So glad to see One of my favorite guitar players and Billie Eilish in such a great loving marriage
Billie Eilish I see what you did there🤣🤣🤣🤣
If Dream Theater and Opeth are dad rock, we're entering the coolest era of dad rock.
Here for this bro
Or we are just getting old.
Ratt is now muzak in grocery stores. So, there's that.
Going by age wouldn't that include morbid angel, death, suffocation, emperor, cannibal corpse, at the gates, dismember, entombed, etc. Some of those guys have got to be mid 50's early 60's.
I sent this to my dad since he loves both this band AND the channel, he works in the hospital so I’m pretty sure he has patients dying so he can watch this
Dean may be one of those people considering he’s in the ICU after a horrible peekaboo accident. RIP that bald fella
Cattle Decap Rules!
Hey everyone thanks for watching!
Just wanna clarify a couple things:
- The intro isn't Swedish, it's an attempt at Norwegian haha. I know Opeth is Swedish but I only know *some* Norwegian 😅
- I'm not calling Opeth "dad rock," I only meant that they sometimes have "rockin" riffs, so I think Dean secretly likes actual dad rock and he's just not telling us 😏
Ok, thanks for listening 🖤
What band should we do next?!
Confirmed Dean likes boomer bends
You should do Gorod next especially "Bekhten's Curse"
Definitely do Journey next
I'm Swedish and understood you fine, good jerb!
Bands: Arsis, Ulcerate, Gaerea, Carcass.. Might be tough to find tabs for 2 and 3 though
Opeth are a dad rock band! They've been getting more and more dad rock since the early 00s. These days, they clearly have little interest in the death metal style that made them famous.
I must really be getting old if we are now calling Opeth “Dad rock”.
She has a point, though.
Hell yeah, brother!
😂😂
@@BigMuff75 Sounds just like Van Halen
@@BigMuff75 no, she doesn't. shes incredibly boring. she thinks another that doesnt jus staright chugs isnt good. its literally upsetting to me to be so boring of a human and off put to being alive ha
Mikael's clean vocals are one of my favorite elements of Opeth. Thanks for the showcase!
yap
Is there any bad element to opeth?
@@sirspookybones1118 their songs are too short
@@leviathan3630 dammit you're right
@@leviathan3630idk man. As much as I love Opeth,We don’t need another black rose immortal
Long for the sake of being long
The Drapery Falls is just perfection. 2001 sealed prog metal as my favourite genre with Blackwater Park and Lateralus
ALL of Blackwater park is just PERFECTION..🤘😄🤘 A MASTERPIECE.
Lateralus is an absolute masterpiece. I know Tool is very famous but I still think Maynard is an underrated artist. Parabola literally changed my entire view on the world and helped me a lot with severe depression because it made me see life as a holy experience and made me thankful just to be alive when life sucked. ”Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing” hits me every time
"the clean singing in Opeth is the pill that's hard to swallow"
that hurt
Yeah. The clean singing is amazing. Maybe she means Orchid singing
Opeth fuckin rules. So much fun to play on guitar.
19 hours to retune my guitar to standard.
*remove piano string or else neck-body snap sandwitch from standard tunning tentions, rip retune
I keep one of my 7's in drop A, so it's a quick omission on 1 string here 💜
im always surprised when people dislike Akerfeldt's singing from early-mid era, I find it really refreshing and emotive, though not necessarily very technical complex or traditionally operatic. I just think his tone is really unique, and he uses his voice in a really effective way. Leper Affinity always stands out to me as a great example of like 15-20 seconds of singing. that's all. nothing more needed.
I think the beauty in its singing parts come from that he doesn't overdo it. He just lets the sad lyrics be sad, but doesn't try hard to sound super sad himself. It just sounds natural, beautiful, melancholic. It's like the opposite of emo.
@@SaintFranssoix good point. there's a balance to the whole thing, easy to over do it.
unfortunately I think the later records do tend towards the overdone even without the lyrics being as gothic.
I find Hours of Wealth to showcase that aspect of his voice really well, but also his nature of composing music. As he often has said in interviews; he doesn't know what every chord is by name, he just plays them. And Hours of Wealth is simple enough to play for people in the late novice levels, but it's really tricky to pull off flawlessly. It does, however, teach in the way on how chords are structured on a theoretical level beyond chord shapes, and oh man, that voice in that song. "Agaaaain-aaaaiiiiiin", into that simple solo with that jazz tone.
I really don’t understand it, man sounded great in that era.
Ahhh love Opeth. I was always glad I was proficient enough to play their songs... but damn learning those transitions made me realize how much I suck at writing music.
I heard someone say somewhere that Opeth has never played a boring chord and boy that's so true.
the guy from the Tool tutorials maybe? :)
ua-cam.com/video/z7tUecCdElU/v-deo.html there you go
@@yash9410503314 even though he says those exact words... Ive never seen that video! Fuck, now I really wanna find it to see whos copying who!
ha! Found it! Its another video... by the same guy lol.
