No. You need to strive to keep the law of God, not just belief; the moral law of marriage is included. Also, the Mormon needs to forsake his false religion; the Mormons believe we are gods and Jesus is the example abd the Father is also a god working his way to more godliness. The Mormon is not in the same position as the healed leper, that ancient foreigner in the Bible history. Christ loves us in our sin but does not tolerate sin; Heiser has used no context for the quotations at the end. He is misled by Luther's evil.
@@clarekuehn4372- Is that what Christ told the thief beside him? I have news for you. Good News! Luther's evil is no different than yours. It doesn't mean God doesn't love us.
These days I hear it preached all the time about how we can loose our salvation. I remember when I first became a Christian, the pastor would always say to us that salvation was a free gift and once someone took it, it could nkt be lost. God gave it to us by grace.
I've loved Mike Heiser since I came across his stuff about a month ago. I thought he was was a great scholar and teacher of theology and biblical doctrine, but I didn't think that he would be much of a preacher -- I was very much wrong. He's at least as good a preacher as he is every thing else. RIP Doc Heiser. You are greatly missed. 🙏✝️🙏
See if his Naked Bible podcasts are still available. I used to go to sleep listening to Dr. Heiser. His Melchizedek was awesome as was almost all his podcasts. Shalom Aleichem
My mother told me one thing about God that I clung to for many years before I knew anything else about God. God loves you. That was what the cross was all about. That is what I needed then. That is what I need now.......
Why can't a person do good works and simply not boast? Paul is a wolf in sheep's clothing. James, John, and Revelation are direct refutations of Paul. (John's Gospel has been tampered with or translated not in good faith in order to appear to be faith alone?)
I've watched this teaching more than 10 times and I still can't help but be blown away by the message. Never heard the Gospel presented in this way! Wow! God's word is truly amazing! Dr. Heiser was mightily used here
@@aamadeus3884yup! Same for me. I go back to this often and I'm astonished when I realize I've never truly understood "grace" I remember someone said "The gospel is simple enough for a child to understand but deep enough for a theologian to drown in"

By far this is the greatest message I ever heard on the Gospel and I have been listening to messages all my 50 years of searching to know God more and more. With this simple talk I sensed that I broke a barrier to being more intimate with the Living God which has been my lifelong search.
This is an excellent lesson. It's a great way to understand salvation and sufficiency. Thanks Dr. Mike! On a lighter note I heard it as "temple of Ramon" and I imagined a picnic table under a ramada, with a framed picture of a guy named Ramon, with a half case of Bud Light and a paper plate with tacos on it.
Yes, the Gospel is exactly how he has explained to be when we all first encounter God that's why it is great news. Although God meets us where we all are he never keeps us where He found us. Everyday our delight is to please him more and more and as we grow into that there is a shedding of old self and a conforming to the image of Christ.
Everywhere you look are broken hurting people that have nothing but their faith in Christ. Everywhere you look are Christians telling these people they don't measure up. Thank God for teachers like this. The gospel is Good News!
If I may humbly offer a thought to consider… I have struggled with the same questions in the past as well… What you truly believe at the core of your being will be evidenced by how you unconsciously, routinely live on a daily basis… like you, I shy from contrived ‘good works’ (see. Matthew 5:5-6; 6:1-4)… while we are told to work out our own salvation, the very next verse tells us that God works in us to “will and to do of His good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:12-13)… Naaman took dirt BECAUSE he believed… In the same way, James argues, in my view, that good works evolve out of our faith… the Spirit quietly says go and do or go and give or go and pray or whatever… Will you obey that urging?… Finally, who judges what are good works? You? Me?Others?… I contend, “NO!!!”… In Matthew 24:37-40, the righteous have not a clue of their good works, the LORD tells them… Trust in the Lord’s good judgment, He will guide you in this life and reward you in the next… I hope this helps you in small way… Shalom ☺️
In my mind Michael Heiser was & is one of the greatest theological thinkers - and this is the key - the most compelling teachers of all time. I am so grateful for all his videos
I'm reading negative comments from people who don't understand grace at all. Most " so-called " Christians got saved under a performance based conversion. You aren't saved.
I nearly joined Orthodoxy thinking I was joining the one true Church But I realized that there was no gospel when I stepped inside. Plenty of history, plenty of images, plenty of candles and plenty of well meaning people, but I realized entering that dark room "If this is the one true church, then everyone's faith outside these walls are in vain" So I asked the church father my concern and he said yes, there's no salvation outside these walls. I prayed asking the Lord "is this it? Am I to spend the rest of my life here? Is this your true church?" As I prayed, I suddenly remembered scripture Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all [d]speak the same thing, and that there be no [e]divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are [f]contentions among you. 12 Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name. 16 Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Besides, I do not know whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. Christ the Power and Wisdom of God
Can you imagine asking someone to pray for your mother as she lay on her death bed and the hour the prayer was said, her incurable disease was healed? The woman eventually became my mother-in-law. Many of my prayers have been answered with miracles. It not easy being a prophet... everyone mocks and everyone laughs. One day I hope to never have to say "I tried to warn you"... ever again. ~ Musa'nte
I'm still worried because James said faith without works is dead. Even if I interpret that to mean 'as long as you try', my trying seems fake even to me. So on one hand I believe that even though I'm probably never going to change, and even though my attempts to try seem like I'm just trying to deceive myself, I still believe in Jesus rose from the dead and he his God, but on the other hand, because of my phony works and my lack of change, what if I'm not really believing? What if I just know the information. Like "yeah I know for a fact Jesus is God, but he wants me to stop being selfish and I just don't have the energy." That's not believing loyalty. What the fuck is it going to take to make me follow Jesus? What is wrong with me?? Why am I so evil?

