  • Total Overgrown Garden Transformation.
    Long grass, tall weeds and a hedge that needs cutting. This video has it all :)
    This lady had had a very long stretch of bad luck (to say the least) with her health, she loves her dog and wanted the garden back to how it used to be. She wouldn't be able to maintain the whole garden as it was, so we came up with a plant to gravel a section using gravel and a weed suppressant.
    Although her health is never likely to improve greatly, she would however manage to cut a small section of grass so her dog could enjoy being outside.
    When this job has finished I will nip back and mow it for free for the rest of the growing season to give her more time to recover.
    There should be a lot less maintenance involved now, and the tall weeds wont be able to return as easy.
    Hope you enjoy the video.
    Thanks for looking,
    Martin.

    im a gardener and personally i absolutely love an overgrwon garden. 1) bczo its thriving without us humans interfering and controlling everything and 2) it shows just how powerful and resiliant nature is again without the interference of us humans know it all . the 4 seasons is the true gardener.

      Yes, I agree.
      I've always tried myself to walk that line between gardening and letting nature do its thing. There is a sweet spot, and I hope I'll find it one day.
      But for now, I try and make a living and protect and encourage nature as much as I can. It's a work in progress.
      Thanks for the comment 👍

    I love when you help someone who is elderly, or has become ill or overwhelmed. It is such a good feeling knowin you are right there to help when you can. This is a cute, quirky garden, and boy it certainly shaped up after you got a hold of it. May I ask 2 things? What is that scraper tool you use called in your neck of the woods? "Scraper" is all we call it, but I like yours specifically more than the sub-par ones I have found here so far. It looks like a multi-tool, with changeable heads... And secondly, I see many UK gardeners us the pants you have.. What is the brand name? They are a huge step up from any cargo pants here (which look like I should be on safari somewhere ,🧐 lost in the Serengeti!)
    I felt awful for you that you went to all that trouble to get grass seed sown, but Im glad you went with it after she changed her mind. I'm glad she has a space that will work better for where she is in her life right now. Great (sore!) back-breaking work. Lovely result. Well done as usual! Blessings from here to over there! 💛🖤💛Stacy

    I too have just found your channel and have sat all morning watching this transformation, I especially love the fact that even though you used a strimmer on the grass first, you still left it green, I had watched a Australian man and he virtually desecrated the entire garden, he seemed to have no regard for establishment plants or grass and he basically cut everything down till it was dead!! This was a pleasure to watch and I too have subscribed and told my daughter about you, especially as you have the same name as my late husband so now you have two more fans.

      A lot of Australian grass is Kikuyu or Couch grass - grows like mad from runners which spread everywhere and is green on top, brown underneath. Quite different from soft English, cooler climate grass. If it's not cut right down to the base, you're wasting your time. It will become green again very quickly.

      Me too, it's one of the things that really bug me. Although, in this case, I think it was an oversight. She had been very unwell and the fact there was only one means she had actually made efforts to clear the place up. Which is fine.

      @@martinthegardenguy PS: It would appear from this and other UK videos that English ivy is just as invasive in the UK as it is here in the US. It's just awful here: clambers up trees and smothers them. Takes over entire beds, as does its evil cousin, euonymus fortunei. Both are nightmares and have taken over whole woods and public lands, not to mention private properties. I have a (very) small gardening business and I am really appreciating your videos.

    • @martinthegardenguy
      @martinthegardenguy  10 місяців тому +1

      No worries, mate 👍 hope the business does well. Weather is the only issue I've ever had 😂 but working outdoors all day is the best.

    Hello Martin its great to see that this video blew up for you. I have a question if you dont mind. Do you ever use access equipment i.e. small scaffolding towers to do big hedges? A customer has asked for some large hedge trimming and there is a conifer hedge that must be 30ft high? Cheers.

    • @martinthegardenguy
      @martinthegardenguy  Рік тому +3

      Hi, I've never used anything like scaffold before. If I couldn't reach the hedge top with a 5m arborist ladder I simply wouldn't do the job. That's going into tree surgeon territory and I'm just a humble gardener. Plus I'm getting too old to be running up and down ladders with a long reach hedge cutter in my hands 😆 🤣
      Nowadays it's a long reach with an extension attachment. If that won't reach I don't do it.
