I think this is the perfect size for the new tenant since she will have her hands full inside. I hope you get to visit this little devil again. I saw you mentioned you may be able to swing a pressure wash (Lord, don't get me started on my large back yard patio, covered in moss...ugh!) I hope she lets you plant up a bit as well, making it beautiful, functional, and low maintenance. Fingers crossed. Today is 06/19/24. Hope you are well and had a nice break from the busy summer there. In Lakewood, WA we are having lovely weather, and I'm almost done with weeding the Potager, (which has been without vegetables for almost 6 years now) and filling a couple pots out front with flowers. Have to take it slow, as my back gripes more than I do! Miss your posts. Blessings comin your way from here to over there! 💛🖤💛 Stacy
That's exactly what I thought when I first met her. She seemed a very smart, hard-working, and very kind young lady. And she's definitely got her hands full with the house and work.
You're not wrong mate, I'm glad you noticed. It's was really dary, rich and quite fluffy 😂 it's going to be amazing to grow in. Shame it won't be veg. I'm guessing someone made the mound up out of compost. Because not top soil I've ever seen looks like that 😁 Great comment 👍
Well I'll be hanged. Never thought anyone would outdo Quick Cuts but you did it. Great work and you fed the critters. Outstanding job sir. Thanks for sharing with us.
Oh, thank you, I really appreciate it ☺️ I must admit, it's quite a recent thing for me to be putting bird feeders out everywhere. But my word, it's addictive 😂 it's now part of my morning routine to sit and watch them eat their breakfast outside while I'm sat inside eating mine 😁😅 I love it. Thanks again for the comment All the best Martin.
Loved this video, I’m a avid gardener and it fascinates me to watch what gardeners do in other countries. I’ve learned alot by watching them and plan to incorporate some of the shrubs and flowers I’ve seen on them. You did a wonderful job on her garden, she’s lucky to have you. My favorite video you’ve done so far. I’m from Massachusetts on the other side of Plymouth, yup The Mayflower, Pilgrims etc. 😇. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and work with us. Sincerely, Carol
Hi Carol, what an absolutely lovely message. It made me smile 🥰 and I thank you very much. Oh wow, Massachusetts? How's the weather there? I don't know why, but I always picture lots of snow in my mind when I think of Massachusetts. Best wishes from Nottingham Martin
@@martinthegardenguy, Hi Martin, actually in my area it’s considered the only area in the U.S. that is slowly decreasing the amount of snow unlike any other. So far we have had maybe 2 inches this winter and then it’s always gone in days. I think living near Cape Cod plays into this and the warmer ocean temperatures. All said we are expecting our first storm of the year. We might get 3-6” while other areas in Massachusetts are expected 7-12”. I’m rewatching all my favorite videos tonight, hubby has the SuperBowl on, and my Patriot’s didn’t make it this year.😢. Looking forward to your spring videos. Again, great video !!!!!!!
Thanks Carol, what great information. I honestly love hearing about other parts of the world. I absolutely love snow as well 😂 but this is probably because we hardly ever get here in the midlands. Hope you had a lovely weekend, and the husband was happy with the superbowl results. I was busy watching the Rugby 🏉 😁
I totally agree 👍 I'll probably have to re-lay some of the slabs first though. They were a bit wonky 😂 probably been down over 100 years. Thanks again Martin.
Very nice job. Nice planting areas for the springtime. So glad you incorporated the bird feeders. They will love the food now that winter is setting in. Stay well
Thanks very much, totally appreciated. I'm kinda looking forward to it as well, I have an awesome plan 😁 It'll be nice to see full of flowers and buzzing with wildlife.
Cheers mate, kind of you to say. But I'm just a simple guy, doing my best 👍 Although I'll say one thing, the older I get....the more I feel the cold! 🤣 I'd have done this in shorts and t-shirt 10 years ago. All the best Martin
This clip was extremely entertaining and informative. Great camera work as was the commentary! It was a real treat watching a consummate pro in action. Txs for sharing.
Thank you for this awesome and kind comment, I truly appreciate it. I've been gardening for years, but still working on the filming side 😊 it's great to know I'm getting better. Thanks again Martin.
Hi Martin what a great 👍 job you have done 👍 on this lady’s garden 🪴 well done and yes 👍 it will soon be summer this weekend hopefully 🤞 the weather will start improving soon for us David 🪴👌🇬🇧❤️👍
Thanks David, always a pleasure to read your comments 👍😊 It looks like you are right as well, two days without rain and it looks quite sunny too. What a rare bank holiday weekend! 😂👍
You! Made me a subscriber. I never ever seen anyone like you cut those white Vines like you did on one knee by The Roots. That was an amazing job you did on this Frozen Garden. Taking care of the birds and is a good thing, during the winter months. Just keep up the good work and I hope you don't have any real time. Watching you work at that speed, was good and that is another reason why I subscribed and gave you a thumbs up!👍