Folks here are quoting James, etc regarding faith and the importance of works as a means to criticize Mike's sermon. Yes, works are a sign of a Christian living out his faith. But first, that person must fully realize he can do nothing to gain salvation except believe. That is the point of Mike's sermon. After a person becomes a believer, his character will start the journey of transforming to resemble that of our Savior, which is demonstrated by the believer's "fruit."
yes works are only evidence of salvation. They do nothing to gain salvation itself. Its surprising how many people can't grasp that we can't earn our way into heaven. Good post thanks!
I think all of have an inner 4 year old that is insistant on "doing it by my self" that fights against turning our sin over to Christ and not insisting that our merit is somehow obligating God to forgive us. We forget that mercy, by its nature, is undeserved. If we deserved it it would be justice. We conflate Salvation, which gets us out of Egypt, with Sanctification, which gets Egypt out of us andprepares us to assend the mountain and take our places in the Divine Council. Speaking as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) i would say Dr. Heiser's friend was not answering his question as a matter of theology but internal temperature on the state of his heart.
It’s true that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. But that by itself does not mean we are saved. We need to believe that Christ died for us and we need to repent of our sin in order to receive God’s forgiveness and grace. Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? By no means! Romans 3:8 And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), “Let us do evil that good may come”? Their condemnation is just. Romans 6:15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! 1 John 3:6 No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. 1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 5:18 We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him. Romans 6:2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Romans 6:6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; Romans 6:13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. Romans 6:16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness? Galatians 2:17 But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found sinners, is Christ then a minister of sin? May it never be! Hebrews 10:26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 1 John 3:10 By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.
God is love. We all fall short and sin. Love is just and merciful. Because God is loving He must judge sin, we all stand judged and are due to face His wrath as slaves of sin. Because God is merciful He provided a way out from under the weight of the law and His wrath, and a way for us to be regenerated. If we trust Jesus shed His sinless blood, died and rose from the grave He forgives us of our sins and gives us a new heart that wants to look God as our Father genuinely and delight in Him, freeing us from being slaves to sin. The rest is our mind catching up with that reality and taking hold of His teaching and truth until He returns, or we die. Antinomian's are people who will either end up no longer trusting in Jesus's atonement being drawn away by sin, or are under or misinformed Christians with a misunderstanding that God's direction is what will ultimately fulfill us.

