- I was driving around looking for a property to clean up for free. I was looking for one that was in terrible shape, a complete disaster, and when I saw this one I thought to myself - this is perfect, my viewers will love this! I knocked on the door and nobody was home, huh. So I went back a few days later and tried again. Luckily, this time the owner was home. When I offered to cleanup her yard for free, the homeowner was surprised and a little reluctant at first. Then I promised that it would all be free and I would do an excellent job. After my reassurance, she agreed to let me go ahead. I will also be doing the back section on this one, but that will be on another episode. All up, I spent around 13 hours on the front and went to the landfill 3 times. This is part 1 of 2.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem to be the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.

Wow, I loved this! What a transformation! I really loved what you did along the road frontage, but all of it was great. I felt for this young mother. Sounds like she has a lot on her plate, and the noise from the busy road in the distance was a killer. I'm so glad you chose this yard, not just because it is great to see the transformation, but because I think the lady will be so happy you did it. Now she and her kids can enjoy their yard. Thank you so much for being a good man. Kinda renews some faith in humanity.

OK, I have to say that you're good. Everytime I see something that isn't right or not perfect (a dead branch left behind, or a trimmed bush that has a couple of branches sticking out or not perfectly rounded), I notice it but just when I do, you go back and fix it. Great job.

I find it fascinating how the Aussie lots are laid out, as opposed to what I'm used to in the U.S. I've seen a few videos on various channels showing a similar layout to this one: A small driveway and single garage on the left, a tiny front yard wrapping around to the right, opening onto an enormous backyard, in which is situated a large shed in the middle, with doors on two sides, neither facing the house.
Not saying there's anything wrong with that, it's just a configuration I hadn't seen at all, until I started watching these lawn rescue videos from 'down under', and here's yet another one with this same layout. Like the prevalence of metal fencing there, where here it's almost universally cedar pickets.
Anyway, you do good work. Very thorough, and I'm always a fan of removing the clippings, as opposed to the 'mulching strategy' used by guys over here, which to me seems to be better suited to ongoing maintenance cuts than an overgrown rescue.
I'm in the UK and I can't get over the size of the front/backyard!! 😳 I can see why people struggle to maintain them. Wonderful job 👏

Second view for no music😉 Mallow is also a good remedy for the skin irritation caused by stinging nettles 👍 We have yellow hawthorn up here, and it Will take over if not kept in strict check but the flowers and fruit are quite lovely. Hey Michele, I was reading that about the Mallow, interesting. Yes, little funny looking chickens and very vocal. They would get very chirpy every now and then. Chickens are good value 🙂
I completely agree on the value of chickens. They produce eggs, which outweighs the cost of keeping them. They are great moss eradicators in the lawn, and it is very pleasant to watch them go around the yard doing chicken stuff. Comedy value is very high as well! I have about a hundred stories of the things my hens get up to that would probably make you laugh. They do steal veggies from the garden, though! 😄 @@QCV2
