i always trust your reviews for big purchases. got the surface book to start my screen tablet journey based off your review 5 years ago, now i’m upgrading to a cintiq 16 based off this one :) thank you so much
I've just ordered one of these - i have tried all the others - Gaomon, Huion, Parblo, and XP-Pen - and I always felt that they were missing something. Your review has made me happy that I made the choice to go with the Cintiq 16 (not pro), and now I can't wait to start creating!
Wow, thank you very much! I was about to buy a Huion, but after seeing that, I'm going to buy me this new Cintiq. Plus, due to the fact that the ExpressKey remote is compatible with this model...oof! It's everything I need. Edit: Purchased and tested. Sweet tablet for drawing, but I still prefer Intuos for 3D stuff. I've been using both now.
Thank you for the review! I'm definitely late to the party, but with this I'm sold on going for the Cintiq 16 for my first device on transitioning to digital. Yeah, it's a bit much for a first time user, but I wanted to get something nice for myself too! :D
Huion is beginning to offer laminated etched glass models with same sensitivity and resolution, tilt-enabled and battery-less pens and stands included at about this price point.
Yeah, I currently have the Huion Kamvas 13. The etched glass and HD display are great. Also cheaper than the Cintiq 16. The only thing Wacom still has over the competition is the stylus. By that, I mean the functionality. We'll see how far that goes.
Really well done review with great info, I've been watching reviews to try and make my mind up on which brand/one to buy and now I'm going with the wacom cintiq 16 pro. So thank you for the great vid
Excellent review. XP-Pen is about to release one at the same size with laminated display, stand included, express keys and a new pen with tilt support. Why I would I want this? I've got no issues with the XP-Pen or Huion pen at all, they work fine. The parallax is as much as the alternatives. Others showed it up close and they all noticed it was quite apparent.
Wait really, holy shit, XP Pen sure is bomb! I will sure be checking it out if my Intous ever dies! XP Pen and Wacom are my favorite brands! Huion sucks though
I'll be posting a review of the wider gamut 16" XP-Pen Artist 16 Pro v2. I can tell you, having them all in-house, that the Wacom has significantly less parallax than most of the competition (I suspect the wide gamut laminated XP-Pen Artist 16 Pro v2 will do better than previous models though).
You would want this mainly because of the pro pen 2 (it's the best out there) and Wacom's software. I applause Wacom's endeavor into going cheaper, I never saw it coming.
Thank you very much for your review. I just started drawing as a hobby, and I have been trying to decide whether to buy Cintiq Pro 13 or Cintiq 16. Though I think I will be missing that multitouch zoom-in and zoom-out, I guess I can get used to what I have.
Awesome job! As an aspiring artist, this was super cool to see! Glad Wacom is FINALLY thinking about their not-so-rich buyers (even if I STILL think the price for this is high, lol)! That fanart(?) for a video game (I'm guessing Far Cry or something like that?) you made is INCREDIBLE, WOW!
And how long does this protective film last? When it gets so scratched you can no longer clearly see the screen and how much does the replacement film cost?
wacom should sell it at $500 I mean wothout stand and xpress key ... look at that thick bezzel omg ... yes pro pen 2 is the best ... but those is not made in Japan anymore, so they could be less greedy :D
Well, I'm quite sure for this price point it has by far the best pen experience you can get. Sure, the accessories for some of their competitor's products are better, but the quality of the drawing itself is unmatched in that price region.
I don't get why people care about express keys when you are better off just using your key board with your off hand. That way you have full access to all the shortcuts, and just more options.
been using my Wacom intuos 3 for years, finally decided to get with the times and check out these contraptions. I guess anything I get would blow my mind. LOL Ive been doing sketch books and scanners, so I think I will get this one as opposed to the $1500 pro. Thanks for review.
I have the Xp-pen 15.6 Pro and it is pretty awesome for the price. I got the Xp-pen 15.6 Pro last Xmas on offer, I think I got it for around £230. I am not convinced that paying twice the price for the wacom is going to give me twice the experience.
Thank you for another fantastic, in-depth, well-informed, and honest review. I'm on the fence. It is everything I want, but I frequently zoom and rotate, touch makes this easier. Will make a decision soon.
I want to see this tablet and others disassembled. Because no ones does that, even though that reveals some really important notes about build quality. Because performance is important, but so is the quality of the construction of the device. Like are they using cheap capacitors, do they proper attach imput ports to the board, and more. After all if you are spending hundreds of dollars on something, don't you want to know it will actually last?