In first Corinthians 8 Paul discusses eating food sacrificed to idols. Basically a believer can eat because we serve God and the idols have no real power. But he warns that even though we can we need to be responsible so that the weak around us won't fall to thinking that eating is permissible in that in thought they follow Jesus but they can also dabble in following idols. In this case Paul would never eat meat again as not to cause weaker followers to stumble. Hiser speaks some truth here but sadly might have given cart blanch to two men that the spirit was convicting to repent. Jesus says if you love me you will follow my commands. Yes we are individual situations and it's not my call on if one is right with God or not but I do have a barometer in the fruits of someone's life to look at. I always look to be offended by God's word so that I might see where I am not in right standing so that I might seek help for the holy spirit on removing that from my life.
I would add, there only two people in the New Testament who Jesus commended for their great faith… the Roman centurion & the Syro-Phoenician widow… BOTH were unbelieving gentiles…
I'll have to look again. Didn't Jesus tell the centurion about his great faith? That means he believed, no? I'm glad you brought that up though. Feels encouraging.
This is very interesting. However, what if you have never heard of Jesus, or you don't have the mental capacity to understand, or are a very young child who passes away? How can one state their loyalty to Jesus and God if someone is unable to acknowledge this fact?
Yes.I get it"nothing in my hands I bring" However the question is if my view of Christ as to His person is wrong then you are coming to the wrong Jesus."Except you believe I am he you shall die in your sins".Yes I get it about Naaman and the widow. However the Jehovah of the NT IS here and He sent His disciples inti the world to teach and baptise. You got to get the person snd work of Christ correct hence He sent us to teach.
He's reading unconditionality into salvation scriptures that many other passages make clear are conditional on a person's evidenced faithfulness (i.e., not just a purely psychic affirmation).
2 Thessalonians 2:13 NIV But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits b to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. According to Paul, sanctification is a work of the Holy Spirit in us. As we yield ourselves to to the truth of the gospel the Spirit works in us to shape us into vessels set aside for the purposes of God.
The true meaning of the Gospel is God sent His Son to be the perfect Sacrifice for our sins, and the Son established His Church to bring His once for all eternal Sacrifice to all men for all time through His priesthood in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, which is the same Sacrifice of Calvary extended throughout time and space re-presented in an unbloody manner.
The true meaning of the Gospel is God chose his Ultimate Prophet (see Peter's speech in Acts which references the Old Testament), Jesus Christ, to write the Law upon our hearts so that we become free of sin in our daily lives. When we sin we should repent. When we sin against someone else we must ask their forgiveness. In both cases once repentance and asking for forgiveness occur, then we can ask for the blood of Jesus, the perfect lamb, to cover our transgressions. Jesus came to bear witness to the Father in Heaven. God's law frees us from sin which enslaves us, keeps us slaves, and keeps us out of His house instead of becoming sons and daughters of the Father so we can dwell on His house.
Mark 1:15 ESV And saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Acts 20:21 ESV Testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 2:38 ESV And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 17:30 ESV The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, Acts 3:19 ESV Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, Luke 13:3 ESV No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Matthew 4:17 ESV From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
What is adultery? Did Abraham commit adultery? Why will believers be judged? When you knew the truth and failed to follow the commandments, then you will know why.
Love Mike's teaching. Let's not forget, however, that the same Jesus who spoke about the gentile Naaman & widow also said this... "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’" Matt 7 And then there's the book of James ("faith without works is dead") We have to understand God's grace within the context of these scriptures as well.
”For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”“ John 6:40
You have these scriptures out of context. He was speaking about false prophets starting in vs 15.. "ONLY THE ONE WHO DOES THE "Will of the Father. " What is the will of the Father? Allow scripture to answer that , and if you then go to John 6:40, you will find the answer. We must believe! And bc you love Him, we want to honor Him. I used to be just like you and used the same scriptures, and then my eyes were opened! Please now go back and meditate on these scriptures. ❤
@@Daughter_of_the_King316 I'm afraid you're the one taking out of context, and guilty of anachronism. "Believing" as you point to jn John 6 should not be understood through a modern Western mindset (aka collecting data points). Biblical belief in Jesus always assumes surrendering one's life in subjection (aka following as a disciple). Proper contextual reading requires understanding what the original audience would've understood something to mean. Not what your 21st century understanding of that word might be.
Jesus said, REPENT and believe. He died for sinners, received the punishment for sinners. So, now we can repent of our sin, believe Christ provided the pardon for sin, then we have eternal life. Why is this so hard for people to grasp? You can’t be forgiven if you don’t repent. The Gospel isn’t, “I believe in Jesus but I don’t repent of my sins.”
Some people need a little time to digest the meat given, not all of us have the ability to chew, swallow and digest the word of God even if it’s simple.
A Mormons Jesus is Lucifers spirit brother, not God the second person of the trinity. If your Mormon friend is putting his faith in Lucifers brother he is not saved.
I think this is .issi g a lot. His mor.on frie d literall worships a different yaweh. As does the jw. Thier belief is in a different god all together. U less they come to the true god, like the example hieser gave in yhe ot, then these mean can believe in the atonement and get theor god wrong.
I’m just discovering Heiser unfortunately. I’m only 24 minutes in and I’m not seeing how those two had faith on something they evidently didn’t even know existed since they never had any knowledge of Yahweh. Maybe they knew there was a God , but it sounds like no one even told them about the true one God.
