  • Electrolyte shifts can cause problems when you are starting the ketogenic way of eating, including causing the keto-flu. The ketoflu is not the real flu, and is not contagious, but can make you feel yucky for a few days.
What if you had a tasty, sparkling drink you could sip on that would optimize your electrolytes, keep you hydrated and get rid of the ketoflu? We’ve been working on a recipe for just such a nutritious drink for almost a month, and here it is.
YES... We know about limes and lemons... so just disregard that.
You will want to make this drink in a glass container (we use a quart/liter glass jar). Plastic can have some negative health properties, and doesn’t react well with some essential oils. We tried to keep the ingredients as simple as possible so you would have access to them, no matter where you live.
Make at least a quart at at time so you have enough to last all day.
    In a quart/liter glass container: amzn.to/2pxwR2P
    • Juice from 1/2 Lime/Lemon
    • 2 Tablespoons of REAL Apple Cider Vinegar
    amzn.to/2HTG5x4
    • ½ Tsp of Nu-Salt (also called No-Salt/Lite-Salt)
    amzn.to/2HQrwu0
    • ½ Tsp of unprocessed Sea Salt (pink, gray, black)
    amzn.to/2GcO0bq
    • 5-10 drops of organic Stevia extract amzn.to/2IEyzHA
    • Fill the rest of the way with Sparkling Water (San Pelle-
    grino/Perrier/Voss) amzn.to/2IExS0W
*You could even add a dropperful of Magnesium if you were having muscle spasms, constipation, or trouble sleeping. Here’s the kind we use: amzn.to/2GfeNE6
You can tweak the amount of stevia, lime/lemon, and essential oils to make your Ketorade taste the way you want it. Leave off the Stevia if you’ll be drinking this during your fasting window.
There is sooo much going on to optimize your health and electrolytes in this Ketorade. Let us know how your tweak yours…

So are limes unripe lemons, or are they a different fruit entirely? When lemons are fully ripe and ready to be picked they’re a bright and vibrant yellow, while limes are more commonly green. If you leave a lime on a tree until it’s completely ripe it will oftentimes turn yellow, which is why some people think that limes are just unripe lemons. They are not.

Lemons and limes have a very similar nutrition profile, and are from the same family of plant, but they are NOT the same. It is not like when you grow bell peppers and you can pick them green, or let them mature into yellow or red color. They are the SAME plant.

In the Summer, my Mother always used to serve Cucumbers, fresh from the garden, as part of dinner (supper to you). She would place the sliced cucumbers in a serving bowl, then put salt and pepper on them. Then she would add some apple cider vinegar to the bowl, and put some iced cubes on top to chill the cucumbers. After eating the cucumbers at dinner, I would always drink the vinegar/water/salt/pepper/cucumber juice mixture. Mom used to always tease me about it, but I guess my body knew what it wanted. The reason for this whole long story: Consider adding some pepper to your recipe. I don't know how you would add cucumber juice.

Dr. Ken and Crew, I have been experimenting with this recipe because like you, I hate the ACV smell and taste. Here is my current solution. I double the batch so one lime or lemon (usually I use double the fruit so one of each) then a teaspoon each of salt and no salt. 2 teaspoons of sweetener (I like it a little more sweet) and 2 oz of ACV. With the double fruit, this makes about 4 oz of liquid. At this point, you would need approx 60 oz of water but I do not add it at this point. I cap and shake the mixture and put it in the fridge. Then add 1 oz to a 16 oz glass when I am ready to drink and add my sparkling water. You can use something like bubly or truly if you want added flavor. This keeps the sparkle in the water which seems to go flat pretty quickly after opening.

Dr Berry, I can't thank you enough for this fabulous recipe! Back in April 2023, I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and changed my diet completely. I gave up all alcohol and sugar and refined flour, limiting fruit to only occasionally and only in the berry family, began a successful intermittent fasting protocol, and added exercise to my daily routine - HOWEVER instead of my glucose levels lowering, they actually increased! My fasting glucose unexplainably rose from 110 to 121 over the course of three months. After seeing this wonderful video, I began treating myself daily to this delicious Ketoade. I LOVE the flavor! And here I am today, about 3 weeks later, with a fasting glucose lowered down to 108! I'm still prediabetic however I feel so much better knowing I'm heading back in the right direction and am now confident once again that I will reach my goal. Because of some other health concerns, my naturopathic practitioner wants to see my fasting glucose at 90 which I'm now certain I will get there over time. Thank you so much. May God bless you and your wife for sharing truth and encouragement for those of us with health issues we're trying to resolve naturally.

We did 24 hr lemans type races and our nutritionist back in the early 90's, had this mix we had to drink for days prior. The only thing we did different, no oils..and added an ounce of orange juice to this exact mix. If we sipped on this for 2 days, eventually it hydrates without constant peeing, to a point of no dehydration during the race. Worked like a charm and we won many races due to endurance and less fatigue as a driver. Great content!

I said, "We need more of the yellow & green lemons😂" One of my best friends I worked with thought I was joking, but I wasn't. That was the day one of my best friends from high school taught me what a lime was, I had no clue it was different from a lemon. I'm going to re look it up to remind myself. It still makes me smile when I think back to the day I learned they are different things.

