    That's wild you learned to do vocals and play at the same time for this. Glad to hear about you're able to tour while managing tendinitis injuries.

      Thank you so much :). I think all the twitch streaming where I was reading guitar tabs, playing, and talking to the chat at the same time really prepped me for this hahaha

      @@ClainesWorld I'm sure you know this already but I've always heard the key apparently is to be able to play your guitar parts in your sleep and focus on the vocals. I can barely pat my head and rub my stomach idk how I'd manage to do a show singing and playing lmao

    as a touring death metal guitarist / vocalist - tucking your chin a little and shoving your face into the mic while doing vocals to peek at your fretboard is an absolute clutch move and looks pretty hard too haha

    Hi, i gigged 30 years, most time as 3 piece band, so no margin of error. After each gig, there was always one hurt in my heart that it went by so fast. I keep wishing i was in crowd to see what the fuss was about. Only camcorders, they were rare. It just went by so fast, we were so tight as three. Be Well, have great success, but treat everyone around you better than yourself, and in short time, they will be 50% of your success, just be the best you.

    What you said about preparing for the show reminded me of Nita's story about how she once met Steve Vai and he invited her to take part in a compilation album of female rock guitarists, "She Rocks". She had never created her own music before and she had no songs, but of course she agreed and then in an extreme hurry she composed and recorded an instrumental song "Pandemonium", which marked the beginning of her solo career and led to the creation of her debut album.

    Congrats on your first show! Interesting to see how it’s done now with computers and social media.
    My band played our first show (after being together about 6 months) on a community radio station New Year’s Eve 91/92. We recorded an 8 song demo tape in early ‘92 followed by an 8 song 7” that summer. 2nd 7” in ‘94, 3rd 7” in ‘96, then a full length LP in ‘97. The only merch we ever did was tshirts we screen printed in the basement in 1995. All our recordings were done by us in our bass player basement with the exception of the first 7” which was recorded in my cousin’s make-shift basement studio. We called it a day in March 2004.

    Holy crap... that live sound mix in the intro clip is great and so is that song!!
    Also, my last main gigging band, we did that with our first unofficial 'show' which was 3 "songs" that were more like riff salads & incomplete vocals we had written. The show was also impromptu since it was for a friend's house party (and he later became our 2nd guitarist). Fun times!!

  • @boogaethje
    @boogaethje 11 місяців тому

    Gratz on your show. Best feeling ever. As you have clearly learned; preparation, confidence (and extra 9 volt batteries) is definitely key. The writing, rehearsal is the work. The show is the reward. For me the anxiety always kicked in like 5 minutes before stage time but once we launched into the first the song I was locked in and good to go. I didn't have to think about what I was playing. This was the result of consistent practice and show experience. The stage sound and room sound differs dramatically. Get a good sound person you can trust if you can to communicate with. New sub. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    As a 48 year old guitarist who has been in 3 death metal bands in my life. One of which was signed on Dwell Records who was a subsidiary label for Century Media (B-league)😊. We had a manager assigned to us by the name of John Bookshire. Loud, rude, honest, native New Yorker and perpetually condescending. He was a good manager though.
    He used to say this thing that kinda stuck with me. He would tell unsigned bands hanging around venues during shows "never play a show because your offered a show. Play a show because you sick of playing your material in your basement." In other words, when your so tight its like breathing. I get it though. Sometimes you simply cant say no.

    I've been lucky. Every band I have been in practiced in their own house. My last band actually ended with a tiny profit. We had to see 100 tickets for the local venue. We got $2 per ticket sold but $4 if we sold the 100 tickets. Anytime we were close to the 100, we would just buy the remaining tickets ourselves and get paid $400 per show. The tickets were easy to sell because we made sure we opened for the big bands like Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Deicide... Then there was the merch. T-shirts and CD's.

    For a couple decades I played over 300+ shows a year and I did this one thing religiously before playing.
    I basically pinch my arms between my thumb and fingers from the elbow all the way down to the fingers as firm as you can stand it. Do both arms and pull your fingers outwards gently and it will send a flood of fresh blood to all of those areas making them very limber and ready to shred. I never did a warm up or patterns with my fingers to exhaust them before performing. I just pinched and played without a single injury. Congratulations on the success of your band and the gig!

    Wow, Tshirts for your first show. It would be so cool to have a shirt for a bands first show, It might be a first. It sure would make you look professional. Dont forget to have fun. There is nothing more fun on the planet then Rockin out on a stage in front of people. You are now one of the Lucky Ones. Its very cool to hear your story, thanks. Also you should lock down your members, If theyre not dedicated then you can find a replacement and get back to work quicker. Lots a Luck to ya. Ill come and check you out