Thank you for this review - coming from a fellow left hander! I just bought a Huion Kamvas Pro 13 and I am so disappointed with it (I've tried several methods to set it up for me to use left handed but all have failed) that I'll be returning it. Hopefully I can get hold of one of these instead! :)
I wish I had known this was coming out, I purchased a Cintiq Pro 13 in the black friday sales as I couldn't afford the 16. I also have a Huion but the drivers don't work with my PC and my macbook as the pen is always stuck on eraser with the huion. The cintiq pro 13 is only standard HD and this new 16 is also only HD but you benefit with larger screen size and cheaper price than the pro 13 :(. If I had known would defiantly have purchased this instead!
Lewis Gilbert well to cheer you up, with the 13 pro you get 1440p resolution on a smaller screen so the ppi count is higher. You get touch input so you can pinch zoom and rotate (a feature I use a lot), and can’t use on this product. If you are using a Mac the USB c cables mean less dongles action. I use software that needs usb dongles to work, I like to plug it into my Cintiq instead of computer, and the pro models let you do that. The pro models have no airgap, this one does. Although I see everyone generally giving positive reviews for this product, they did cut back a lot, and not sure how those out dated Calle solutions are actually cheaper? Wouldn’t a single usbC be cheaper for them in 2019?
I'm thinking about getting the 13HD version since they dropped the price now to $599.95. I really am trying to brush up on animation and digital painting. Since the 16 Cintiq sells the Express keys separately.
Not sure if you're still searching but many say that wacom may be more expensive but they're built to last and have a better history of lasting long. So pay for premium and get premium
Hi there I have a quick question Do you know if animation softwares are accessible on this model, since i'm not quite sure I couldn't find anything about it...maybe you know more?
one of early birds - i wanna ask tho how abt the visual / display capability or feels? since its ntsc nor rgb. and not to mention its lcd screen instead of led / ips
Hi Lisa, I do display art work for a nature centre, and have LONGED for a drawing pad that I can do my designs, colour set ups, designs for other people and work from home. I know you recommended some free programs out there for artists, but I forgot the place you replied that info in...what do you recommend here? I was thinking of the surface pro, but the drawing area is not as large... However, since I could work without having to plug into another device, it may be better? I just hate how expensive they are. I do love the Wacom size, but since one has to plug it into another device...well, so much for relaxing while drawing!LOL Thanks once again for a great review. I never buy anything any more without looking to see what you have to say about them!:) Nice to find reliable info on the web!! Cheers and have a great day!
Hi, do you recommend this on newbie digital artist? planning to buy my first drawing tablet and I can't decide weather its wacom cintiq 16 or XP Pen Artist 15.6 Pro
Hello Lisa, how much do you think of a step-up is this compare with the very old Cintiq 12wx? I've been using the 12wx for many years so I wanted an upgrade now, but don't know whether this model has the amount of improvement that's worth the investment, or I should really consider a major step-up and invest on the 22 (It's affordable but still a very very tight call for my budget that I wouldn't wanna push unless necessary). One thing is I don't ever use the buttons on the 12wx so the 16 is completely fine without them. The screen of 12wx is definitely too small but still usable in my standard, but I don't know whether if 15.6 inches will see much of an improvement since I've yet to experience it myself. Would be really appreciate if you can share your experience and thoughts on this.
Is this compatible with a Mac desktop running os 10.15 ? Is it compatible with iPads or MacBooks? I don't know anything about this world but trying to set up a station for my daughter's and budding artists Trying to decide between a Wacom setup or a iPad set up. There is so much information and options, it's overwhelming Thank you truly for your time. ❤️ Love that you are left handed.
Thanks! My Huion broke one month after purchase. I will be purchasing this Wacom now. My old Wacom lasted 15 years. I should have just stuck to a trusted brand.
@@honiahakaa I did! I love it! I've dropped the pen 3 times (I'm a klutz) and everything is still working fine! There are no calibration errors on the top and bottom 1 1/2" of screen like the huion. I do however miss the side buttons on the huion. But I think some of the other Wacom models have side buttons. This was the one I could afford though.
Any news on whether Wacom are going to bring out a budget model in the 20-24 inch range? I'd like a larger screen, but I can't really justify dropping 2k on a pro 24 as a hobbyist, and the current wacom alternatives in that range don't really appeal to me.
I really wonder that there is a white circle which is tracking pen movements, how can this possible, what is the technical detail, is this about a sensor or software ???
