"Where did they get Floor?"
I'm convinced Tuomas made a sacrifice to Odin 😉
A video titled "Please learn the setlist in 48 hrs" - ua-cam.com/video/vhExkmWKMEU/v-deo.html. Makes me love Floor even more
After Forever was the supporting act for Nightwish when they toured through Europe a long time ago.
@@black4pienus oooo I can't remember if that was explained in the documentary. Must rewatch now
Just for yourself, watch the Tampere version of this song. It's basically their home turf and they pull out all the stops. You will be amazed at what they do with the show. No Dawkins live but the show is astounding. Keep in mind that Tuomas wrote everything for this including the orchestration.
I concur !
I concur
I Concur
I concur. This Wembley performance was how YT introduced me to Nightwish, so it is special to me, but Tampere is great also for some differences and dramatic elements. Watch all the way through the credits for the final spoken part.
i concur
I think the Tampere 2015 performance of this song was even better. It doesn't have the E-Bow, though because Troy uses different instuments there. Everybody in Nightwish uses only one instrument except Troy that seems to be able to play any instrument known to man and in addition he sings, too.
My favourite part of the song? The bit between the beginning and the end!
Where they got Floor... Well her band had broken up, she was recovering from burn out and she was literaly in her sister's weddings. That's when they called her and asked "We are in middle of world tour and need singer, could you learn setlist in 48 hours?" oh and fly from Netherlands to Seattle while learning setlist. And she agreed... 😅
The whole song, as it goes through the beginning of time, to human evolution and it’s self destruction, to the beautiful message about cherishing the life we have, and we’re lucky that we get to die, because we were lucky to be born. This is a masterpiece from beginning to end 💖
I have been a lifelong Pink Floyd fan for 49 of my 57 years and will always be, but that track has rocketed up to become my most favourite track of all time.
The passion showed by the band for that work of art is second to none and the talent of everyone involved is unparalleled by anyone in the modern world.
Floor Jansen is such a great singer with such an amazing range 😍
Thanks for sharing
The fact that Floor belts out with such power on the LAST song of the setlist is beyond amazing
Kitee 1996 for so simple a beginning endless songs most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are been , composed.
Hail to the Queen, the Poet, the Riff-maker, the Groove master, the Piper of Heaven and to the Beat Lord ! Nightwish Army Italy present ! 🤘
20 minutes of epicness. I’ll go top up my wine come back and settle in.
Now go watch the version from Tampere in 2015 - it was their 20th anniversary concert in front of their hometown crowd so they loaded up on the pyrotechnics, plus Floor's parents were in the crowd. The sound is much better on that version - this version always seems a bit muddy and dark. If you do, watch it all the way to the end of the credits.
I concur!
I totally endorse everything about the Tampere version and comment.
I also concur!
I concur
While Tampere is the superior visual performance, Wembley's audio mix is far better balanced. Perhaps you find it muddied because you can actually hear EVERYTHING happening, where as with Tampere. there's instruments buried way down in the mix, and are nearly inaudible. It's all a matter of taste in terms of what your ears prefer, but technically speaking, this version is mixed better.
The outro music, with orchestra and chorus, is also composed by Tuomas.
Yeas that part is called "The Understanding"
Nightwish Army USA Wisconsin Chapter here and 19 year Nightwish fan ... John , I really enjoy your breakdowns and facial expressions when watching the "Genius" of Tuomas Holopainen and Nightwish . Very happy you chose to enter the Rabbit hole and join us all in enjoying their masterpieces . I dont have a favorite part of this song to be honest , its all epic to me .. the evolution of the universe , the evolution of earth , the evolution of man , and the evolution of music all in a 20 minute song : This is one of Tuomas and Nightwish's Big 3 epic Tales . Keep watching , there is plenty more to delve into . The more you watch them , the more you understand why Tuomas IS The Metal Mozart !!! Looking forward to your next nightwish enjoyment , until then , take care .
I discovered nightwish on my 70th birthday. Just can't get enough when I love to see how other people react to these creat. Bty, they will eat their way into your brain and will never leave.
🤩👌💥💯

🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
I loved how Tuomas incorporated the evolution of music as well. So brilliant!
