great to see an update
You know what....I think that's a great idea. It's been a while since I did a workspace tour. I'll add that to my list.
Great review thank you. I was looking at the Wacom Cintiq 16 since that looks quite ideal. I, however, had my attention taken by the XP-Pen Artist 22R Pro 21,5" as well. The bigger size would be useful as I would be working solidly from my desk (and a big display is cool af). I'm wondering if it's worth to invest in a Artist 22R Pro.
I've had and tried them (huion and xp pen) and the initial activation force is quite poor. The parallax is more noticeable. And the biggest flaw of it all is the jittery lines. After 2 years of having them, my screen started to have dead pixels. I now switched to cintiq 16 and could instantly tell the difference. Wacom may be over priced but you definitely get top quality. Also my 10 years old intuos 3 still works, it shows how Wacom can last a while.
How do you rotate canvas while drawing ..does the express key work for screen rotation ?
Love this
abubacarr jeng thanks
I'm trying to decide which one: iPad pro or this... what's the pros & cons?
Thx!!!
does the screen have texture like or paper like feel?..
COOOOLL!!
Nice review
Jeff Voss thanks
I have the Cintiq 13HD and I have two main viewpoints. First, the drawing feel is best in class. I've used a Lenovo tablet laptop with pen support, an iPad Pro with pen, a Samsung Note 8 phone, and an older Fujitsu laptop that had pen support. The Cintiq just feels the best from the accuracy, speed, and screen feel when drawing. My main issue with the 13HD is it has a grainy screen. I assume it's the layer on top that gives it a little more paper like feeling when drawing on and also is anti-glare, but it's just not a sharp screen. It also runs a little dark so I have the brightness turned all the way up on it. The colors are not the most accurate either. I have the screen mirrored to another LED screen and I can see far more detail on the regular screen. Some light tones on a white background are completely invisible on the 13HD, but I can see them plain as day on the monitor. I'd like to upgrade to a larger and newer Cintiq, but if the screens aren't brighter, more accurate, and don't have the graininess, I'll stick with what I have for now because those are real deal breakers for me. Does the Cintiq 16 have a grainy screen?
What about vector files, illustrator??? Please explain....I need to start getting educated on illustrator...thx
I'm new to this, lol. I used my Laptop and Photoshop for years. I was thinking of an IPad Gen 2, or Pro. But this looks more art related, and cheap, thanks. Been following you for a year or two.
A lot of pros are starting to use Ipad pros with the ipen. They get good results, and are cost effective.
I was thinking about getting one, but I am use to drawing on my PC.
Thanks. This is a lot cheaper than iPad Pro. It all comes down to what you can afford. It works great for all your drawing apps on your computer.
@@AlphaProto So, both of these are good, I also want something lighter to carry, lol.
@@cartoonblock Oh okay.
@@cartoonblock that really depends on what you factor in the cost. This is 650 for the screen alone, there is no PC attached to it. Windows software tends to be more expensive than ipad apps as well.
If you add the 650 dls screen to a 1,000 dls computer, then paying 800 dls for an ipad pro isn't so crazy. There's also the fact the regular ipad now works with the apple pencil and apparently performance wise its very similar (and that ipad is now under 400 dls!)
Also, you get procreate on the ipad
What software do you need if any to use the tablet
I am very bbbbbbbig fan of yours.. I'm following you since 2012
Thanks
Wacom finally decided to make an affordable pen display after so many competitors have created really impressive tablets for well under Wacom's original $1000 entry point. I'm still peeved I bought my 13HD when I could have gotten comparable tablets for~$400-$600. Granted, I bought it several years ago, but this is the first affordable display they've put out. Shame they took so long.
would this not work then with the newest MacBook Pro with Touch Bar?
It's $649.95. You're welcome.
Mines arrived yesterday but unfortunately I dont have a usb/hdmi port on mac os
this is good investment for amateur and early professionals artist, not wacom fanboy but I am using intuos 3, 5 and artisul right now. This thing can hold at least 3-4 years I believe and its like $150 per year this is amazing :)
I finally got mine 4 days ago. The last thing I need is the express key remote.