Gosh, I'd love to upgrade from my old Wacom Bamboo Pen&Touch but I would need to win that lottery. Maybe one day... I've tried going for a cheaper Chinese monitor/screen tablet but the distance between the pen and the screen where the lines showed up was so jarring that it was a huge disappointment and I returned it. :/ Sadly it seems like only Wacom knows how to make these in good quality. Thank you for the review! That's exactly what I needed. :)
Great review! I'm curious how easy switching which monitor(s) the tablet's drawing on is without express keys. I often want my stylus to map to my other two monitors between drawing tasks. I was also curious if there's a way to disable the Cintiq display without unplugging the HDMI cable in order to use it more like a standard tablet for more desktop type work.
I'm looking for a mid range drawing tablet that also has a 'tablet mode' function like the Cintiq Pro's. So you can use the tablet with the screen off like a standard tablet device and use the main monitors to review your work. Do the XP-PEN, Huion's or Cintiq 16 have this option?
Thank you for this. Very useful. I note that the Wacom site does not have any screen protectors for this model - well, I can't find any LOL. Hope my 2nd hand Cintiq 16 when it arrives next week does not need one 😁😁
hey! so i borrowed one of these from my university for my animation program and i am pulling my hair out because no matter what i do, when i use this tablet with photoshop, photoshop instantly freezes....i know when i installed the most recent driver from the wacom website, and then i go to the wacom properties through the start menu, it claims the driver "does not support the tablet" and to upgrade to the most recent driver. it is already in the most recent driver. what am i doing wrong that my photoshop keeps freezing when i use this tablet with it? :( i wanted this tablet to pair with photoshop but its just not working for context, i can run much heavier programs on the tablet, like tv paint, and it works fine. and photoshop works perfectly fine on my pc. its SOMETHING about the relationship between photoshop and my wacom cintq 16 inch. any ideas?
I was looking for a cheap one because I’m drawing on Procteate pocket on an Iphone 11 rn and it’s ok, but I want something that feels real and is still cheap so this is perfect
Hi Lisa, do you know if this screen is compatible with the felt nibs? I don’t like the feeling of drawing on “slippery glass” which I get with the standard nibs. In the Wacom Webpage, the felt nibs are not listed as accessoris for the Contiq 16 HD. On the other hand I see that you are using a white pointed nib, ist it a felt nib? Thank you
If you want a good tablet for cheap, look at ANY huion tablet. They have simular specs., ajustable stand, and they most cost less then 600 bucks. I got mine for 300. Yes, it has a screen.
Hello, may I ask how does this model compare with the old 12WX other than the bigger size? My old one just broke down and I'm looking for a newer but not too expensive model to replace it.
Lisa, I was going to purchase based on your review but then XP Pen announced the Artist 15.6 Pro with a laminated screen and pen tilt. This would seem to solve the parallax issue that you didn't like with the prior XP Pen offerings. It also appears much lighter than the Wacom and has a USB-C cable for a less cluttered wire situation. Are you planning on reviewing the Artist 15.6 Pro? Would love to know what you think before I take the plunge on one of them. Thanks again and I've been a long time reader/viewer!
Great review! With the Pro Pen 2 and little to no parallax, I’m leaning towards getting this tablet. I’m mostly going to be working in ToonBoom SB Pro, goodbye to working on my 1st gen iPad Pro through Astro pad.
I have a Cintiq Pro 27 which is awesome but need something for mobile work and do t want to spend a fortune. Had an older Cintiq Pro 16 but that link plus cord adapter drove me crazy. Flimsy and had to plug-in to many cables. Question. Since this Cintiq 16 is only HD res how would the mirroring be with a MacBook Pro 14? Can I keep the Macs display at 4K when using the HD Cintiq 16? Thx
Lisa, I saw the review for apple apps for drawing/painting, do you have one for windows computers at all? I would like to know what is your fav. draw paint program that is free? Any hits here? I can't download and try out a ton of them. So far, I have tried Inkscape, but hate it that it does not really have any brushes like GIMP , just that pen one that is a PAIN to use...thank you!:) And thanks for another great review, and looking into this one when our Canadian money gets back on track!LOL sheesh. Corvid 19 sure put a huge damper on buying things!!:(

Lisa why don't you go to CES???? Sorry maybe you've addressed this before.
I used to go every year, these days it's not as necessary thanks to the many pre-briefings from manufacturers that I attend.
Is this compatible with a Mac desktop running os 10.15 ?
Is it compatible with iPads or MacBooks?
I don't know anything about this world but trying to set up a station for my daughter's and budding artists
Trying to decide between a Wacom setup or a iPad set up. There is so much information and options, it's overwhelming
Thank you truly for your time. ❤️
Love that you are left handed.
