I am so happy to watch you be happy your contagious 😂
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Samda! 🥰
gonna share some advice that was given to me after I had bubbles appear on an old gel plate... When you store your gel plate you wanna use paper on front and back then put it back in the clam shell it came in! You should throw away the acetate plastic it comes with (or repurpose the plastic) the plastic creates air bubbles on the plate you can't remove and will show up on every pull! Anyway great video!!
Thank you for the great tips! 🥰
I've had bubbles appear on my round plate. I took the acetate off immediately. I'll try your idea of papers on both sides in future plates. Now my round plate serves as a palate for mixing.
I’d like to add that liquid starch such as you use for clothing is an awesome cheap alternative for gluing things down with zero warping and it works really is great for medical exam paper glue downs. I’m a home artist and for my purposes of making art for my home it works terrific for 3.49 a half gallon. Check your local laundry aisle!
This is an awesome tip - thank you very much! I'm going to have to give it a whirl 😍
@@PaintedPaperStudio oh my goodness I love this stuff! I just noticed the typos and have corrected them. You need to speak iPhonese to understand my hurried typing at times …😂 May or may not be archival but I’m not applying it to a piece for MOMA. But it will lay things flat as a flitter! Love it! I can’t get any other artist I follow to give it a try! Be the first...lol… love your channel!
@@swl9270 - I don't speak iPhonese - Siri quit me a long time ago 😂😂😂 What brand of liquid starch do you use?
@@PaintedPaperStudio oh Siri and I aren’t friends at all…I just suck at typing in a hurry.
I use Sta Flo. Apparently peeps don’t starch their clothes anymore and I had the dickens of a time finding it in a grocery store.
I just was too impatient to order it online and wait.
You can make your own…just google it but I haven’t tried to do so bc it requires refrigeration and goes bad apparently in a month and ain’t nobody got time for that!
Let me know if you try it and what you think about it!
@@swl9270 I just looked it up on Amazon and was shocked by the price! Then I looked into it - they've discontinued making it, so now the places that sell it are pricing at a premium. I may try one of the "spray" versions. I'll keep you updated.
Jackie, what you share is most interesting and informative and you are a joy to watch!🙏
Thank you Angelita - you are so sweet. 🥰
I have painted on Terraskin paper which is also a mineral paper but mine is quite a bit thicker. Love your videos!!
Thank you, Sharon! I just heard about Terraskin yesterday - do you recall where you got it?
Not off the top of my head, but I will see if I can find it again!
Jackie, thank you for this wonderful introduction to eco-friendly paper💖💖💖. Haven't heard of mineral paper before. The very first brush strokes along with your colour choices were so satisfying to watch. Must be real fun to get creative with it!
The dusty sunset was nice to look at, too🤩! Together with your medical exam paper magical trick you've created a beautiful piece of art that makes the heart sing.
Aloha from Berlin & a beautiful weekend to you ❤🧡💛💚💜
Hello Queen! It turns out it is not exactly eco-friendly, but I talk about that in this week's video: ua-cam.com/video/mFL7xmO1QcQ/v-deo.html It truly is a lovely paper to work with though. 🥰
Thanks!
Thank you very much, Angelita. Your generosity and support mean so much to me. 😍
Thank you for sharing,I bought the paper. It is awesome I love it. Thank you so much. I wish somebody would come down to the desert and hold a class. That would be awesome. You are fantastic you make my day you’re very encouraging. Thank you.

Hi. I really appreciate your videos. Pure joy and inspiration. Thank you for teaching us how to do so many things with your experience, talent and happy heart! ❤️
Thank you for saying that, Jackie - it means so much to me! 🥰
OF COURSE my mineral paper is arriving today sometime and I’m looking forward to using it. Your piece turned out great! I would love to see a few more touches of the fabulous turquoise in other areas but of course that’s just me 😂 looking forward to your live session I signed up for, but using an iPad doesn’t always work on these things. I will definitely try my best.
I'm very excited for you to get your mineral paper! I will keep my fingers crossed that everything works well (for both of us) next Wednesday 🥰
Fabulous Jackie! ❤
Hi Debs - great to see you! 🥰
😊❤@@PaintedPaperStudio
Oooo, watching the paint bloom from your brush was pure beauty.
