I am a senior who has made art all my life. Lately I have really gotten back into painting and printing papers. I was so excited to discover you. I, as you, love to set aside play days where I’ll gel print for hours with absolutely no goal in mind. Some days I’ll just paint papers with various tools in black and white. Or I’ll make lots of papers by mark making. While gel printing I always use old packing paper for roll out sheets. I have gotten some of the most beautiful results with these unintended messes. Since I discovered you I have been playing your videos while working in my studio. I stop and take notes often. You have given me so many new ideas, I love it.
Gosh, that was so meditative, calming, and inspiring. ☺ I imagine many if not all of us find it hard to just give ourselves the time to sit and take in beauty and peacefulness without multitasking. I committed to focusing only on this for an hour. Anyway, that was such a gift. Thanks, Jackie. There were spectacular effects, and the wonderful combination of autumn colors of NY really came through. Lovely work, as you always so generously share. ♥
Thank you very much, Mary - that means so much to me. I get a little nervous when I make the really long videos, but I couldn't think of a thing I would have edited out of this one. Your single-focus intentionality makes me so happy - it's something I try to work on regularly, and it challenges me. 🥰
I love watching you create papers for mixed media! I know I’d also love watching how you use many of those same papers in a “finished” art work! See you on Thursday! 😊
Thank you, Roberta! You will get to see me use them this week's open studio (Wednesday - unless you're in Australia/New Zealand), and in next week's video here. 🥰
Oh wow 🤩! This is so relaxing and mesmerising to watch Jackie. They are all beautiful. Especially the last individual pieces you showed at the end. The big square tissue piece, I could see a beautiful koi carp swimming, all truly stunning. Looking forward to part 2 🙏🏻😍🙏🏻😍🙏🏻xxx
Yes. Yes. Yes. Those last three ♥absolutely gorgeous. We could hear your smile through our screens. I am looking forward to seeing how these come together in collages. Truly a transcendent experience, journeying through these color studies.
Thank you very much, Diane! I am using some of them in next week's video, but some are being saved for a big piece I'm planning on working on this winter. Thank you for staying to the end. 🥰
Laura, the one at 30:32 reminded me of my venetian plastering days - such fun an deep texture out of almost nothing at all. Thank you for you knid words, and for watching the whole thing - it was a long one! 🥰
I love gelli print sessions!!! gorgeous colours....amazing prints....Love to see you working with the gelliplate....such a relaxing video thank you so much , Jackie 🙏🙏🙏 can't wait for the next video 😅 to see what you make with this lovely papers 😍 ❤
Huh Jackie! Your fall papers turned out soooo! beautifully. Love that color scheme and could have watched you all day long. Your heartwarming smile 🥰 So good to see your joy! Love from Britta 😘
Hi Jackie, absolutely loved this session of autumn coloured prints. Your work is always so inspiring so I had to have a session myself after watching this video. Looking forward to ‘seeing you’ on Wednesday when I shall also be using some of my latest papers for a collage. Good luck for Wednesday and see you then. Susi x
Spectacular Jackie! And so inspiring... The clean off sheets were beyond gorgeous... The one that looked like butterscotch leather!!!! Purple shades combined with warm golden browns are delicious! Golden brown and green ombre-blend!!! The mottled one @ 31 mins, And the 2 @ 39 mins! I could go on and on... but I think I liked the results... LOL ❤🧡💛💜❤
Butterscotch leather!!! Great name - I'm going to use it 😍. I'm glad you like the purple/warm brown pairing - I wasn't sure how that would turn out, but I really liked it. I love not being able to predict the outcome. It's like Christmas morning - you never know what you'll get. 🥰
I can just hear your excitement as you pull these prints; it certainly shows in your expression. I'm not as good at eyeballing colors as quickly as you. So, when you are mixing colors for a 2nd layer, I'm thinking, that's not going to work. Boy, am I wrong g every time! Lovely fall colors and gorgeous prints!
I bet you could hear me (imagine how easy it is to play poker against me 😂)! I'll tell you something, Barbara - I never really know if multiple layers will work out. It's all part of the experimentation. Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Ooo thought that milky one was going to mess things up but it gave some great grungy results! And Payne's gray so wonderful with just about anything!!! Lovely papers. Can't wait to see what you do with them.
