  • Anything, no matter how small, that causes pain, discomfort, is essentially bad for the body, and weakens us is not something that should be trivialised. We, as Indians, are blessed with the sun almost all around the year, but, even then a majority of us are severely deficient in vitamin D. No matter which field you specialise in as a doctor, and no matter which social class do you belong as a patient, please be aware of these very annoying symptoms that follow vitamin D deficiency. It is especially crucial for growing children, women of reproductive age group, post-menopausal ladies, and elderly. I was preparing for my DM Neurology exam and I remember, very vividly, crying all day in the library because of the severe body and mid-back pains that I used to have in those days. It was so bad that even sitting on a chair was terribly difficult for me. And when I got my vitamin D checked, it was extremely low. The point of sharing this personal experience is that I do NOT wish anybody else to go through those horrific pains and aches. Moreover, you cannot ignore this because of how crucial this fat-soluble vitamin is in preventing a motley of neurological disorder, even the likes of multiple sclerosis.