Cheers Tony What an awesome comment. I'm really glad you liked the video. You'll be glad to know I don't have any real-time videos other than a few tiny snippets in my usual content. I think people would die of boredom. It takes me days to do some of my garden clearance. Could you imagine it? 😂 it'd ne like watching paint dry. Thanks for subscribing, I'm glad you appreciate real life gardening. I'm quite old-fashioned, so if I can use hand tools instead of power tools, I will. Thanks again, 👍 Martin.
Your technique is so good - you manage to not only weed, but loosen the soil which is so important - that’s the beauty of going beyond just cutting stuff down. Even in the winter weather the changes you made are stunning. Another one pulling up a chair for your spring planting video! The leaves came off the sycamores in our tract the last 2 weeks. Somehow they all land in our front garden and sidewalks - the perils of a corner lot. We are currently discussing my need for dahlias vs his need not to have to plant them LOL. have an awesome weekend 😊
Well, this was a lovely comment. Thank you so much ❤️ I'm looking forward to getting this garden done in spring too, I've got grand plans 😅 I certainly can relate with the sycamore you have....and the ones you don't! 🤣 I look after a few gardens of clients with a similar situation. Do you find that the germination rates of sycamore tree seeds to be close to 100% as well? 🤣 I'm still "weeding" them out of some gardens from earlier on in the year. And now, like you, I have the leaves to deal with as well 😁 I try to bag them up and make leaf mold, but there are so many I could start a commercial operation. 😂 You have a great weekend to All the best Martin.
Complimenti che pazienza fare così tutto a mano..... Io sarei stata più drastica decespugliatore come se non ci fosse un domani!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂 Bel lavoro!
Yeah, I know it sounds harsh, but I refuse to work with it. I kinda dislike everything about artificial turf (outside of sports pitches) and probably the same for artificial flowers 😂 it all seems crazy to me. But each unto their own.
Hi Martin nice 👌 job on this garden must of been middle of winter 🥶 when you did this garden and it is raining today so garden for me today David 🇬🇧👌❤️👍
First time seeing your channel. I’m so impressed. I especially like when you describe what the plant names are. I really like watching yard/garden transformations or just maintaining it…the key word watching. I can’t stand doing it. It’s great to know there are people like you who love it. Seems to me that the Brits are pretty much the only yard guys who get down on hands and knees to weed. How long in real time did this take?
Haha, that's cool that you love gardening without actually gardening. It's not for everyone 😅 thanks for watching. This took about 4 hours in real time, but quite a bit of faff with the camera etc. As regards getting down and grafting, I've always loved the process of gardening. I'm sure more power tools could speed things up a bit, but to me it'd be like spray painting a model airplane instead of using a brush 😂 Although, to be fair, this was a very small garden. If it was a few acres I'd be breaking out the zero turn! 😁 Thanks again for watching and your comment. Much appreciated Martin.
Me too! They can make beautiful landscape photos look even better. It's a true sign of the season. It also works quite well with early morning dew as well 🥰
It's nice to watch them at work, I live far outside on a 20,000 square meter property, I also have a lot of birds and squirrels here, they like to eat sunflower seeds, broken and peeled
Indeed, it is, it's becoming one of my favorite things to do. Besides gardening and watching Rugby 😁😅 Thank you for watching, and I appreciate the comment.
So am I 😊 I hope you enjoy the videos. I'm still quite new to the filming side of things....but the only way is up 😁 Thanks for the comment Very much appreciated Martin.
Thanks mate, much appreciated. Hope your enjoying the weather as much as I am! 😂I am already looking forward to spring. Have a great Christmas dude 🎅❄️🎄
@@martinthegardenguy Cheers mate, ive been off social media for the last week or so for the festive period. I am looking forward to spring myself, everything starting to grow again 😃Hope you had a great Christmas and have a good new year. 👍
@thegardeneruk same to you mate, I had a great Christmas thanks. But to be honest I'm glad it's over 🤣 I've two kids under 3 years old that keep me too busy. I can't wait to get back to work! 👍😂
@@martinthegardenguy Yeah i know that feeling mate, I also have 2 kids myself which are older. There's only so much you can do at home before wanting to go back to work 😂 I have left some jobs of this year to do in January, which i knew would keep me busy until Spring. I am starting back on the 8th, which im looking forward to. 👍
Me to, it's one of the projects I'm really looking forward to next year. I love working on small gardens, especially when I get a clean slate to work with 😊👍
Hi Tim I don't think you are gone loopy at all the young lady has just bought the house funds might be limited at least the house is her own. We had a heavy frost here this morning. It's a very good idea for the winter.
Oh, thank you 😊 I'm glad you like the idea. Hope the birds and the bees like it to 😁 it's going to be buzzing 😂 literally. I hope you get a chance to watch the spring video.
Yeah, I think after the planting is done a nice clean up with the pressure washer would be an awesome finishing touch. Plus, maybe the fence painted as well 🤔 Thanks Martin.
