Gene was a human being....in all of his frailty, strength, talent, and ego, etc. He was neither perfect or terrible. From listening to some of his fellow actors, we know this to be true. He was difficult to work with at times and likely, a joy at other times. An imperfect human, who may have been more blessed by 'timing' than even he realizes.

      got old.

Idk he’s always seemed depressed and very aged to me. Even during young Frankenstein. The scene in blazing saddles where he asks when is he going to die. He asks it so genuinely earnest. He hasn’t aged a day because he’s been this tired withered old man the entirety of his life. As most Jokers are, they see the true reality and can only giggle and laugh at theses games that is life. As to not spread the pain and suffering around but to be truly empathetic and shield from that pain

I always felt like he had an “old-soul” kind of darkness to him, but the duality is that he also has a very genuine innocence about him, too. I think it’s the latter that exudes that youthfulness you’re talking about.
      idk
Whatever it is, I do see how you could sense something like that in him.

Gene to this day is still one of my favorites. The Silver Streak, the chemistry between him and Richard. Every character he played was special because of him. I never met the man, but his work brought joy and smiles into my life. I always wondered what he would be like in person. He was a very private person and was good at keeping his personal/family life out of the news. Reading some of the comments below, It warms my heart to know that he wasn't an asshole. I know he's been gone almost 6 years... but I will have him in my thoughts and prayers.

No matter what movie Gene Wilder was in, he had a soft spoken nature that really spoke to me. So gentle, so kind, so sweet and it really touched my heart and made me sad when he revealed he kept his illness a secret because he didn't want kids to feel bad that Willy Wonka was suffering. That spoke to me so much, it really did.

No matter how much you love someone going through dying with them is personally horrendous because there's so much guilt and denial involved in just getting through it - it's easier caring for someone you don't love, you do a better job for them in the end because you can remain strong. When you love someone it's quite a complicated situation and the answers aren't as obvious as you think because something in the caretaker dies too

First time I saw Gene was "Blazing Saddles," but that was only one example of how good he was. If anyone is curious about his work, start with "The Producers" and watch everything you can get your hands on. They vary so much. There are the Mel Brooks movies, the immediately post Mel movies, the later movies with Pryor that are only worth seeing because of Gene and Richard, his movies with Gilda, his work as a featured player, like Woody Allen's "Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex," and everything else I'm not mentioning.

2:31 I believe in fate just like Gene. When you fall in love with someone and they become your 'soul mate,' your heart tells you that the person was your destiny. It becomes unthinkable to believe that you may have never met the person and not have fallen in love with them. And when you lose the person (they die) your broken heart tells you it was all part of the plan.

An original🤩. Willy Wonka and Young Frankenstein are the best roles to show the range of performance he was capable of! From endearing, caring. surreal honesty of Wonka; to the passionate, stern madman of Victor F.. Wilder could summon All his emotions for his characters 🤩. I love and miss him🌈

I actually struggle with this as we speak, and I just came on UA-cam to look at random videos maybe and I run into this I actually lost my wife in 2018 to cancer and I’m not sure what my life holds as it relates to dating, but this was extremely intriguing.