He uses an e-bow, you can see it when they perform "while your lips are still red" in the same concert. Also the guy with the ebow is not the main guitarist, he's the guy playing the pipes
Guess you meant 'while your lips are still red'.
@@peterpritzl3354 red, yeah. Blame my keyboard predictions
Yep, Troy plays the e-bow.
My son was born to this song 😂 it was freaking Epic!
I just had it playing in the delivery room lol I wasn’t at the concert and then went into labor, just to be clear😂
Night Wish ( Shoemaker ) live in a Virtual World 2021 is awesome.
Yes it is, but live at Hellfest is even better. Giving goosebumps to 70.000+ people
@@littleraven28 And the nighttime performance at Deichbrand 2022 is even better. But I love Hellfest 2022 as well... it's just that it is not Night. By the way, props for the way you support our beloved Nightwish with Floor.
@@rickphil9999 aww thanks Richard. I agree with you that a performance at night is even better. There is just something magical about night performances, when the light show is full blast. I can't wait to see them one more time before the hiatus. (Outside & at night) 🖤🤘🏼
There are so many “hidden gems” that Tuomas included in the lyrics & the music.
17:00 The musical tributes start with some African tribal drumming, then through the Gregorian chant in Dies Irae (Mozart), Bach’s Minuet in G Major followed by his famous Fugue in D Minor, followed by American banjo music, Metallica’s Enter Sandman riff (!!!), finally ending in Rap/Hip-Hop and 90s dance music.
Pretty Good isn’t it?!!
Plus starting with some throat singing ?
To watch you connect and be absorbed by this performance John, shows what Nightwish is all about. Yes I watched you to the end...lol.
This is not a master piece. This is THE master piece
Tbf Tuomas wrote MANY master pieces ;)
@@Morrodin182 very true
I love Floor when she first comes in, then her rhythmic speaking, then her a-tonal melodic moment. Love the e-bow! Troy is amazing!
Thank you for reacting to Nightwish. This is how we play music in Finland.😉👍
Floor was made for Nightwish and nobody knew it. But the cosmic forces knew this and contributed to the gathering between her and this band. 😁
Oh thank God, finally!!! This is the best of the best!
What a deep emotional impact for Tuomas at the end, seeing the crowd reacting to his music
And what a joy it must have been for professor dawkins seeing all these people looking at him, following his words silently
watch the Docu "learn the checklist in 48 hours". the story how Floor came to Nightwish..
Hello friend, thank you. Amazing reaction. You understand the Song. 🤘🤘🤗greetings from nothern Germany
My favourite part of this song is crying with people discovering it for the first time and understanding where we stand as a species.
Also, the fireworks you missed from Tampere performance. :D
I'm sure you're up to date by now. :)
My favorite part.. From when Marko joins Floor for real and to the end.. also…. The “WE WERE HERE” part always chokes me up and literally bring me to tears.
Same, I love the entire song obviously, but WE WERE HERE always gives me goosebumps and brings me to tears. It's such an affirmation.
I cry every time
A lot of people will say Tampere version, but there are things I like about both. Both amazing shows, but yeah. Definitely watch both. :)
I do fee that this song is one of the crowning achievements of mankind, and if anything of our civilization was to be found in the future, it should be this. We were here!
What’s my favorite part of the song? ALL OF IT. There’s no way for me to pick a single favorite part. If I had to, I’d probably say the triumphantly defiant “WE WERE HERE!” If *any* song can make you feel good about your existence, either individually or collectively, this has to be it. No matter what the “careless, cold infinity in every vast direction” does…that cannot be taken away. We were here.
My favourite part of the song is the very beginning. The very first note. Because that's the longest point we have until the end of the song.
I concur
my favourite song of all time
My favorite part is definitely when the band comes in at the end of the first monologue. That part gives me shivers every time, and it might just be my favorite part of any song I've ever heard.
From the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album, the first recorded with Floor and Kai. It's about the formation of the solar system and the evolution of life on Earth. Inspired by the Richard Dawkins book of the same name. That's Dawkins himself on the spoken parts, and on stage at the end. That part onstage is quote from Darwin's book, the Origin of Species.
Yes, Troy is playing a guitar with EBOW at the beginning. In the Tampere 2015 version , he plays the Irish Low whistle there. (check that out later, outside with fireworks). Your 'What?' just before the first spoken part was Troy playing the Uilleann(ill-en or ill-yen) pipes. The Irish bagpipes, which uses a bellows squeezed by the elbow to inflate the bag. Uilleann is the Gaelic word for elbow.
