Screwdriver restoration | 3D HDR Sound Relaxation

- The old rusty screwdriver is quickly dismantled, because with the multifunction tool only two bolts need to be ground and knocked out. In this project, the focus is on machining with files and sandpaper (different grits).
Please also note that this video is not only to quickly show someone how something works, but also to relax and unwind from everyday life!
------------------------------------------------------------
▶ What did I do ?! ◀
The antique screwdriver was not in very bad condition, which made this restoration very easy. After I dismantled the wooden handle with the help of a multifunction tool, the screwdriver was soaked in rust remover for a day. Then it was brought back into shape with files and sandpaper. The tip of the screwdriver was hardened. Finally, the antique screwdriver was polished on the polishing stand, my favorite task ;). The new handle is made of beech wood and was fitted exactly. With two bolts made of brass, which I made on the lathe, the handle was connected to the screwdriver.
------------------------------------------------------------
▶ Good to know ◀
I used the following tools: Multifunctional tool, pin punch, hammer, rust remover, files, sandpaper (different grit), cordless screwdriver, drill, pen, belt sander, linseed oil varnish, soldering torch, oil, polishing stand, polishing paste, lathe, brass, lathe chisel, saw

*_There's just something magical about watching something that was so old and broken being restored back to looking so new. Its such a thing to watch. ❤_*
Thank you very much! 🐢
Beautiful both ways. I love the old for its patina and it’s character. And I love the new for its restored life and beauty.
Couple of thoughts: Firstly I know many will disagree with me when I say that as a huge fan of Evap-o-rust solution to soak rusty tools and parts in, I wish I saw it used more often than sandblasters or electrolysis. I love that good ol' fashioned rust removing solution!
Secondly, I love these old wooden handled tools! The question people should ask is not "Why did they use wooden handles for tools?" so much as "WHY did they stop!?".
Thanks for a perfect restoration!!
Thanks for your great feedback!🐢 It also always depends on how much an object is rusted, objects in rust remover I usually do only with weakly rusted things. The rust remover works very well too though.... 🤩Nowadays no one makes the effort to make a wooden handle, dipping in plastic is much faster and better with a machine ...😔🐢
Price is why they stopped.
Easier and cheaper to form fiberglass (hammer handles and the sort), or use a tube dipped in rubber.
Now, a steel tube is more durable, but god does it feel awful.
I love my wooden handle tools, and make my own whenever I can.
I appreciate the rehabilitation of a still-useful tool. However, I was a disturbed by the waste of the linseed oil--a teaspoon would have been sufficient. A philosophical disconnect there...
Easy on the turtle!
Wonderful audio as always, very nice video. It's nice to see something simple sometimes like this, and enjoy watching the pieces come together. The wood matching into the grooves was extra satisfying.
Also, the kids approve, as always, of more turtle brush. ^_^
Thanks a lot for your great comment! 🤩🐢
Wow that’s a piece of art I wouldn’t even wanna use it
Thank you very much! 🐢
wie immer sehr cool !😲 süße Schildkröte 😊
Vielen Dank! 🐢
@@ForgottenShineRestoration bist du aus Deutschland?
Out of curiosity, do you use the tools after you restore them? Or are they displayed as a job well done
I would say both... 😅🐢
That burr was not created by hammering, I’ve restored paint scrapers with that design.
Yeah, that was weird he filed it off.
I agree somewhat with what your saying that casting/forging of certain tool's tangs have a raised/thickened edge in certain locations.
Even some with specific hammer striking areas like chisels. However, IMHO, at about the 14 second mark with the view of the end of the screwdriver handle while in the vise it appears to be a burred areas from hammering and the wood portion is flattened as well. It's more prominent on the one side and it has small splits/cracking on the edge of the more prominent burr which can be seen even better just before he files it later in the video.
You can still see after filing the thicker areas of the tang's casting/forging toward it's edges and end.
That “burr” is part of the original design. Too bad he filed it off.
dont you have to temper the metal after you harden it?
Great! 👍 cool! 😎😎
Thank you! 🐢
Keren sekali, baru kali ini melihat obeng medel seperti ini
O melhor. Posta mais vídeos pra gente. Sua organização é incrível 🇧🇷
Muito obrigado! 🐢
Pěkná práce při restaurování.❤ Pavel 🇨🇿

