If you're going to be lifting in that one spot pretty regularly, I'd highly recommend making a Boom-and-Mast set up. Not only do you get the lift, but you can get some rotation as well. Plus, they are just tremendously fun to use!

With a modern Come-Along and some dimensional lumber, it'd be very easy to make up a smaller version to handle small loads that only need moved a few feet, like lifting up onto sawhorses.

I often use poles cut in the woods for sheer legs to lift/move logs to load on trailers. Normally the apex is chained together and the bottom of the legs have a chain or strap to keep them from spreading.
Smart solution. Love the Benny Hill in the woods part at the beginning 😅

I saw this years ago at a demo at a wood working festival. I did my best to recreate it but I cheated and used bolts and not rope.
“Using what you have” is an amazing skill you have in spades! So cool to see what you create out of what is lying around!

That system works great, I'll be using something very similar to pull logs up a hillside soon. Will add a 20 to 1 compound pulley system to reduce the weight.

Well nothing beats a good strap 2 inch 2000 lb rated ot four inch 5000lb rated but harbor freight sells hand operated wench that are about 18 bucks each and if you ad a a steel pipe as a cheater bar for more leverage or torc you can lift a lot of weight. Or the basic boat type wench I think they are rated at 1200-1500 lbs. I think A guy built a log lifting device on "surviving ringworm" on you tube which the guy mills his own lumber. And he is able to lift large logs by himself to put on his mill saw horses so he can mill his own lumber as he lives in a forrest on his own land. Which I think is pretty cool. But if you look at his contraption AND THE HARBOR FREIGHT manual cable wenches for 18 bucks each and ad a cheater bar well youd be in like flint and able to lift any size log easily or the farm jack type lifter either way with a spike added like the one on ringworm log lifter. good luck

what is that wheel that your using to pull up that log?
it’s a chain hoist, you can get them at tractor supply or Home Depot. my was a 1 ton hoist. sorry I didn’t reply I thought I did and it didn’t go through for some reason

Why not just use a car jack?
car jacks don’t really work to well on dirt and uneven ground. Also I can’t lift it high enough to get it on the sawhorses
Looks a lot of hard work for the end result....much better, easier and safer ways to do that.