I ran across this recipe a couple of weeks ago and tried it. What a hit! So yummy. I used fresh ginger as my flavoring. I make 6-8 servings of your recipe at a time (minus the mineral water). I take the ACV and the lemon juice and put about 9 grams of ginger per serving in my micro blender ( the 16 oz Ninja cup). I blend it maybe 3-4 seconds and then let it sit about 10 minutes to allow as much of the gingerols and other micronutrients to escape the particles of ginger. I strained the mixture, added the salt and potassium (No Salt) and give it a good stirring to dissolve as much of the salts as possible. I store this mixture in a small glass jar with a drink cozy around it to reduce light. When I want a drink, I shake the mixture again and add btwn 1-2 table spoons it to my iced fizzy mineral water . Tastes like apple ginger ale (I use homemade ACV). Soooo good. Thank-you for this recipe. Watching your videos has been very helpful...my A1C is down from 7.4 to 6.2 and I have lost 65 pounds. I have no more arthritis and the mild peripheral neuropathy I was developing in my toes is almost gone. I am a work in progress. Perseverance Furthers! It did not need an essential oil as the lime soda killed the vinegar smell. Also what this did was creating a very pleasant, not over sweet drink, that I enjoy cold or room temperature. NOTE: the bottle of lime soda is 1 quart 1.8 oz and the stevia added 1 gram of carbs to the total drink.

My family had a fruit orchard when I was growing up. We had a lot of different fruit trees including lime trees, lemon trees & avocado trees, plus berries and honey from our own hives. We loved having all those fresh fruits right at our fingertips almost year round. All the neighborhood kids would get together to make fresh limeade & lemonade every summer.

I'll join in the lime v lemon debate. They are different. Although some lime can eventually ripen to yellow, they are still limes. They are different fruit from different trees. I have a lime tree and a lemon tree. Even the leaves when you crumple them, smell different. The leaves are different sizes. But there are many lime varieties and many lemon varieties!

We had a Key Lime tree in our yard and had amazing oil in the peel which was a beautiful green when ripe. They also had much more and lower Ph juice than the much larger chain grocery store limes. When they stayed on the tree too long they turned yellow and lost their flavor and got tough.

Dr. Berry, you are the first person whom showed me about Keto. I have since educated myself about it. In 2014 I had 200 lbs to lose. I am 6'0 and just turned 50. On Plexus I lost 122 lbs but it wasn't a diet of sorts.(Just supplements) I have begun Keto with you and 3 other professionals educating me. I am AMAZED!! Going into my 5th week. I have lost 5 lbs and TONS OF INCHES!!! Especially in my stomach, hips, thighs and arms. Just EVERYWHERE!! I am hypoglycemic so diabetes is NOT an issue but Stevia is a sugar I have here at the house. I have been using it. I LOVE REAL FOOD!! And carbs, sodas were just FILLERS anyway. Thank you for educating the public!! Long ago, I made a contagion of Apple cider, honey, lemon juice and 8 oz and water for UTI. I couldn't handle the taste either. NOW!! I would just do Stevia instead of Honey. Thanks again!! AND... congrats on your newborn son!!

We been making keto lemonade for years w Bragg's.. magnesium and potassium powders unflavored so it's less salty. Tasting.. we have even harvested sea salt ..from the ocean..before.We help a lady on the island who makes sea salt scrubs...w essential oils.. wanted to harvest some for consumption... Now we use a mixture of sea salts and iodine salts.. (for the added iodine.). as well as dehydrated lemon Soo good!!!! Crushed iced and have experimented with some flavored stevias. But at the end of the day we just love the sparking Voss..w lemon ,acv, stevia drop and the electrolyte powders. I love to mask the vinegar w** true lemon dehydrated.. lemon... so tart and tangy.. as well as add lemon juice. And We use a few Glugs.. of the acv.. but after u have drank it for years.. it's good and you almost have to increase the acv.. because u start to strangely crave the taste... **We also make ice cubes with it.. and just add them to our daily waters...and water bottles.. to hide any strong smell.. and without having the oils. It's delish though. Whole Foods in big cities sell grape cinnamon and lime Bragg's w the mother in premixed versions. I think on the braggs website as well... So you can just add the electrolytes to that. But we enjoy making our own it's fun... Post on Instagram a while back. Now you guys need to make some cooking videos......👍👌😘 Love it !!!

Thanks for the informative videos on Keto (which is pretty much just the Atkin's Diet, given a different name. Pity there were no social media platforms back when Atkin's was preaching his theories - we'd have all been healthier 30 - 40 years ago.
Just a tip - You'd be better off adding your concoction to the sparkling water bottle - rather than the sparkling water to the jar. All that frothing that you were so excited about, was your fizz leaving your drink. Thus you'll have a flat drink (rather than sparkling) a lot sooner.... (Or at least chill the sparkling water first, because when you pour any fizzy drink that is room temperature - you get that excessive frothing). In addition to that - if you drank straight from the sparkling water bottle (which has a narrow spout) - then you won't get that smell you don't like from the apple cider vinegar.
