Exactly, those saw all or reciprocating saws with long coarse blade are really useful cutting roots. Truly amazing the holding power of a few roots have.
That angle puts ENORMOUS force on that chain!! There are physics tables to show just what “quite a bit of tension” you’re creating. Be quite careful!! Slip hooks and grab hooks, by definition…
Very true. I think the term might be 'yield angle'. Not sure. The concept is that as the chain is spread out flatter and flatter, the tensoin on the chain goes up exponentionally. Maximum angle should be something like 60*. The chain in this vid was more than double that. IDK what the real numbers are, but i doubt this chain was anywhere near breaking, because the tree came out easily enough. Just thought a word of caution was in order for viewers who dont know.
Farm jacks have been very useful for over a century. My grandpa had one....the handle was hickory...not kidding. However, they have injured many people (and killed a few) who did not understand their limitations. They are a tall, straight line, therefore very unstable. When they flop it is usually after a tremendous amount of energy has been levered into them. Stabilize before loading. ALWAYS keep your face OUT of the plane of travel of the jack handle. It can become a ballistic arc. When attaching the jaw to the load using a chain, the direction of the load force needs to be parallel with the main beam of the jack and as close as possible to it. Stay safe everyone. Here’s a method that’s much stronger and safer than a farm jack.ua-cam.com/video/pccuAUNwfw8/v-deo.html
Good job but a few pointers. Wrap the anchor tree with a hunk of carpet or a section of old tire to spare the bark damage. Also, wet the ground around that bush a few hours before (night before?) to make the ground softer. 50 gallons of water is want mother nature would do before a good wind would blow things over easily.
Thank you for the great insight. One thing, it’s not good to use cement under the Jack ever. They tend to crack. A piece of wood is more reliable. I have an old Dodge Aspen from the 70s, and have use the bumper jack and chain to remove fence posts trees etc.
Great content for your channel just maybe mention safety measures for people at home that decide to try this and get a tensioned strap snap and smack them on the face. Using a tripod for the jack and cutting the tree down before trying to rip it out is safer and avoids damaging other trees in the process. Was still a good video to watch tjo mate
He’s not brainless the other tree is already junk and that’s why the chain is sinking into it so easily BECAUSE it’s punky ( old dead)! the wood is PUNKY U can see it
yeah, pine or scrub pine is usually too soft.(it wasn't punky) should have collared it to protect it. But really that was pretty dangerous, would have repositioned jack to keep straight, close to slipping. But really, would have dug out by hand was tiny and it's good for you
You've ringbarked the other tree so you're going to have to deal with another unwanted tree in the not too distant future. A few scraps of 2x4 or a rubber matting would have saved the other tree. You can also add an extension pipe (slightly bigger and longer than your jack handle) to offer more leverage, but overall this isn't a preferred method for destroying 2 trees at once.
Nope! I don't think you did! Just read what you said 1 month ago to someone else who pointed this out "Yeah...it turns out the bigger tree didn't survive :( ..." Never mind. We've all made mistakes. I've made plenty.
Cool idea but next year we'll be watching him pull out the other tree because it died from the damage it suffered. He should have wrapped it to prevent damage from the chain.
Do that at your own risk. The instructions for my farm jack say not to do that. The four-foot handle should be enough. More than that might break something, including flesh and bones.
Next time place two short 4×4 on both sides of the anchor tree, so there is no damage to the tree....also use a hose to wash the dirt out and off of the stump
No mechanical advantage here. The force on the chain is the same in both directions. the only thing you change by moving the chain closer to the target tree is the force vector. You killed the other tree for no reason. Try a tree strap next time
Anyone watching this. Never put that much throtle on a loose pull connected to your truck. That is just asking to have your back end get ripped out. Slowly put pressure on the chain or strap and then after it is tight you can accelerate.
I have done this many times. I soak the ground under the tree, put a heavy duty chain around truck axle and the other end of chain looped about bush. Go slow. Works for me. 67 Woman in Texas.
Hmmm, time to re-asess. Do you enjoy shade? looks like a crepe myrtle tree in good condition. Leave it in place and plant around it. Or just leave the lawn. Shade trees add to the aesthetics of your yard.
Don't use your trailer hitch ball as your attachment point the truck. Ryan Woods was killed September 2022 during off-road recovery with his 3 young children in the backseat. When the ball hitch on the rescue vehicle broke, it went straight through the windshield of Ryan's stuck vehicle, deflected up and instantly killed him. Again, his 3 children were feet away int he backseat, his wife was in the driver's seat, and his friend was driving the rescue vehicle . With the permission of the wife, the youtube channel Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery did a 19 minute video breaking it down with the hope of saving lives in the future. The video gives the ratings of all the equipment used and calculates the force's involved. if you want to go for this method. I would recommend you cut one of those limbs into short pieces and put that as a filling between the chain and the tree that you want to keep it will protect the bark en distributes the tension around the trunk of the remaining tree. But personally I won't choose this method the car is ruining your grass. You are putting a lot of strain on the remaining tree. Grinding up the stump after cutting the tree sounds much safer and has a lot less of an impact on the rest of the garden.
Man that was like the most unsafe video i have ever watched on here,do not do what this guy did..any of it. just cut the tree down and pay someone to grind it away for you or burn it out, he basically killed the other trees heartwood,if that jack slipped off its stand towards him or that tow strap snapped...just dont do this.
Don't jerk a chain like that. Tension it first, then apply force, or you'll permanently overstretch, deform, and weaken the links. That chain's safe working load has been reduced by at least 30%.
The propee way to to this would be to attach once chain to the tree and the top of the jack and the other one to the moving part and the other tree. This way you sont lose half the power and dont risk it tipping over.
Not efficient the force is practically halved. The force should be close and as vertical as possible. Ruining the other will make die. Also you have to be carefull the jack handle can fly in your face if you are to close.
How did you sleep that night? Looks like you put this kind of effort once a blue moon. Anyway, it looks quite dangerous. That jack is under a lot of pressure and it can take off on you. I would definitely not recommend it.
The slo-mo replay was even more satisfying than my cup of coffee this morning.
Great video! What really impressed me other than the fact that you actually pulled that tree out, is how strong that paver is!!😮
A little bit of digging and cutting some of the major leader roots would have saved some time/effort on the back end, I do believe
Exactly, those saw all or reciprocating saws with long coarse blade are really useful cutting roots. Truly amazing the holding power of a few roots have.
THANK YOU THIS MAN IF HE,S STILL LIVING IS VERY DANGEROUS PLEASE DO NOT BREED.
Out of all the things in this video, that tree is the last thing I'd ever call ugly.
If that Jack slips... You've gust created a bow and arrow.