Awesome! Let us know how you like it after using it for awhile.
cartoonblock - I like it. I plan on using it for animation. Trying to get down the mechanics of painting and blending digitally but thanks for responding Evan. Hey can you do another animator interview or illustrator? Whenever you have the time. I’m glad I found you back in 08 when you were making how to drawings of powerpuff girls and interviewing one of the animators and illustrator of dexter’s lab which I can’t remember his name.
Can you draw fast without too much lag?
Is this worth the extra price over the XP Pen 22e pro? Is the pen/responsiveness/parallax that much better?
With Cintiq, you don't have to charge the stylus. XP requires you to charge the stylus with the 22e Pro...but it is also a bigger monitor. Depends on what you prefer.
Wow! It is pretty affordable! For a Cintiq.
It's also not so premium. For a Cintiq
@@christopherjakubowski180 Oh really? What's wrong with it?
@@christopherjakubowski180 id say its extremely premium. anyone with a cintiq has a top quality drawing experience, nothing else matches it.
@@juneru2 Not so... The laminated screen from wacom (and pen) and probably from apple as well (ipad) what makes those device premium.
@@nanodesu9031 but you still get the pro pen 2 (wacoms best pen) with the cintiq 16. also a non-laminated screen is something very easy to get used to. all but one of the reviewers i saw for the 16 didnt even notice.
That price isn't bad. I paid $700 for a used Cintiq 21UX.
The going rate for a cintiq was in the $1000 range.
It's heavy, hot, has a slick screen, and isn't even HD.
I will have to save up and get one of these.
I'm very pleased with this Cintiq 16. It's very pro & top of the line.
Earn like 400$, sell your 21X, and you'll be able to afford it.
@@ArtsyDreamr Looks like that is what a lot of people are doing. There are a lot of 21UX on ebay used for way less than I payed.
I like having the big screen. The 16 screen is still a good size for drawing, and seems like something I could take on the go.
I also like drawing with a tablet on my lap. That is something you can't do with a 21UX.
@@AlphaProto Yeah exactly. Even if the 16 is too small (Which is crazy to me because the 22 inches feel like overkill) there's always a larger, extra monitor.
I wish I could have that
I need more moolah
nice video
Do you use photoshop
My mac is old and lags when using photoshop will that affect the wacom performance??
yes. It is just a secondary display, not a stand alone device. Other problems you "might" face is latency. Either you upgrade or find other alternative art software which doesnt have high system requirements like Paint tool Sai.
Scott Black if u got the money, first get a better computer. Then, invest in a pen display.
Would you say it's a replacement to the 13hd?
Yes.
갖고싶다 신디크....!! 아이패드프로랑 비교해선 어떨지도 궁금하군요. I want to have this.......
I hope Wacom will send it to the beginners also so it feels more confident and the will to make art and improve too and not only pros.
Your art wont simply improve just because you have an expensive/pro grade equipment. Graphics/drawing tablets are just tools. What determines the quality of your artwork are your skills and passion to improve and learn. Alot of professional artists even till this day still uses a decade old tablets ( Sinix for example still uses a 16 year old Intuos3)
miku miku pen display will not help u draw better. Only time & dedication will help improve your skills....not a pen display
@@nanodesu9031 There are amazing artist out there that use pen and paper! or just a regular ink pen. Look at Kim Jung Gi for example.
That said, it is nice having an undo button ;P
@@OscarChabrand definitely! Ghad, I cant even remember how many papers I've wasted in the past. The only reason why I invested in a drawing tablet was to save me from continuously buying consumable art materials.
