Oh DAMN I just realised you posted this on the exact day my baby was born - that’s so trippy cos I was literally telling you in a different track it is the perfect sound to be born to So crazy
@@star.trails Nice to see there's no dedicated reverb module in the patch. All are the included algorithms inside Beads, Clouds and Mimeophon. What's your opinion about Halo parameter? it could replace a reverb module in any way or is it too rare for that? I'm still listening to this now, hehehe, super airy and evolutive. 👏
@@music4screens I love the reverb in Beads, it's sounds so nice. The Halo reverb is kind of like a strange spring verb. I personally wouldn't have it as my only reverb in the case, others might - I guess it comes down to taste
Thank you so much for releasing this long-form track. Five or six minutes is honestly not enough time to enjoy your beautiful patches. I have had a headache this morning, making it difficult to focus on work. This music has melted away my tension and is alleviating the headache . This is the only thing I'm listening to today as I loop it continuously. Keep making this healing music! One more thing. I see that you are on bandcamp now and would love to have you make this track available there so that I can support you for all of the joy I've received from listening to your channel. Thanks!
Thanks, David - I really appreciate your support, it means a lot to me. As a sufferer of migraines I completely understand how difficult it is to function with a headache. It's good to know that this patch helped you out 😊I will always be making music and putting it out there, it helps to keep me stay positive about life in general. I'll get this piece up onto my Bandcamp page for you sometime today.
This is wonderful. I've been messing around with keyboard synths for 20 years, and completely fascinated with the modular world and no idea where to start. Who can I pay for comprehensive patching tutorials and synth build! Please help me get started!
Thanks so much 🙏🙏 It can be quite intimidating at first. The best way is to always start out small, buy a few core modules and start from there. The fundamentals don't actually change from fixed architecture synths to modular synths. The same applies in modular except you connect the oscillators, envelopes, VCAs and filters with cables. @Lightbath has a patreon and he does lessons. He also has a large selection on videos on his yt account. I highly recommend that you watch his ‘Joy of Patching’ videos. Part 1: ua-cam.com/video/mKT5MAW1RlA/v-deo.htmlsi=Ae_6Y9ar8kPnQ1di
Thanks mate! The case is the Intellijel 7U 84HP. The other modules in it are the Disting EX, Zadar, Ripples, Plaits, 2hp Loop, Disting mk3, FX Aid XL, Veils, Ornament & Crime (1U), Intellijel Duatt 1U/Stereo Mixer 1U/Buff Mult 1U and Stereo Line Out 1U
how long did it take you to set up all the patches? How long did it take you to learn how to do it? I’d like a nice basic ambient setup like this for my plant room, but I don’t have the time to invest in learning because I have special needs children and also a full time job. Im so sorry to say, I’m so boujee (busy?) that I would love to just buy a full stack like this that’s been set up by a passionate creator and be able to ask questions here and there. Any suggestions for busy mom like me? @@star.trails
nice. what slices did u chopped onto that reel on Morphagene. Some audio from this patch? (same idea like some audio snippet from rings mentioned somewhere below in comments?). Just got a clone of Marbles, bt now I am thinking I am missing something like tides and veils, realy handy utilities modules...off to patching now.
thank you. that module beside Clouds is a Mutable Instruments clone of Tides (v2). It's from Michigan Synthworks and is a 8hp uTides. It's sending CV to density and position. CV into pos chooses the segment of the recording buffer from which the audio grains will be played. CV into density affects the grain density. In this case I'm sending a slowish sine wave to change the grain overlap.
I have frozen the buffer. There is a 4 second granulised sample playing back (audio quality: 16kHz 8-bit µ-law stereo 4s). uTides is modulating the CV inputs of position and density. The buffer contains audio from Rings. Since I'm using rings as the main voice I've unpatched it from clouds to send directly into the Mimeophon (via veils for some attenuation). I'm operating Clouds in Granular processor mode (normal operation)
It sounds nice as background, but: odd, patch. Clouds and Veils aren't doing anything? Have you tried adding very slow modulations to the parameters? You have the Zadar for nice long envelopes. Anyway, happy patching and thanks for sharing! :)
There's nothing unusual about this patch! Veils is attenuating the signal from Rings because it was coming into Mimeophon a bit too strong. Clouds is definitely active, holding a 4-second sample in its buffer with freeze mode enabled. I'm using some nice slow CVs from uTides to modulate the position and density on Clouds. uTides is also modulating Morphagene (organise) and Marbles' X bias. Zader is nice, but the developer used low-quality encoders, which makes it almost unusable. Patches don't always have to be complex. I create music that sounds good to me, and when I enjoy it, I consider it finished.
... hello.... sounds might be from rings, but there's a bunch of steps happening after ... morphagene is going through several splices, what is happening there?
Yes, there's several splices of Rings on Morphagene with uTides sending CV to cycle through the splices. Clouds has it's buffer frozen with another Rings sample playing from it. Clouds position and density are receiving CV from uTides.
I've actually moved to a bigger case now (Structure 420 Case). I used this case for a short period because the Make Noise case was under powered and I couldn't house the modules I wanted without power issues. The make noise case is now redundant and will be sold soon. This intellijel case now houses my Buchla 200t modules.
The t2 output on Marbles is the clock output which is going into Tides clock input giving me a tempo lock between both modules. Tides is modulating the bias input on Marbles which is skewing the distribution towards low/high voltages over time with a slow sine wave. This affects the quantised note spread (higher/lower) coming out of x2. The rest of Tides outputs are modulating Clouds and Morphagene. Marble x2 is sending pitched CV to Rings.
Not necessarily. I'm using jitter to create randomness for clock timing. I'm also sending a random envelope to the bias input to bias the decision of the voltage range. Marbles acts a random generator without the t and X engaged.
There are some aspects to this system that are analog, however, in this patch it's nearly all digital except for the use of Veils (VCA). Veils is completely analog
Spending the day with this piece again. There's just something so peaceful about it that none of my other ambient subs can fulfill.