Thanks! My Huion broke one month after purchase. I will be purchasing this Wacom now. My old Wacom lasted 15 years. I should have just stuck to a trusted brand.
did you get it? how did you like it?
@@honiahakaa I did! I love it! I've dropped the pen 3 times (I'm a klutz) and everything is still working fine! There are no calibration errors on the top and bottom 1 1/2" of screen like the huion. I do however miss the side buttons on the huion. But I think some of the other Wacom models have side buttons. This was the one I could afford though.
@@biomimiart good to hear that you're happy. and did you feel that the screen is bright?
@@honiahakaa no, you can adjust it
@@biomimiart Okay thanks and good luck
Any news on whether Wacom are going to bring out a budget model in the 20-24 inch range? I'd like a larger screen, but I can't really justify dropping 2k on a pro 24 as a hobbyist, and the current wacom alternatives in that range don't really appeal to me.
I really wonder that there is a white circle which is tracking pen movements, how can this possible, what is the technical detail, is this about a sensor or software ???
This lady knows her stuff. Loved the video.
I hope they release a 20 inch too! I'm fine with 1080p HD
What’s going on with other the Cintiq Pro 16? Just tried to order one and they are sold out. Any news on a new model coming???
Gosh, I'd love to upgrade from my old Wacom Bamboo Pen&Touch but I would need to win that lottery. Maybe one day... I've tried going for a cheaper Chinese monitor/screen tablet but the distance between the pen and the screen where the lines showed up was so jarring that it was a huge disappointment and I returned it. :/ Sadly it seems like only Wacom knows how to make these in good quality. Thank you for the review! That's exactly what I needed. :)
great videos as always!
I've found one of those for 240£ do you think is still good in 2022 and also for the price? thank you for your time🙂
Great review!
For using it with adobe illustrator pen tool, can I see the bezier curve hover before I click to make a point? If that makes any sense....
hey! so i borrowed one of these from my university for my animation program and i am pulling my hair out because no matter what i do, when i use this tablet with photoshop, photoshop instantly freezes....i know when i installed the most recent driver from the wacom website, and then i go to the wacom properties through the start menu, it claims the driver "does not support the tablet" and to upgrade to the most recent driver. it is already in the most recent driver. what am i doing wrong that my photoshop keeps freezing when i use this tablet with it? :( i wanted this tablet to pair with photoshop but its just not working
for context, i can run much heavier programs on the tablet, like tv paint, and it works fine. and photoshop works perfectly fine on my pc. its SOMETHING about the relationship between photoshop and my wacom cintq 16 inch. any ideas?
Now the question should I get this or the companion 2?
I wish we could power this with USB like every other drawing tablet on the market apart from wacom.
I was looking for a cheap one because I’m drawing on Procteate pocket on an Iphone 11 rn and it’s ok, but I want something that feels real and is still cheap so this is perfect
Thank you for the review very informative. Any advice for software and possibly starter book for my 16 year old son??
Hi Lisa, do you know if this screen is compatible with the felt nibs? I don’t like the feeling of drawing on “slippery glass” which I get with the standard nibs. In the Wacom Webpage, the felt nibs are not listed as accessoris for the Contiq 16 HD. On the other hand I see that you are using a white pointed nib, ist it a felt nib? Thank you
Can you remove the mouse that appears when you're using the pen?
Awesome... But I'm waiting for black Friday before I get this.
Considering I want to make high end prints of my art to sell would I be better off with the Pro?
argh, why not usb-c =(
Hello, a quick question. Is it possible to use the Kensington Stand to this tablet?
If you want a good tablet for cheap, look at ANY huion tablet. They have simular specs., ajustable stand, and they most cost less then 600 bucks. I got mine for 300. Yes, it has a screen.
Just recently bought an XP-Pen and it's better than the Wacom it replaced. Don't think it's really fair to crap on other brands not wacom.
Not fair because you don't have one? Lol
Hi Lisa, What do you think of the Wacom Cintiq 22HD? Although it's been around for a while, do you think it is still relevant and/or worth buying?
The image looks a bit dark, it is the brightness? and the colors are accurate?
Great review! With the Pro Pen 2 and little to no parallax, I’m leaning towards getting this tablet. I’m mostly going to be working in ToonBoom SB Pro, goodbye to working on my 1st gen iPad Pro through Astro pad.
great detailed review, im glad wacom decided to make an affordable option
Corvid 19 sure put a huge damper on buying things!!:(
EXCELLENT review, thanks so much.