You obviously know your plants and how they accommodate nature and gardens! Would love to see what the owner does in Spring! It’s a great space to do all sorts of great plants!
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it ☺️ 🙏 I totally agree, I think when I get it planted up this spring, it'll be a lovely little nature spot. I'm looking forward to it 👍 Martin.
Thank you 😊 Yeah, it's was lovely rich soil, someone's spent some time improving it over the years. Hopefully our planting in spring will take advantage of it 😁 Martin.
look forward to see what its like in spring i would say a budleia and some flox as they have always proven good for me for the butterflys and of course you cant go wrong with some lavender aswell
Hello, thanks for the comment. Lavender has already secured a spot in the garden next year. It's one of my favorite 😊 plus I always have cuttings growing on. I love the idea of Flox, excellent suggestion. The flowers will be amazing. Thanks again Martin.
Clearing the walkway made a good start. You could begin to see the area being connected and with purpose. Noted you were dodging around a Butterfly Bush, and now you did decide to repurpose and move it. Nice. The finish looks better, you can see potential and you already have plans in mind.
Oh, thank you, I'm glad you can see the vision of what this garden can be like and its potential 😊 👍 I've got a pretty good plan for spring, so hopefully, an update video with the next lot of work will be along in spring. Cheers Martin
I don't normally either, I leave everything till early spring. It's definitely the right thing to do for wildlife and most plants. And definitely in a dry winter. But in a garden that is normally maintained up until that point.👍unlike this one.
Desde Guadalajara España, aquí el clima es muy diferente, pocas lluvias y muy extrema diferencia de temperatura del invierno al verano. Seguro que usted sabe muy bien que plantas colocar para embellecer ese pequeño patio. Buen trabajo 👍🏾
Greetings Spain 🇪🇸 thanks for the comment 👍 😊 I always ha e some ideas, but I've also had really good one from viewers also. But as you say, the Spanish climate is a lot different than midland England 😅
I'm glad you do 😁 I also love them 😂 I'm obsessed with cool gardening kit. Especially the manual or old fashioned kind, even if they do have a more modern take.
Great job and a great video! Sorry to see you working in the cold but I expect that is what it is for you, "so wot" (an expression an English nun (Sister Jane) said in a book I have been reading). I hop[e you and your family have a great holiday. I hope we continue to see videos throughout the cold season. Thanks for sharing! George from Florida, USA
Cheers George 👍 always a pleasure 🙏 Hope you have a great Christmas, too 😊 As usual, you are right. We do say "so wot" quite a bit! 🤣 it seems quite colloquial, but every nation has a similar expression 🤣 I like the Australian "it'll be right" one. However, on this cold morning. My expression was "jeez, I wish I'd have put my man tights on under my trousers " 😂 All the best, George Martin.
Thanks Martin! We have a lot to be thankful for in this life. I am especially thankful you are making videos of your hard work and sharing it with us! @@martinthegardenguy
Please mark the steps for supervising nighttime doggy visits to the garden. An outside security light would help too. Lovely work and plan for Spring.❤️🐩🌼
Thank you very much. Excellent suggestions, I will mention these great ideas to her when I next see her. Although I'll be more concerned with the super duper planting scheme myself 😅 I'm already looking forward to getting cracking, I hope it'll look as it does in my mind 😂🤞 Thanks again All the best Martin
Now that you’ve cleared the garden it’ll be nice to see how it develops next year, the birds will be very happy with the feeders especially with the cold weather we’re having, the birds in my garden are going through the peanuts like there going out of style! 😂
Haha, same in my garden. The peanuts are disappearing faster than I can replace them. And those half coconut shells filled with seed and fat seem to be equally as favored 🤣 I saw a pigeon eat almost a whole one themselves. I'm looking forward to planting her garden up next spring. I've already have loads of really good suggestions. It'll be literally buzzing with wildlife ❤️ Thanks again Martin.
It's going to be great to see what you do with this in the Spring. I would imagine you will be power washing the cement? The water feature is going to be great if you can get that working. I love hummingbird and butterfly flowers. Purple coneflower, beebalm, fuchsia, orange jewelweed and honeysuckle are some of my favorites, and of course a butterfly bush. It will be fun to see what you come up with. I see there is a nice pine tree not far, and a woodpile for cocoons with milkweed nearby would be good for the butterflies out in the yard. It's been awhile since I have had a garden but I did do a hummingbird and butterfly garden and the hummingbirds nested in the pine.
Wow, what awesome plant suggestions ☺️👍 although, admittedly, I had to google one or two. It's funny how common plant names change depending on where in the world you are. You must have a great gardening knowledge base to be able to suggest such amazing plants. That was exactly the kinds I had in my mind. Thank you so much ❤️ It's a shame you don't have a garden anymore, I'm sure the horticulture world is a worse place because of it. All the best Martin

