I started on an R6 and IMO its a good bike to start on bc it has little power if you keep the RPM's low. Its a very tame bike at low rev's then a monster above 10k RPM's.
My first bike was an 03 R6 brand new. Never ridden one before and left the shop in the rain👍🏼 best choice I could’ve made and it still runs looks great 20 years later. Don’t ride over your head and take your time learning speed. Ask for advice cuz bikers are usually willing to give it up
Nice to hear 👏 just bought my first bike, 2006 R6. Took MSF using a Honda Rebel.. quite different power lol. I’ve spent the first two days playing with neutral and first 😂
The unique powerband of the R6 will never get old. It's like the ultimate VTEC. To be honest for me there's more than enough power on the lower end to just commute. It could be a bit more useful on hill starts but honestly it has more than enough power. Now on to the powerband. When I first started pulling hard after breaking it in I would pull up to 12k RPM and thought wow this is insane. Once I started hitting 13-14kRPM that's when I instantly knew what everybody meant. It really does feel like turbo lag. The amount of power that the bike unleashes at those RPMs is just insane. It feels like you have a rocket propelling you and you're entering warp speed. There's just nothing like it in the 600 class I feel like.
I mean I had an R6 for my first bike... Yes the clutch out and all was kind of hard to get the hang of initially... But not having alot of low end torque can be good for a new rider... I think if your gonna get a Supersport it's the best one to start with.
I’ve had An R1 and a CBR600rr and currently an R6 I suggest the Honda for sure as a super sport starter much better power delivery for someone learning the clutch better seat position and the small things like a gas gauge are necessary sometimes for the beginner rider now I’m not saying R6 is a bad bike just Honda is better for beginners I believe
No matter how many times I hear don't start on this bike, if you want it, you're gonna do it anyway. It's like asking for advice when you've already made up your mind. Sweet video 👌🏼
r6= negligible bottom end.... lame midrange, and wild top end. that forces you to get to the top end to have any discernable fun.... which is too fast for most road use and just leaves disappointment until you get there. probably a great track bike but an utterly crap street bike requiring ballerina gearshift skills (eg 3 cogs down from cruising) to make the thing wake up.... and then upshift back into gutless territory when you're done. I hated it.... but loved it when I got angry and strangled it? I completely agree with Shaun.
I have owned this bike for about 3.5 years now and I love her like crazy. This was my first bike and my only transportation as well. I ride her everyday rain or shine. Just go for whatever bike you personally like aesthetically and mechanically. You can't go wrong with any Japanese bike but the last thing I'd say is why you don't want this bike. If anything I heard you say way more positives about the bike than negatives so that's awesome! XD
My 08 r6 is my first bike, this is my 3rd season with it. Amazing experience everytime I ride it edit: 2024 and still going strong, -1 +2 sprockets and still having a blast
My first bike was an R6, and I would argue it's a really good starter bike. Having no power in the low bands makes it easy to control. It's weak except when you actually want to push it and rev a little more. It doesn't get out of control. I now ride an FZ1, and I do enjoy the broader power distribution.
Semko K bigger sprockets on back, smaller on front, which is what this guy did. It limits the top speed of the bike but gives it more torque, which helps acceleration
Currently in school for motorcycle mechanics. Depending on the ambient temperature if you let your bike sit for more than 15 seconds idling you're not hurting or harming it.
Don't leave your bike with low gas at the end of day. Sometimes depending on outside temperature the empty space in the fuel tank might build up some moisture which causes to not start up right away .
I own a 2018 R6 and love it, however, Just bought the wife 19 GSXR 600. I prefer her bike on the street hands down. More fun overall, And better on longer trips due to ergonomics. I'm torn.
I have the 2008. It's amazing. Bottom end gutless. Top end is nuts. Great brakes. Handles nice. Very stable at high speed. Sometimes people say you got a headlight out, lol. Also if your under 5'10 then it's hard to touch the ground. I'm 5'11 and it's only just okay for me. If your over 90kg get a bike with more torque. Don't buy if your a learner. Get an r3 first. 9/10 bike. Doesn't have any tcs rider modes etc. If it had more torque under 10K it would be a 10/10. Oh yeah no gear indicator and no fuel gauge is so annoying. It does have an empty warning light though
The adjustable stacks just allow more air velocity at lower rpm so the fuel mixes better with the air making a better and stringer combustion... Then the stacks shorten when you're at height rpm cuz it needs more air volume so the shorter the stack the more air volume is accessible, it doesn't need the added height cuz the velocity increases with rpm... I feel like I just beat a dead horse a little bit but you get it
I had an SV650 as my first bike, got an '03 R6 a few days ago as my second bike. My only complaint is the seat could be a bit more cushioning, as I go on long rides and commutes, but other than that I am absolutely in love. The riding position is aggressive but once on you're on the highway the bike feels at home and it cruises around no problem. Hard to stay off the throttle!
I agree that it's not a good first bike though. I don't think I would've made it home with the R6 had I not had experience on the SV. It was certainly a different ball game but the basics and even some of the finer details of riding I learned from the SV helped so much with riding the R6. I'll admit I was a bit scared I would lay it down when I test rode it, but here I am a few hundred miles later getting comfortable with the bike finally (but not overly confident; I know my limits).
If you want a more steetable bike with low end torque then you dont want a supersport at all!! You get more low end with 1000cc superbikes but thats not a smart decision if you just want low end. Get a 650 thats made for more low and mid range.. plus the 650s are typically more comfortable
MonstaFreak13 eh I went straight from a ninja 250 to a naked sv1000. Took a little bit but I can go through twisties just fine and through the city it has INSANE torque