@@nanodesu9031 if it makes you feel any better (might be worse) at least paper comes from a renewable source while aluminum, glass and lithium (plus all the rare earth metals) certainly are not :-(
I'm not a Wacom basher. I think they make pretty good stuff. I have an Intuos tablet myself. I have had problems with the drivers, but I've never dealt with customer support so I can't say what that's like. Here's the thing, there's no way this thing doesn't have parallax that's comparable to a Huion or other. At this price, that's one of the corners they had to cut. I have an XP-Pen 22e pro and I love it. I got it on a lightning special and they included a coupon. So I got a 21.5" screen for less than half what this one costs. Even at full price, it's $100 less. As for the pen, I really like the pens (you get two) that come from XP. It's a personal thing so I don't think anyone can say one is significantly better than another within certain levels of quality, you like what you like. As for drivers, I've had a lot less trouble with the XP-Pen drivers than I had with Wacom. Might just be my experience, but it's true. I'm glad Wacom is offering some more affordable devices for those who need or want one. I'm assuming that a 4K device will be coming from the alternatives sometime in the near future. When they do, things will get really interesting.
Michael Hill True. It all comes down to personal choice.
The parallax is the best I've ever seen on Cintiq....and the stylus doesn't require charging like the XP PEN. I suppose that's why XP offers 2 styluses.
It all comes down to personal choice and what we consider priority (parallax, price, hot keys, screen size, charging or not charging stylus, desk space, etc). So many factors.
@@cartoonblock All true. You do a great job with these videos, thanks for making them. I also like that your art is really strong. I think it adds a lot when someone is a strong artist and evaluates these devices. And I don't know who shoots them, but the production quality is really high. Thanks again, keep it up.
@@cartoonblock Hey have you ever tried the Cintiq Pro line? they claim the parallax there is non existent but don't really say that about this cheaper cintiq. Based on your video the parallax does look very very small though! I have a cheap bosto tablet and the parallax is huge. After using the ipad pro it's hard to go back to that.
It looks like there's too much of a delay. And the editing on this video did a good job of hiding that
Does the screen get hot like the msp 16?
I didn't feel the screen get hot. But it does get slightly warm.
Can I screen record using this tablet?
Yes--just make sure you’re connected to your computer or laptop
@@cartoonblock thanks 🙏🏽
Evan im glad to see you again, but i have a question? how do you feel about the Government shut down and how will it affect america and the economy of 2019 and future?
that is the last thing i expected to see in the comments
Rosa Torres 😆
Can you do animation on that device?
Of course. You can animate on any tablet. Display or not.
@@th3azscorpio thanks very much 👌🏽
@@mixkrapht No prob! =D
What are the computer requirements are needed to run this device?
You only need a computer good enough to not lag behind with brush strokes, the pen screen in itself do not add any weight to run. So you can test this around before having the pen screen. Just try to cursor draw as wildly as you think you would with pen, sharp quick rounds not turn to squares and such. Just be sure to be at similar screen resolutions though of course.
Miter Ball just need HDMI & USB connections on ur computer. Of course, u already need ur drawing apps already installed on the computer
When is the Academy opening??
Early this year. Stay tuned.
cartoonblock cool just looking forward to getting started
Yea, we know.....
LOL
I would point out it's NOT that great for serious Photo editing and some artists as its fairly low on the colour reproduction accuracy, its also not the 4K screen that the higher models are. It's a great, much more affordable product than the other cintiq displays but I still feel if you are needing the highest colour reproduction accuracy and highest resolution images then you are still better off going with the Cintiq Pro versions which unfortunately do cost MUCH more. This is, however, a huge leap forward in making a pretty fantastic cintiq affordable to a much wider audience, including myself. Whereas the Pro versions though incredible products just weren't affordable for me or for many.
ur right. it's not part of the "pro" line. but still a good entry level display for anyone who's never owned a Cintiq
@@cartoonblock Including myself, in Australia this costs $900 AUD, considering I think I spent something like $7-900 (I can't remember exactly) on the wacom intuos Paper large which I didnt end up using as i couldnt get past the strange action of drawing on the tablet and looking at the screen and the parallax, this is comparatively affordable.
Affordable?
Want
Once you get used to pinch zoom and rotate I can’t get back to non touch pen displays. If this is how you make your living, the price is what it is. I do have to say that next to my Apple stuff the industrial design and the construction is not up to Apple standards. My rubber thing at the bottom of my mobile studio I noticed it’s starting to come off. I think gone are the days when a Cintiq lasts 10 years
It's so much easier to draw on this tablet. U don't need to use other tools beside tablet's pen. Right?