That was my favorite part, RevChristina - I could make "blooms" all day long 🥰
Interessante! Non conoscevo questa carta. Grazie. Ottimo lavoro. 😊👍❤
Sì Emanuela, è un foglio meraviglioso su cui lavorare. Grazie per essere qui [Google Traduttore] 🥰
Jackie, try Yupo which is similar to Mineral paper. Also, look at the work done by Randall David Tipton who works on Yupo with watercolor and acrylic. The way he gets the color and water to move on Yupo is beyond fantastic.
I will definitely check him out, Jo - thank you! 🥰
Is this paper similar/same as Yupo paper used for alcohol inks?
Not exactly, SK. It's thinner and more flexible than the Yupo I've used. 🥰
So great …. I’m playing with medical exam paper …. I love the way watercolor runs into super patterns. Thanks for inspiring me . Gonna try a big one! Hopefully can show you !!!😊
I hope so too, Terri - I'd love to see it! 🥰
I could not be any happier than I am right now, watching you create amazingly beautiful sui generis works of art on the mineral paper! I have a feeling Yasutomo will catch wind of your glowing recommendation for their product and supply you with a lifetime of mineral paper (fingers crossed)!! Jackie, you have outdone yourself again! xoxox Deanna
From you lips to Yasumotom's ears! Deanna, I had a feelling you were going to love this one 😉🥰
What a fabulous video…so interesting! Thank-you for posting this and for all of your wonderful ideas and experiments! 😊

what a really great video .... I will order immediately this paper!!! it's amazing 👏 🤩 😍 thank you so much for your creativity and sharing this with us ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
You're going to love it, Jacky! 🥰
Thanks for showing this! I have a pad of stone paper for a long time and experimented a little with it (gel printing, very interesting as well) but didn’t quite know how to take it further. Your video helped! 💖🍀
You're Machteld! Thank you for mentioning the gel plate - I hope to do some experiments with this paper on the plate soon. 🥰
So cool!! Thank you Jackie 💜
You're welcome, Sue! 🥰
Wow I'd love to try that paper out ❤
Give it a whirl, Alex - I think you'll love it!🥰
Mineral paper was already on my wish list, but it looks like I’ll have to order it now! What a fun video!
Enjoy it, Diane! 🥰
Beautiful flow happening on the paper. Fascinating to watch 😊
I'm so glad - and fascinating to experience too! 🥰
This is awesome 😊 I love the finished piece!
Thank you Fran - I bet you could make some spectacular journals with this paper! 🥰

@@HandmadeJournalsbyFran2022 - Lucky you! Safe travels my friend 💜
Interesting papers Jackie! I will have to try it!
I hope you love them as much as I do, Cindy! 🥰
I’ve been using this paper for awhile. Generally, love using it for atmospheric type work. Just be careful when sealing it with varnish or even using a hair dryer for a moment to dry paint while working on it….it will buckle a bit.
Great tips, Carol! I can see that the air dryer could be problematic, but the varnish is a surprise. Why do you think it affects the paper? 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudioGood question! I use the archival spray on it and found that it kind of caused some slight buckling. So I hesitate to use anything on it. I really do love this paper, though. (I meant to say in my initial comment that the hair dryer on a cool setting was ok with this paper, just be careful with the heat.)😊
I meant also to thank you so much for all your videos and all your very thorough experiments! I really enjoy watching them! So informative!❤️
I love this paper from watching the first brush stroke. Have to try it!
It's delicious! 🥰
Loved that bloom❣️ It’s nice to learn about new papers. Thanks for the demo. 😍👍
The bloom is the bomb! It was so much fun watch it spread 🥰
I feel your enthusiasm. 💖
In Australia I have used white shellac on fine tissue paper to get translucent offect.
It may have been pseudo shellac and I can't get it anymore.
I miss its super refinement.
The various papers presented in these videos are impressive in the results produced.
This sounds so fascinating! I wonder what I could experiment with to try it out here in the states? 🥰
Loved this experimentation video! I have been wanting to create more of an ethereal looking collage paper. In fact, it was on my list of things to try to make this week. But now I’ll hold off until my mineral paper arrives! Thank you for sharing this 😊
What an awesome coincidence, Cindy - you are going to love it! 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio The mineral paper will be here Monday! 😃
I had just taken a class where baked water colors, liquid water color, water based inks, alcohol inks and Procion dye powders were used to create flowing abstract art. I don’t have these products except the Procion dyes from my fabric dyeing days. I want to use what I have on hand which is a lot of acrylic paints, and not purchase more products. So your video today was just what I needed!