@@beatsbybrandon902 that's the people who really like and buy these bikes though lol when I was 17 I was set on getting a r6 raven and just being smart and keep the revs below 10k but even if you're responsible bikes like that just give you a false sense of confidence and you end up going past your limits as a new rider
i think the lack of low end is why the r7 is coming out with the mt07 engine. Yamaha realized so few people actually use the power at the top end it makes sense to sacrifice top end for a lot more low.
My bike starts just like boom 💥 as soon as you press the ignition button, zip zip boom. Runs very well !! Best to let your bike run for a Minuit or two before you pull off.... myn tends to be a bit cloggy if I pull straight away after not riding for a good amount of time. Lol I watched this video when I thought I wanted a R6. After watching a bunch of R6 videos, I quickly realized that I didn’t want a R6. The bike I wanted was the one that I got. A ZX6R. Much more “streetable”, much cheaper, and much more low key. No one owns 636’s. I go on group rides and everyone is rocking GSXR’s and R6. Makes me feel a bit more unique. Granted a Gixxer or R6 would smoke my ZX6R flat out, but I don’t care because I don’t ride like that. My bikes makes great sounds, spits out flames, and I think is the best Loki g out of all the 600’s (2014 ZX6R with the white and black livery).
The used r6 market is still pretty high compared to other bikes, I got a yzf600r a couple years ago on a deal and although it's a bit heavier it's been a great bike

when riding a sport bike you clench your legs and hold yourself up that way. Floating your hands over the controls... dont blame the bike for your lack of experience ;)
my 02 SV650S still puts them to shame off the line.. They still don't have the low end torque a V-twin does ... Sprockets don't fix low end torque that much
I started on an R6, that was the case for me. Lower in the RPMs is really tame, 8-10k is when it starts to get rowdy. I stayed around 4-6k in the beginning and was easy to learn on.
So I was thinking about getting a R6 possibly a R1... I rode my friends FZ6R last riding season and did great for my 1st time on a bike. But now I want my own. So...... Should I get either of those bikes or something else?
can anyone tell me why it struggles to start up? Mine does the same no matter cold or warm, like if I stop for gas it will still struggle to start up. Most of the time it will keep cranking then i give it gas and it revs then dies just like his. Always eventually starts up but takes awhile and its annoying/embarrassing.

simply flashing the ecu can't change the power completely through all the rev ranges a tuner can make a map so it has more power in certain areas but you can;t jsut chose to have max smooth power everywhere
@@Toymonkeyjr did you read my comment at all? When you flash a ecu you put a different map on there wich can give you more power throughout all the rev ranges. I've been flashing my own ecu's for a while now. What do you think these tuners do with their maps? The 'flash' it on the ecu. Increases torque, increases bhp, increases overall power from low to high revs 😉. I never said max power, i said all power throughout the rev ranges, as in all available power. Peace 🤙
As cool a dude as you are I don't think I'd want to buy a bike from you considering you don't seem to warm them up before driving off on them as evidenced by the fast idle on that R6 sticking at 2k RPM before coming down when it's getting closer to operating temperature.

