- Homemade Farm Jack LOG LIFTER. Come on and check out the new farm jack modification I made to help me lift logs for skidding. It works. Fell a tree, log it, and skid it. #loglifter #homestead #smallfarm

Cool toys. Wish I had so many trees.
Wow! That is so cool. Worked very well.
I was surprised but happy it worked 🥂
Someone once said necessity is the mother of invention. Well done!
As someone who wears the scars and witnessed others fate from many years of using a jack-all, respect them and be very aware of pinched fingers and handle cracked elbows!
Having the right tools makes a huge difference. Safety and less effort when tools of the job are deployed.👍😎
Absolutely
Howdy from west Texas!
Hey ya 👋
Did enjoy it. Thanks
Awesome 👏
Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Yay! How cool!
🤙
Morning Chad. Seems like winter will never end there. Have a great day. Stay safe with those logs.
Yes this snow is taking too long to melt but it’s mud season now too 😝
You probably already figured it out about using the jack on soft ground, but if you use a wide base, like the one that you made with the screws in the video, your jack shouldn't sink. Be careful though because it might tilt. I made one out of two sheets of 1 inch plywood glued and screwed together. I ended up putting a carry strap on it made from rope. Farm jack are amazing! They make a lot of attachments for them. I drive a full size SUV, it doesn't have attachment points for a farm jack, but they make a strap that attaches to the tire rim so you can lift it from there. Once when hunting alone, it rained pretty hard while I was in the stand. As soon as I got back to my vehicle and put it into gear I sunk my Sequoia to the frame. I jacked up each wheel and put cut brush under them and managed to free myself. I carry 4 foot sections of rugged plastic treads now, just in case. But I love my farm jack! I pull T posts all the time, plus 4x4 fence posts, and even shrubs and small trees. You can use it to spread things, or clamp things, and even as a make shift winch. I used it once as a press to bend some metal into a shape I needed.
I just had the idea of sliding a cable under the log and wrapping it around the jack. Then you don't have to grind the jack.
Well done Chad. Now you wear another hat 'a lumberjack hat, Well done". Do me a favour, please if you have anymore videos with snow, please colour the snow green. It is April the 3 rd, I can't take anymore snow, even in a video 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Good job 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Be safe 🇨🇦
Haha it’s melting slowly but mud season is here too so a bit of brown before we get green. 😆
Very cool. I love those jacks, but a feller has to be careful using them. If they slip out of your hand they can hit you under the chin. Don't ask me how I know this. I ain't lying through my tooth neither.
Nice idea.
Yes sir necessity is mother of invention
I was so pleased that it worked fairly well too
Hah! You have zipped up to 80,000! Love watching you create easier methods of doing heavy stuff. Husband and I are considerably older than you and working smarter on our acreage is very important:)
Yes, now I just gotta keep viewers interested. Once the nicer weather it’ll be fun to get the garden going to see what we can grow this year. 😉Thanks a million.
very resourceful you are!
Aww thanks 🙏
Math wins ! Chad wins! I think you are really going to enjoy this Mr Lumberjack ⛓️⚒️
Yeah, I’m loving it 😎
Hidden Spring Farm, I love watching your videos about your Farm and your Animals... You and your wife have done a wonderful job building your Farm and planting your Garden and the Trees, and I love your Cats and the Sheepdogs, and enjoy seeing you care for all your "Farm Animals." I am also very impressed with your self-taught abilities and all the neat "Animal Houses" you've built for your Farm Animals. Your "Chicken Coop" is so neat. And it truly amazes me how much fun you have working your Farm, and cutting down your trees, etc. Pet all the Cats (Fozzy Bear, Maggie May, Chunk, Dexter, Tango, Mango, Bubbles and Chewy), and Molly and Olive, for me. I like the "Duckies," and Rabbits, too. My Mother was raised up on a Farm (so she told me all about how early she had to get up to milk the cows "so they could have milk for their cereal," and how she had to collect the Chicken's Eggs, too. She said she didn't like killing the chickens for food, but her father said she had to or else they wouldn't eat. I'm an "Avid Genealogist," and have learned that most of my Ancestors and Relatives were all hard working "FARMERS," so I give all "FARMERS" lots of credit for all the hard work they do to run their FARMS and take care of all their ANIMALS, and their CROP and GARDENS. God Bless!!!