@@martinthegardenguyI can’t wait to see what this quaint little garden will be showing in the spring, make it magical and a recluse for this lovely lady ❤, and thank you for your love, kindness and service to others 😊.
Thank you. I plan to make this one of the best I've ever created. It'll take some planning, as low maintenance and wildlife don't match up that good 😂 but I think I can do it 👍😅 I've got a list of people who are going to donate plants (from their own gardens) it's be cheaper and more eco friendly. Thanks for the comment Truly, it's appreciated. Martin.
How much sun does this back garden get! It could look really nice to plant succulents in those narrow beds along the stairs. Like hens and chicks maybe.
It's quite a sunny garden for most of the day, the bit where the lovely soil is used to have a greenhouse by the looks of it. Near where I replanted the budlia. Perfect plant suggestion, I'd already considered planting them where you mentioned. Which is awesome. We are on the same wavelength 😊👍 How do you think some sedum and maybe Ajuga would look in the same narrow beds?
It’s such a sweet garden. Maybe a Japanese influence would be nice. Definitely needs some winter interest like miniature Shrubs/evergreens. Hard to say what to plant not knowing it’s sun exposure etc. Look forward to spring to see what you do.
Hi, thanks for the comment. Fantastic idea about having a few evergreen shrubs. You've got ne thinking...maybe a few Hebe. A lot will flower quite nicely, and the bees seem to love them. I also like where you're going with the Japanese idea. The sun exposure is high enough for most full sun and partial sun planting. There is also a shade section near the shed. So it could be a very good all round garden 👍😊 which is my favorite kind of garden. Thanks again, much appreciated. Martin.
Nice job Martin, I'm a new subscriber to your channel and hope to see a lot more of your video's. Planting some Hosta's with variegated foliage might be an idea, they also attract bee's etc when in flower as seeing the fern says it could be a more shaded area so they should do well provided the slugs and snail's can be kept at bay. Great to watch gardeners with plant knowledge, thanks ❤
Alison, that's a bang on suggestion. They'd be perfect with the ferns. Thank you. Hopefully, you'll be watching me plant some Hostas next spring 😊👍 they will be definitely going on the list. I've a few in my own garden that are ready for dividing up. I'll use them. The shed type thing will be getting removed, but some trellis will be going up to create a separate space. There will be a good spot, I hope. Thanks for the awesome comment Martin.