@@cindyhirz6328 Awesome - please send me pics of your results 💜
Thank you to introducing us to something new.
I know it was you experimenting with a new product. (and that paper takes a pasting. I really need to try it.)
But I really love that finished piece. So lovely.
I hope you are feeling much better. Glad to see you back. x
Thank you, Happy! I am feeling much better 🥰
OMG Jackie, this is so atmospheric…a dream paper…have to get some!! Thank you🤗🤗
Dede - I literally had a dream about it last night. 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio I dream about art ideas too!
22:21 I’d bet that the weight of the water combined with the cushion of the paper towel allowed gravity to slowly creep towards the center to pool, but as the water and pigment thinned the airflow in your living room allowed the streaks to dry along the way! I’m definitely going to try this! 🤩
I’ve only ever allowed the sheets to dry flat, which has caused a sort of striation pattern in the slowly drying edges of the pools if that makes sense. I wish I could share pics here to illustrate it.
I think you could be right about the way the pattern happened, and I do wish you could share pics too. If you're on my mailing list you could email me the pics. 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio I’m not, but I really should be. I’ll rectify that now!
So beautiful. TFS
You're welcome, Michelle - thank you for watching. 🥰
What a ride!
I love the end results, but watching the joy you had while seeing the results was even better!
Does this paper tear at all? As expensive as it is, I guess it's not meant to be collage paper, but the surface to do collage on as a finished piece. Thank you so much for your experiments, I love your inquisitive mind! ♥
Thank you, Polgara! I just grabbed a piece and it did tear, but it did that weird plastic-y kind of ripple tear. I am definitely going to experiment more, but for me I think of this as a cutting paper. 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio Thank you!
Amazing experiment, thanks.
Thank you, Joyce! I encourage you to give it a whirl 🥰
I guess I'm going to get out the mineral paper I've had for who-knows-how-long and never used -- thanks as always for the inspiration ❤
Yay - play play play with it - it's so dreamy! 🥰
Wow! I also have a pad of that mineral paper. I bought it for something and then got busy doing other things and completely forgot about it. Do you ever do that? Anyway, now I am going to play with it. I love the effects, especially the one with the petal shapes that appeared out of nowhere. I used to do a lot of acrylic pouring paintings - fun but so messy! The effect reminded me of those.
Do I ever buy things and forget about them? Grab a cup of coffee and pull up a chair - I've got stories to tell! 😂 I have things in my studio that I have absolutely no idea why I bought them, but also no idea how to use them. * sigh * The life of a creative 😂🥰
Really exciting! I love the buttery cuts you are getting! It feels like it could somehow circle back to the whole Rex Ray inspired work. I am very curious to see how this paper does being glued down (collage or to cradle board), but with the matte & gloss mediums you already put on it with no buckling it seems very promising! Can’t wait to try.
Very wise, grasshopper - It is (in fact) going to be used in the Rex Ray workshop 😍 We seem to be on the same wavelength. 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio I absolutely cannot wait 😁 You’ve already sent me down a crazy Rex Ray rabbit hole! Because I live where he was from, I was able to find a couple more of his books as well as a magazine he designed. And then I discovered that my neighbor (a SF graphic designer) actually met him! I’ll be at the head of the line for your workshop…you are both so inspiring!
@@AmpuTeeHee Rex is a completely worthy rabbit hole to explore! Be sure to "bring" your books and the magazine to the workshop to show us. 😍 Do you get my emails? I will only offer it to people on my mailing list to keep it "in the family."
@@PaintedPaperStudio yes, I am! And happy to share.
Really fun. Curious about gluing it down on another substrate.
I'll be investigating for sure, Paula! 🥰
Mineral paper is so much fun! Have you tried playing with it side by side with fully synthetic paper like Yupo? The same methods interact and dry so differently, it definitely seems like the mineral paper is at least semi-absorbent. I’ve been playing with it with watercolor inks paired with acrylic and India inks and it’s been really fun. I’m curious how working on a larger sheet would translate in drying times and absorbency.
Thanks for being such an inspiration to play with new mediums and substrates. It was actually you in my head when I saw the mineral paper on the shelf a couple of months ago at my little local art store telling me to buy it and play. I’ve since encouraged the owner of the store to do so as well!