Heiser's point is both true but also flawed and dangerously twisted. While nobody "merited" becoming right with God, God has always required the type of faith that immediately responds to news of God's grace and proferred cleansing or provision by an act of demanded obedience. It's usually simple to do but also a little bit crazy. Dip in the muddy Jordan?Give to a prophet half of her last food? Pack up thousands of sheep and hundreds of servants and leave this nice, green place and go to a far-off, foreign, semi-arid plateau country? Naaman's faith was shown by his humble obedience. If he had not dipped in the Jordan would he have been cleansed? When he dipped, did that EARN him cleansing, or was it simply an act of humility before God, showing that he was ready to totally give honor to Yahweh? No obedience, no result! Similarly, would the widow have been continuously fed if she hadn't done what Elijah required? Did she "merit" or "earn" her bread by complying, or was she showing she had more than lip service to Yahweh, politeness toward His prophet? Both showed extreme and surrendered faith. Obeying Acts 2:38,39, similarly, earns us nothing, but shows our obedient faith and thus gains us everything....
You have the prevalent view. Most churches preach what your talking about. But, the true teaching, like the above sermon....very rare to find. A buried pearl. Few find this type of teaching. It's hated. Your view is the "but gospel." "We're saved by grace....but......." It's the "but" that cancels all the good news out. Therefore I reject that gospel.
@@KJV_bibleteaching No, there is no, "but," friend. We are saved by grace THROUGH faith--Ephesians 2:8,9. What kind of faith? Obedient faith. This is brought out in Galatians 3:26,27. We are all sons of God by faith, FOR (Greek, gar, because) all of us who have been baptized INTO Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." Trying to be saved outside of Christ? Spiritually naked without the clothing, the covering of Christ? You do not yet have saving faith, in that case. Jesus said, "He who believes and is baptized shall be saved." Mark 16:16 To be living and active, faith must respond to God's directives--James 1:14-26.
There's a different "church" on every corner teaching different stuff using different canons using different translations arriving at different conclusions. What a mess.
When Naaman disobeyed the words of the prophet by refusing to wash himself in the Jordan River, his leprosy remained intact, 2 Kings 5:12. When he obeyed the word of God that is when he was healed. To say Naaman had “no work to bring to the table at all” and that he merely had “a belief statement” is false. He dipped himself seven times in the Jordan River, according to the saying of the man of God. It was only then that his leprosy was healed, 2 Kings 5:14. Grace is not a magic word which means God approves of continual, unrepentant sin, Romans 6:1-2 & Jude 1:4. Mr. Heiser’s sermon is well articulated, interesting, and thought-provoking. However, he has presented a false representation of the Biblical account of Naaman. Did Paul misunderstand the gospel when he said adulterers will not inherit the kingdom of God, 1 Corinthians 6:9? Can a Christian continually lie, steal, murder, and so on with God’s approval as long as that Christian has “believing loyalty”? The application made by Mr. Heiser makes every moral teaching in the Bible meaningless.
You seem to misunderstand the message and importance of what Naaman did. Was it the washing itself that cleaned the leprosy? If so he could have washed in any other river and not in the land of Israel, the land of Yahweh's people. Because he believed and was loyal the leprosy was cleansed. Don't go around judging Dr. Heiser on your preconceptions of a works based salvation which ignores the value of grace. In doing so you misunderstand Dr. Heiser's message and you misunderstand God's grace and it's power.
That’s not loyalty then. Loyalty is a strong sense of allegiance or support for someone. If you believe God but have no loyalty, it’s called dead faith according to James. Your works is a reflection of your faith.
I have to disagree, works is vital to faith. James 2:17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. Another verse James 2:24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. The Gentile "Church" has the faith to belief BUT they follow Roman Catholic rules and traditions, God has commanded all of us to OBEY his Law for our WORKS part of our Faith. Our Justification is ONLY by the blood of Yeshua BUT our SANCTIFICATION is by the Law of Moses. This verse sums it up perfectly. Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law. 1. Faith in Yeshua 2. Obedience to the Law this is my humble opinion. Shalom my friends.
If you read it carefully, James says, works is a sign of good faith. Dead faith produces no works. So if you see someone who says they believe but doesn’t show it, it is dead faith and will do them no good in the eyes of God. Not that you need both for Salvation but it always begins with faith.
@BeastofBrooklyn I think you may want to read the text further into Romans 4. There was no break in this letter to the Romans. Romans 413 It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith. 14 For if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless, 15 because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression. 16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring-not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all
@@bjrgstre-mauger5398 Please read the part of my answer to what you are talking about. Let be cut and paste it again. 'Our Justification is ONLY by the blood of Yeshua BUT our SANCTIFICATION is by the Law of Moses". Did you understand my statement here? FAITH comes by the blood of Yeshua. SANCTIFICATION/Moral living comes through the LAW. Paul was obedient to the Law of Moses. Acts 21:24 Take these men, join in their purification rites and pay their expenses, so that they can have their heads shaved. Then everyone will know there is no truth in these reports about you (PAUL), but that you yourself are living in obedience to the law. Can a person be justified by faith alone? No James 2:26 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. The LAW brings wrath when you DISOBEY it, see the problem is not with the LAW it's with our sinful natures. Lets finish this again with what Paul says in Romans 3:31 is it ALL about faith only? No Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law. Shalom
@@HaleStorm49 Matt 5 is under the Old Cov. God commands holiness but people do sin and you have forgiveness- 1 John 1:7-10 (NKJV) 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
I'm not sure how to articulate my disappontment. Dr. Mike always said he was an evangelical, and this is basic evangelicalism. I sort of agree with some of what he said, but the glaring problem with this "no merit" gospel is precisely that it's ironically merit-focused. "No merit" is an answer to the question of merit, and the truth is it's wrong to ask the question in the first place. Whether you're relying on "merit" or "no merit" the PRESUMPTION is still there. Either way, you PRESUME to know what kind of judgment you'll get. Our destiny is in the hands of Christ, who will judge us based on his own criteria. YOU DON'T GET TO SAY WHETHER YOU MERIT ANYTHING OR NOT. Leave it to him. Do your best, and hope for the "well done, my good and faithful servant". Conduct yourselves with fear, if you call on God as your Father, WHO JUDGES EVERYONE ACCORDING TO THEIR DEEDS. Lord have mercy on all of us.
I agree. It is merit focused though it is not by our merit that we are saved, yet it is very clear, our belief can be of dead works or no works...the works must be alive! Spirit filled marked by humbleness (not self righteousness )And Jesus taught so much of doing! A righteousness far exceeding Moses. Grace righteousness is far above Moses unless we are saying Jesus is lower than Moses. I want not to be surprised and be blind. LORD have mercy, open my eyes not to be deceived by a watered down fake Gospel