Uau, muito obrigado. Que lindo comentário. Eu pude literalmente sentir a energia positiva vindo de você. Então, muito obrigado. Muitas felicidades Martin ❤️😊
Yeah, indeed it is. It grows very quickly and is (in my experience) virtually impossible to eradicate without extreme work. Fortunately, it's quite dainty and repeated weeding can keep it relatively under control. But on the plus side, it does have very beautiful white flowers. And of course, the bees love them 😂

That's exactly what I thought when I first met her. She seemed a very smart, hard-working, and very kind young lady. And she's definitely got her hands full with the house and work.
I love watching the birds
That soil looks rich!
You're not wrong mate, I'm glad you noticed. It's was really dary, rich and quite fluffy 😂 it's going to be amazing to grow in. Shame it won't be veg.
I'm guessing someone made the mound up out of compost. Because not top soil I've ever seen looks like that 😁
Great comment 👍

Seasons greetings from me

🥰🥰🥰 The bird feeders made my heart soooo happy! I love birds too! Great job all around, absolutely love your videos!
Oh, thank you, I really appreciate it ☺️
I must admit, it's quite a recent thing for me to be putting bird feeders out everywhere. But my word, it's addictive 😂 it's now part of my morning routine to sit and watch them eat their breakfast outside while I'm sat inside eating mine 😁😅 I love it.
Thanks again for the comment

Best wishes from Nottingham
Martin
Que trabalho é fantástico! Fiquei encantada com seu cuidado com os pássaros! Sucessos !!!👏👏👏👏😘😂🇧🇷
Hope you pressure wash fence as well!
I think she'll be sorting the fence out mate, I'll be more concerned with the planting side of things 👍
Very nice job. Pressure washing the concrete would make a big difference.🙂
I totally agree 👍 I'll probably have to re-lay some of the slabs first though. They were a bit wonky 😂 probably been down over 100 years.
Thanks again

Very nice job. Nice planting areas for the springtime. So glad you incorporated the bird feeders. They will love the food now that winter is setting in. Stay well
Thank you 😊 I know we have Christmas to look forward to, but after that, it's all about the spring time for me 😁
Thanks again

Why, thank you. Very kind of you to say.❤️
That garden looked so good. Really look forward to when you plant it up. Lovely of you to help. Please take care
Thanks very much, totally appreciated. I'm kinda looking forward to it as well, I have an awesome plan 😁
It'll be nice to see full of flowers and buzzing with wildlife.

Hi Martin what a great 👍 job you have done 👍 on this lady’s garden 🪴 well done and yes 👍 it will soon be summer this weekend hopefully 🤞 the weather will start improving soon for us David 🪴👌🇬🇧❤️👍
Thanks David, always a pleasure to read your comments 👍😊
It looks like you are right as well, two days without rain and it looks quite sunny too.

