  • Lisa Gade reviews Wacom’s first “affordable” 16” pen display, released in early 2018. The Cintiq 16 is $649 and it uses the same Wacom EMR technology and battery-less Pro Pen 2 with 8,192 pressure levels and tilt as the Cintiq Pro models. The pen monitor has a full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS display with near full sRGB coverage, virtually no parallax, silent operation and wide compatibility with art, 3D and photo editing programs that use Windows Ink and WinTab- Photoshop CC, Corel Painter, Adobe Illustrator, ZBrush, Clip Studio Paint and many more. This is Wacom’s answer to 16” pen displays from Huion, Ugee and XP-Pen for hobbyists and creators on a budget. It's compatible with Windows and Mac.

@@mobiletechreview I am too. :) I'm sold. It's a great entry-level pen display with Wacom's expected quality, and until I can afford and utilize 4k resolution with a Pro 24, it's going to be a great addition to my arsenal. I get to retire my old Intuos 5 and enter a whole new level of fun.

hey! so i borrowed one of these from my university for my animation program and i am pulling my hair out because no matter what i do, when i use this tablet with photoshop, photoshop instantly freezes....i know when i installed the most recent driver from the wacom website, and then i go to the wacom properties through the start menu, it claims the driver "does not support the tablet" and to upgrade to the most recent driver. it is already in the most recent driver. what am i doing wrong that my photoshop keeps freezing when i use this tablet with it? :( i wanted this tablet to pair with photoshop but its just not working
for context, i can run much heavier programs on the tablet, like tv paint, and it works fine. and photoshop works perfectly fine on my pc. its SOMETHING about the relationship between photoshop and my wacom cintq 16 inch. any ideas?

Straight question: as a Cintiq 13HD(bought it 5 years ago) user, is this new 16'' display good enough to justify an upgrade? I'd sell the old one to get the new model, so money-wise doen't look like a bad deal. The main factor is if both bigger screen size and the Pro Pen 2 experience are noticeable enough to go for it (I barely use the express keys)

Hello! Would this be a relatively significant update from the old Cintiq 13HD? Or if I want to see significant difference in drawing experience and quality, I should upgrade to 16 pro? Technically speaking, I'm willing to spend the big bucks on the Cintiq pro, but I want to know if it's worth it. 4K display is obviously better, but I do most of my color correction on my main monitor, which has a high color accuracy. The main thing that I'm looking for is the new pen, which as far as I know, doesn't work with my old Cintiq 13HD. And I want to get rid of the cable jungle that comes out of it. The big, thick cable on the side of Cintiq 13HD is really annoying.

I bought one a few weeks ago and have primarily been working in black and white, but last night I decided to color and found the color on my computer screen was looking much more saturated than what was on the tablet screen which made it hard to color pick. I know you recommended some free programs out there for artists, but I forgot the place you replied that info in...what do you recommend here? I was thinking of the surface pro, but the drawing area is not as large... However, since I could work without having to plug into another device, it may be better? I just hate how expensive they are. I do love the Wacom size, but since one has to plug it into another device...well, so much for relaxing while drawing!LOL Thanks once again for a great review. Hello Lisa, how much do you think of a step-up is this compare with the very old Cintiq 12wx? I've been using the 12wx for many years so I wanted an upgrade now, but don't know whether this model has the amount of improvement that's worth the investment, or I should really consider a major step-up and invest on the 22 (It's affordable but still a very very tight call for my budget that I wouldn't wanna push unless necessary).
One thing is I don't ever use the buttons on the 12wx so the 16 is completely fine without them. The screen of 12wx is definitely too small but still usable in my standard, but I don't know whether if 15.6 inches will see much of an improvement since I've yet to experience it myself.
Would be really appreciate if you can share your experience and thoughts on this.

I'm new too all this and I'm researching a bunch of tablets with screens. This one is about 15 inches in size but active space is only 13 inches; my MacBook Pro has a bigger active screen. I guess what I'm asking is, is it worth getting a tablet with a screen or should I stick with a regular Intuos?? I plan to work with photoshop and 3D modelling (Zbrush and Maya) if that helps with your opinions.

First of all, thanks for the throughout review.
How would you grade it compare to XP pen 22pro?
It’s said that XP 22pro have higher gamout ( 77-82% RGB) but in every review I’ve seen on UA-cam it break into pixels.
I’m considering buying either Cintiq 16 or Xp pro 22. They’re about the same price. No doubt the pen performance on Wacom top notch, but how about displaying and performance?
    I’m thankful for any answer!

I have a Cintiq Pro 27 which is awesome but need something for mobile work and do t want to spend a fortune. Had an older Cintiq Pro 16 but that link plus cord adapter drove me crazy. Flimsy and had to plug-in to many cables. Question. Since this Cintiq 16 is only HD res how would the mirroring be with a MacBook Pro 14? Can I keep the Macs display at 4K when using the HD Cintiq 16?
    Thx

I've really enjoyed working on a Cintiq 16, but after only 4 months my screen is covered in scratches. Every time I draw a line, a new scratch appears, no matter how light my touch is. It's all resulted in squeaking and a disturbed workflow... Does anybody know what my problem could be?

Lisa, I was going to purchase based on your review but then XP Pen announced the Artist 15.6 Pro with a laminated screen and pen tilt. This would seem to solve the parallax issue that you didn't like with the prior XP Pen offerings. It also appears much lighter than the Wacom and has a USB-C cable for a less cluttered wire situation. Are you planning on reviewing the Artist 15.6 Pro? Would love to know what you think before I take the plunge on one of them. Thanks again and I've been a long time reader/viewer!

I hope they release a 20 inch too! I'm fine with 1080p HD