honestly i have to say I really didnt get what he was saying the Whole message. I like him for the divine council and his other ways of understanding the bible. But for him to appear to evangelize which in itself should appear to be easy assuming the spirit of God has in fact overshadowed you a better way to put it. but his approach in explaining the gospel appears alittle confusing. In the end i enjoyed his many other teaching. I think he is alittle defected in explaining the pauline way if i may put it that way of giving the gospel to someone. Its that easy If you can not in your own words without adding confusion jut open up the NT and all over the pauline epistles the many ways Paul gives the Message of the Gospel. Heiser is really defective in this. I pray when he past away that the Lord God did in fact approve of his Entire Ministry.. Lately, i have been very Careful to gurard My soul from slight even slight defective theology that may ruin my foundation.

another thing. did he Heiser open up or even quoted the Many NT passages about the gospel the Safer way to stay within the foundations of true theology of the Gospel if i may put it that way. I dont think he even quoted 2 passages in the NT. this is scary and trying to explain gospel from some specific OT passages along with his own paraphrased Passages which was Stupid along with His Paraphrased understanding of the GOspel via his OT passages is seriously defective. He is good in providing the general Overview of OT NT theology. People be very careful with his teachings.. Hes a good teacher scholar but in no way meant to be a Pastor or Evangelical person. sorry everyone.
This preaches well, but is full of heresy. This is why Heiser is not with us anymore. Belief in monotheism, in Jesus' deity as Son of the Father, ..The Sons' incarnation, death, bodily resurrection, and Messiahship are non negotiables. I used to like Heiser, but this is plainly False teaching. Granted, we dont need to be biblical scholars to be saved, but saving knowledge consists of more than nebulous trust in some vague and subjective idea of a "jesus."
I am not a fan at all....best to read scripture in context...book by book.... sermons can often lead to misconceptions....beware of his teachings....be aware that his teachings are different than 99% of believers.....that might be good or that might be bad....that's my two cents for what it's worth cents....I might be wrong of course....not likely in this case I think 🤔