Oh wow, super kind of you. I'm very lucky to have so many wonderful people watching these videos. It makes it worthwhile ❤️
Watching you work at that speed, was good and that is another reason why I subscribed and gave you a thumbs up!👍
Cheers Tony
What an awesome comment.
Thanks again, 👍
Martin.
Thank you so much ❤️ I'm looking forward to getting this garden done in spring too, I've got grand plans 😅
I certainly can relate with the sycamore you have....and the ones you don't! 🤣 I look after a few gardens of clients with a similar situation.
Do you find that the germination rates of sycamore tree seeds to be close to 100% as well? 🤣 I'm still "weeding" them out of some gardens from earlier on in the year. And now, like you, I have the leaves to deal with as well 😁
I try to bag them up and make leaf mold, but there are so many I could start a commercial operation. 😂
You have a great weekend to
All the best

What a garden cleanup! Looks great and I can’t wait to find the video of your plantings and designing in spring 24 videos! 💚 from Texas
Thank you 👍 😊 🙏
Although, this one had the revisit canceled. As she had her heart set on artificial turf 🤯 😥
@@martinthegardenguy Artificial turf??? 😳😫 Oh, no, that’s the beginning of a very bad garden! 😝🥲
Oh yeah, I think it was mid January 😂 I do remember being a bit chilly 🥶😅
I'm sure more power tools could speed things up a bit, but to me it'd be like spray painting a model airplane instead of using a brush 😂
Although, to be fair, this was a very small garden. If it was a few acres I'd be breaking out the zero turn! 😁
Thanks again for watching and your comment.
Much appreciated
Martin.
@@martinthegardenguymaybe they have you confused with Tim the Enchanter :D

Besides gardening and watching Rugby 😁😅

look forward to see what its like in spring i would say a budleia and some flox as they have always proven good for me for the butterflys and of course you cant go wrong with some lavender aswell

Lavender has already secured a spot in the garden next year. It's one of my favorite 😊 plus I always have cuttings growing on.
I love the idea of Flox, excellent suggestion. The flowers will be amazing.

Those must be some tasty peanuts!❤😂
I wouldn't know, the birds ate them all 😂
But I'm ok with that haha.
Clearing the walkway made a good start. You could begin to see the area being connected and with purpose. Noted you were dodging around a Butterfly Bush, and now you did decide to repurpose and move it. Nice. The finish looks better, you can see potential and you already have plans in mind.
Oh, thank you, I'm glad you can see the vision of what this garden can be like and its potential 😊 👍

Gardens in northern Ireland do no get cut after October
I don't normally either, I leave everything till early spring. It's definitely the right thing to do for wildlife and most plants.
And definitely in a dry winter.
But in a garden that is normally maintained up until that point.👍unlike this one.
Desde Guadalajara España, aquí el clima es muy diferente, pocas lluvias y muy extrema diferencia de temperatura del invierno al verano. Seguro que usted sabe muy bien que plantas colocar para embellecer ese pequeño patio. Buen trabajo 👍🏾

But as you say, the Spanish climate is a lot different than midland England 😅

Great job and a great video! Sorry to see you working in the cold but I expect that is what it is for you, "so wot" (an expression an English nun (Sister Jane) said in a book I have been reading). I hop[e you and your family have a great holiday. I hope we continue to see videos throughout the cold season. Thanks for sharing! George from Florida, USA

As usual, you are right. We do say "so wot" quite a bit! 🤣 it seems quite colloquial, but every nation has a similar expression 🤣 I like the Australian "it'll be right" one.
However, on this cold morning. My expression was "jeez, I wish I'd have put my man tights on under my trousers " 😂

Thank you so much ❤️
It's a shame you don't have a garden anymore, I'm sure the horticulture world is a worse place because of it.

We are on the same wavelength 😊👍
How do you think some sedum and maybe Ajuga would look in the same narrow beds?
очень очень хорошая работа

Thank you so much.
Thanks for the awesome comment

You can try planting succulents
That's a great idea. They'd be perfect in the gravel borders around the patio. 👍
what's the orientation in the garden south-west, east etc, plant full sun and semi sun lovers
That's a good point, I didn't actually check when I was there. But I will check out the maps to find out 👍
Is bindweed a real pain for gardeners
Yeah, indeed it is. It grows very quickly and is (in my experience) virtually impossible to eradicate without extreme work.
Fortunately, it's quite dainty and repeated weeding can keep it relatively under control.
But on the plus side, it does have very beautiful white flowers. And of course, the bees love them 😂