My first bike is a 2004 Yamaha YZF-R6, and I don’t regret it period, just because you have a 600 means you have to ride like one, I couldn’t see my self being able to afford switching from a 250 or a 400 to a 600 so I went straight for the 600cc
I can get you a nice deal on some Kevlar-lined gloves....
Haha... Savage
Deal is 100 or under.
Wya
Lmfao i was thinking the same thing
I started on an R6 and IMO its a good bike to start on bc it has little power if you keep the RPM's low. Its a very tame bike at low rev's then a monster above 10k RPM's.
Oddly, every bike you say "dont buy" or "you shouldnt buy" I want badly.
Steve Rivera right!! Haha
This vid in a nutshell. This bike sucks... But other than that it's a great bike!
Video in a nutshell. "Normal riding. Boring, sucks. Anything outside that, great bike." 🤔

There's just nothing like it in the 600 class I feel like.
is the consumption disgusting when used for town commuting?
@@manbiteslife3110it's pretty good at saving fuel. But commuting this bike at low speed is the second last thing you want to do on this bike.

I mean I had an R6 for my first bike... Yes the clutch out and all was kind of hard to get the hang of initially... But not having alot of low end torque can be good for a new rider... I think if your gonna get a Supersport it's the best one to start with.
Idiot
I’ve had An R1 and a CBR600rr and currently an R6 I suggest the Honda for sure as a super sport starter much better power delivery for someone learning the clutch better seat position and the small things like a gas gauge are necessary sometimes for the beginner rider now I’m not saying R6 is a bad bike just Honda is better for beginners I believe

@@themaestro2209 it's a bit of a pain in the ass in the first days, but, with time, you can use it...
Mohamed Mesbah it’s transportation just like any other 600cc maybe with a little less low end torque, my yzfr6 was great for commuting in town
I like how this guy keeps contradicting himself throughout the video
Pretty much. And is also clickbait from the title
r6= negligible bottom end.... lame midrange, and wild top end. that forces you to get to the top end to have any discernable fun.... which is too fast for most road use and just leaves disappointment until you get there. probably a great track bike but an utterly crap street bike requiring ballerina gearshift skills (eg 3 cogs down from cruising) to make the thing wake up.... and then upshift back into gutless territory when you're done.
XD
I’ll never stop loving how Shawn says, “YAMAHAAAAWW” not Yamaha, Yamahhaaww. Never change Shawn, never change . Miss this era of SRK cycles
My 08 r6 is my first bike, this is my 3rd season with it. Amazing experience everytime I ride it
edit: 2024 and still going strong, -1 +2 sprockets and still having a blast
Kudos for keeping your R6 all these years, that's awesome!! :)
I think Yamaha does that so people don’t flip over😂
Yup, but then they made the FZ-09/MT-09 and they made it so people could actually flip over
@@matojxr1 you could already do that with the R1
The R6S is the earlier version R6 which is a good bike, Yamaha kept it for a few years to have a cheaper 600 in the line up.
My first bike was an R6, and I would argue it's a really good starter bike. Having no power in the low bands makes it easy to control. It's weak except when you actually want to push it and rev a little more. It doesn't get out of control. I now ride an FZ1, and I do enjoy the broader power distribution.
Thank you