Vielen Dank 👍🐢
Great Work ❤️
Thank you very much! 🐢
Thumbs up for the Turtle! 😂
🤩🐢
It's like Extreme Makeover for old and rusty items 😄
Thank you for your 15 minutes
I love watching restoration while I’m fasting
What a perfect screwdriver!
Thank you! 🐢
Richtig guter Sound!
Sehr gute Arbeit.
By the big dent on the wooden handle scale... that's how...
Nice work. However, you missed a step. After heating the tip and dipping in oil you must temper it in an oven or it will be hard, but brittle.
Thats true... 👍🐢
perfect. wonderful work. 🔨⛏️🔩🛠️🔧⚒️👍
Thanks a lot! 🐢
Irwin screwdriver?
satisfying :)
9:34 best shot very cinematic
Quick question. Would a spokeshave or plane be a better tool for rounding off the handle? Using a rasp seems to be a longer process and more of an issue regarding the really fine sawdust that gets everywhere even after you vacuum and sweep
What is a spokeshave?
I think this does not work very well because the handle is very small and consists only of curves. A plane is rather something for straight surfaces...🐢
@1:07 😂😂
🤣🐢
Where do you get rusty things ?
Amazing work 👍👍👍
Thank you very much! 🤩 🐢

I want to contact with you how it is possible
Super Ergebnis ! Deutsche Wertarbeit vom Feinsten !
I love it !

hey, FS. What was the rust remover solution you used?
My rust remover is "Rost io", it's great and dissolves the rust very well 🐢
@@ForgottenShineRestoration Thanks!
🔝 🇧🇷 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I've a sword for restoration
It sure looks like an Irwin screwdriver.
If it is it would have Irwin stamped on the shaft.
Irwin made reproductions of their iconic screwdriver. It came in two sizes.
And no, they did not have special hardened seasoned tips.
The entire shaft went into the furnace in batches of hundreds.
The furnace was a big revolving cage that would revolve about 1 RPM over gas flames.
When all the screwdrivers or whatever glowed red they would dump them into a big steel basket on a crane. Then quickly swung over to a vat of oil and lowered quickly into the oil. If they lowered it slowly, or if the pieces were white hot it would set the surface of the oil on fire.
If it was bad it would set the roof on fire. The fire department was called to put out the roof.
The heat treat department seldom had a roof. Because every time they’d fix it they’d set it on fire again. They liked it better without a roof because it got so hot in there.
I worked there before Irwin sold out to Stanley and left town.
Very interesting! Thanks for the insight 🤩🐢
I WOULD GUESS A GERMAN MADE TOOL?
Yes, that could be...🐢
1:01 you do know that you can do that without grinding the head right?
Please reply me thanks
funny turtle :v
🤣😅🤩🐢
Did you fil this in slow motion?
Not relaxing for me. The filing is something that I must turn the sound off for. Doesn't stop me from enjoying your work though. 🙂
Thank you.. 💪🤩🐢
That was not hot enough to harden it.
And it was likely hardened properly when it was made.
Unusable, the bit will twist when you go to use it.
At the very end of the blow of the hammer fell on the handle, a dent is slightly visible.
But we are not machines, anything can happen. Good job!
Thank you very much! 💪🐢
The tip was already hardened! You ruined it!
Sklamem ŤA , nebudem Ťa chváliť. Prečo ? Lebo z Tvojho videa som nedostal odpovede ktoré som čakal. Mal som ten istý skrutkovač. Sekal som i ním nity, zvary / opravoval som pred rokmi karosérie/.
U ddnt cut the wood b4 you shaved it...waste of time...and then u used the belt sander after...so why use the hand wood file
1:16 obviously you don’t!
chipset
Nice work… but forget the childish and not funny turtle.
3:56 creepy and stupid!
The faces on turtle always get me
🤣🤣👍🐢
Changing the design to make it easier 😅😮
A 16 minute same video on restoring and of screwdriver. This is entertainment? I think not.
I'm new subscriber..Nice to look your video n good handjobs👍
Thank you and welcome! 🐢
Wonderful work!
Thank you very much! 🤩🐢