The grunts were done by all 3, Marko, Troy, and Floor.
Some of the references in the song:
L.U.C.A. -last universal common ancestor, the last life form from which all current life on Earth descends.
Lucy of the Afar- the oldest (at the time of discovery in 1974) human ancestor remains found in the Afar in Africa, dating to about 3.2 million years.
God of the gaps, whenever mankind didn't understand something, they created a god to explain it.
Enter ratkind,- Some theories say rats will take over when mankind's time has ended.
Yes, he did!!! It WAS the Enter Sandman riff, and there were several pieces of music around it, including by J.S.Bach, and EDM. The evolution of music.
WE WERE HERE!!!!
Favorite part of the song?? All of it. lol
Since you liked the EBOW- While Your Lips Are Still Red at this same Wembley show. (Marko lead vocal)
And for more Uilleann pipes- I Want My Tears Back at Buenos Aires 2018.
The fact that professor Dawkins was on stage is just so epic that nothing beats it. I will second I Want My Tears Back from Buenos Aires 2018. It it just so much fun, that it makes me want to travel to Argentina to a NW concert. I am from 🇫🇮
"In a twenty minute song, I can't freaking wait to see what they are going to put into this." Everything. Literally. From the formation of the solar system to today and beyond.
When I first saw this, I was as much in awe as you are in this video. I never thought I would get to see this live, and that they would do this 20 minute song only in special situations, yet there I was at their show in Dublin last November, Floor was just recovering from her surgery and when she was speaking it was clear she was not fully recovered yet, but in her singing I never spotted anything was wrong. And then after they played Ghost Love Score I was kind of expecting some classics to come, but instead they played The Greatest Show on Earth, and I could barely close my mouth so amazed I was.
Hands down best gig I have ever been to.
As much as folks recommend the Tampere version, the intro played by Troy is completely different here and having watched the other a bunch this is really cool.
I prefer Troy playing on Wembly versus the woodwind he uses at Tampere.
I prefer this version where you can see more of the musicians.
I like both versions.
It really shows that Nightwish concerts are never the same or boring.
I love the Buenos Aires version too :D
I play the guitar so I would be inclined to prefer the wembley version... but the inclusion of the woodwind in the Tempere version adds to the significance of the song. Woodwind were invented before the pipes that Troy plays, so the continuity presented in the song's story is better represented in the choice of instruments imo.
Dude, that's the London gig, I was there!! THE best gig ever \m/
Awww. I was so excited to see a reaction to live at Tampere but this is a different one.
We Were Here !-Gets me every time !
Love the nod to Metalica right before she sings a line about sand! ☺
My favorite part was the part between the first note and the final note. 🎵🎶🎸🥁🎵🎶🎸🎶🎵
If you watch again, please watch Tampere version. We are never tired of this song, so you can record another reaction 😂
The juxtaposition of her insane range and presence and this bands hard hitting insane talent is incredible
Absolutely kickass. Kai in Beast Mode …Everyone performing at the very highest level….as usual🤘
Thanks for this, John. One of the best of many. I'm an old man now and have been a Nightwish army member for some years. I don't believe in regrets, but I will "go to the grate" regretting that I wasn't at the Wacken 2013 concert (especially). It would be embarrassing to share how many times I've watched the DVD of that concert, and so many reactions to their videos, yours most of all. The individual and collective talent is overpowering and NEVER gets old. So glad you found your way to Nightwish. Cheers.
What an amazing song, what a perspective it gives...Being there seeing them performing this live, singing your lungs out with your people by your side it is truly an out of body experience!
We are one
We are a universe
We were here
Nobody can listen to Nightwish just once, eh?
Listen every day 😅
It's not possible ! Nightwish are the best Symphonic Metal Band On Our Planet By Far 😝👍 Nightwish Disciple from Australia 🇦🇺🏄♂️🍹
@@stevewilson8752 Best band full stop. I'd not heard of Nightwish or Floor until 14 months ago and at 56 years of age I thought that I had heard it all but no. Blown away by this band.