Agreed!

These days I hear it preached all the time about how we can loose our salvation. I remember when I first became a Christian, the pastor would always say to us that salvation was a free gift and once someone took it, it could nkt be lost. God gave it to us by grace.
This just changed my whole life.

But your reward does!!! REVALATION 22:12

I love this sermon. Michael made the Bible thoroughly interesting.

I nearly joined Orthodoxy thinking I was joining the one true Church
But I realized that there was no gospel when I stepped inside.
Plenty of history, plenty of images, plenty of candles and plenty of well meaning people, but I realized entering that dark room
"If this is the one true church, then everyone's faith outside these walls are in vain"
So I asked the church father my concern and he said yes, there's no salvation outside these walls.
I prayed asking the Lord "is this it? Am I to spend the rest of my life here? Is this your true church?"
As I prayed, I suddenly remembered scripture
Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all [d]speak the same thing, and that there be no [e]divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Romans 3:8
And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), “Let us do evil that good may come”? Their condemnation is just.
Romans 6:15
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!
1 John 3:6
No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him.
1 John 3:9
No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1 John 5:18
We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.
Romans 6:2
May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
Romans 6:6
knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
Romans 6:13
and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
Romans 6:16
Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
Galatians 2:17
But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found sinners, is Christ then a minister of sin? May it never be!
Hebrews 10:26
For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
1 John 3:10
By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.
I really wanted to watch this but the commercials are ridiculous.
Just skip them
UA-cam premium is worth every freaking penny.
Rest in peace

You got to get the person snd work of Christ correct hence He sent us to teach.
He's reading unconditionality into salvation scriptures that many other passages make clear are conditional on a person's evidenced faithfulness (i.e., not just a purely psychic affirmation).