-1 front +2 rear sprockets will make any 600 better, unless you want to go fast in a straight line
Agreed, I went -1 on the front sprocket of my zx9r and its awesome on curvy roads but straight line top end not so much.
Just did this to my FZ6. Has an 03 R6 engine in it and it's a world of difference
lucky seven I ride my dads zx9r , and he said he changed he sprockets for better acceleration. Which ones would that be
Semko K bigger sprockets on back, smaller on front, which is what this guy did. It limits the top speed of the bike but gives it more torque, which helps acceleration
IMTHEDARKNIGHT - oh ok ty
Sounds good, but the whole thing about wanting some low end power is certainly right, and dragging knee won't kill you if you learn to do it, in time.
Cold started and just driven off.......bike will never produce it's power properly......
I always let my baby warm up to 140 before leaving
Currently in school for motorcycle mechanics. Depending on the ambient temperature if you let your bike sit for more than 15 seconds idling you're not hurting or harming it.
Warmup should be for 2 to 3 min... depending on engine capacity...once it idle normal... it's good to go.....
Ypu never warm a bike, go read a manual
@@iinsomniacz always warm up ....let the oil circulate...... throughout the engine ....
I feel like I just beat a dead horse a little bit but you get it
actually... you have it completely backwards.
No warming up the bike before revving?
I have a 2013 R6. Got it brand new when I was 19. First bike. Absolutely love it. I don't ride as much as I used to though sadly..

Great motovlog man. I randomly watched this during a pit stop and loved it. I actually watched the entire video.
R6 and R1 are nearly identical speed and time up until 140 mph, not many 600 cc’s that can hang that close with a 1,000
Uhh no lol the minute you hit 2nd the r1 pulls away like it's nothing
why wasn't the bike starting at the beginning?
The R6 was my 1st bike I ever got and I still love it today. Would not trade it unless getting an R1
@Rays Through Trees, Summer Breeze not very good I bet
Took a little bit but I can go through twisties just fine and through the city it has INSANE torque

i think the lack of low end is why the r7 is coming out with the mt07 engine. Yamaha realized so few people actually use the power at the top end it makes sense to sacrifice top end for a lot more low.
Hi Josh, what type of inspections do you guys do on your bikes to make sure they are mechanically sound before the sale?
My bike starts just like boom 💥 as soon as you press the ignition button, zip zip boom. Runs very well !! Best to let your bike run for a Minuit or two before you pull off.... myn tends to be a bit cloggy if I pull straight away after not riding for a good amount of time. Speed doesn’t really excite me, I like to ride slow and mellow... as long as you can get the speed limits.. your good to go 👍🏼 My yamaha: Only done 4.9k, Digital speedometer, ABS, gold DID chain, new tyres, newly and fully serviced, full Remus exaughst system although it could do you a new pipe since it’s a bit rust and old... upside down gold forks... Runs and sounds good 😌👌🏼
Same I have to let my bike sit for atleast 3mins before riding off due to that lag feel
For me this bike got everything i need. It drives better at the high rpm's but that's just what this bike is for i also drove the R1 but i liked the smaller R6 more i don't have to go fast to enjoy the bike so the R6 is a winner.

Should a 17 year old have an r6? I’m 15 and have ridden off-road for 4 years. When I’m 16 I’m getting a job and grinding so when I’m 17 or 18 I can get a bike.
Your 636 would smoke an r6 what do u mean
facts, it would really dust all other 600s the gsxr and r6 would give it a run but its really the best 600
The used r6 market is still pretty high compared to other bikes, I got a yzf600r a couple years ago on a deal and although it's a bit heavier it's been a great bike
Where's ya protective gear

when riding a sport bike you clench your legs and hold yourself up that way. Floating your hands over the controls... dont blame the bike for your lack of experience ;)
Neil Williams not blaming the bike, just saying that the riding position of the r6 wasn’t as comfortable to me as the mt09
Oh wow! That’s some pretty interesting information, and thanks for sharing.

Sprockets don't fix low end torque that much
I love the powerband, it makes it ride like a moped at low rpm then the second you get over around 5.5k sheesh
This is actually the bike I’m starting with, so maybe that low power under 4K rpm will be a good safety net.
I started on an R6, that was the case for me. Lower in the RPMs is really tame, 8-10k is when it starts to get rowdy. I stayed around 4-6k in the beginning and was easy to learn on.

Why don't you just flash the ecu and unlock all the power throughout all rev ranges?
It's got an inline 4 engine man. They all do be like that
simply flashing the ecu can't change the power completely through all the rev ranges a tuner can make a map so it has more power in certain areas but you can;t jsut chose to have max smooth power everywhere
@@Toymonkeyjr did you read my comment at all? When you flash a ecu you put a different map on there wich can give you more power throughout all the rev ranges.