DeFreeZe Dead Simply plug it into your computer, then simply start drawing using the Stylus....with ur usual drawing programs.
Thank you Evan for the review, no I definitely going to to buy this machine.
This is super wacom cintiq16
This is not a review folks, its a payed ad for the tablet made by cartoonblock for Wacom. A real review for any product what so ever is not just happy days and positivity. If you want to see a ad for this product this video is for you, if your looking for a real review go somewhere else.
I was not paid for this review. This video is "not" sponsored.
It probably is a great tool - especially when they send it to you for free!
I wish people understood that the typical Cintiq is over $1k. $650 is a bargain for what you get.
So true.
2:34 Your Macbook has HDMI side port?? 🙄
Melchi Zedeq yeah I got HDMI & USB on the side. U need both to use the Cintiq
I just want to add few words to this review for people who want to buy 16hd
Parallax is PRESENT in this device.
This is one of many features Wacom had to cut off in order to bring down the price.
Next is color gamut. It is only 72% NTSC - just like in majority of cheaper alternatives.
No big deal, but you know... You may find this screen pretty dim.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't buy it. Wacom is great company nonetheless
But I believe you should take these factors in consideration before buying and that these informations should be in every review.
Lisa from mobiletechreview got it to 96%srgb after calibration.
Not sure what you'd get with the cheaper alternatives.
Keep in mind, there is more to colour accuracy than gamut.
Agree. Though I think the greatest drawback is the non laminated screen. Color accuracy can easily be calibrated but parallax is something you cant simply fix through software. Though you can remedy or lessen it through recalibration but the fact that it is present is worth noting. The asking price is still hard to swallow given other alternatives offer similarly spec products.
Christopher Jakubowski Cintiq is the leader in pen displays. Of course, there are cheaper alternatives.
It all comes down to what the individual can afford. If I were a struggling high school student, price would be my main priority...so I'd get Huion or XP Pen.
As you slowly become a pro, you invest in better quality tools. The alternatives aren't bad; they still get the job done. Cintiq simply does it a "little" better.
At the end of the day, we all place a priority on different things (price, parallax, screen size, hot keys, etc). Up to the individual.
3:30
You didn't compare it to other devices. Or actually critique it. Wacom is the leader but, what could they have done better or what was lacking?
Is the premium price truly worth it?
maddfit_sto1 if u want Cintiq quality, but can't afford their bigger screens (over $1000)....then this is a good deal.
Like u said, Cintiq is the "leader".
I guess I would compare it buying a Tahoe versus Escalade, whereas does the price increase warrant the cost. At the level of my opportunities. If it was a full time gig for me sure Cintiq Pro, tax write off anyway. But as a aspiring those funds could be used for something when, an XP could get me in the game and potentially later get what I want. I guess I answered my own quesiton there, haha. @@cartoonblock
I'm so broke I can't pay for this tablet.
I feel ya. I used to be broke too--LOL
"Affordable" and "wacom" can never go hand in hand...
LOL
still expensive to me Wacom feeling they are apple should be under 350 to 450$ also this kinda tech is around almost decades no minor improvement in technology and making of pc 800$ sometimes I feel pity for artist community also my self "Greedy Wacom"
As if there is anything justifying apple prices... XD But yeah- wacom is being greedy.
he forgot to mention that the express keys and stand are not included, don't be fooled
this didnt age very well IMHO. ipads with the extra cost of the pend Procreate are still 200 dollars less. its a no from me
Ehh $650 isn't really affordable.
gaiden012 maybe for un employed people
@@lowborn2764 Nah, nice try though.
Cintiqs are ussaly in the $1000 range.
So this is pretty good.
I make crap and even this is better than shelling out 2 grand for one. I will seriously consider getting one of these bad boys. I'm a freelancer so, I'll use it as a write off.
@@AlphaProto When you put it like that then yeah, it sounds affordable. I guess the title should have been "Affordable Wacom Cintiq 16" or something lol.

can you create animations on this tablet??
