Absolutely incredible. This sounds so good playing on an Apple TV with 6-speaker Home Pod system. Awesome bass, smooth rolling tones. I used to warn my students about generating infinite loops. Now, I’m creating one for this video! I’m saving up $$$$ for my Matriarch, and I can’t wait to try your patch. I’m def subscribing to your channel. 🥰
@@riotbell5365 Ordered my Matriarch. On back order until September. In the meantime, I’ve purchased a couple of Mother-32s and DFAMs. Already having some fun.
@@riotbell5365 I think Back to te Future should’ve swapped out the Delorean for a Moog because several hours slipped by in what seemed like a few minutes, so enjoyable!
@@riotbell5365 It is possible to buy the patch from you? I'd like to set up my Matriarch to play this for giving birth :) You can listen to my self-gen music here. Emika - Chaos Star open.spotify.com/album/7f84MkERwkUXIW5l55ophP?si=XozvJOtdSB6yud5rBhcWvw
I just put this to play, went to other tabs to continue my work, now my work is done, have to shut down the computer and go, but can't cause I can't stop listening to this and I am hypnotised ;)
Thank you so much for this - it is really amazing. I just (finally!) got a Grandmother - although I don't see myself achieving what you have, I do hope to explore it for some ambient stuff.
Thanks! Don't sell yourself short. I'm sure you'll pull some amazing stuff out of the GM. Most of what I've posted on this channel is little more than some very lucky noodling!
Incredible stuff. Very Eno-esque! This sort of thing requires patience and discipline, which I can totally respect. I look forward to more of your stuff. Subscribed!
That's super kind of you to say. I love spending hours making a patch and then letting the machine do its thing. Not the most performative way to engage with synths, but definitely my preference.
Honestly, I can't remember. I'm guessing it was a low 1-3-5 progression with a relatively slow clock. The staggered steps on the oscillators are providing a lot of the variation.
Thanks! I've been promising folks patch diagrams for months, but just haven't been able to find the free time with the holidays and all. I hope to get back to work on the channel soon and try to add the patch diagrams asap.
Thanks so much for your patience. I've had a lot going on at work and home over the last six months. I love making patch videos, but it's just been on the back burner lately. I hope to get back to making videos and updating patches soon, but things need to settle down a bit first.
Love it, great sounding patch! I have one question: I can see that you patched VCF1 (input signa for filter) by randomized LFO. What is the point here? I thought VCF is rather for audio (hearable) signal not controll signal.
You know, it's been a while since I made this patch, so I'm really not sure. In all likelihood, it could just be an unnecessary patch point left over from a previous patch. Honestly, sometimes I get a sound going and really like it, and I'm afraid to pull any cables for fear I'm going to screw something up, even if the cable seems unnecessary!
@riotbell I just got my Matriarch tonight, and thought I’d try this patch. Would you happen to have a diagram of this patch? I tried to copy it, but the reflections on some of the knobs make it hard to see where the actual settings are, even at 4K video. I did get something generative, but it seems to be 1 - 2 octaves down. Thanks in advance!
I've been promising patch diagrams forever. My apologies for not delivering. Life has just kind of got in the way of working on this UA-cam channel. My plan is to get on modulargrid and get the patch outlines up. Maybe work on some more Matriarch videos as well. Just need to find the time.
@@riotbell5365 As a suggestion, you could always rebuild the patch, and upload an overhead picture in good lighting for a UA-cam short. Yeah, the knobs the Matriarch are so shiny, it’s hard to see the exact setting for sure… I’m still learning a lot about the Matriarch, and that these are analog synths… so every one will be ever so slightly different.
@@NexxuSix Thanks for the suggestion. I imagine it might be helpful to likewise provide the randomized sequence with notes. One of the fun aspects of generative music is that it's always a bit different each time around. I'm sure I couldn't perfectly recreate the patch in the video if I spent hours trying to replicate it.
This is just the Matriarch. Basically just running a randomized arpeggio in hold mode. The Grandmother could do something similar, but a lot of this is made possible by the delay on the Matriarch as well as the randomized LFO, which I don't believe the Grandmother has.
Honestly, I can't remember. I want to say no, based on the way the cables are running out of the Matriarch (I normally run a reverb right next to the machine). If I did it was the Oto Bam, which remains the only reverb I use on any of these pieces.

Glad you were able to follow it. Those dark Matriarchs look so menacing. Hope you have fun experimenting.

Great patch! Lovely and just the right level of simplicity to sustain long play. Thanks for sharing. :)

How did you achieve the "randomization" of your arps?
Thanks! Just flip the direction switch to RND and arps or sequencer will be randomized.
Is this possible on the grandmother? is this only the matriarch doing this? I'd love to learn something here.