According to Paul, sanctification is a work of the Holy Spirit in us. As we yield ourselves to to the truth of the gospel the Spirit works in us to shape us into vessels set aside for the purposes of God.
The key here is that is "the sanctifying work of the Spirit", not our works or merit.

“Couldn’t have cared less “
salvation, by faith, alone....is the product of Luther who discarded both Hebrews and James..
The Gospel is a Person-Ro.1:1-4 and not on anything else.

Acts 3:19 ESV
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out,
Luke 13:3 ESV
No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
Matthew 4:17 ESV
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Believers called out for their u belief 😮
So many in here simply do not understand God .... plain to see .... disturbing as
What is adultery? Did Abraham commit adultery? Why will believers be judged? When you knew the truth and failed to follow the commandments, then you will know why.
Love Mike's teaching.
Let's not forget, however, that the same Jesus who spoke about the gentile Naaman & widow also said this...
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’" Matt 7
And then there's the book of James ("faith without works is dead")
We have to understand God's grace within the context of these scriptures as well.
”For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”“
John 6:40
Amen! @@Strongtower
You have these scriptures out of context. He was speaking about false prophets starting in vs 15.. "ONLY THE ONE WHO DOES THE "Will of the Father. " What is the will of the Father? @@Daughter_of_the_King316 I'm afraid you're the one taking out of context, and guilty of anachronism. "Believing" as you point to jn John 6 should not be understood through a modern Western mindset (aka collecting data points). Biblical belief in Jesus always assumes surrendering one's life in subjection (aka following as a disciple). Proper contextual reading requires understanding what the original audience would've understood something to mean. Not what your 21st century understanding of that word might be.
@@TroyStevens430 Ephesians 2.
Short answer yes if you believe Christ died for your sins. But probably not if you don’t

36:14. WRONG ANS 36:14 WER! Do you belive the BIBLE?
It's hated.
Your view is the "but gospel."
"We're saved by grace....but......."
It's the "but" that cancels all the good news out. Therefore I reject that gospel.
@@KJV_bibleteachingbrilliant 👏👏
Well said! Mr. Heiser is twisting the Bible to fit his theological preconceptions.
Shalom
Disagree all you want.
You’re wrong.

@40:00 this contradicts what Christ said in Matt 5. The premise cannot be flawed without the theory and conclusion also being flawed.
What exactly in matthew 5 are you referring to?
@@colewellnitz1470 have you read it? Christ commands us to be perfect. He never says it's out of reach. Heiser is teaching his opinion here.
@@HaleStorm49 Matt 5 is under the Old Cov. God commands holiness but people do sin and you have forgiveness-
1 John 1:7-10 (NKJV) 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

@@Logic807Right. Jesus said in Luke 6:46-49:
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” (ESV)
@CODA834No, I watched it all. I have enough respect for him to watch the whole thing before I complain, but his presentation of the gospel was not at all like what the apostles preached, in the book of Acts, for instance. They preached about the resurrection of Jesus. I just expected more from him, is all.
@CODA834 At the end, Was he not speaking on divorce and remarriage? I doubt we can willfully sin when Jesus says no remarriage
We don't want to trust in our own righteousness, but the perfect atoning suffering of Christ for our sins!

honestly i have to say I really didnt get what he was saying the Whole message. I like him for the divine council and his other ways of understanding the bible. But for him to
appear to evangelize which in itself should appear to be easy assuming the spirit of God has in fact overshadowed you a better way to put it. but his approach in explaining the gospel appears alittle confusing.
