Hey everyone thanks for watching! Just wanna clarify a couple things: - The intro isn't Swedish, it's an attempt at Norwegian haha. I know Opeth is Swedish but I only know *some* Norwegian 😅 - I'm not calling Opeth "dad rock," I only meant that they sometimes have "rockin" riffs, so I think Dean secretly likes actual dad rock and he's just not telling us 😏 Ok, thanks for listening 🖤 What band should we do next?!
Opeth are a dad rock band! They've been getting more and more dad rock since the early 00s. These days, they clearly have little interest in the death metal style that made them famous.
I sent this to my dad since he loves both this band AND the channel, he works in the hospital so I’m pretty sure he has patients dying so he can watch this
Going by age wouldn't that include morbid angel, death, suffocation, emperor, cannibal corpse, at the gates, dismember, entombed, etc. Some of those guys have got to be mid 50's early 60's.
dream theater came out in the 80s, opeth came out in like 2005. what in the flying fu** are you talking about? dream theater has been classic rock, for awhile. rush and dream theater, were basically the first major progressive groups. the guy from opeth probably listened to dream theater, when he was a literal child.
Lateralus is an absolute masterpiece. I know Tool is very famous but I still think Maynard is an underrated artist. Parabola literally changed my entire view on the world and helped me a lot with severe depression because it made me see life as a holy experience and made me thankful just to be alive when life sucked. ”Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing” hits me every time
@@BigMuff75 no, she doesn't. shes incredibly boring. she thinks another that doesnt jus staright chugs isnt good. its literally upsetting to me to be so boring of a human and off put to being alive ha
Ahhh love Opeth. I was always glad I was proficient enough to play their songs... but damn learning those transitions made me realize how much I suck at writing music. I heard someone say somewhere that Opeth has never played a boring chord and boy that's so true.
I am super happy Sheet Happens keeps making tabs like these, I have been to their pop up shop a few times, and they seem to be super cool guitarists, it's nice to see them keep growing.
Sounds of the Underground Tour 2005: Opeth whips out the acoustic guitars at Target Center and start playing, some unknown hero in the audience yells "THIS FUCKING SUCKS" and it was twice as loud as the band. Akerfelt clearly hears this and finishes the set with a sour expression on his face
Oh man, I opened youtube and the first thing I see is this video and I'm just SMILING! I love Opeth so much (the old stuff tbh) and seeing this video made my day :D It was obvious that Master's Apprentices will be level 1, but it really is such a good song! DEAN, maybe you should do Dean Attempts to Learn an Opeth song? Probably will be cheating since you learned a lot of their stuff, but still c: I was stuck (and still kind of am) listening to almost only Opeth for the past 8 or so months now. Learning their riffs really got me enjoying their music even more :)
Love seeing you both tackle Opeth-even more so with Archspire being one of my favorite bands! “The Drapery Falls” was my first introduction to Opeth (still one of my favorite songs from them). I remember listening to it in high school and being absolutely entranced such music existed.
I remember when i was around 17 or 18 and discovered Opeth. The amount of hours spent glued to UltimateTabs just to learn Opeth songs was pretty insane. I still dont think there is a band in existence who ever came close to being what Opeth in terms of the way riffs and songs were written. Everything was so well written and orchestrated for maximum dynamics and affect and it didnt matter if it was that one sustained single note that rang out that would make people lose their minds or putting two chords or notes that dont work well with each other *TOGETHER* Opeth songs are extremely fun to learn how to play.
Love that you picked Serenity Painted Death but that section rules so much because it's such a groovy transition between two extremely different parts and it loses a little magic without the before and after for contrast.
Opeth was my favourite band from age 14 until 18 as well! I didn't realize what my arms your hearse meant exactly until you explained it. I thought it had some sort of deeper or abstract meaning 😂
Demon of The Fall is imo, an opeth Showcase. It shows just about every aspect of what they had (at the time) to offer musically. It was the first opeth song that caught my ear when I became a musician and made me fall in Love with them. Glad to see someone I'm a fan of is a fan of one of my top 3 bands. They're #1 when I found them and #3 now. Haha
Thanks for the video. Opeth is my 3rd favorite band of all time, at least their older albums. Interestingly, Dean’s band is quickly becoming my 5th favorite band of all time! Keep up the good work.
Opeth has been fav ever since I discovered them in middle school 18 years ago. It has been quite a musical journey for them so I could totally understand why it stopped being some people's favorite band. Personally, I find myself listening to Morningrise and Orchid the most because of the black metal influences.
Well, I am a massive Opeth fan, have been for years (Blackwater Park was my first album, was still new at the time) and I gotta say I loved watching this. At some point you should show her some of their newer stuff, I'm sure she'd absolutely HATE it compared to the old-school stuff xD Mikael has always said he was big into the prog style of things, so it's not too surprising that in their later years that's the direction they headed, it's still nice to see him pull out the guttural vocals at shows though. Keep makin these videos, love watching you two enjoy the music together.
Finally, a Claire fix❤️I was having serious withdrawals. Great choice of riffs from a band with a crazy discography. “Serenity painted death” is one of my favorite Opeth songs so that was an awesome treat:) P.S. Claire’s tattoo’s look beyond sick.

I've never been an Opeth fan, I could just never really get into them, try as I might... The clean vocal stuff, even less so. But then I heard a song called "Faith in Others." Absolutely blew my mind, sounds like something from King Crimson. I still haven't really been able to fall in love with the band like so many other people do, but that song will always hold a special place for me, reminds me of my Dad. Confirmed Dean likes boomer bends
You should do Gorod next especially "Bekhten's Curse"
Definitely do Journey next

The opening riff of Hex omega is so incredibly satisfying to me! A friend of mine alerted me to how incredibly well written it is, and he is so right
You could make an entire video of these with riffs off Blackwater Park alone (the track, not even the album).
Just saw the title for this one.... Oh, yeeeeaaaahhh! Two of my all-time favourite bands, Archspire and (early-and-mid-era) Opeth ;)
