Judith Durham had such a powerful, haunting and enchanting voice that to my mind she was one of the best female singers of the 60’s! I still love listening to these records. As an amateur guitarist, and although I am the first to admit Judith Durham's vocal qualities, I now want to point out the quality of playing a 12 string guitar not just by strumming chords: this performance shows once more that this type of guitar is perfectly suitable for some damn catchy fingerpicking work, a role many musicians tend to reserve for the 6 strings.

It looks and sounds as though they were actually singing and playing their own instruments (except for Judith's tambourine), but they were being augmented by a studio orchestra somewhere off stage. It was commonly done in those days. Nowadays pop singers don't even pretend to play. They just grab a mike and the music emanates from some backstage synthesizer. Also of course modern singers are filtered through Autotune and other devices to make their voices sound perfect. Plastic, is more like it.