@Paul Outdoors Yep We all blown away by them hey ! Talented musicians ! Great singer in Floor & Marco 😝👍 I tell everyone I'm my circle about Nightwish & Get them to listen to Nightwish with headphones on to get a close up experience with them 😊🇦🇺🏄♂️
@@stevewilson8752 Same here Steve. I have got some friends in to Nightwish and Floor who, like me, had not heard of them. Crazy world hey 😊
I always, ALWAYS cry at the end of this video. It brings so much emotions in me.
Wow, just fucking WOW.
If you want to know how Nightwish got Floor watch 'Please learn the set list in 48 hours' They called Floor whilst at her sisters wedding and when she returned the call Nightwish begged her to get them out of a bad spot. It just makes the journey so much more than a line up change.🐺❤️

I agree watch the Tampere version it's brilliant, in fact react to it, you have a very expressive face and don't really need to say anything. After watching this I bought Richard Dawkins The God Delusion, it's heavy going makes you understand the song more. Excellent reaction to this awesome band🇬🇧
Really enjoyed watching this with you. Thank you.
I love the whole song but my favorite part is the hunting part- it's so scary! Also love that Bach part. And the end "We were here" and "We are going to die and that makes us the lucky ones..." - it gaves me chills every time I hear it.
I just found your channel, and it's been seven months since you posted this video, but I just wanted to tell I saw them live in Tampere, Finland. They ended the show with this song. When the song began the sun was starting to set. When this song ended, it was dark (or as dark as it gets in the summer, which isn't very dark this north) and fireworks went off. The whole show was amazing, but being both a metalhead and a nature nerd, this song was an incredibly emotional experience. It's difficult to listen to this song without crying.
Tampere!!!
We were here....
Best wishes from Namibia
My favorite part of this song? Yes all of it.
Epicness right there on that stage. A masterpiece performed to perfection. The best band of any genre ever. Thank you John. 🙏😊👍❤️
WE WERE HERE! 🌎
Floor has been an amazing addition to NW. I have been her fan since the first album of After Forever. And I followed whereever she went. NW has been the best place for her and I couldn't be happier.
I think this song is one of those life changing exprienciences, at least it was for me. The final "WE WERE HERE" always makes me emotional. With good and bad things Humanity existed and left a mark on the universe. ❤
Thank you, this is my favorite version!! 🙏🤘👍👍
Favourite part? Are you fucking kidding, John? Seriously?
Just the whole thing.
Great reaction, dude!
🤘😎🤘
Almost didn't watch this cause it's wrong version. This sounds like album version, but in Tampere there is so much more in it!
I like you so I had to watch...
Great reaction. Wembley is awesome but you need to checkout Tampere if only for yourself. Even more epic with the stage extending out into the crowd, fireworks synched to the music, Floor's sorceress outfit, and Troy playing his Irish Low Whistle instead of the e-bow. My favorite parts are Tuomas's minimalist piano in the beginning, Floor's epic entrance, her mystical chanting, and that epic outro with music straight from the climatic scene in a hero movie and that incredibly impactful quote from Richard Dawkins. Song always leaves me uplifted and hopeful and makes me think about what I have done and what I need to do with my brief time in this universe.
the rumour is Floor is actually Odins gatherer of souls. She came down to collect a few, got distracted and now sings in a band instead. Shes captured millions of souls since!
This version is as beautiful as Tampere. Nice reaction John.
My favorite part of the song is all of it 💁❤️
Love you reaction man 😜 keep up
Definitely all of it ❤
"We were here" always makes me tear up. And I love how you called Tuomas a mad scientist.
I like the quote from Pip Williams regarding Tuomas, who cleaned up some of Tuomas' orchestration (Tuomas sometimes demands more from instruments than any human can actually produce, even if the instrument is technically capable of it) and directed the London Metro Voices, London Philharmonic Orchestra and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir for all of the "classical" backing - "Well, he's a fucking genius, isn't he!". Mad scientist fits well too though.
@@phillee2814 Oh, I haven't heard that yet, good to know :)
Watch the documentary please learn the setlist in 48 hours, thats the story they found floor
I don’t think I could learn to tie my shoelaces in 48 hours let alone joining the band and evolving into the masterpiece that was Wacken Open Air Festival in 2013.