There are too many amazing Opeth riffs. We need a part 2! ;)
The opening riff of Hex omega is so incredibly satisfying to me! A friend of mine alerted me to how incredibly well written it is, and he is so right
You could make an entire video of these with riffs off Blackwater Park alone (the track, not even the album).
Opeth is my wife and I's favorite band. We never miss a show and will literally listen to their entire discography from start to finish before hand.
That's really cool!
My Arms Your Hearse is still one of my favorite albums. They will never be that good ever again.
Just saw the title for this one.... Oh, yeeeeaaaahhh! Two of my all-time favourite bands, Archspire and (early-and-mid-era) Opeth ;)
The Moor, A Fair Judgement, The Leper Affinity, When. Opeths riffs are magic in my ears.
4 Levels of Gorod would be amazing
Sounds of the Underground Tour 2005: Opeth whips out the acoustic guitars at Target Center and start playing, some unknown hero in the audience yells "THIS FUCKING SUCKS" and it was twice as loud as the band. Akerfelt clearly hears this and finishes the set with a sour expression on his face
It's funny...with each one of these, I both gain and lose respect for you two all at the same time hahaha
Same
Mikael has the best growls AND clean vocals.
Dude was a beast.
Opeth is my number 1 all time band for 5 years and I don't really see it changing haha
“I’m not a mathematician”
“No you’re not” with eye roll
I choked on my beer when he said that.
I am super happy Sheet Happens keeps making tabs like these, I have been to their pop up shop a few times, and they seem to be super cool guitarists, it's nice to see them keep growing.
9:20 That super fast glance at the camera 😂
The intro was clearly understandable for a Swede! Well done Claire!
and a dane :-D
I’m 33 and Opeth is still in my top 5 favorite bands. Blackwater Park and Damnation are my favorite albums.
Opeth is just the greatest band ever
Lol, as a scandinavian, that intro was hilarious :D
Man, you got hook up 4 levels of Periphery! Misha is always fun.
Looking forward to the Ireland show man!
I love this band, these riffs, and fun the editing has become in these videos. Lookin forward to your Vancouver show in May.
Opeth is the goat
This is awesome! Hope you dudes have a killer time on the Euro tour! See you in Van for Modified Ghost!
Awesome stuff, couple goals for sure! See you in Manchester next Friday!
i hope you guys try HeirApparent or even Blackwater Park! Can't wait
Hell yes, I was hoping you’d do an Opeth episode one of these days! Those riffs in the late 90s-early 2000s albums are some of the best I’ve heard.
Oh man, I opened youtube and the first thing I see is this video and I'm just SMILING!
I love Opeth so much (the old stuff tbh) and seeing this video made my day :D
It was obvious that Master's Apprentices will be level 1, but it really is such a good song!
DEAN, maybe you should do Dean Attempts to Learn an Opeth song?
Probably will be cheating since you learned a lot of their stuff, but still c:
I was stuck (and still kind of am) listening to almost only Opeth for the past 8 or so months now.
Learning their riffs really got me enjoying their music even more :)
Love seeing you both tackle Opeth-even more so with Archspire being one of my favorite bands! “The Drapery Falls” was my first introduction to Opeth (still one of my favorite songs from them). I remember listening to it in high school and being absolutely entranced such music existed.
I remember when i was around 17 or 18 and discovered Opeth. The amount of hours spent glued to UltimateTabs just to learn Opeth songs was pretty insane. I still dont think there is a band in existence who ever came close to being what Opeth in terms of the way riffs and songs were written. Everything was so well written and orchestrated for maximum dynamics and affect and it didnt matter if it was that one sustained single note that rang out that would make people lose their minds or putting two chords or notes that dont work well with each other *TOGETHER*
Opeth songs are extremely fun to learn how to play.
Love these videos Dean! Opeth is my favorite so this is an extra special installment. It must have been difficult to choose only 4 riffs for this. Have a good trip in Europe.
Wow, you did so well in this video! :)
I remember when my band covered The Drapery Falls... it was really something.
Opeth is my all time favorite band so I'm stoked to see this
Got my tickets! Cant wait to see you in Nottingham!
So good to see you both back!!!!
This band is top tier. Such a great video guys keep it up! Small hand crew😤
So much fun in your homage to Opeth! This was super-fun. THEY ARE LEGEND. So shall be Archspire, in time
I remember requesting you to learn Serenity Painted Death on stream, so sick!
You guys genuinely have the best sense of humor. I laugh more at you guys videos than most. Keep rocking!!
love you dudes. please keep exploring sonic capacities
As always i enjoy the banter between you two
Glad to see something off of Blackwater. Such a perfect album. Yall crushed it!!