Totally beautiful my friend 👌
thanks so much, Probbie! 😊🙏
Very nice. One of the best, in fact. I'm blown away that such a varied and tonally pleasing "performance" can come out of a generative process.
thanks, I really appreciate it. As long as there are some parameters that are set for generative playback it shouldn't go to far over the edge

Can you recommend something cheap and good for creating ambient music?
Nice ambient sound do you recording the scale on marbles with a keybord? Or marbles do it self?
thanks! The scale on Marbles is set to the first scale (Major). I sometimes program my own scales, but not in this instance
awesome! what other modules are in your setup and what case is that?

Thanks, man. The morph has some samples (splices) of Rings. Yeah, tides and veils are great and highly recommend having them in a system.

@@star.trails Thank you for your answer! 🙏🙏
I see in the clouds there is not sound in, how you are getting the sound from clouds and which modality is?

Hey, awesome track, may I ask how much your setup costed?
Thanks so much. This system is around the 2K USD point including the case.
@@star.trails ah well then not so bad, l thought modula was more expensive :)

Is it STAR TRAILS or START RAILS?
it's Star Trails. But I've always thought that it could read as start rails
... hello.... sounds might be from rings, but there's a bunch of steps happening after ... morphagene is going through several splices, what is happening there?
Yes, there's several splices of Rings on Morphagene with uTides sending CV to cycle through the splices. Clouds has it's buffer frozen with another Rings sample playing from it. Clouds position and density are receiving CV from uTides.

The make noise case is now redundant and will be sold soon. This intellijel case now houses my Buchla 200t modules.
Can you explain what's going on between Tides and Marbles? Is there a feedback loop happening?
The t2 output on Marbles is the clock output which is going into Tides clock input giving me a tempo lock between both modules. one more thing how come yr t an x buttons are dissabled, doesnt that means dejavu is disabled, meaning no randomnes?
Not necessarily. I'm using jitter to create randomness for clock timing. I'm also sending a random envelope to the bias input to bias the decision of the voltage range. Marbles acts a random generator without the t and X engaged.
Is that the 84hp or 104hp?
it's 84hp