Oh my gosh, Lisa-it would totally be like me to boss you into buying mineral paper 😂 And I'm glad you did and started experimenting. Like you, I do think that mineral paper (at least the brand I have) is somewhat absorbent, but in the most delicate way. Your idea of experimenting head-to-head with yupo is a genius idea! I'm writing it down as a future experiment.
One tip for mineral paper ~ When there is so much water pooling on your piece, use an empty pipette to suction up excess water so it won't take so long to dry, and the paint won't move around while drying, thus alerting the design, unless you want the surprise, which is gorgeous, too! Now that you've tried it, do you think Rex Ray used something like this paper for his works?? That's what I decided he must be using in the Rex Ray video, especially how it cuts!!
Deanna, that's a great idea! I'll try it next time. It is possible that Rex used mineral paper, but there is a millisecond in the documentary where they show the pad of paper. It was a yellow cover and it appeared to be a Fabriano product. I sure would love to find out for sure, but in the absence of facts, I think that the mineral paper would be a great idea (like you) for the cuts.
@@PaintedPaperStudio
Typo above: *altering*.... not "alerting" the design, lol : )))
I'll do a little checking around to see if I can find anything else Rex might haver used!
Hi Jackie, I notice lots of people ask about the paper. I mostly use yupo and have tried the mineral paper out too. I see you are in the orange co area. If you don’t know him, look up my friend, Pete Morris from the San Gabriel valley area. He’s a master at the mineral paper using watercolor. He also gives classes using it in Sierra Madre.
I will definitely look up Pete Morris - thank you for telling me about him! 🥰
What is mineral paper? What is it used for?
Hi Amanda! Mineral paper is a paper made of calcium carbonate and resin. It's a gorgeous smooth paper to create art on, and you can use just about any material on it. Aside from art, people use mineral paper for writing (there are several journals made of "stone" or mineral paper, labels and even waterproof maps. I hope this helps. 🥰
Bought some at Michael's for my alcohol inks....LOVE IT 10,000x better than Yupo
Interesting - I'm going to have to dig out my alcohol inks and give them a whirl on this paper. Thanks for watching, Mama! 🥰
Jackie, is it possible to use a badger shaving brush? It is much small but more economical. Thanks. Love your channel.
Hi Kathy - my experience with the badger shaving brush was awful (and it was an expensive one!) The hairs fell out all over the glaze, and it was stiff. For glaze to blend beautifully, the hairs need to be flexible. I would rather see you use a Hake brush with an incredibly light touch. 🥰
Is it a lot like Yupo paper?
Is it at all like Yupo?
A little - It's a bit thinner than the yupo I have, but I also haven't thrown down this much water on Yupo before - hmmmmmmm I see more experiments coming. 🥰
Did the paint come off / peel when dry?
Not at all - it stayed perfectly. 🥰
Unfortunately USA amazon will not ship the medical exam paper outside the US. And I am not sure that our canadian paper is the same...probably worth trying...cause thin paper is always welcome!
Yes, I am sure the Canadian paper is very similar, and definitely worth getting yours hands on some. Please let me know how it works out for you. 🥰
🥰 [Google Traduction]
I mineral paper is cool. The resin probably prevents paper from decaying. Although trees aren't used, resin/plastic might not be that good environmentally.
Kathi - you are 100% correct - the paper does have resin, and may not be environmentally great, but this is the tradeoff we make as artists who work with acrylics. It's a mental argument I have with myself all of the time. 🥰
How do you think this Mineral Paper would work as stencil paper like Yupo?
Great question! I'm not exactly sure. It's a thin paper, so depending on the surface you use it on there could be some bleed underneath it as a stencil. However, it might work beautifully on a gel plate. If you're hand-cutting stencils - this paper would be a joy to cut. Clearly I'm going to have to play with it more 😍
Jackie, I didn't have time to see this when it posted, but I did give your email a quick view... and KNEW to just order the paper NOW, and I'll have it to play later...before you get it sold out!! Can't wait until I get it to follow the inspiration to play with it!! (Side note ..hey Archer!)
LOL - my facial expressions should be a barometer for art suppliers to stock up 😂😂😂 Archie sends a big "hey" and licks to you and your fur babies! 🥰
Seems like Yupo paper.
It is very similar to yupo based on my initial experiments. 🥰
It looks like Yupo paper
It does, but this paper is much thinner than the Yupo I have. I'll have to try a similar experiment on Yupo. 🥰