Thanks for the video. Opeth is my 3rd favorite band of all time, at least their older albums. Interestingly, Dean’s band is quickly becoming my 5th favorite band of all time! Keep up the good work.
I truly adore y’all. I so wish my wife was down to play guitar together. Never stop. Please. 🤘🏻
Claire talking about The Drapery Falls is 100% her being a wonderful wife and 0% her liking Opeth.
Tusen takk, Claire, for at du ønsket meg velkommen tilbake!
Some good Opeth bbc (big beautiful chords)
Totally a top five band for me. Great video guys!
that's really great Benighted is coming with you, what a sweet band!
Opeth will always be my favorite band
Thank you for that welcoming❤
Awesome video! and approooved Swedish Claire haha
Great picks the serenity painted death and demon of the fall riffs are badass, love them
Great vid guys needs a part 2!! Also make one for Mastodon haha
I've been listening to Opeth all day! Saw them in concert back around 2008. So good!
Good to see you two playing riffs again 🤘
I love this, i always come back to playing Opeth and im definitely a dad rocker
Opeth was my favourite band from age 14 until 18 as well! I didn't realize what my arms your hearse meant exactly until you explained it. I thought it had some sort of deeper or abstract meaning 😂
Great vid as always!! Hilarious😂😂
A great, great selection of Opeth riffs. I remember pretty well that riff In The Drapery Falls from the times when i played It live with my band here In Spain. And i remember the chaotic riff In the middle of the song. When we all get how to play It properly It was awesome.
already bought a ticket . i am excited to watch aspire the first time. greetings from vienna
Watching this video the first time caused me to do a weeklong deep dive on Opeth, and I can now say that I am a newly minted fan. I had probably heard their name for 25+ years, and just never bothered to check them out before. Thanks helping put me on the path that I should have tread long ago, Dean. I have already begun to reckon with the painful fact that I should have been seeing them live in the late 90's and through the 00's, and will get a very different experience when I go to see them the next time they come through town. But hey, his clean vocals are good too.
I just want to watch Dean do Opeth covers from this era now 🥰
Opeth? You could not have me more happy. Thank you guys!
great guitar tones
Love that you picked Serenity Painted Death but that section rules so much because it's such a groovy transition between two extremely different parts and it loses a little magic without the before and after for contrast.
00:05 That's exactly what you said! Bravo!
that peak a boo joke was S tier. fuckin a, Dean.
God damn, Demon of the Fall is such a sick riff. You two crack me up!
I love these videos
How can someone not be into Opeth?
they've only heard the latest album
By not knowing them yet.
couse they are so pretensious
met too many people who genuinely don't like the technical aspect of death metal and lean more towards slam and goregrind of the genre sadly
Because they live happy lives.
Those closeups are literally what I come here for
Hey man looking forward to seeing ye in Dublin. Don't cancel again. 🤘
Mr supeeene got me into this band. Saw them at the commodore many moons ago. So good
Been waiting years for this video👨🏻🌾
First time commenting! GIVE US MORE OF THESE VIDEOS! love from Iran ❤
Got tickets already. Will be seeing you guys in Glasgow.
Yessss
@@DeanLamb a round of beers for the boys
I gotta agree with the singing I haven't given them a chance tho in years but harvest covered from matt was amazing and that got me into them
Thanks for doing this. Opeth are on one of my GOAT lists. You guys rock!!!
- Dad
Demon of The Fall is imo, an opeth Showcase. It shows just about every aspect of what they had (at the time) to offer musically. It was the first opeth song that caught my ear when I became a musician and made me fall in Love with them. Glad to see someone I'm a fan of is a fan of one of my top 3 bands. They're #1 when I found them and #3 now. Haha
Opeth has been fav ever since I discovered them in middle school 18 years ago. It has been quite a musical journey for them so I could totally understand why it stopped being some people's favorite band. Personally, I find myself listening to Morningrise and Orchid the most because of the black metal influences.
Speaking of touring, i was so bummed that you couldn't make it to Costa Rica last tour... hopefully someday soon.
Love me some Demon of the Fall...and that riff is tough. I was always try and play the D-string in time with the double bass. Dean doesn't then I won't!!
missed you guys!
Would really love a high quality arch live dvd / video . Please Dean !
Claine I 100% feel you on Opeth. Mucho respect to them, huge influence on my songwriting, dope riffs... can't be fucked listening to more than a song at a time, idk why. Cheers to both of you!
Haven't listened to Opeth in a minute. Good time to revisit....
This Levels are actually my favorite songs from each album you put in the levels, except Deliverance, well I guess so, because I love both songs (Deliverance and Master´s apprentices)
was pretty sure level 4 was gonna be either The Moor or The Lepper Affinity but The Drapery Falls is very nice too!
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! Anotheeeer video * _____ *
