  • In this video, I restored a rusty Skilsaw into a collector's item that you can win! The journey of this restoration began a few months ago when I was approached by SKIL Europe. In celebration of their 100th anniversary in March of this year, they requested that I restore a tool for them. They presented me with several old tools from their storage, and I chose to restore a circular saw. This choice was inspired by the fact that the story of SKIL began 100 years ago with the invention of the circular saw. For those interested in its history, I’ll include a link to the SKIL Europe website: www.skileurope....
    The restoration process was challenging, involving numerous parts to refurbish. Some parts were missing and required me to fabricate new ones. The pressure was significant, as the restored tool needed to be sent back to SKIL Europe for presentation. This circular saw will be showcased at the EISENWARENMESSE - INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE FAIR 2024, which takes place from March 3-6, 2024, in Cologne, Germany. If you're interested in seeing this Skilsaw or visiting their booth, I encourage you to do so.
    The stakes of the restoration were high, as SKIL plans to gift this tool to a lucky winner, necessitating a flawless finish. For those interested in entering the giveaway and signing up for their newsletter, here’s the link: winwithskil.co....
    That's all for today dear viewers , I hope you enjoy this restoration video ! Cheers , David !

    Wow! Giving an old tool new life is worth it's weight in gold. I restored my dad's very old Craftsman 3/8's drill. It didn't compare to today's tools but my making it new again brought my dad to tears as his father gave it to him as a Xmas gift 80 years ago. I made a stand for it so he could keep it in a holster. Plus I put on a new Jacob's chuck so if he needed to change a bit it was too easy. He kept it near the garage door on the cart, which I added an extension cord to. If he ever needed power near his rides, it was right there.

    I've seen comments about how proud you must be, that Skil asked you to restore a tool....
    ... Respectfully, I think it's the other way around. Skil should feel lucky that you accepted the request.
    Those one-off knives for the handle are OVER-THE-TOP cool!! You are very impressive, sir! This thing looks fantastic!

    The blade guard bumper should be made of hard rubber. The one that you made out of plastic will split or shatter pretty soon, especially after numerous hits from the guard and/or when it's very cold. Other than the bumper I think you did a great job!

    • @CoolAgainRestoration
      @CoolAgainRestoration  7 місяців тому +1

      The plastic I use it in making that bumper is very soft and malleable, probably has a little bit of rubber in it . It required a special lathe knife tool for turning and probably will be good for the reason I make it , being different than usual plastic who all know . But anyway , the tool is made just for display . I don’t know if the winner of this tool will want to use it again

    • @dac9500
      @dac9500 7 місяців тому

      @@CoolAgainRestoration Yes, I thought about it after I looked closely at that segment of the video again. I could tell by the shavings on the lathe that there had to be some elasticity to the plastic compound that you used. And you're right, it's for display only so it won't need to stand up to the rigors of a well used saw. Being a carpenter by trade I thought that I saw potential problem that maybe needed to be addressed. But you did a fantastic job! Thanks for getting back to me.