That jack you made, maybe others might want one.yur quiet an engineer😊good logging man you are.❤
Thanks a million, I’m happy if someone can get ideas, means I did something right 🤪
Thanks
Chad, you should use that one for firewood and look for a better straight log,
Yeah I kept all the straight logs, the rest bucked for firewood. I got a 16’ a 10’ and an 8’
Awesome idea, i have one at home but im just gonna cut a notch out in the log so i dont sacrafice my kangaroo kack
I think every farm boy who watches your video has flash backs of being initiated by their Hi-Lift style farm jacks.
I also use mine to turn the log on the sawmill
What a Fun Day!!! What is the temperature? Looks really nice out and it is so beautiful out there in the country!! I could even handle being out there and enjoying myself!! Have a Great Week!! 🤗♥️🙏🏼
Aww thanks, it’s getting warmer but not warm enough that the snow is gone. Lots of mud these days…sheepdogs and mud don’t mix 😆
Chad this guy built just what you need, Check out his channel......Log Arch Build.....(Tick Creek Ranch) March 8, 2023 A must have tool for a small time logger! This DIY log arch build was a quick and easy build that turned out more useful than we thought it would be.
Hmm I saw another guy "Surviving ringworm" built one out of tubing with a boat wench but yours makes more sense and can lift heavier logs though if he added a cheater bar or piece of pipe his would have worked better to. As in work smarter not harder was my thinking but they use your jack for lifting houses so hey I think I told him about that.
Always great to invent something....a downer though to find someone put a video on UA-cam ten years ago and somehow you missed it. Same with music....how have I never heard of this singer who is apparently world famous?
Basically he does chainsaw milling in Michigan
Great idea. How heavy of logs does the lever let you lift?
well I'm not sure of the weights, but must be over 1000 lbs on some of the huge ones.
Where did you get the log hauler with wheels?
I picked that up at a store called Princess Auto here in Ontario, Canada
Well done. You should have pattented that invention before publishing this video
Great job.
Yeah thnx, I should 😆
You did t need to cut the foot on the jack, just wrap a chain around The log and attach the chain to the hole located under the foot, seen as you had both there anyways.
Maybe, I guess I was just trying to get creative figuring out how to get the chain under the log itself. I've tried digging sometimes and a lot of the time I manage to get the chain under without having to use this gadget. How do you get the chain around a log when if really flat to the ground?
So…the purpose of this mod is to lift the log off the ground? Why not just tie around the log with a rope, chain, or even the log tong, then just lift/hoist the log with the jack as is?
I’m may be under thinking it but my idea here is to get a chain around the log. If the log is on the ground how can I get a chain under it? If it’s softer soil I can dig under to slide the chain under but if not, then what? Obviously if I can the tractor in place I can use the 3 pt hitch and tongs but some situations I need to drag the log to get it into position. Any tips?
@@HiddenSpringFarm
In that case, I think the two prong would make sense. If you can use the prong/tong the same way for the tractor, would that work? Jacking it up with the connected chain? I’m by no means a professional engineer 😆
Or maybe even screw a small piece of 2x4 at the end of the log, then just jack it up.
I mean, what you did works, that’s all it matters. I’m just saying, it could be simpler and safer methods with the modifications.
Have a great day my friend. 🍻
That's a boatload of new gear to show you how to use a jack that will very likely injure you. 😢
Should have left it 21 feet for the sawmill you are not exactly looking for perfection right just shade and water proof
you should not be embarrassed for trying
☺️
YOU NEED TO PATENT YOUR NEW TOOL.
Haha Yes that’d be sweet 🥂