@@michaelneuss7554 it was just a suggestion
@@ceciellepeters4696 I was not meaning anything by my response. Certainly no disrespect. Sorry.
My favorite part of the song, as you asked, is on the Tampere, Finland performance at Ratina Stadion. I don't need describe it, as you will immediately recognize what it is when you see it! 😉
You got a new subscriber. I´ve watched this video a lot of times and this reaction made me feel as it was the first time again. Thank you
My favorite part easily is in the beginning of the toolmaker, the transition from the grunts and tribal drums to the heavy metal part with floor windmilling her hair! Gets me every time! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
If your gonna watch it again then definitely the show in Tampere, Finland. Still a surprise left in this performance for you.
I know the Tampere version is more popular but - from a personal POV - I rate this one more highly. I really really like the E-bow, I think that sound is so amazing and otherworldly and fitting, that isn't done in Tampere - Troy uses a woodwind instrument instead.
I also think it is a shame Tampere was at twilight which takes awake some of the ambient intent of the lighting the digital screens, and the on stage effects. As the song begins with us tumbling through space as the solar system is being formed, the darkness of the Wembley auditorium helps with the effect. The lighting is a choice. The staging is a decision. A Nightwish show of this type is as much a theatrical experience as a music concert.
The Greatest Band on Earth !!!!!!
Tampere and Wembly both have their strong points. Hard to choose between them really. They are a different experience though, so it us best to see both of them
When she's speaking in the monotone it's something about it it wow it just send shivers keep rocking bro
I love this! Knowing what the song is about when they get to We Were Here I tear up every time. Human Beings were here!
I was at this gig. It was an out of body experience x
Love this song.
Personally I prefer the Wembly performance.
I know a lot of people like Tampere, but the Wembly show is way better imho
Awesome reaction. I am a goodmusic fan all the way.
The last WE WERE HERE live is something that I can't describe in English. That feeling!
My favourite part is the section between the start and the end! ;-) And it is, indeed, an epic performance.
the girl at the front is a LEGEND
This is Tuomas' masterpiece he organised and composed everything and yeah he is also so good at piano 🤘
Correct John. It is an Ebow that Troy is using. This is Tuomas' grand opus. His tribute to life on the planet and the universe itself. You my friend are part of The Greatest Show on Earth!
This was the first song Nightwish preformed when they came to St. Louis a few years back. My husband and I had not heard it before and didn't not fully appreciate the song. After listening to it a few times on the CD from the concert, this has become my favorite song of theirs. This video is my favorite one. This beats 'Story time' for my favorite album.
I have heard this song countless times, whether it be in the car, in reactions like this or just sitting in my room with it blaring... Nothing touches the genius. Richard Dawkins lines at the end give me such hope and perspective on life.
What @Johnlindquist said about Tampere is pretty much spot on - Fun fact about that show though, the one in Tampere: If I remember correctly, Floor only had the weekend to prepare and memorize the songset, because she was still super new at the time.
It's such a joy watching your reactions to Nightwish :) `I prefer this one over the Tampere one. I just love the intro of the song with Troy and the e-bow. And I love seeing the emotions of the audience at the end when Richard Dawson starts to speak. Al the best from The Netherlands!
Bro, just the intro and I am already tearing up. Enter Floor and the water works are on full flow. Yes John, she was born for this, in fact they were all born for this. They are unequaled and I will never get enough of Nightwish with Floor. Semper Fi 🤘🤘
Agree 100%
"The Poet and the Pendulum", the other master piece from this same Wembley concert next, please!
I concur. Although, I'm not sure if I'm ready to hear that song again.
Annette was out (complicated) and Floor was hired in to end the tour. They loved her so much they ask her to be lead singer. There is a video about it all
A true masterpiece ✨ The Greatest Show On Earth is one for the ages.
Quoting Darwin at a metal concert. Gorgeous
Favorite part of the song... all of it, this song if perfection start to finish. Although the "we were here" always gets me. I saw them live last year and I couldn't be more dehydrated, and still maneged to ugly cry.
Just for your own enjoyment, just watch the Tampere version. Keep these reactions flowing! Cheers from Buenos Aires!
My favorite part of this epic song was to sing We were here" while holding carrying my daughter in my arms at one of their concerts in San Jose California
I love this song! It is one of my favourite Nightwish songs... It is so EPIC!