Would it be worth watering the ground around the tree to be removed.
Holding the jack in one hand whilst levering with the other is a great way to break bones if the handle slips from your hand under pressure

I must use what I have, a farm jack. I have a lot of tools and they should suffice for one job.
Wetting the ground is a great tip. Thanks!
I was watching this and my 4 year old BUSTED out laughing when you yanked the tree with truck! Thank you for not leaving that out!
Thank you for the great insight. One thing, it’s not good to use cement under the Jack ever. They tend to crack. A piece of wood is more reliable. I have an old Dodge Aspen from the 70s, and have use the bumper jack and chain to remove fence posts trees etc.
Great tip!
What’s a HAM MOCK? 😂
Those are the aprons that amish women wear.
because the chain is sinking into bark and killing the flow of sap what you are doing is called girdle the tree and you kill it
Great content for your channel just maybe mention safety measures for people at home that decide to try this and get a tensioned strap snap and smack them on the face. Great point! Cutting the tree down first would also remove the risk that it falls onto the truck.
Brainless. He's basically killed the other tree as well.
He’s not brainless the other tree is already junk and that’s why the chain is sinking into it so easily BECAUSE it’s punky
( old dead)!
the wood is PUNKY U can see it

Yeah, he might have used his truck rather than the tree.

Yes, this method didn't do the bigger tree much good, but I had planned to remove both trees anyway.
Nope! I don't think you did! Just read what you said 1 month ago to someone else who pointed this out "Yeah...it turns out the bigger tree didn't survive :( ..."

You need a remote controlled power device, like your neighbor for instance, to do the dangerous work.
“Simple trigonometry”
Yeah you know all the forces in trig. /s
Darwin gave this guy a pass that day.
Don't do what this guy did.
Yep.
Find a metal pipe that fits the handle to Increasing the leverage ratio. Make the handle longer another 2 to 3 feet.
That's a smart idea, at least I learned something from this comment, thx