Yes, the milky one was a bit of a pain in the butt that day! I'm going to re-wash & recondition it before I use it again. And you're right, Payne's Gray works with everything! 🥰
23:38 Literally looks like sunset over the city lights from a deck of a multi million $$$ home in the hills! I mean it's complete, frame that puppy !!!! It reminds me of The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix's deck out the back of his house.
Wow, Jackie, just wow!! These prints just blew me away. Remarkable textures! Love Orange and blue anyway so some of the colors coming from the Paynes Gray and the orange shades were awesome! I could watch you create for hours! I did wonder about why your one plate seemed to “bubble” the paint applications. I think it was the one that was kind of milky in color. Just outstanding work today! ❤
Thank you, Terri! I love those colors, too. Yes, the second plate resisted a lot of the paints - I was fighting it the whole time. I've used that plate many times before and did not have an issue, so I'm not sure what the problem was. I'm going to wash and condition it before I use it again and see if that helps. 🥰
Hi Cyd! Thank you for pointing out the plexiglass - I forgot to add it to the supplies. It makes pulling prints so much easier for me. Here is a link to the sheets I use - just make sure to remove any plastic film from the plexiglass before putting your gel plate on it 🥰. amzn.to/3wL7LTw
Wowza, Jackie, you really put the P in Productive today!! All of the papers your created were absolutely stunning!! With such eye candy to choose from, it was difficult if not nearly impossible to pick a favorite, but the piece you showed right after the 12" x 12" print, the 2nd from the last you put down to view, with the payne's gray/golden/bits of rusty orange is the winner for this gal! I must admit, while watching you brayer away, your playlist lulled me to sleep a couple of times, so I watched the video in 2 sessions after my little nap : ))) Thank you for everything you do forn all of us!! xoxoxoxo Deanna. PS Can't wait to meet Phoebe!!! PSS What's the agenda for Wednesday? What will YOU be working on????
LOL Deanna! I was lulled into sleep while editing the playlist 😂. Thank you for watching all the way through. The second to last one is special - I'm saving it. Of course I feel like I should have done it on the giant gel plate and used a 22x30 sheet of the mineral paper, but oh well - it's just paper, right? But seriously, I may have to give it another go, but larger. 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio I agree, you should try those colors and techniques on mineral paper, too! I also LOVED the very last one! And several others in the groupings you showed us! The ombre one with yellow- orange and payne's gray that changed to green in the middle was beautiful, and I loved the burgundy-pink one with the little pattern all over it, too! Fantastic job, Jack!!
Beautiful Jackie, now autumn has really begun😀Do you have some kind of resist on that one (right side for me) gel plate? It gives beautiful texture! And….have you tried a session with the mineral/stone paper yet? Have a lovely day!💖🍀Machteld
Thank you, my friend! I have not tried mineral paper on the gel plate yet, but will do so for sure in the near future. As for the resist - that plate really gave me a hard time that day. Here is a response I wrote for another viewer (sorry for the cut & paste response, but it's a long one): Yes, the one plate was "resisting" extra hard that day, and to be honest I'm not sure why. Normally, resist happens when there's surface tension between the plate and the acrylic paint (think oil and water). I don't think there was anything oily on the plate, but there must have been. Usually, the plate stops resisting after several pulls, and I can get some clean prints. For some reason that plate just could not stop resisting. I'm mostly happy with the prints with the resist pattern, but there were a couple that I really wish had come up clean. I am planning on washing and reconditioning the plate later today to see if I can correct it. 🥰
Hi, Jackie. I love your work! I have a question about two of the things you used. First, what kind of gelli plate is it that seems to resist the paint and create the wonderful "holes" on the print? And second, what is the black powder you used at the 31-minute mark? Thank you!
Thank you! The gel plate is just a regular gel plate (I can't remember which brand) - I must have had put something on it that day because I wouldn't stop beading up. I have since washed and conditioned it, and it is no longer beading up. If you want the "holes," you can make them happen by spraying/sprinkling water onto the plate right after you put the paint on it. The black powder I used is loose graphite powder - I LOVE using it! There is a direct link to it in the description. 🥰
Hi Loes! No, the plate did not have water on it, but it never stopped beading up that day. I will re-wash and condition it before I use it again. Having said that, I do like the resist, I just prefer creating my own water that I apply. 🥰
Hi Jackie, great video. Thanks so much for sharing everything, beautiful work. There were a few papers with tiny dots/shapes on them, how did that happen. Is that what is being referred to as beading up or resist? I wasn't sure. Thanks again, Sondra Borrie