a high lift jack is 1 of those tools every man should own
Almost every man
Did you check to see if there was a grave under the concrete slab you found?
Yikes!
Be safe young man.
This was hilarious. When I heard the motor, I thought, "no he di'int!"
The way you say hammock makes me hungry.😋
@1:07 Ooooooo trigonometry! Well hello smart. @1:07 I’m loving this jack. I’m ordering one today.
The upward force vector is a lot less the way he was doing it.
I think the concrete slab marked where the body was buried.
I was NOT ready for that extraction! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Should've used a tyre to remove trunk
I have done this many times. I soak the ground under the tree, put a heavy duty chain around truck axle and the other end of chain looped about bush. Go slow. Works for me. 67 Woman in Texas.
Looks like renting a skid loader would be safer and faster but not cheaper, unless you figure the possible hospital bill.
It worked but that is about the only positive from this video. How are you going to remove the bigger tree that you destroyed in the process?
Lol next video he shows us how to drop a tree on the fence?
I'd be worried about the chain snapping!
If I'm not mistaking the bigger Hook is called a slip hook and the smaller is called a clevis hook
Call me crazy but I don't think you want to be standing there next to the jack when the chain snaps.
are we not going to talk about the pronunciation of hammock hahahahahahah
Jackin is hard work. He does not need the gym now.
Don't ever do this! So dangerous. Everything he did was wrong.
I want to see that hamhock
Good work David
garden hose would make short work of removing dirt from the root ball
Hmmm, time to re-asess. Do you enjoy shade? looks like a crepe myrtle tree in good condition. Leave it in place and plant around it. Or just leave the lawn. Shade trees add to the aesthetics of your yard.
Man, I didn't think the tree would come up like that! Good job.😂😂👍👍

4:05 was mighty epic enough!

Odd enunciation of hammock. Ham Ock
A lot of comments here about the things that could have gone wrong. If something did go wrong it would get way more views.
The truck is in your backyard, Why not use the truck to rip it out.
HAM MOCK!!?!?!? Hes from the future
That looked like a great way to snap a tow strap and take it directly to the face. #darwinism
The mind is the strongest muscle.
Nice problem solving!!
Did you harm the remaining tree?
Man that was like the most unsafe video i have ever watched on here,do not do what this guy did..any of it. just cut the tree down and pay someone to grind it away for you or burn it out, he basically killed the other trees heartwood,if that jack slipped off its stand towards him or that tow strap snapped...just dont do this.
Agreed, even him pulling trees with that truck was done stupid.
Never working with this guy, dangerous
He is my coworker his name is evil knievel
Make sure you use a cheater bar. Makes it much easier...
Don't jerk a chain like that. Tension it first, then apply force, or you'll permanently overstretch, deform, and weaken the links. That chain's safe working load has been reduced by at least 30%.
next time dampen the tree roots thoroughly then slow-pull with the truck will be enough.
That's a good tip. Thanks!
Think you just killed both trees
Yeah...it turns out the bigger tree didn't survive :(
It’s called ringing, when the bark of a tree is cut all the way around the tree dies
I'm looking to do the same, but wouldn't a chain saw and small stump grinder work as well?
Sure...but where's the fun in that? Lol.
Omg under all that tension from the truck and he was jacking it from knee height. If the yellow cord malfunctioned you would of been wiped out
I was nervous the chain was oing to break
I'll try anything except a shovel
You got it out, but at the expense of killing a healthy oak tree.
I almost don't weigh enough...lol
Simple trigonometry???? I have a hard time with addition.
What is a ham-Ohk?
Epic video man.
Slap of concrete.now what under the tree and the slap of concrete. Humans remains.
Surprised that your truck could not pull it out. If you cut the roots at first then the truck could have pulled it out.
Good trick to remember. Thanks
Never mind, that was cool.
Mission accomplished...but that anchor tree is a goner.
Yes. I ended up cutting down rhe anchor tree a few weeks later. It served me well!
Quite clever really. Dangerous like but clever nonetheless
Damn dude..it was fun
Ham hock?
@3:36 Whats not to like on a nice jack reaching a maximum load? 😂
shocking the truck frame in the end was very foolish.
You’re gonna lose an eye putting that much pressure on that cheap Jack..
Haha just jokin.. nice work…
If the concrete could stay there... why not just cut the bush and let the roots stay there?
It probably depends on the species of bush, but I was concerned it would just grow back if I didn't pull out the roots.
Good work. Thanks!
The propee way to to this would be to attach once chain to the tree and the top of the jack and the other one to the moving part and the other tree.
This way you sont lose half the power and dont risk it tipping over.
Lmfao the truck
A little water around the tree would have helped a lot
Nice job. Thank you.
Not efficient the force is practically halved. The force should be close and as vertical as possible. Ruining the other will make die. Also you have to be carefull the jack handle can fly in your face if you are to close.
Well-done mate 👍
If your truck could get there why not just use that to start with
It was too big to just pull out without loosening it first.
You should of heavily water the tree you were trying to pull out
Why not use the truck?
It is kind of a dump set up.
How did you sleep that night?
Looks like you put this kind of effort once a blue moon.
Anyway, it looks quite dangerous. That jack is under a lot of pressure and it can take off on you.
I would definitely not recommend it.
way over my pay scale
I kept watching expecting someone to die.
